Amazon Kindle Reader 3.6.0 - Kindle Fire General

Version 3.6.0 was released to Google Play on June 12. It adds new margin and line spacing controls but on my KF (rooted, and running CM9 Vanilla ROM) the bottom row jump links (Previous Article -- All Articles -- Next Article) do not work.
I reinstalled version 3.5 over 3.6 and discovered that the margin and line spacing changes made in version 3.6 were retained! The bottom row jump links do work.
Thus, before upgrading to version 3.6.0 I suggest:
1. Keep a copy of the apk of version 3.5; I put mine in my sdcard/download folder.
2. Install version 3.6.0 from Google Play. Make your margin and line spacing changes.
3. If the bottom row jump links work for you, OK. If not, install 3.5 over 3.6.
Note that if you want to change your margins and line spacing, you will have install version 3.6.

VEGAn 1.00 beta 5.1.1 supplement - Thanks Roebeet for staying on top of it!

List of fixes / enhancements in this supplement:
- Maps 5.1 with the rotation fix
- Market 2.2.11
- Updated drivers that should bump up Quadrant slightly, and significantly improves Nenamark scores
- Frame rate change from 50 to 60
- Replaced the Froyo keyboard with the Gingerbread keyboard
- Added Adam Sniffer app, and their keyboard as an option
Quick instructions: This is a supplement, not a full firmware. You would run this like any other update.zip, but since the changes are small you shouldn't have to wipe data. You'd want beta 5.1 as your baseline, before running this, download link is further below for the full install of beta 5.1.
I know that the VEGAn users probably haven't been "feeling the love" the last few weeks, so we wanted to at least bump you up to some of the latest changes ported to TNTL. I have been plugging away hard on CM7 and VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition and rothnic's expertise with a lot of the these enhancements are the reason why they exist right now. The Nenamark bump actually originated from our Adam testing, believe it or not.
As Per usual USE THIS ROM AT YOUR OWN RISK. We highly recommend clockworkmod recovery as a pre-req. We are only testing for cwm users.
I would also recommend a full data wipe between updates, at least for now when we reach STABLE RELEASE stage this may not be always necessary. There is a great tool out there you can use if you don't know about it already called Titanium Backup it is on the market and there is a free version. It allows you to backup/restore all your apps and even save/restore data for those apps... the only caveat I will say is do not restore any system apps (ie. apps preloaded with our roms) this can cause issues.
****The First Boot after installing BETA 5.1 will take a few minutes to catch up and will feel "laggy" this depends on how much media you have on your device for it to scan in the first time****
**If you are having issues with the new market telling you you don't have enough space to download then your SD Partitions are incorrect and need fixed** -Boot Clockworkmod, select advanded, then partition SD, 2048 for first option, and 0 for second. process will take ~10 mins ******WARNING THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTING ON SDCARD (internal) MAKE A BACKUP!!!!******

