Which is the best ROM for defy overall at the moment?

Because CM9 is still somewhat buggy and not yet fully optimized, in my opinion CM7.2 Stable is the best overall ROM with regards to performance, compatibility and stability.

hey, sometimes it's hard to choose even between 2 girls...
each rom has it's qualities, so you should mention that what are you looking for.. if it's speed and performance then CM7.1 or CM7.2 are best. If you want battery life then go for MS2Ginger... If it's nice UI, then go for wiui or miui.... hope you find what you're looking for.

i would suggest you to try each girl and then decide on looks and performance

MS2Ginger
Hi!
I've just tried MS2Ginger 3.0 ROM, and I really like it, but I cannot configure the email client: when I want to set up an email account with different domain than .com, it just says "There was an error creating your account. Please try again."
On stock Froyo it worked.
(I tried to make a gmail.com e-mail account - it accepted - than I changed the settings to .fi, etc... but it gave authentication errors... settings are correct for sure)
Do you have any idea what can be the solution?
BR,
Aron

the next one you're about to flash ^^
...then you realise it aint
I've tried most CM9/ICS, MIUI (couple variants), CM7.2...
for themes & ease of set up (gps etc) go for MIUI,
for bench marks go for - CM9 (buggy),
for a blend of the two plus stability - go for CM7.2 ^^ it has themes (no match for MIUI though) - it's really smooth (can't out benchmark CM9/ICS) - I'm on CM7.2 @ mo & will be for a while...
PS - Wajk Hybrid rom (GB/ICS blend) is worth a look too...

epsylon3 CM9
Wow! Pair it with Apex Launcher and the Defy becomes what it should have been. I know it's nightlies (17/06) but for me, with stock Froyo kernel, everything is working, and it's so slick.

CM7 based rom
Cm9 based roms are not perfect till now.....developer not interested in developing Cm9 based roms......
now they moved towards CM10.....
but dont use CM0 coz it still in development phase.....at starting you will find it better....but as the day's passed you will find it laggy....
Go for CM7 based roms.....
Go for WHITERABBIT 1.8...new released just awesome.....super stable......I will suggest you this rom.....
Or go CM7 manic's rom.......both are same.....
but you will find more tricks in WHITERABBIT 1.8......:good:

Because of the controversy and arguments they inevitably generate, "best ROM" threads are prohibited on XDA. To determine which is best for yourself, read user feedback and better yet, try a few ROMs for yourself. Thread closed.

Sup dude, if you want suggestions you should give us an idea of what you're looking for first.
I'm currently using CM7 HyperDroid which suits me cos it's minimalistic, dark and fast. So if you like those things to, I definitely recommend it. Another good thing about this ROM is that you only need a 150mb CWM partition, which is good for us EU owners.
I've only tried one other ROM and that was UltimateDroid. It's another fast ROM (I'm pretty sure it's based off CM7) which has a lot of theme options. It's got a more stock feeling to it, but if you don't like the default green it's got red, blue etc.
I'd also suggest having a look at the MIUI ROMs too, I haven't tried one yet but they have some interesting features.
Hope this helps man.

Thx,
i need a sens rom, and it must be stable. and fast is always good
I've had no luck with Sense ROMs so far. Not fast enough for the added eye candy. Been a long time CM user and finally tried MIUI yesterday morning. OMG! Within two hours I became a diehard MIUI fanboy. Been hammering it ever since and it's blowing me away. More functionality than CM, same level of zippy performance, but much better eye candy. It have yet to find one thing I don't like and it keeps amazing me as I stumble upon new feature after new feature. I don't think I can go back to any other ROM now.

MIUI needs a 120mb CWM so it's low profile like CM. Both good for EU owners. Unlike that damn 400mb for Sense.

One of it's few lacking features... true. Always forget about that since I listen to mp3, podcasts, and internet radio. FM radio pretty much unnecessary here in the states with the other alternatives.
I'm also on miui but I installed launcher pro because I didn't like the iphone like launcher. you should try it. the roms are very smooth and fast. i'm using the ndt one and won't go back unless the gingersense roms are working without bugs.
sure but i think it won't work on gingerbread when none of the roms have included it.

+1 to both posts. Don't use the honeycomb version. The one in my sig is solid. No force closes yet and smooth. I run everything at once and no issues.
As mentioned above, hypderdroid cm7 is one i recommend as well, it is very fast. You will need cwm installed thought but its worth it. Here give it a try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769026

[Q] Most Optimized Gingerbread ROM for HD2?

