Should i get the 7.7 or stick with my Note - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

I really like my note ....but im i also luv the 7.7...so im asking for a opinion from you guys....is it worth the trade.....

This belongs in general not development...
Anyway, I prefer the size of the 7.7 screen, and the fact that it's not pentile. But the stylus and ICS make the Note very attractive.

I have them both the note is better for phone functions and the 7.7 is better for tablet functions, easy answer buy them both and while your at it you might as well get an asus prime so you also have a 10 inch tablet !

I have them both but only using my 6800 now.

Thanks for all the input ive been looking for the perfect solution i like the tab and want big screen plus make calls.
Do you think its worth a trade . .would it be pretty even .

Only thing making me keep my note is just as a backup. also really wanting ics...

Moved To General
Please post in the correct section

keep your note with you please.
Its not that tab is not good,
but note has good developer support, while this tab has very poor developer support.
Even it has less support from samaung itself very less updates, where as note has good samsung support.
i will advice you to not to trade your device for this.
Its your choice.
Good luck

I would recommend sticking with the Note if you are into custom ROMS or ICS.

thanks for all yalls help ...hopefully i can stumble upon a INT version pretty cheap and get that one .....and patiently wait for the note 2....

now should i get the 7.7 since its been annouced that ics is coming ....btw anyone interested in trading 7.7 for a note ....

I can't believe I'm considering this, but---possibly...

The indefinite microcosm becomes the indefinite macrocosm in a definite manner and by definite means...and vice versa.

I REALLY like this tab. I LOVE drawing on it. Its NOT too big, but I keep tearing the rubber from capacitive styli... and pressure sensitivity..... that was the big toss up for me, the pressure sesitivity... it's running ics now? I have a p6800 and I LOVE it. Can I give up the extra screen realestate for pressure sensitivity? Forum? Can you help me decide if I should make this trade? This is probably where PM'S become good. But now let me REALLY research the Note and I'll get back to you.

Got the 7.7 yesterday. I have been debating it for months. I still have the Note... will be keeping both! Screen is amazing on 7.7...just like the S2. Also, unlike many tabs, the 7 screens are preserved and it is not cut down to 5. There is a tiny bit of lag sometimes when transitioning screens, hopefully this will go with ics update. But, it wont be the end of the world if it doesnt. I like the handiness of the mini app tray and having some ability to personalize this. Thought i would miss the IR function (which has been taken out of the final 7.7 UK model), but i dont. I have no issue with other styli not being pressure sensitive...i am impressed with writing and drawing ability on 7.7. However, unlike many on here, this function is not essential for my lifestyle or my work. I plan to use my 7.7 as a phone and media device when at home for long periods or travelling. This will save my battery on my Note ... I will use my Note for work.

Yep the default launcher lags during transitioning. The default TW launcher is the worse of its kind. Any other launcher you could find on earth is better than it.
They said ICS will be there for 7.7 next month, but even so why torture your tab with TW launcher anymore? I recommend GO Launcher HD, or you could try Lightning.

Yeah well the offer still stands if anyone wants to pm me . . . .tab for a note . . .