ONLY DO THIS IF YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT G-SENSOR BEING RIGHT FOR MOST G-SENSOR GAMES & WOULD RATHER HAVE MOUSE SUPPORT BACK -- *****PATCH TO REMOVE G-SENSOR FIX AND RESTORE MOUSE SUPPORT***** - ONLY INSTALL THIS AFTER BETA 5: http://vegantab.gojimi.com/download/patch.VEGAn.BETA5.remove.Gsensor.zip **Flash this like you do the roms in clockwork**
This is a collaboration between myself, Roebeet, and Rothnic - The G-TabDevs Team.
BETA 5 changes:
* NEW KERNEL **Thank you Rothnic** We have compiled alot of new features in to this with more on it’s way at some point.
* LAG on WAKE FIX! woo hoo! no more laggy tablet after sleeping.
* CIFS support (allows mounting shared folders over a network) – search CIFS in the android market for apps
* NTFS support (this gives us the ability to mount drives formatted NTFS which is popular on Windows machines…. Larger File Support)
* Ethernet on DOCK Support (This will only work right now if the device is booted while connected to the dock to activate the port)
* ***UPDATED EVEN BETTER****G-Sensor Fix (this has been long awaited by many! Fixes most games that use the g-sensor for controls, etc.) **this is a DIRTY FIX but it works… only issue is it does mess up mouse usage… so if you are a mouse user and don’t care about the g-sensor being right for games there is a patch below that you can apply ***AFTER*** you install BETA 5.
* REBOOT OPTION has now been added to the power menu. Remember that popup menu is a scrollable menu so if you don’t see it all use your finger and scroll on down!
* I increased the DELAY for the LONGPRESS Power button to bring up the menu… it is now a full second. This has dramatically decreased the number of time the power menu has accidentally popped up when trying to wake the device.
* Added the Tablet Compatible Stock Calendar that I dropped on you guys at Christmas on the Website.
No Major theme changes, nor some of the other fixes that I have been having issues with. The next release should include those. This is the LAST BETA I believe. The next release will take some time so settle in for a bit while we work on Release Candidate 1.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Benefits to us
- Soft buttons, like TnT. But no TnT UI layer getting in our way. So, for example, keyboard replacements should work.
- Just as fast as the new builds we have if not FASTER.
- Vega build has a bootup script where we can install user-based apks, after a data wipe. So, for example, Flash is now added to the build.
- Vega firmware development is probably more active than the official TnT development, at least from the little I've seen so far (though TnT have been fairly active lately).
Known issues
- Videos are not being automatically scanned on the EXTERNAL SDCARD.
*****FIXED**** Weird orange bar is showing up in the stock Calendar app *****FIXED****
- The newest Market apk seems to have issues with any device that's been re-partitioned outside of the default of 2048. The "fix" is to re-partition your SD back to the default of 2048, in clockworkmod. Thanks to proengin for informing us of this.
Changelog
- (a2) We are using alpha1 as our "base" image, and then a modular format on top of that. So, alpha2 is a full update.zip package.
- (a2) VOLD should be fixed using a hack. 30 seconds after bootup, SDCARD2 should start working. Or, it may not work. It's an alpha.
- (a2) Vega user apk script has been added, which is supposed to add Flash on a newly wiped system. But it's spotty at best.
- (a2) Camera should be fixed.
- (a2) We're deleting some of the unneeded system apps like Twitter, Facebook, the Htc stuff in gapps and talkback. You can always add these back via the Market. The reason is to keep the image a little cleaner.
- (a2) Audio fix added.
- (a3) Added changes to the framework for smaller status bar and VEGAn boot screen.
- (a3) Added Gingerbread keyboard.
- (b1) SSL bug fixed. Also, added the latest YouTube and Gmail apps. Removed the user apk script for now, as it's really buggy.
- (b2) VOLD post-boot replaced with a mount commend. Should be more stable and might fix the disappearing apps, I hope. New Gmail, adhoc wireless support added, adfree hosts file removed (get "adfree android" app in the market to get it back), removed the Phone apks which should improve battery life.
- (b3) Mounting issues should be completely corrected, audio issues are corrected, new rothnic theme added, new Gmail and Voice apps, new Settings app with advanced Wifi (and policy is set to "never sleep" by default).
- (b4) A New Cleaner Base System Image with the addition of files from new Advent Vega Release (we can finally get rid of the hacked together Image That I originally created for VEGAn)
- (b4) New Kernel (from latest unreleased TNT Update kernel version #15)
- (b4) New Boot Logo(replaces G-Tablet on white background)
- (b4) New VOLD Binary and MediaProvider(allows media to be seen from External SD Card as well as internal)(videos are not being automatically found on SDCARD2 ATM I am working on that)
- (b4) Settings app no longer has Call Settings option or mobile networks as it is not a phone
- (b4) New Market (We have got it showing even more apps... but still not all. Still need to do the market hack.)
- (b4) Some Graphics and Performance Improvements reduces video tearing issue among other improvements (G-TabDevs Performance Pack)
- (b4) New Music Player(pulled the one from CM6.1 and got it running on VEGAn)
- (b4) framework laid for bluetooth HID(not sure if it is fully functional yet please let us know if it work for you)
- (b4) laid the framework for POSSIBLE OPENVPN support(not fully functional yet sure if I can get it to work yet)
- (b4) New Theme Improvements - Switched to a more Cyan color highlights (the previous green may be available as a small update at a later date.
- (b4) Flash now auto installs on first boot up usually after about 15 secs so the tablet can finish booting

Is there any way to have the Home button bring up the launcher instead of the Clock app? Or am I experiencing a unique issue?
HID Testing
How do I enable the bluetooth HID? I am trying to connect to my keyboard, but I don't see any option for it?
It does bring up the generic message to try "0000" or "1234" however it did not work, or do I mis understand? is this something I need to do at the command line hidd --connect etc?
Everything else seems to work great, at least what I have tested.
Thanks !
Wiped everything before install. Runs well, but noticed a few issues.
First, my power button stopped putting the device to sleep. I could hold and get the shutdown menu. Reboot fixed this.
Second, if you use the lock screen feature and try to log in before the device finishes starting up (after a power on or reboot) the touchscreen becomes unresponsive. You have to hold down the power button for 10 seconds to force shutdown. Noticed this with beta 3 as well.
Third, hacked TSCalibration doesn't appear to be proloaded to find INI file on root of /sdcard instead of /sdcard2.
Seems great other than that!
So far so good! Wiped data, cache, and dalvik then installed. Got TB and restored my Pro license, then selected apps with data (no system data) to restore. Entered in Gmail account, tested Market. Applied Swype install/hack and rebooted. Running smooth, Quadrant in the 2400+ range.
The only problem I have is I can't sync my Facebook account under Accounts. I don't need this per se, but I'd like to have them.

I wasn't totally sure I had bluetooth HID licked this round or not... I don't have a bluetooth keyboard to test with... looks like we are part way there maybe by the next build we'll have a better understanding of what needs done.

Ehunyadi: you are one of only two people experiencing this issue. I would like to know what the model number of your tablet is. On the back starts with UPC3*** etc. It seems this may be linked to a specific run of devices but we are not sure. Let me know so I can track down the root cause of this.

Thanks for the response !

