[Q] A500 Won't Stay Connected to WiFi - Acer Iconia A500

I have an A500, stock, not rooted, no ROM and it will not stay connected to Wifi. I have a G-Nexus that is fine, so I don't think it is my network. Has anyone else experienced this, any suggestions?

Set your Wifi sleep policy to "never sleep"4
In ICS, select your settings for Wifi. Select Keep wifi on during sleep".
Might want to check your manual for further info.
Also several apps on the market that do this for you.

!!ALL QUESTIONS GO IN THE Q&A FORUM!! OR THEY MAY BE DELETED!!

There is a dedicated forum for asking questions and as usual people are starting to post their questions in the Wrong Forum..
ANY questions posted in the Development OR General Forums are subject to deletion and possible infraction against your account. Forum and Senior Mods have better things to do with their time on here than moving threads into the correct forums.
I want to squash this problem now BEFORE it gets worse as its a big problem on xda forums but is VERY EASY to fix just by posting your questions in Q&A. Please do so..
Thank you.
Mark.

***QUESTIONS BELONG IN Q&A!***

People, we are moving far too many questions into Q&A!
If your question has a [Q] in front of it, it DOESN"T BELONG IN GENERAL!!
Even if there isn't a [Q] there, if it's a question, it DOESN'T BELONG IN GENERAL!!
Please, post in the appropriate forum
Why not redirect threads marked with [Q] automatically to Q&A? People won't stop posting questions in the General section

We've asked for that feature, I don't know if it's possible, but it sure would help.

I see that the people posting in the General section at least mark the thread as question. So redirecting it automatically could reduce something like 60%+ of the questions here.
Do they know what Q&A is?

It's not that they don't know what Q and A is, its just that they think that the question will be solved faster if its in a section where a lot of users visit (more interesting).
But their logic is flawed, since a big flame feast will start the moment they do that lool
I haven't opened a new thread to ask a question in a while, but as far as i know, if you check the box "this is a question" you get an additional warning that posting it in any other section than q&a is a rule violation and one has to confirm to actually post it.
that means that those people clearly violate forum rules after being warned about it. in some devices' sections, threads like that are deleted without further notice, because the moderators don't see themselves as maids for lazy or impudent users.
also, it should be noted, that posting problems, bugs or hardware issues also counts as posting a question.
that means:
- hardware issues should be posted in existing threads of the same issue and for every broken button, the bezel, the display and the battery there already is at least one thread in Q&A.
- hardware issues with accessories should be posted in the accessories section (also in existing threads, where applicable).
- problems with certain apps can be discussed in the themes and apps section, if they are published there, or in Q&A, if not.
- problems that apply to specific roms only should be discussed in the rom's development thread (except for CM), if that helps getting rid of bugs.
If you are a new user that does not yet have the permission to post in development, search if the bug or problem you want to report is already posted, if not, you can either get to the post minimum (without spamming!) to post there yourself or ask in Q&A.
It is so easy and self-explanatory, I don't see, why people keep breaking those rules.
Well the last thing I want to do is warn and/or infract people for posting questions here, but I have to say, this is ridiculous. Dozens and dozens of reports a day (if it weren't for Chef Tony this would be even worse) of questions posted here in General.
Post in the proper forum!!! We have much bigger fish to fry than to constantly have to fix your mistakes! Sorry, but at this point I am thoroughly frustrated. Official warnings and infractions from now on, especially if you've put that [Q] there and ignored the warning.
It's simple why they doesn't follow the rules... they just doesn't read the rules You can just tap I accept and done. Who likes to spend a lot of time reading rules? 90% [i think it's really 90%] here doesn't read it. But most of them just know what they can and cannot do.

I do not envy the jobs of you guys as moderators. I am often thoroughly annoyed by various rule violations to the point where I would admonish the violators, but seeing as how I have no actual power, I tend to just as often get flamed for daring to question their status as a special snowflake.

I can assure you that Moderators appreciate help. Some think they are being a pain when they report but they're really not - we can't be everywhere at once. Instead of engaging on the thread tell us and we'll handle it for you

Nexus HSPA+ root without data loss?

Hi,
Is it possible to root my Nexus HSPA+ without wiping or losing my data?
I've got standard Android 4.2.1 version.
Thank you!