So i need a fast answer to this

Alright guys,
i need some expert opinion here,
I've never used a smartphone before, but last week i bought a galaxy s2, i think it was last wednesday, just loved the phone, but the battery was very unstable, so i took it to the customer service center on saturday, they offered me a replacement S2 because my phone was just 3 days old.
Anyway, today I got a call saying that I can collect my replacement tomorrow, or I can choose to upgrade to galaxy note (by paying the few bucks difference).
So what do u guys suggest? time is short, so answers as soon as possible please...
if you loved the s2 then stay with the s2 . or try out demo the note in the store then decide . ( if you happy with s2 size and no need for the note size )
Sg2 is almoust same than galaxy note,if you want very.big screen then you buy note, both are very good phone.note also have a pen but idont never use that pen.sg2 is better in hand but note's big screen is very nice to watch videos and browsing.sorry my bad english
i did like the S2, but the battery life was horrible for me... and i have average sized hands but thick fingers.. so i keep getting things wrong.. i was wondering if the note will help improve that...
also i am from india, the S2 in india is still version 2.3.3 , only was to upgrade is to use a custom rom, i dont want to risk the warranty just yet, and the note comes with 2.3.5 .
these are the positives i see in note, that being said, i loved my s2 for the 3 days i used it, i mainly use video streaming and business work related browsing.
Will the note be able to match up to the S2 in the display and brower aspects? also application compatibility
and thanks to both of u for the quick replies
The Note does the same job as the S2, but especially for video en browsing, and anything else benefiting from a larger screen, the Note is more pleasurable to use.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
There are a couple of s2 to note threads for you to search for and look at. The GPS is another huge difference.
Go to YouTube and watch some reviews and videos of the Note, and go to a store and hold it in your hand(s).
hii
im from india too n recently sold my 5months old GS2 n got note and i must say i did a good thing buying Note.
advantages over S2
1.battery is better.
2.Display is AWESOME text is super crisp n clear.
3.HD screen 1280x800. which will be useful when ice cream sandwich releases as it takes full use of it.
4.android 2.3.5
5.extra customization over S2. (OTA updates now work in india, new live wallpapers ,weather widget @ homescreen)
6.dual core 1.4ghz (s2 1.2ghz).
only problem is size if its ok with u then GET NOTE!!
its upto u buddy to make the choice.
SIZE...is the key for me...
I came from the S1 to the Note...didn't get the S2 as i didn't feel there was any true advantage but the Note has a larger screen and as i only use my mobile for calls for approx 1 hour in a month, the rest of the time being used browsing the web or sending text / whatsapp messages i thought the Note was a better fit.
Me and my wife rearly pick up our laptop as the Note is so well suited for the web too...
Her Galaxy S now feels like a little toy!!! Couldn't go back to a smaller screen now so careful!

I don't have the Note yet, but i couldn't imagine going back to 800x480 after using 1280x800.
Yes, forgot to mention the resolution...especially. When browsing web sites in landscape mode, everything fits perfectly without zooming 99% of the time.

P.S: Enjoy the thanks by my stupid usb mouse.
If you dont mind a very big screen, the choose note.
I guess we're on the same page I wouldn't mind seeing a 6" note. I have been using the Galaxy tab as my cell phone for a year now so I'm like stepping back in size but stepping forward everything else.
Just check out the Note for its size. It can seem a little oversized for some people (although, with my large hands and fingers, I love it). If the size works for you, I'd really recommend the Note.
The S2 is miles behind when it comes to resolution and internet-experience. And it doesn't have an S Pen... People don't realize how much value the S Pen adds yet. I didn't even get to using it fully until yesterday (3-4 days after buying the Note) and I got sucked in just drawing for something like 2 hours...
You get xtra benifit in Note
- 2.3.5 inbuilt with Indian language support (I can read gujarati n hindi),
- OTA firware update
- Kies Air hav known issue on S2, working nice on Note

Galaxy Note AND 7.7??

hey guys,
from your own experiences, do you think it's worth it to own both devices?
i already have a Galaxy Note... should i pick up a 7.7? (i've wanted one since september lol)
let me hear your thoughts!
I have both. I use the note mostly when i need to go to places where i need a device that fits my jeans pocket. other than that i use the 7.7 both as my phone and mobile internet device even though i have to admit, i wish they would have made it a 7'' instead of 7.7''.
For me 7.7 is perfect, it is better than 7 ^^
@Kibosh
"I think" you should buy it otherwise you'll never stop wanting it lol.

I have both devices as well. As it stands, I use my 7.7 to majority of the time, mainly because I feel that the Note is really held back by Gingerbread in terms or truly harnessing its power and taking full advantage of its capabilities.
Perhaps it might help you to have a read through of my 7.7 vs Note comparison
I don't want to sell Note for 7.7, i want Note AND 7.7 because i want to use Note outdoors and 7.7 at home but i think they are similar in size and don't know if it's right to have both!