Now that's weird... I guess it is not model specific then... It seems like something is telling it the tablet is docked when it clearly is not. Just to clarify did you do a full data/cache wipe in Clockwork Mod after installing BETA 4?
Just trying to run through the troubleshoot list.
Was loudness increased? Seems louder. Also seems a tad quicker.

[ROM/MOD - BL1.2 ] FrankenTAB [G-TABLET/ZPAD T2]

Updated 03/14/2012 FrankenTAB v1.1.0
FrankenTAB aims to pick up where the gtab-devs left off with the Froyo based VEGAn-TAB 1.00 b5.1.1 (our v001a is a direct port of b5.1.1 to BL 1.2 with a clemsyn kernel). The current build is a heavily modified Brilliant Corners 1.3.1 base (advanced version of VEGAn-TAB 1.00 b5.1.1), with an overclockable (1.6ghz) & undervoltable kernel from the Clemsyn universal Froyo Skype Fix.
1) This MOD is based on Roebeets' Brilliant Corners ROM for the GTablet. See the description for Brilliant Corners for more info.
2) I am using the latest kernel and WIFI drivers (Skype/SOD/PPP fixes) from Clemsyn, all thanks for the speed of this ROM should go to him.... not me. This ROM is overclockable (to 1.6Ghz) and undervoltable via SetCPU (Get it from XDA if you are a member, or from the market if you want to support the developer)
3) Jcp171, Cobey, and Sharpe351 have been a huge help to me with FrankenTAB. Much thanks goes out to them for their continued help and support.
4) I got the blessing from GoJimi to include the newest version of VTL Launcher in our rom (v1.7.5 - This is NOT on the market yet). I would suggest that you drop in over at http://vegantab.gojimi.com/ to see what's going on with the OFFICIAL VEGAn-TAB ROM, which is based on GINGERBREAD, and show your support for further development of VTL Launcher by purchasing the release version from the Android Market or via a donation on the VT-Labs / VEGAn-TAB website.
INSTALLATION NOTES:
Before attempting to install this ROM, please understand how to use NVFlash (Roebeets thread) to restore your system should something go wrong.
You will ABSOLUTELY need to do a data wipe / factory reset with CWM BEFORE install. I also recommend formatting your sdcard and wiping the dalvik cache before install. my current procedure is:
1) NVFlash to version a 1.2 bootloader base image including CWM
2) Perform my wipes in CWM (data / cache / Dalvik / Format SD)
3) Mount the Tablet via USB from inside CWM / Copy all the needed files to the tablet
4) Install the Rom in CWM
5) Reboot
In more extreme cases a tougher wipe may be necessary:
0) MAKE BACKUPS OF WHAT YOU WANT TO KEEP
1) boot into CWM and format your sd card to 4096/0 then back to 2048/0 (this has cleared some of the problems for some people)
2) format dalvik cache
2a) -skip this step the first time you try, but it may end up being necessary- NVFlash back to a stock 1.2 setup that includes NVFlash (if you are on windows, I posted my NVFlash folder link (HERE) that has a few batch files for stock or CWM recovery)
3) wipe data / factory reset (in CWM)
4) -my method- format /system & /data (by doing this, it basically makes blank, formatted partitions)
4a) wipe dalvik cache again! especially if you let your system fully boot after the NVFlash - CLEAR THAT CRAP OUTTA THERE!!!
5) mount usb and copy over the zip file to the root of your internal sd card (which should be empty after part 1 - if not repeat step 1)
6) install zip from sd card
7) Reboot.
MAJOR RELEASE NOTE: The version 1.1.0 release is a full installation package with a completely new base. As such, please make a backup of your data just in case a full wipe becomes necessary during your upgrade process. I highly recommend a fresh start, but since we are upgrading the kernel, a wipe of the dalvik cache is mandatory at the very least.
APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY: KNOWN ISSUES as of release v1.1.0
(Thanks to Jcp171, Cobey, and EVERYONE for helping work through the app testing):
General Apps:
1. Market: Working properly with the standard market fix... slightly limited before the fix.
2. Skype: working. I have been using it for a while now and it seems to work like a champ.
E-mail:
1. Default E-mail: Works great, but being a non-Gingerbread ROM, Secure Corporate E-Mail setups may not work (Mine does not because of lack of appropriate security suppprt)
File Managers:
1. ES File Manager: Ran fine, was able to give file manager root. UPDATE: You can just long-press the STAR icon to get to the root directory. (THANKS bdds13!)
2. iFileManager: Works fine, but is just a basic file manager. For root access use ES file explorer or root explorer.
Utilities:
1. Anreboot: Fine for reboots, but DO NOT USE THIS TO REBOOT INTO RECOVERY. It will likely only ever reboot into recovery forcing you to NVFlash the device to get it working again.
Games:
1. Plants Vs Zombies: (Doesn't work)Loaded and got all the way into the first level but quickly crashed. Will crash at some point either loading or trying to play. At the most it's extremely unstable...
2. Gem Spinner II: Not functional
3. Game compatibility with several games improved (Cut the rope now works) by removing the undervolt and returning voltages to default levels (still at 1.6ghz). May vary tab to tab... (Note: Even lowering the speed to 1ghz did not change Plants vs Zombies or Gem Spinners non-functional statuses...)
Any other apps we tested worked. Please let us know if you find an app with a problem and we can make sure to confirm the issue to help Pix out.

