The battery indicator does not refresh while the screen is turned on. So if you are watching a video or playing a game for 30-40 mins without turning the screen off, the battery will show only a few points drop in 1-5%. But if you turn off the screen and back on it will then suddenly show the more accurate 20-40% drop.
A few times my phone has completely shut off without warning while in use because the battery completely drained while playing a game. It gave no critical battery warning because it fails to refresh unless you turn the screen off.
I've been annoyed by this issue on my LG Quantum for about 8 months now but never got around to posting about it.
This happens for sure on the Telstra internet sharing firmware, and the Bell mango firmware. Not sure about the other firmware versions.
I see LG optimus users also affected by this bug:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307995

Hope LG is aware and plans to fix in an upcoming firmware update.

Ok so I received my Vibrant on Monday and so far I am in love with it. Their are three things that bug me, however.
1. Battery Life is TERRIBLE. I know, I know-This has been discussed before but I did everything the other threads said and still no difference. On my phone, I will leave it on standby and it will drop 8 percent in like an hour and a half. Somethings wrong. Also, If I play the Sims for two hours (like I did today) my battery goes from 98% down to 45%. Is this normal?
Just to point out what I have going on with my phone:
- Brightness is turned down COMPLETELY. Automatic brightness is turned OFF.
- 3G is always on. Could this be the culprit?
- I have a completely black background.
- Last I checked, it said my display was taking up 60-70% of my battery usage.
- As stated above, Sims DRAINS my battery. Either somethings up with my phone or Samsung should have made sure the Sims doesnt kill the device.
2. The second I take my phone off the charger, the battery goes from 100% to 98%. Can I fix this? Its kind of annoying...
3. Problem with the Sims. Im not sure if any of you have this issue, but whenever I tell my Sim to watch TV, the app shuts down and takes me back to my home screen. Any idea why its happening?
Recently I have noticed on several occasions that my phone have gotten hot and started eating away the battery. One time I had around 30% battery and the phone was laying in my pocket. I felt the heat through the pockets and took it up to see what's up. It then had 0% battery and turned itself off.
When looking at battery use in settings, it's hard to pick out one specific application that might do this. If anything it would have to be "Android system", right now it's tied with the screen on 40%, but I charged the phone an hour ago and I haven't used the screen much.
Edit: I should add that the same thing just happened, from 99% to 89% then it stopped. That's why the information above about battery usage is relevant.
Do you think it might be hardware-related, like a partial short circuit or something, or is it most likely a software thing?
Bump. 10 signs.
Had mine for a few days, have not experienced anything like what you describe
I have though felt the screen get hot when turned on full brightness and reading a e-book on it (white - black text)
Well this is while it's laying in my pocket, with the screen off, so it's not the screen. (it's the battery that gets hot)
Take it back.
[Funny story that probably isn't relevant. I had a dodgy micro sd card that made my phone drain battery super fast and as a result my phone got incredibly hot. Took it out and it's back to normal.]
Sounds software related to me, your android system should definitely not be 40% of your battery. It sounds like some rogue app/process is utilizing your cpu and thus your battery very heavily. If you select the "Android system" in the battery usage list, does it not give you a further breakdown of what is included in that that is using your battery? Also, what does it say for the cpu time for the android system?
May be firmware bug
I've had this happen to me a few times when I was running the original firmware. In some early firmware there was a bug related to switching between wifi and 3G, which would get it stuck so that you couldn't toggle wifi on or off. The times this happened to me, it was also stuck in the wifi bug (although I had the wifi bug and it didn't drain the battery).
I now run the newer firmware (JG4) and both problems have stopped.
I've had this problem with my asian i9000 since the beginning. The app called Top showed me that it is ksoftirq/d that is running and System Panel showed me that the cpu was running at 100% at 1ghz.
At first the only solution seemed to be restarting the phone. However some information shared on this forum led me to try restarting wifi which also works. For that thread search for "ksoftirq/d."