I have the Note but Im returning it due to the screen defects but if it were in a better circumstance id have both note and tab 7.7, one for mobile and one for home use.
I have the Gnote and the 7.7 is on order...
I am also betting that the 6800 will fit in my front pocket just as well as my old P1000 did.
Intend to.enjoy both devices....
I don't use my phone much, and I don't like it's coarse resolution (Skyrocket). I live in an LTE area (20K down, 8K up, so not full speed, but good enough), so I'm thorn between the ATT Note or the International version. Speed vs XDA support.
Or maybe I should just keep the skyrocketas a dumb phone and use the 7.7 as my main mobile reader/browser? Decisions...

One thing both the Note and Skyrocket (and the Skyrocket is pretty awesome in my opinion, lower resolution notwithstanding) have over the 7.7 is the camera. The 7.7 has a really crappy camera and is really the only major disappointment I've had with the device. Granted, most people don't do much more than casual social media uploading with tablet cameras, but with the smaller 7.7 some people may want to use it as their all-in-one device so it's a shortcoming.
traded my beloved note to a dealer for the 7.7 as I justified it would be more appropriate given my usage pattern which includes significant travel, lots of donut shop time, high data consumption, and and very little phone calls. I figured giving up a phone wouldn't be difficult with 7.7 and bluetooth headset.
After a few days I feel naked without a real pocketable phone even though my 7.7 is always with me. I had to start carrying around my very old g1 as a temporary. If you can afford both, but it's a nice pair to have.
That said, with the 7.7 now I will unlikely buy a new note as there is a lot of overlap in functionality. I'm eying an xperia ray to partner with it for its size and camera when needed.
I PM'ed this to Kibosh3 earlier:
It's definitely worth it if your aim is laptop replacement. For word processing and reading documents (especially complex ones with quality photos), the 7.7 is a huge improvement. The 7.7 can even be slipped into a front or back pocket when walking around so that you can keep it secure in public places. In fact, I've been bringing it in and out of my pocket in public places to read stuff on public transportation, but you have to be much more careful than with a regular phone. The only time I regret the 7.7 is it's much less practical to quickly whip it out of the pocket and put it back every second--to find out what time it is, nervously check messages, etc. If you absolutely MUST have that permanently convenient availablility (as in, you need to be on the phone all the time), you'd be sacrificing that comfort for the larger size, despite the 7.7's pocketworthiness. But unlike a full-size tablet, it is light enough to operate comfortably for an extended period. And it's easier on the neck to read than a little phone because it stands tall when I put it in my Note's spare battery charger/stand.
...Galaxy 7.7, via tapatalk
I do this too (checking the time often). But I never use the smartphone for this. I have a watch.
sorry if i revived this thread again. but i need help too regarding this matter.
i just sold my iPad 64GB, so i have money to spend. i have a galaxy note here though. my question is... what should i get? should i get the new ipad, iphone 4S or the galaxy tab 7.7?
things that my note can do:
- call, text, browse the web, download youtube videos
what it can't do:
- video call through YM (beta version has a lot of bugs, need YM cause most of my relatives uses YM)
what it barely does:
- type documents (too small for me)
- battery life.. lasts only like 7-9hours unlike Apple products
what i need:
- something with good battery life
- call and sms capabilities (7.7 seems good here)
- very good video experience (new ipad or 7.7 here)
- portability (iphone 4S seems good)
torn between these devices appreciate the help friends!
Galaxy note might qualify when it comes to portability. Ipad I guess is a good choice since it has a longer battery life than 7.7 and the P6800 and galaxy note has identical features. Video feature is better too. :-D

exactly why i am torn between these devices hehe
if i get new ipad:
- can only get the 16GB version
- nice screen
- big screen
- no 3G
- hard to lug around
if i get the 7.7:
- can get the 16GB (also have a stagnant 16GB microSD at home)
- nice screen
- call and sms function
- kinda portable
- not-as-good-as-ipad document maker (iWorks is awesome and there is the official MS Office already for apple)
oh man.. think i should save my money and spend it on other things instead (like food, clothing hahaha)?
Google docs or Polaris office not enough for you. With bletooth keyboard and stand you can satisfy most of the "office tool needs". Ics helps here greatly as well...