"I have included 1.6 ghz, Skype fix, PPP. With PPP, I had to upgrade the wifi drivers to get it to build so not sure SOD fix will hold but please test for me thanks." - Clemsyn
Clemsyn has asked us to test his latest kernel build for froyo with SOD protection, Skype fix, and PPP support. Grab the download and let the testing begin. If it goes well I will incorporate it into the v1.1.0 release of FrankenTAB. UPDATE 02/08/2012 - This will be the new default kernel in the v1.1.0 release - all tests confirm this to be an excellent release from clemsyn.
Grab FrankenTABv001a from HERE
- v001a is based on VeganTAB 5.1.1 just ported to the 1.2 BL with clemsyns kernel and a market update. (Still seems to be fairly popular - I will continue to support v001a as best I can for those looking for the classic VEGAN experience on the 1.2 boot loader.)
SCREENSHOTS:
Work is coming along good on v1.0.2. I hope to have a release ready this weekend. This release will be very minor tweaks to some icons and graphics that were not receiving a lot of love from the community, along with some tweaks to the build prop.
In the next phase of testing I will be looking at kernel options including support for ppp in the default kernel, along with the possibility of an optional kernel or kernels. (will be v1.1.0)
Anyone that wants to test v1.0.2 I have uploaded a testers update HERE please be detailed in reporting any problems or new successes that are found.
Cool does camera or google talk work with camera?
Is this the full ? : FrankenTABv100.zip or is it this one FrankenTABv100RC1-full-install.zip
Thanks cant wait to try it
P.s Oh NVM i see its 2.2 none of the new Google apps will work thanks
Version 100 is the latest full file. version 100rc1 is the older release candidate.
no PPP support
Same like other ROM with clemsyn kernel
I try to use pppd (pppd /dev/rfcomm0 call xxx) but got message below
pppd: This system lacks kernel support for PPP. This could be because
the PPP kernel module could not be loaded, or because PPP was not
included in the kernel configuration. If PPP was included as a
module, try `/sbin/modprobe -v ppp'. If that fails, check that
ppp.o exists in /lib/modules/`uname -r`/net.
See README.linux file in the ppp distribution for more details.
Any chance to compile kernel with PPP support ??
I can ask clem to compile me a custom kernel, but it may take a lil while. I had planned to ask for something custom from him anyway so I will toss that in too. I will post an update in the second post when I hear from him, so keep an eye out.
I have been running this since 1.0.0 and love it. This is the ROM I have settled on. After trying Gingerbread and HC, I came back to Froyo for estability and speed. Love the icons on the status bar (Home, back, menu). All acceleration works including HD video. Like I said, very smooth and stable. All the games also work with it.
Netflix, Flash, Skype work.
Just loaded up over flashback, no problems here. Running so great!!!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Excellent ROM
Love it!
I love it!
Are you considering changing the icons to ICS themed icons?
I may look into it for a future release, but right now I have to post the update (v1.0.2 is live) and try to confirm that, with the new kernel that clemsyn compiled for us, SOD issues are solved and SKYPE IS WORKING PROPERLY!!
watch the OP in the next few mins for the updates and details!!

You should NVFlash back to stock, and then try to install. Thats the best help I can give with the information you have provided.
Good luck. If that doesnt do the trick, let us know and we can try to work through it.

If it goes well I will incorporate it into the v1.1.0 release of FrankenTAB

Hi PixelRider,
I try pppd on 1.02 update but still got error message below
FYI, I'm trying to do DUN over bluetooth connection
I follow instruction at link here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406847
It works on cyanogen ROM which is based on gingerbread
But none of froyo based ROM works and always reported such error message
I attach chat binary for froyo which i compile in case somebody
want to try this
pppd: This system lacks kernel support for PPP.
So far the ROM is great. I came from brilliant corners. My only issue is sometimes with flash, it's all blocky and distorted like a messed up NES cartridge.sound is fine.i fix it by full screening the flash video or changing the resolution, then back. Also, is there a DSP manager, or sound booster working in this ROM (for speakers, not headphones?) Thanks
Wifi can sleep when screen turns off?
Using 1.02 update, I notice also wifi never goes to sleep eventhough
I have setup wifi sleep when screen turn of in wifi sleep policy
Anybody experience the same?

DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING SAMI OS:
To Download my ROM, please visit its webpage and while it downloads you can spend your time reading all the instructions and tips that are mentioned in this thread. After the Download completes, you can start reading the instructions given below and please read all the instructions carefully to successfully install Sami OS...
Prerequisites:
A fully functional GT- i9070 or i9070P of course
Your phone must be having enough Battery charge (30% or more - just to be safe)
Your External SD Card must be having enough Storage capacity
Your phone must be running any of Samsung's Jellybean (4.1.2) firmware. If you're running Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread, then please upgrade to Jellybean 4.1.2 first! Or if you're running Android 4.2 or above then please downgrade to Jellybean 4.1.2, then you'll be able to install my ROM.
Your phone must be Rooted
Your phone must be running a custom kernel which has either TWRP or ClockworkMod recovery installed (Recommended Recovery: TWRP)
(Optional) You must have Odin and Samsung's USB Drivers Installed on your PC. You must also have a USB cable and a copy of Samsung's Jellybean firmware; just in case you fail to install Sami OS and end up with having no OS on your phone
(Optional but Recommended) You must backup all your Apps, Games, App data, Memos, Messages, Call logs, etc. to your External SD Card. But do note that I will not be held responsible if you lose all your files, apps and all your data since installing any ROM will require deletion of user data for preventing common installation errors.
Installation of Sami OS:
- Download my ROM and put it on your External SD Card (make sure it has sufficient space to store my ROM in there)
- Reboot to Recovery. To do that, turn off your phone and Press and hold Volume Up, Home and the Power button and release it when you see the Samsung Logo after a short vibration...
For people with TWRP Recovery:
- Go to Settings and Disable (un-check) Zip Signature Verification
- Then go to Mount and check (mount) System
- Then go to Wipe > Advanced Wipe and check System, Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache. Then swipe to wipe/erase them. As stated above, doing all these will erase pretty much everything on your phone so make sure you backed up everything first
- Then go back and select Install, switch to external_sd card and select "Sami_OS_For_GT-I9070.zip"
- Then swipe to flash it and the rest of the Installation should be automated, so wait for a while for the installation to finish
- After the Installation is over, it should show a "Successful" message in Blue text. Now all you have to do is press on Reboot to do Reboot to System!
For people with CWM Recovery:
- Go to Wipe data/factory reset and Confirm its deletion
- Then go to Wipe cache partition and Confirm its deletion
- Then go to Advanced, then select wipe dalvik cache and Confirm its deletion
- Then go to Mounts and Storage and mount your system
- Then on the same menu, select Format /system, /cache, /data and /preload folders one by one
- Now go back to Main menu and select Install zip from sdcard
- Then toggle signature verification to DISABLE it
- Then on the same menu, select "choose zip from sdcard"
- Now search for "Sami_OS_For_GT-I9070.zip" and select to install it... the rest of the Installation will be automated, so wait for a while for it to finish
- After that's done you can now go back to main menu and choose "reboot system now" to Reboot your phone. And that's it!
- Your phone should now reboot and it will be "stuck" on that "awesome" Boot Animation for a while; so don't worry.. it happens every time you install any Custom ROM - so there's nothing to worry about. Just wait for about 3 to 5 minutes.. BUT if your phone is experiencing a bootloop (i.e taking way too much time) then reboot to recovery and wipe your cache, dalvik cache and data again. If that too doesn't fix it then please refer "If Sami OS didn't successfully get installed" section below....
- If everything goes OK then you will see Sami OS' final installation wizard which requires you to setup your user language, your Wi-Fi, your Google Account, etc...
If you constantly keep getting Force Close errors on the Setup Screen, then do this:
Even though I never experienced this after flashing my ROM, this is what you should do if you have this problem:
- Reboot to Recovery
- And Fix Permission (TWRP: Advanced > Fix Permissions.... CWM: Advanced Menu > Select Fix Permissions)
If that did not work then here's what shut_down did to fix this issue:
- Reboot to Recovery
- Perform a Factory Reset and then Wipe Cache (Refer the instructions above.. you're just basically doing the same thing)
If Sami OS didn't successfully get installed:
If things go horribly wrong then...
- DON'T PANIC
- Reboot to Recovery and wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache AND/OR perform a Factory Reset
- If that did not work then make sure that the zip you downloaded is "complete" and not "corrupted" and install again
If none of the above helps then follow the instructions below:
- Reboot to Recovery and wipe your entire System (i.e Everything!)
- Then reboot to Download Mode (to do that, turn off your phone and Press and hold Volume Down, Home and the Power button and release it when you see a picture of an Android logo after a short vibration...)
- Press volume up to continue and connect your phone with your PC using the USB Cable
- Open Odin and wait for it to recognize your phone
- Then click on PDA and choose your stock firmware
- After it verifies the .md5 checksum; click on Start without checking any other check-boxes or anything else
- It should then install Samsung's 4.1.2 firmware
And that's pretty much it! So Congratulations, you just installed Sami OS on your phone! So now there's only one last crucial step remaining.. And that is to take pride and update your Signature and click on the Thanks Button. I hope that you will all enjoy using it...