I have had the "stuck wifi" bug, but I'm not sure if it was happening the last time this happened. I'll check it out the next time.
There's no official firmware update on Kies for Norway yet, so I think I'll wait for one.
Had exactly the same problem and tracked the culprit - it was Fancy widget in my case. Removed it, installed Beautiful widget and all is well since
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
That might actually be it. If I'm not mistaken Fancy Widget had 30% battery consumption when I checked. I deleted it just to see if it would make a difference. So far so good.
Some details:
Fancy Widget will hit the 100% cpu on auto-refresh if there's no data connection available (either wifi or cellular). It seems there are 2 bugs with Fancy Widget; it ignores "auto-refresh off" option and it tries to connect to server even when offline.
A dirty work around would be to set refresh time to let's say 12 hours and make sure to manually refresh at least once every
That makes me even more convinced that Fancy Widget is the culprit. I usually have cellular network disabled (APNDroid On/Off Widget) to save battery and my wifi connection keeps loosing connection, probably due to some software bug in XXJF3 stock firmware.
My phone under a full charge will go off. The problem is, there's no pattern, it will turn off because of different apps, sometimes in a middle of drafting a text message, or while using twitter. So I ruled out the possibility of being apps that causes issue.
When phone off, and when I attempt to turn it back on the phone will not get passed the boot animation, sometimes it will, and will automatically shutdown right after. There are times it will stay on pass the lockscreen and go no further unless plugged.
There are too many inconsistencies in battery life, if phone goes off at a given percentage, it will not display even close to the same battery level after reboot.
At first I thought it might be the ICS ROMs (CM9 by elk... and Ice Cold Insomnia by Cnote...) then I reverted to CM7.2 RC1, but I get the same problem across the board.
I downloaded a battery drainer app from the market. Will drain battery til I get 0%, then will spend an hr or more charging phone til its full, while it remains on. I timed the amount of time it takes to turn off under ICS or GB, no consistency at all. Anyone has suggestions as to what might be happening to my phone?
Was having trouble with both issues, pulled battery with phone on, waited a minute, put battery back in, both problems fixed!
isnt this bad for the phone? Im having horrible battery life so I'll try anything but just wanna make sure

You wouldn't want do it if on a regular basis but you can try turning phone off, pulling battery out, putting it back in after a minute and if that doesn't work, try my method.
I would wait until the battery is super low and then reset network settings under the reset menu. Power down, pull battery and sim wait 30 sec to a minute and replace everything. Then plug in the phone first and then reboot. Let it charge completely and for about 20 minutes more after it reaches 100. If you do a lot of rebooting I have found the phone has issues. I only reboot with the phone plugged in, otherwise it drops 2% every reboot..
Be careful, I did that with a ZTE Zmax 2 once (75% charged battery) and it sent a phone into a bootloop. The only means of fixing it was that I luckily had a 2nd Zmax2 laying around and used its battery on the bootlooped phone which remedied the problem. Both batteries work fine , I just swapped them between the two phones.