i don't know, maybe it's just me liking the smooth official MS Office and the iWorks from iPad. downside for apple is its really restricted unlike android. but yeah i'm open to things. i'll try fiddling with Polaris right now hehe. thanks for the reply sir! keep the advices coming people! :good:
EDIT: ok i tinkered with Polaris already. yet to see Google Docs. hmm.. maybe the smoothness of iOS is just getting to me. *shrugs it off* another factor could be that everyone in my family (except me) uses Apple iPads.. i'm the only one who doesn't have facetime and imessage. tried to convince them to use Skype so i could join the fun. will read more about these products (still tempted by the 7.7 though). been reading for 2months already! LOL

Need some opinions

I am looking to buy a Galaxy Tab 2. I had the Nook Tablet and loved the size but wanted a tablet that was an actual tablet. I ended up buying the new ipad but things were tight and ended up having to sell it.
I want another tablet and love the size, speed, and battery life.I was playing with it at Best Buy and noticed that you can only use the entire screen in landscape mode. Are there any custom roms that fix this. Also, is everyone pretty happy with your GT2? I have an iphone and I love it. But I miss having an android device that I can customize and mess with. Just wanna make sure this is the right one. I think for the price, you can't miss!
Worth it!!
I love mine. Right now I am using the new 10.1 right now. I started with the 7in thinking I wouldn't want it to big. I then went to the 8.9 and yet again wanted bigger one. Plus it was nice the tab 2 10.1 came out as the same price as the 8.9. I bought mine at micro center; they had it for $249 which is 50 cheaper than best buy. Anyway yes Samsung pretty much owns the market. I loved all my galaxy tablets. Hope this helps and good luck.
I am loving my Tab 2 7.0. In fact, I have purchased several Android tablets looking for that right one, and I think I have deduced that none are really iPad killers, but the Tab 2 7.0 comes as close to being the ideal Android Tablet there is. I like it so much that I will more than likely sell my Xoom Wifi, and perhaps Transformer Prime and pick up the Tab 2 10.1.
PROS: size and feel, battery life it great (I charge about every other day with moderate us - now if you streamed video constantly, I would say you would charge every day). Speed is very nice. Browsing with no lag - very zippy. GPS works great. I have a 7" car mount and use it for Navigation and it works great. Good sound from the dual speakers (at least for this size of tablet). Screen is sharp. It has a power saving mode available in the settings that may extend your battery life a bit.
CONS: Of course, Touchwiz, but it sounds like you would customize, anyway. I just put Apex Launcher on it for now (I have no plans to root it and flash custom ROM at this time). The automatic brightness setting is almost always too dim for my tastes. This sounds wierd, but it is the hardest tablet to clean that I own - the screen is very "slimy" for lack of a better term. I can take microfiber cloths to any of my other tablets, and will little effort have them mirror shined, but it takes work on the Tab 2 7.0 - everything just smears really bad. Never experienced this before with a tablet. The last con is the backing - though it looks cool, the plastic is hard and slick - prone to scratches and dropping as it can slide out of your hands.
You have another option in the Kindle Fire. Head over to the Kindle Fire Development thread and check out some of the wonderful ROMS available there - I use GedeROM 1.55. If times are tight, you can pick up a Fire for next to nothing, root it and have a nearly pure ICS experience on it. I actually like the Fire's form factor better than the Tab 2 7.0. Cons of course are no Bluetooth, GPS, or Camera - which may be a killer for most. I would consider it the ultimate secondary cheap tablet to play with.
Good luck!
Rob
You may want to look at the Asus Prime line or the Acer Iconia Line. The development section on the Tab 2 is pitiful. There are only 2 ROMs available. Acer is about to release their A700 which will make the Tab 2 look like a toy. And the Asus line is really starting to get interesting. I bought the Tab 2 for my son, bought the 7" from Costco and when I got home it was the 10.1 inch. So I'll keep it but until the development increases for this tablet you may want to look elsewhere.
I suggest that the OP heads over to the Prime XDA forums before investing into any Asus tablet. Six months with mine has been nothing but disappointments. I simply cannot and will not recommend Asus to anyone. Any correspondence with them is further reason to avoid. They are going to have to have English based support to penetrate the US market further. If not phone, then at least someone to translate their support site and email correspondence for them. I recently had an owner survey from them and it was embarrassing.
Again, it is up to the OP to research, however and determine their own view.