The default music player, Play Music+ can be laggy and slow sometimes; this is because its a heavy modification of an earlier version of Google Play Music app (fixed in 1.2 Update)
The Digital Clock widget doesn't load.. Maybe because of the differences in version of Android or due to missing framework or library files (fixed in 1.3 Update)
MiXplorer - the default file explorer in Sami OS 1.2 has a bug. It will force close (almost) every time you browse through your Root partition. (fixed in 1.3 Update)
The default messaging app in Sami OS 1.2 cannot receive any messages. (fixed in 1.3 Update)
The size and position of "Minute" in the default clock app in Sami OS 1. 2 is wrong. (fixed in 1.3 Update)

FAQs, Tips and Notes, My Opinion on my ROM, Credits and Acknowledgements
Should I install/update in a chronological order?
Yes. This means that you should install Sami OS 1.0 first (if you haven't already) and then reboot to system. Use your phone for a while and setup everything. Once all that is done, reboot to recovery and start installing the updates one by one (in a chronological order) without rebooting to system.
Is updating from 1.x to 1.z possible?
Yes, it is possible. But its recommended that you install 1.y first.. So that you won't miss out from any new features or fixes that were introduced in the 1.y update... I know that this will become a little tedious, but its the only way for me to keep the size of the updates smaller - so that it can be uploaded and downloaded much quickly. Detailed instructions on how to update to my ROM's latest version is available. Just look for it on the Second post of this thread.
Flashing so many zip files is a little tedious. Why not merge all the updates into one zip file?
Even though I've considered about doing this ever since I released the 1.1 Update, there are a lot of some reasons why I'm not doing this. You can download the ROM and all its updates and mods on your PC , extract them to a single folder and then manually merge/combine all of them. Once that's done, select the 3 folders (META-INF, system and vrtheme) and use any file archiving software (like 7-zip or WinRAR) to make a zip file out of it. Let me know if you bump into any problems.
Can I flash xyz performance/battery mods or scripts while I'm using your ROM on my phone?
No. My ROM already has a lot of scripts and various other tweaks and mods. So adding more will either have no effect or make things worse (slower performance, boot loop, high battery drain, etc.). So please ask me first before installing anything like this and I'll try to find out if it'll work on my ROM without any issues or not.
Tips & Notes:
Below are some tips and notes which I'm sharing from my experience:
Please don't use your phone after restarting or turning it on for at least a minute.. Its going to lag.. This is probably because the system is still busy loading all its services, files, apks, scripts and because the media server will be running in background.
You can use Greenify to disable most system apps like Google Play Services to get lower battery consumption (while phone is idle). Additionally, you can also use CoCore E 8.2 Kernel if you prefer better battery life over performance
The best way to clear your phone's RAM is by doing a Quick (Hot) Reboot instead of Normal Reboot.. This is because Hot Reboot just restarts the OS; not the entire device.. Thus its faster than a Normal Reboot and also doesn't drain your battery while it reboots
You need to disable MMS to save yourself from the recently discovered Stagefright security vulnerability by using a small app. Look for "Samsung_KNOX_and_ZHA_ap_MMSCtrl" under the Add-Ons section
If for some reason your phone's system partition becomes read-only then type this into Terminal Emulator:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 /system
Before installing any mods or scripts please make sure that they are compatible with Sami OS! Because I added a lot of tweaks too; so my tweaks may interfere with the tweaks you install!
You can use apps like SDMaid Pro to maintain your phone's optimal performance by clearing cache, (old) logs, bulk of unneeded files and disabling auto-starting of certain apps on Boot
The safety_level is changed from 3 to 1 in libsqlite.so. So, there is a small risk of data corruption here. This is because no fsync is done before databases are committed into disk and hence it'll be faster but at the slight risk of corruption. This could include launcher widgets going missing or SMS messages going missing or corrupted etc.. But do note that this is the default behavior in JB 4.3, KK 4.4 and above. You can revert back to the older libsqlite.so file if you want to avoid any risk of data corruption.
If for some reason adb is no longer working then add this line below to your build.prop and then give it another try:
Code:
persist.service.adb.enable=1
After updating or installing my ROM, if you cannot see your accounts (e.g- Google, Yahoo, WhatsApp, etc.) under Accounts in Settings (app), then all you need to do is log out and sign back in. You should now see them now
Please disable Keytones, Touch Sounds, Screen lock sound and Haptic Feedback under Sound menu (in Settings).. Use only if required to do so; because they all contribute in consuming your battery.. The same thing goes for Motion options as well..
Checkout this simple trick to change the Status Bar's gradient orientation
For switching to Material theme on your Keyboard, go to Settings > Language and Input > Google Keyboard Settings > Advanced Settings and change the Color scheme to "Material"
For my own benefit, I chose not to Re-odex my ROM. But if you want to Re-Odex my ROM on your phone then you can use Universal Odex Script or anything similar to do it. Because I did not try it yet, please tell me if you did it and succeeded.
If you're into pimping, tweaking and modding your phone, then you should definitely checkout Xposed (if you haven't already). It drastically simplifies this process by taking away the need for flashing zip files or modifying any apk or jar files!
Checkout XMultiWindow. It's functionality is quite similar to Samsung's MultiWindow functionality - but this is way better in my opinion
Checkout XBlast Tools. It's more or less like an All-in-One Tweak Box. You can change a lot of stuff in your phone on the go without modifying any APK files!
If you don't want to use CRT Off animation then please uncheck it from Settings > Display (obviously ) and then using MiXplorer (or any browser with Root access), go to system > etc > init.d folder and open 03_crt_net.
Look for the lines containing "fbdelay" and "fbdelay_ms" and delete or comment them out. Save the file, set the proper file permission and restart for it to take effect. This should remove the "delay" in powering your screen off..
You can disable Touchboost feature to save some more battery.
Using MiXplorer (or any browser with Root access), go to system > etc > init.d folder and open 02_kernel. Look for
"echo on > /sys/kernel/mxt224e/touchboost" and "echo 500 > /sys/kernel/mxt224e/touchboost_delay" and delete or comment them out. Save the file, set the proper file permission and restart for it to take effect
If for some reason you want to have a persistent notification of USB debugging (enabled) then add this line below to your build.prop:
Code:
persist.adb.notify=1
Right now, the best kernels to use with Sami OS are CoCore E 8.2, 10.0 and Refresh R09 (link to thread)
If you're wondering why this thread is full of textual information, its because I want to this thread as Noob Friendly as possible! And yes, I typed each and every words - so yeah, I think I deserve a thanks for that too.
More will be added soon to this list very soon!
My Opinion on my ROM:
I've been running the "pre-release" and the "final" version Sami OS for quite some time now.. And yes, my phone is super smooth with the combo of Sami OS and CoCore E r09 BUT I did notice some occasional hiccups and lags on my ROM too! I'm sure that a very few developers will tell bad about his/her ROM, but I'm just like you - I always want the best in my phone and so I am being honest with you.. Nothing is perfect in this world, and my ROM is certainly not an exception.. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't use it.. Because it indeed is super smooth most of the time!!!
One more thing.. my ROM still isn't completely optimized for Aggressive gaming, multi-tasking and battery conservation yet but I hope that it will get better along with the future updates it'll be getting..