I used to worry about this too. This is my first LG product and it MAY be different but at the Sprint store the first thing they would normally do is pull the nattery to look at the ESN. They never bothered to power it doen forst so I asked a couple times and was told it will mot hurt anything. I had Samsung products for uears and have done battery pulls at all levels of charge and for many reasons, but I never had a problem as long as the battery had enough juice left to boot the phone. If not I had to charge it, LoL.
Just thought I would share, I personally wouldn't worry.
I know on my old Nexus 6 pulling the battery with phone on was only an issue with fsync disabled using a custom kernel. I think most phones have built in protection to stop this from damaging the file system.
so a battery pull is your fix? lol some ppl should be hard resetting every so often regardlessi reboot at least once a day
hi
my v20 phone battery draining was about 1% per hour before (about 7% totally ) and recently increased to 2% during sleeping time overnight. (draining 15% overnight in sleeping state)
it seems that during day either performance off battery is decreased.(about 5h with wifi and screen on usage)
Fast charging while second screen is On , is slower than when it is off therefore when second screen is Off , fast charging goes better . exactly , first 30 mins fast charging makes about 40% battery charge(instead of 50%) and after 60 min leads to 85% and full charging taking place after about 100 min instead of 80 mins.
another important thing is that sometimes shades have been seen on the LCD that many users have complained about it.
phone information is :
Android security patch level: September 1, 2017
BASEBAND : MPSS.TH.2.0.1.c3-00045-M8996FAAAANAZM-1
KERNEL : 3.18.31
BUILD NUMBER : NRD90M
SOFTWARE VERSION : V10g-AME-XX
MODEL NUMBER : LG-H990ds
my actions are as follows :
phone is factory reseted. No third party apps is installed. [especially social media apps.]
battery calibration steps for not rooted phones is taken place.(turning off the phone and charging several times repeatedly).
testing battery drain in safe mode in done and didn't change results
turn off location services and location scanning for WiFi and Bluetooth scanning
turn off WiFi being On during screen is Off.
turn off auto sync, NFC, GPS etc.
not using auto brightness.
not using comfort view .
turn off location services and location scanning for WiFi and Bluetooth scanning
second screen is off during test overnight. (either with second screen is ON with faced down to lower brightness in other day test )
phone is in Air Plane Mode and all data services is off.
system apps like Google services and Play and Assistance is limited by permissions.
following are some advanced battery drain overnight figures of my phone for more analyzing.
any help with this issue is appreciated.
While I don't get extremely bad battery drain. The few times I've noticed it going down a bit faster than normal have had Android system at the top of the list or at least 2nd in place. A reboot usually fixes it for a while. This has happened in every ROM I've tried. Also I swear that stupid Wi-Fi scanning when WiFi is off option in locations settings turns itself on when it feels like it. I rarely turn my location on and I've checked a few times and that feature is on for whatever reason
Power down.
Pull battery.
Hold power button for one minute to discharge any juice that may be on the motherboard.
Let phone sit for 30 minutes.
Put battery back in.
Power up.
The motherboard and battery should now be re-calibrated. If you still have problems, try a new battery.
Hello guys!
I've been wondering - how your phones behave when they run out of juice?
All my previous phones were going from 100% to 1% without any problems, then, when the battery was at 0% there was a message that Android is shutting down and the phone then turned off. Normal thing.
However on my G6, I've NEVER had such message, also my battery never went to 0% or even 1%. It always stays at 3% for some time, then suddenly it drops to like... 2% and then it shuts down instantly without any warning. Sometimes it shuts down at 3%... Just turns off, no message displayed.
And before you reply - yes, I know that I should never drop the battery that low but sometimes it's not that easy when I'm travelling somewhere and my powerbank is also dead. But I'm very curious how your phones behave, that's why I'm asking
Besides - one time I had a problem with my battery when it was around 30% and my phone cooled down to like... 0 degrees Celsius. It also turned off instantly and was dead until I warmed it up. Did you have such problem too?
Thanks in advance!
"unfortunately" LGs have always had that behavior, similar to the "longer 100%".
About this some users believed that LG battery percentage is calculated differently according to the user usage, but who knows the truth...
Only thing I could say you for certain is that it's "normal" on LGs

So, my last 5 phones was an LG and i guarantee you this is normal with LG phones.
In the first ten or eleven chargings the phone should drop like 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and shut down at 1% but fast when change from 2 to 1.
when well calibrated i mean let it discharge fully 1 time per month and they only should shut down when it reach 2%. LG phones only go at 1% when new and always go off at 2.
I dont know why your phone dont display the shutting down message isnt normal because my LG phones everyone of them show it, maybe is too fast and you dont see it was i belive it is.
My G6 was only about 1 week and only shutting off at 1% but my V10 shut down almost at 3%.
The 100% bug is an LG thing but for me this is a calibration method different than Sony, because sony will go 0% before go off and LG dont.
DOnt you worry, is normal but if you can charge it when have 30 - 35% is better because leave it discharging too many times lowers the cicle of life than a battery can last.