Let me preface this by saying I am not trying to start a "What is the best ROM" thread. My question is simple. Of the many Android ROMs available for the HD2, which is the most optimized and stable Gingerbread ROM? Furthermore, is there some sort of CM7 port for the HD2?
+1
Anyone help !?
After testing several Roms on my retired Leo, my best experience was with HyperdroidGBX. Very very fast, good battery life and overall an excellent ROM.

Personally, I've used NDT MIUI for a quite some time, it's not for everyone I guess, but you could always use a different launcher. It's never given me problems, and it runs smooth as silk
Before MIUI I was a hyperdroid fanboy though, both are excellent roms

I'm sorry but rephrasing the "What is the best ROM" question doesn't make it any different...U didn't even take d time out to check out the Android dev threads, cuz if u did then u surely would have seen not 1 but 2 threads featuring cm7 ports for the HD2....U won't get any real help here cuz we all use our phones differently, wats cool for me might not be cool for u so go out there and flash...flash..flash...Flashing is much safer & far easier than before with the help of CWM...Look @ screenshots & read devs/user posts on wat works and doesn't...Find d ROM dat suits U & U alone....XDA is a development site, so show some effort & u'll be rewarded.

I'm sorry but I really didn't want people's personal preferences on ROM's. When I meant the most optimized Gingerbread ROM, I meant the most optimized ROM. Not talking about features, looks or anything else. Just the smoothest one that runs Gingerbread. I also apologize that I didn't look around the forums enough to find the CM7 port thread. I'm still learning my way around these forums and I have very little knowledge regarding these ROMs and such but I will do my best to look for relevant threads.

I base my own tests on how good gun bros runs on the roms i have tested and till now only NexusHd2- from tytung runs this game without any problems. All other roms failed. It may be that i am doing something wrong but is very unlikely.
I've tried CM7 nightlies and tytung's rom, both have issues last I checked (last week). Tytung build seemed great, but just had the phone app lockup/issue mid-call (perhaps it's fixed by now).
I settled on Tyween's TyphooN CM7 "nightly" build, and have had no issues at all since the install.

Stable? Well my personal recommendation is Aura with fauxs enhanced stock kernel.

+1 for Aura.
I did the CM7 thing for a bit. I had issues with bluetooth. Bluetooth streaming is too important to me. I find Aura fast, and extremely stable.
CM7 or Aura for me
I 've been on CM7 for a while and it is fast, stable, and with really nice mods built in to make the phone so easy to use. The camera/camcorder was a bit of a problem as I take a lot of pictures/videos of my kids and was not able to find a comparable alternative to the stock camera/camcorder app. I understand this is a Blur issue and in the works....So I flashed Aura the other night and it's very good so far. I haven't had much luck with the consistent use of any of the overclock kernels though. I don't know what it is but I cannot get setcpu set in any combination to govern a darn thing in any Rom/Kernel combination through repeated wipes/flashes/re-installs. Any over clock kernel over 1000 Mhz will just start cooking. Seems the best setup is to use the stock ROM kernel. The CM7 is an overclock kernel that runs a little warmer but nothing to worry about.
In regards to Aura I have one question though. Do I have to install the full Blur version to get the universal inbox to make use of multiple hotmail/live email accounts? Currently I have to set each email account as default in order to check them individually.

[POLL]Fastest and most stable ICS rom

Hi all!
I made this thread so it will be clear which ICS rom is the fastest at the moment.
Roms included in poll:
Kwiboo's ICS v3
Cyanogenmod 9 Alpha 12
NexusBeam HD (latest version)
(ICS) Android 4.0 by eugene373
Cyanogenmod 9 Kangs (latest)
NexusMV 2.xx.xx
If you vote for a rom, please use the latest version of it. .. Dont forget to vote peepzz!
I haven't tried eugene's rom, but the Nexus Beam has been the fastest and most stable of the rest. Still, I hear good things about eugene's rom, so maybe I'll try it. But nothing beats GB... Yet..

Honestly, though, how many people are fit to vote? How can you judge which is the most reliable if you haven't tried all of them?
More of a poll of which ROM everyone is on, as opposed to which is the most reliable.

So as far as the NS4G, I think that CM9 KANGS has smoothest UI experienced the least lag if any but AOSP's rom definitely has faster 3g
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
I've tried all of them except Eugene's. The kangs were the fastest until I tried out Drew Garens beta 2. IMO that is the fastest right now although all of the roms lag in comparison to gingerbread. I am starting to get jealous of the speed of my girlfriends stock Nexus S....