I use setcpu to over clock all of my devices. The app is cheap but in actuality is very polished and does its job well.
I also removed both for my own reasons (I like a very simplistic look). I would recommend finding the ROM you like, and backing it up and then trying a bunch of different mods.

Who misses his Galaxy Note?

As much as i love the S3 i think i` am gona switch back to the Note 2 when it comes out, i miss the big screen and the S-pen features to much.
Browsing, texting, mailing, watching foto`s and video`s are such a joy on that device.
Anyone else coming from the GN and what do you guys think.

Coming from a Note, no, I don't miss it. Sure, 0.5" is appreciated in some circumstances, but not using the s-pen features, I really think the S3 is far better. And more important, more portable.

Haha exactly the same as me! I look across the room and see it, and decide to play with it. Just love the screen so much. Two things do bug me about it and keep me with my SG3 - 1) Black clipping in videos 2) The lag in the camera app/lack of modifcation for bitrate, compresssion e.t.c.
Actually I am enjoying the fact that I am currently using a "normal" sized phone. I was a bit concerned when I bought the S3 as I always thought it would be hard to adapt to the smaller screen... well it wasn't.
The note isawesome but I think SPen was over-rated, at least personally I've never used it for anything useful. And since ICS update, battery life started to annoy me. What was more annoying is not having the flagship phone of the manufacturer, it is a subjective opinion but we were left out by Samsung , they didn't tackle any problems with that phone, ICS took a long time with premium BS marketing which I still don't what's premium about it.
Anyway, enough ranting, I am happy with the S3 and will re-asses how I feel when the Note 2 comes out.
I will be getting the Note2 when it drops..........
dont miss the bigger screen though, the S3 is just fine.....but either way im ok.
I miss my note.particularl s pen , but now have to be content with s3.

I miss having a perfectly working version of Paranoid. On the S3, Skype, Netflix, and USB DACs don't work with any CM9 variant I've tried. I miss the extra 80 pixels of width per line, but less than I thought I would. My daughter misses the S pen.
I'm surely glad to have the better calibrated screen of the S3 though. The slightly higher PPI makes the pentile jaggies even less bothersome. The camera is a big improvement too. And then there's that CPU making everything faster.
I'm also in the group of Note missing people. Even though spec-wise everything is much better the bigger screen pleasure could not be replaced by anything. Note 2 is my next phone!

I'm sticking with the S3 and if I can afford it, keep the note as a baby tablet

In august guys.
very soon
I knew when I sold my Note to get the Galaxy S3 that I would be eventually Switching back to the Galaxy Note 2.The reason has nothing to do with the S-Pen, even though it was great and I did use it. simply put I think a the screen on the note is amazing and the perfect size. Also Rumours coming in that the Note 2 is going to have a bigger display without increasing the size of the device.
I think us Galaxy Note lovers are those that aren't keen on having a tablet as they are too big to have with you everywhere, but still want the benefit of a big screen. I'm going to pick up a Nexus 7 in the mean time.

Buying a Note 10.1 ?

Hey guys,
I'm thinking of buying a Note 10.1 with the Note 2 in my pocket I find it useful and fun to use, and I perfect selecting text etc with the S-Pen.
However I've got some reservations. I've looked at one 3 times (I know WTF am I doing?) and I've been resitant on buying one as all of them are running 4.0.4 and I'll be honest I found it a bit clonky, and not as rapid as the Note 2.
Now with mention of a possible GT-N8200 which is a possible successor to the N8000 is it wise to buy one? with rumors of the Nexus 10 screen, an updated spec and possible S-Pen improvements I'd hate to buy one and the N8200 pop up 2 months later. One of my reasons for such hesitations is there £379 here in the UK and haven't really dropped in price since there introduction is this because there isn't a replacement or are they just expensive,
When there is the likes of the Tab2 for £265 and the Nexus10 £319 While neither offer the S-Pen I found all in store demonstration models on 4.0.4 are quite laggy and not responsive enough with the S-Pen detection being too slow to realistically use it for drawing I'm finding it difficult to spend more when the S-Pen doesn't seem to work in a way where i'll actually use it.
Can anyone give me a unbiased opinion on how well it works, I know this is the forum for it, but I'm hoping you guys and gals will be able to tell me how it is, as in store demonstrations don't make me want to part with the cash and buying one blind without trying the 4.1.2 up date is financial suicide imho.
TIA
Luke.

