For those that want to flash alternative firmware (custom or official), but wish to continue to use the original modem.
This is handy in the above circumstances, particularly for thoose using the GT-I9300T, and where no firmware is yet released for download.
NOTE: Due to possible confusion, this I9300TDULE6 modem attached is extracted from my Thailand firmware and is identical to other regions using I9300TDULE6 such as Vodafone AU.
Requirements:
1. CWM Recovery & root (Thanks Chainfire!)
2. ADB setup and know how to use it! or Terminal Emulator app
3. Samsung KIES drivers installed
4. Power on device, Enable USB debugging
**If you don’t how to do above, then XDA forum search and Google is your friend**
Steps:
1. Dump your current modem onto your internal sdcard

e) exit
2. Download SGS3 (I9300) CWM Modem zip below (don't extract) to PC (Thailand_I9300TDULE6 is attached)
3. Drag & drop the dumped modem.bin directly into zip
4. "Copy & replace" when prompted
5. Rename zip to new version
6. Copy zip to internal sdcard
7. After flashing any firmware, boot into CWM Recovery and flash from internal sdcard
8. Reboot & enjoy
+ Check modem version: phone menu > settings > about device > baseband version > .......
++ If you wish to reduce the size of the modem.bin from 32 to 12 MB, please refer to this post :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35905178&postcount=52
With a little bit of stuffing about, it's even possible to do all this without a PC using Terminal Emulator (dump modem.bin) & Root Explorer apps (extract zip, move/replace modem.bin & re- zip)

Also, I have a Vodafone version T model with modem DULE6, same as your attachment. I could just use that?

Double check iin phone menu > settings > about device > baseband version is actually I9300TDULE6.
If it has the T, it should be same and good to flash.

The modem I've linked is same as yours and ready to flash. Your welcome to use it, as are all others. This will save you some time
The guide is mainly for any other possible (current or future) T modems that may need to be extracted if specific firmware is not yet made available for release.
To answer your Q, and of you like to just try and do things yourself (education), just follow Steps 2-8.
Basically, download my zip (don't extract), drag & drop your dumped modem.bin straight into the zip, "copy & replace" when prompted. Done

Thanks for the easy to follow guide on extracting your T modem from the i9300T. I have pulled the Vodafone modem off of my i9300T but I've got a feeling it wont be the same as Thailands T modem. Im sure Vodafone would have tweaked their modem file to suit their network.
Anyways, If anyone wants the Australian Vodafone i9300TDULE6 modem CWM file, here is a link to download it.
http://db.tt/SLBehsnU

If someone could do the Telstra modem file that would be a great help, since Im using my vodafone T model on Telstra.
Cheers guys..
I'll read through this and dump my Telstra one later tonight if I get time... assuming my original stock CWM backup still works

TDULE6 is the same, otherwise it would be benamed as all have before them on SGSII. The same could now be said here with SGSIII.
All free to use the guide and backup your device though
Hrrrrmmm.... so I have just realised that CWM backups do not actually backup the modem, so I cannot extract the stock Telstra modem from what I have.
But when booted into my stock Telstra CWM backup the build number is listed as IMM76D.I9300TDUALE6
So I'm guessing (could easily be wrong though.....) that the Telstra specific modem will have the basband version designation I9300TDUALE6
(just one little extra A )
It would be great if someone with a stock Telstra handset could check this, and if true extract that modem that would be swell....

I 'm afraid CWM Recovery doesn't backup the modem
Check your clockworkmod folder..........
1. boot.img
2. recovery.img
3. cache.ext4.tar
4. data.ext4.tar
5. system.ext4.tar
6. and nandroid.md5 (checksum)
Edit: Just saw your post above

You need to check the "baseband version" not the build.
Baseband = modem = radio
Edit: would be nice for anyTelsta user to dump their stock modem for us. I use Telstra when in Oz due to the greater coverage.

Thanks for that.
But,.......I see it is the same named TDULE6, same as Thailand & Vodafone AU in the .rar you provided.
I noticed the size of the modem was identical when I replaced the existing TDULE6 modem into my zip.
In any case, I repacked into a CWM flashable .zip and flashed away (just in case)
The baseband still remains I9300TDULE6 and ni change to signal, strength etc
Are you sure this is official Telstra, have you flashed anything that may have overwritten the original modem? If not, and your running pure stock (except root and CWM recovery), what is your baseband and firmware details?
In dialer, type:
*#1234#
Thanks
Thanks Just flash the Telstra modem and use it on my Optus GS3..lighting quick!!!!
Noticable difference..strongly recommend.
I am of course using my GS3 on Telstra
Now the modem is I9300TDULE6

Yep, Telstra TUDLE6 modem is SAME as Vodafone AU, SAME as Thailand.
They may release specific carrier modems (such as on SGS2) when firmware is more mature.
If you find any difference, it will be placebo.
Testing needs to be done at same location and time of day.