In order to root.. You must unlock the bootloader. (this process also wipe all data including dats in the sd card). I think there's no way you can root without losing data. You can always backup. Chill

Thanks.
By all data you mean including os itself?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
User data and sdcard will be wiped.
Beamed from my Grouper.
Ok, so including OS I guess...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
No you will keep the os

I don't think you need to keep redirecting everyone to that forum. This is the third time I've seen you post the same comment in various threads.
While some posts that are strictly related to the 3G model might be better served being posted there, I disagree that this thread has any merit. First, it has nothing to do with the 3G/HSPA+ model, outside of the OP happening to own that one. The answer is the same either way, and is about the Nexus7 in general. His question, which has been asked/answered numerous times, is very generic and has nothing to do with the 3G model or functionality. Second, that forum is for "Nexus 7 3G Android Development", not General or Q/A posts. IMHO, it shouldn't be littered with stupid questions that have nothing to do with the 3G model. If the OP had posted his question about the Wi-Fi version in the standard "Nexus 7 Android Development" forum, people would have told him to post it in the General or Q/A forum instead, as it doesn't belong there either. So I think, outside of the fact that the OP should have searched before posting, the Q/A forum was the proper choice.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we have a 3G dedicated forum, and I appreciate the fact that you seem to have taken the lead on maintaining it. I would just prefer it to be filled with useful threads.

I'm not offended...
My title is Recognized Contributor, not leader.
I'm not leader for something, I just want to help the members of the N7 3G+
It's for it that it's better for the moment to concentrate all discussions in this thread.
And it's not only for the development subject, it's for all discussions, solutions and problems
I know that it's the only thread for the time being. But I try to persuade the Admins to create an another one sub-forum which is especially for Questions and Answers (Q&A).
That's why, I redirecting all subjects for this thread. It's not for the pleasure.
Don't forget that when you are a Junior member or new user, you want to see all in one thread, and not in a lot of threads
On this subject, I wanted to thank you for all help that you bring by all of your answers.

Gotcha. Maybe it would be better if the admins changed the name of the existing sub-forum to "Nexus 7 3G General and Development" to help move more people to there then. Because right now, it's only a handful of development related topics. And I know that many people, myself included, would be reluctant to post general or Q/A type posts in that sub-forum instead of one of the generic "Nexus7" ones.

What scares me about Stock is... What scares you?

I remember I ran stock on my Note 2 for a few days and I hated the GPS or some symbol ALWAYS in the notification bar and ridiculous WiFi reminders. Other than those 2 things I think I can live with stick for awhile. Anyway to get rid of my 2 complaints without root? Thanks!
Yes, there are a few things that will be hard to adjust to ... For sure the two you mentioned! I remembered about the WiFi nag, but completely forgot about that GPS "eye"!
I agree it'll be rough running stock until the wonderful devs figure this new device out! I'm hopeful for at least root early off because I can't see running without LMT or AdAway for very long LOL

I'm hoping one can still remove the persistent wifi notification by the long press which works on the Note 2. And it would sure be a great surprise if Verizon removed that very annoying GPS/location eye. Regardless, I'll be staying stock.

Device Q&A typically refers to informative questions that a person considers important and needs an answer for it. This original post, while indeed a question by grammatical definition, is more idle banter, a general discussion of sorts.

Please reread the OP. It contains this request for technical information "Anyway to get rid of my 2 complaints without root?"
And forum rule 15 states:
General Forums - For news and announcements relating to your device.
Q&A Help & Troubleshooting forums - For all question threads / posts. If there is no Q&A Help & Troubleshooting forum use the device General Forum
If you have any issue with a moderator action, please take it to PMs.
Highlighted that as apparently some people missed this^^^^^^^^^^ My PM "door" is always open.

Why are there [Q] threads everywhere?

Sorry for being off topic here. This is not a thread about our devices. However, I've noticed an issue where people are asking questions on the General, Development and Original Development section. Why aren't they on the Q&A section where it should be? This isn't the only thing though. I've seen people answering the questions (which is fine) without reminding them that they are on the wrong section. This promotes others to post questions thread on the wrong sections. I might have made a big deal out of something small. If you have a different opinion on this matter, be sure to share it.
tl;dr: Stop posting Questions[Q] threads on the wrong section
lol, this is a Q thread and it's in general

The title is a question but the post is mostly a discussion. What my thoughts are about this problem and I want to know what other thinks. Have you even read the post?