so I have only had one tablet, this one and I bought it a couple days after its release. the 4.1.2 update definitely improved just about everything for me. ~10 hours per charge, another after the update, and expanded multi window. I understand your reservations about buying now and having a newer model. The display isn't good enough for some, and adequate for others look for the nexus 10 vs. note 10.1 thread, it is debated ad nauseam. perhaps is because my eyes are beginning to fail me somewhat but the screen works fine for me. keep in mind higher resolution requires more battery and cpu usage. fwiw, this note was announced Feb 2012. and took 6 more months to be released. my honest opinion, you won't see the next note 10.1 till July- August time frame. that's my gut feeling.
I find the s pen to be plenty responsive, there is a thread with art work done in the note 10.1 and I'm amazed at what people create.
Like I said I have only used this tablet and have never regretted my choice. my advice would be to peruse some of the threads reporting problems, but honestly there don't seem to be as many of those threads as opposed to some devices.
don't trust the store displays, watch some you tube videos, I always have power saving on and it never slows down.
good luck!
Please don't trust a unit in the store! When I went to worst buy to play with 1 the screen was covered in jelly lol. I love mine & could care less about retina displays. Whenn they come out with the note 10.1 2 I will buy it but until then I'm happy with my purchase. There will always something else newer coming out when you buy a tablet. Hell I bought the galaxy note 2 & now they already talking about the galaxy note 3

Thank you for taking the time to give me an idea what the Note is like.
I will go get one based on this new information, I really wish stores would update the devices they sell as Jellybean seems to have transformed the Note by what I can see, meanwhile the general public see them and obviously prefer the iPad, is it any wonder when some of the Android devices are running so badly.
Even on ICS I was impressed at what this baby could do compared to my old transformer prime. Jellybean has turned this baby into a multitasking beast! Thank god I didn't get the Microsoft surface. Lastly the speakers on the front of the tablet is something I've been hoping a company would do forever. There's nothing worse than having to cup your hands at the back of your tablet to get the sound to fire in your direction

+1 for the speakers, the IR blaster is kinda cool too
EDIT: as far as becoming obsolete soon, Verizon just began selling these on this side of the pond, Sprint as well I believe. and the 8 inch version hasn't even been released yet. read into that how you desire. enjoy!
Get it recommemded from my internal heart !!!
I have used ipad, windows tablets, tab2 10 and note 10 is the best of them !!!
Speed and functionality as good specification except retina screen !!!
All your multimedia needs and writing needs not like other tablets

I love my 10.1. I did however buy a different stylus (the Wacom Bamboo feel) because writing with the original stylus can be a little awkward due to its size and shape (for me, anyway). But for school, it's been a great alternative to carrying around multiple notebooks, and I can use my Note II hotspot to easily connect to the internet when not near a router.
I think the note 10 is the most underrated tab around, I had the original n7000 and this is considerably quicker, I even like the touch wiz implementation (mostly) on it, something I never thought I'd say...
It also made me realise I didnt really need a phone with an spen, as I used this one 100x more than the note one.
Use it for drawing all the time would like a higher res screen though.
They have been reduced btw, argos were selling them cheaper, and Samsung were doing a rebate on top of that for uk purchases.
Check old hotukdeals.com topics for those.
Not sure when I'm down in London next, other wise I'd say you're welcome to try mine out,
OT what do you ride btw? I teach mtb

It looks as if that Wacom stylus has a button, if so, does it behave the same as the stock s-pen?
I highly pecommend this tablet.
It is very fast, Well built and can be used in an office as well as in the field.