Kiwiboo v3 is the best for me. Honestly no issues (i.e. Wifi, keyboard, market, calendar apps all work out of the box.)
Whenever I read a kang thread there is someone having issues, NexusBeam HD some aren't able to download apps from the Market etc.
Kiwiboo takes it for having a working ICS port with no hassle.

that was just a statement of observation, since i opened this thread the first time.
but, if you want to go there, how do you judge fastest when every user has their own experience. the same with reliability. we all look for these roms to fullfill our individual needs, and our individual needs all differ. so, i can probably say, these roms are all fast and reliable, or they wouldnt be on this list

I agree CM9 Kangs are definitely the ones to favor and will outright win this poll because:
1. It has CM on it.
People will blindly believe these are the best ones without trying others.
ZOMG CyanogenMod!!! *crackflashes*
2. It's the most frequently updated.
People always believe the latest ROMs will be better than previous ones. (See NexusBeam HD and now Android 4.0 from Eugene.)
New ROM ... need to fill crackflashing addiction ...
I cant decide between nexusbeam hd and latest kang.. i runned both.. but kang is better cuz it has all the apps. Im waiting on nexusbeam 2.2 update.. then i can compare with latest kang

This is true, I feel. I was trying different ROMs at first, but I've noticed I've stuck with CM9 kangs, and I'm REALLY sticking to em now since I flashed today's kang + morfic's SEUV 13b ICS kernel. The speed boost I got today was amazing. With the underclock, it's faster than the early roms were when overclocked.
This is, in reality, going to be a poll about how many people use each rom.

Im looking for ONE version of a ROM to flash, and not have to flash updates after

Friend has been using the i9000, and I have the latest RC of cm7 on it.
She says that once in a while the phone will either reboot, or the screen goes dim and becomes unresponsive and she has to pull the battery.
I will be letting her have the phone as a gift but I want to flash a rom on there that is just rock solid (dont care about features). Just SOLID/stable as she doesnt know to flash any updates and I wont be flashing any more updates to it.
I was thinking about just putting on the latest nightly of cm7 but I dont see any changelogs for it to see what was fixed between the RC and nightly.
I was also thinking about Gamerzrom.
any more suggestions?
I'm running TiramiSlim 2.0 ICS, based on Slim ICS,with Devil Kernel, for a couple of weeks now,
smooth, stable, good battery and no issues
use cyanogenmod 9 RC2. Bug free basically. As for the freezing, are you using stock kernel? Cause it may be a hardware error. My friends phone had it after ics upgrade and all i had to do to fix it was install a custom kernel and bump up the voltages for the 100 and 200mhz frequencies by 25 - 50mV.
Flash her a stock rom, no rooting or fiddling.

No it won't there is no ICS for our phone, just go for AOKP M6 don't look any where else
ok so I've been suggested so far:
tiramislim with devil kernel
cm 9 RC2
aokp m6 (probably the one i've heard least about)
and a stock rom (I thought custom roms are supposed to remove bugs?)
to answer your question, yes it is on the default CM7 kernel
Yep.Custom roms always faster than stock ones. But if we are talking about bugs,hmm.. i dunno..Stock must be better at that.
If your friend is not using her phone too much,i mean just making calls and sms also music etc, flash stock rom and give ut as it is.No need to root.. Pure stock.
I suggest you to flash 2.3.4 JVQ.Then change CSC by typing
*#272*imeinumber# to XEU
Get latest open europe stock firnware from kies. With that she can get latest updates easily.

Its doesnt matter whether its GB or ICS, thats is why I am here, asking for THE MOST solid release of a rom in general
Had Dmore before cm7. found cm7 has less bugs
I'm gonna give a second vote for CM9 RC2. Before jumping to Jellybean, I used the CM9 nightly builds with the semaphore kernel. For me it was always rock solid, and still blazing fast. No bugs. Cheers!
I didnt think cm9 was this popular and considered so stable yet
ICS Elite 1.4.1, it's very fast, stable and bug free. It is also the final version of the rom so there will be no more updates anyway.

without intending to offend all girls on xda (who probably DO care about tech stuff - which is why they are here), sadly most if the girls I know are more concerned about the colour of the phone than which rom it has.
So, if said girl is fitting my terrible stereotype, then you'd be better off asking her which is her favourite colour and picking a suitably themed rom of the right colour! (as long as it is stable enough).
For all girls who DO care about tech: I apologise for perpetuating such offensive sexist rubbish! I SALUTE you!

Slim ICS for me after gamerz rom (last release often hangs for me each time I load too much things in App) and Darky (ok but got quickly crowded by apps and started to lag).
The slim roms allows you to have good battery and small memory footprint, then you add apps to it. Since a week, it's rock solid, I got half day extra in battery life too with my usage (mix of movie/media/3G surfing during 30 minutes commute each way + 20/30 min daily calls)