[MOD] Add Extra Keys To Your Nav Bar In Android O style

This should be in the development section but I don't have the required amount of posts so I put it here, no worries...
Disclaimer
Your phone your responsability!!!
Please make sure you read everything, especially the "IMPORTANT" chapter, I won't reply to question(s) whose answer(s) is/are here!!!
I made a SystemUI navigation bar mod for me and I thought that some people may like it so I share it here with you guys.
It enables you to add extra keys (left/right/up/down arrows for text correction or navigation on pages, volume up/down, music panel) directly from the navbar tuner settings.
I have seen on XDA news that you can achieve the same result by editing the settings_secure file but it's not very practical because every time you have to reboot before the new key appears.
REQUIREMENTS
A Nexus 6 (obviously):cyclops:
TWRP
Android Nougat 7.0
IT WON'T WORK ON 7.1!!!
FOR 7.1 SEE BELOW.
IMPORTANT!!! DO NOT SKIP!!!
I made this mod for my ROM that I built from source based on Pure Nexus 7.0, so I can't guarantee that it'll work on a different ROM brand.
If you come from another ROM than Pure Nexus feel free to try and report here, I made a rescue zip to get you back to your original configuration in case it doesn't work so you don't need to worry.
But back up anyway, just in case.
Now we may a problem, that is application signature.
As said above I'm on a home built ROM, and I have signed it with my signature, signature that is unique to my ROM and that will prevent installations on a different ROM.
What I did to have it to work for you guys is that I signed the apps that I put here with the Pure Nexus 7.0 original signature, that should be OK if you are on Pure Nexus 7.0.
If you are on a different ROM, or if you are on Pure Nexus 7.0 but for some reasons it doesn't work, you'll have to do as follows:
- extract your SystemUI.apk in /system/priv-app and put it on your internal storage or computer,
- open it with 7zip or something similar,
- inside you'll see a META-INF folder and AndroidMAnifest.xml, extract them,
- open my modded SystemUI,
- delete the META-INF folder and AndroidMAnifest.xml inside of it and replace them with the ones you extracted from your SystemUI,
- close everything,
- zipalign my modded SystemUI (optional but better for optimization, zipaligning has been lost since the signature has been replaced),
- now my SystemUI has your signature so you can flash the zip.
If it still doesn't work then you're out of luck, to have it to work would mean to have your ROM's source and do the edits there but sorry, I won't do it because it's too much work (downloading 20 GBs of data for the source, compiling a whole ROM etc...).
In that case upload your SystemUI.apk and your framework-res.apk here and I'll try to do it, but no guarantees...
7.1
Why am I not on 7.1?
I tried it but there wasn't any interesting new features for me so there was no point to switch to it and go again through the lenghty process of downloading the source, compiling it, editing/theming/etc-ing all the apps, no, I sticked to my good old 7.0.
INSTALLATION
There are 3 zips.
1 - The green theme is the one I use on my phone but it may look weird on yours since the green theming needs other apps to be complete. Give it a try though, it looks nice to my opinion!
Tell me if you want the full green theme, I'll upload here the other files.
2 - The stock theme is the regular Nougat white theme.
3 - A rescue zip to get back to your original SystemUI in case something goes wrong.
Backup your ROM (probably not needed, but just in case)
Choose which flashable zip you want, put it on your phone, flash it in recovery, reboot.
You may have to resize the keys if you want to have many of them on the nav bar, as for me I have 9, check the below screenshot to see what's the ideal size to have all of them to fit.
OTHER KEYS
If you want to try other keys do as follows:
- find the key code number for key you want to add, here are some examples (not tested so not sure they all work):
CALL = 5
ENDCALL = 6
DPAD_CENTER = 23
CAMERA = 27
* Used to launch a browser application:
EXPLORER = 64
* Used to launch a mail application:
ENVELOPE = 65
NOTIFICATION = 83
SEARCH
MEDIA_REWIND = 89
MEDIA_FAST_FORWARD = 90
MUTE = 91
PAGE_UP = 92
PAGE_DOWN = 93
MEDIA_RECORD = 130
CONTACTS = 207
CALENDAR = 208
MUSIC = 209
CALCULATOR = 210
CUT = 277
COPY = 278
PASTE = 279
- open settings_secure (it's in /data/system/users/0),
- edit the sysui_nav_bar field, here's an example if you want to add a camera icon:
key(27:file:///storage/emulated/0/camera.png)
27 is the key code for the camera, camera.png is a camera icon that you'll have to put on your internal storage,
- reboot,
- please report here if it works or not.
The new keys can be used in conjunction with tasker (see XDA news for the related tutorials) to only appear when certain apps are opened but if you want I can add them to the list of available keys in the nav bar tuner, let me know.
TO DO (NO ETA)
I'd like to add a custom key to launch the applications drawer but I didn't look into it yet and I don't know if I'll manage to do it anytime soon, I'm pretty busy at the moment.
That's all, enjoy!!!:good:

reserved, in case...
you can do the same with last stock 7.1.1 firmware without having to root, or install twrp or unlock the bootloader or whatever...
you just have yo use this app :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xyz.paphonb.systemuituner
it needs a special permission but changes take effect immediately, no need to reboot
my settings for exemple :
left button switches off the screen and right button launches Google app.
Yeah well you know, there are different kind of people on this forum.
Some of them don't want to bother and understand how things work so they rely on apps to do customizations, theming etc. (and sometimes complain that their phone becomes unresponsive, lags and stuff, yep, too many apps), you seem to be in that category.
Other people don't understand how things work but they are willy to learn and they may be interested by this mod because they will learn something in the process. It's for them that I took the time to make the zips, register on XDA, write the OP and upload the files, and that I offered to try to make it work on 7.1.
That said today I added the assist key in the nav bar, but since nobody seems to be interested I won't waste time to upload the new apps here.
Farewell guys!!!!
take it easy man !
I like to know how things work, I understand what I'm doing and I'm not complaining about anything !
My Nexus 6 runs like a charm.
I wasn't saying that your post isn't interesting but just giving the information that there's a simplest way to personalise nav bar that works with stock 7.1.1 firmware.

Oreo open beta 1 Chinese version already available

I guess global version will come within 2 days.
http://www.oneplusbbs.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=3876301&mobile=2
Step by Step Guide - Android 8.0 Chinese beta. Clean/dirty flash lock/UL BL.
Hello Guys,
To make things easy heres a step by step guide to install the chinese oreo beta on locked/unlocked Bl for the 5T
So I got my hands on the android oreo chinese beta (H2OS) and flashed it on my oneplus 5t which was on a locked bootloader and running stable 4.7.6 with star wars theme enabled. Here's a step by step guide to install H2os Oreo beta rom wtihout losing any data.
WARNING : BACKUP - BACKUP - BACKUP and flash at your own risk. I would not be responsible for any loss.
METHOD 1 : FOR LOCKED/UNLOCKED BL BUT WITH STOCK RECOVERY
1) Download the rom from this link : https://goo.gl/4nPrxx
2) Ensure you have backed up all your important data and make sure you have atleast 50% battery.
3) Copy the downloaded zip to phones internal memory (make sure its in the main directory and not in any folder.
4) Go to settings > system updates > top right hand corner tap the settings icon > tap local upgrade > tap on the downloaded file > tap update now and wait for it to finish installing the update. ( first boot will take 8 to 10 minutes so please dont panic.
5) Once first boot is done you may have a force close for 1 or 2 apps just uninstall them and reinstall from the play store and you are good to go. Also star wars theme continues to work and all basic functions work as expected.
6) If you want a clean install or having many force closures please perform a factory reset and everything should be resolved.

2. Third-party applications may not compatible list, please download the attachment compression package. Android O may not be compatible with the application list. Rar (25.83 KB, Downloads: 364)
This a translation of the update. I used g translate. :good:
It seems to run OK. Obviously some stuff is still in Chinese. I tried to flash TWRP and TWRP booted but even after a clearing cache/Div the ROM then would not boot. I just got a white light.
For initial install I did a complete data format then loaded the stock recovery ,and the latest stable OOS, then flashed the Chinese O.. You do need to pull a PlayStore .APK and reload all the Google apps after a flash.
Unless this one is different than the one they have on their main site, it's not Oreo. I flashed it, tried flashing Gapps and Gapps said I had to flash appropriate Gapps for 7.1 :/
Very nice. Thanks for the write-up!
Already open beta 3 now.