This thread will not discuss fixing Download Mode on effected mobile phones.

Why did I write this:
I have been across many threads, including the XXJVK firmware thread, and I did read many posts by members asking on which firmware to flash, if it should be the one with bootloaders included or the one without.
I did also find a post telling our members to flash the bootloaders only and not the whole firmware.
I would like to clear some things up for our members and why there is 2 versions, one with bootloaders and one without bootloaders.
Why 2 versions:
If you flash the firmware without bootloaders when your device have been running only Froyo and have not flashed the Gingerbread beta XWJV1 before, then your device is still using the old bootloaders and you will notice the followings:
* Graphics corruption during boot.
* The device will not be able to enter Recovery Mode.
Just to make it easy to understand, please look below:
XXJVK firmware with-out bootloaders + Froyo/Eclair bootloaders on device = Graphics/Screen corruption + Can't enter Recovery Mode
XXJVK firmware with-out bootloaders + XWJV1(GB Beta) bootloaders on device = OK!
XWJV1(GB Beta) firmware with-out bootloaders + XXJVK bootloaders on device = OK!
Froyo firmware with-out bootloaders + XXJVK or XWJV1(GB Beta) bootloaders on device = OK!

After the device has been updated to the new bootloaders by flashing the firmware with bootloaders, then it will work with any firmware, and you don't have to flash the firmware with bootloaders again, this is why there is 2 versions, because bootloaders flash can be risky, the package that does not include bootloaders is for those that have already flashed a full XWJV1 or a full XXJVK with bootloaders included, may need/like to re-flash, or for those that only want to try the new firmware.
Why not flashing bootloaders alone:
Flashing bootloaders is risky, this is why when the XXJVK with bootloaders has been repackaged then it was repackaged so 2 files will be flashed prior to bootloaders, so if there is a bad connection between the PC and the phone or with Odin by any chance, then Odin is far from touching boot sectors, and by that a member can have a good flash even while flashing a full firmware with bootloaders included.
I don't advice to flash bootloaders only, if there is a bad connection or Odin hangs by any chance, then you have nothing but a paper-weight nice-looking-dead-device on your desk.
My question is: Do you see any thread or a post in this forum that stats a bricked or a dead device after 16000+ downloads and then take the risk of flashing bootloaders only?

@Ramad, thanks for this information. Do we know for certain whether Samsung have 'locked' these new bootloaders like they did with the Galaxy Tab ones or can you flash back to a 2.2.1 Rom with no problems after flashing the Gingerbread bootloaders?

The bootloaders are not locked and will not prevent the device from flashing or using older releases(Froyo/Eclair), I have tested the new bootloaders with both Froyo and Eclair and they worked fine.
<Don't try it if you don't really know what that implies !>
I've only Flashed Sbl.bin (after add it in a tar on Linux machine, don't make it with another tool !) fixes graphics corruption and recovery and downgrade to 2.2.1 works like before.
</Don't try it if you don't really know what that implies !>
I must confess a noobish doubt, how can I see if I have bootloaders ?
I'm using a custom rom JS8 Froyo
So I can determine wich version should I use

Every device has bootloaders, but if you are asking if it's the old or new bootloaders that are installed in your, then you have old bootloaders if you have not flashed the beta XWJV1 or XXJVK package that has bootloaders included, those 2 firmwares has the new bootloaders.
Thank you once again ramad

Bootloader files are in the PDA tar archive, when you flash the PDA tar archive, the bootloaders on the device will be updated, this is why I wrote that checking 'Phone Bootloader Update' will not matter. If the file that you have is called PDA_XXJVK_Sbl.tar then the bootloaders in your device are updated now.
SBL Bootloader / Rooting.
[Ramdad], Thanks for the post.
I've got the SBL exe, which I assume will flash the bootloader in the correct way. Now my question is, if I want to update my firmware, is it safe (bootloader wise) to flash the JV1 & root kernel and then the JVK kernel?
Thanks!

Thanks, just flash JVK that you have and you will be fine.
[Ramad],
Not trying to confuse people, cm7 and MIUI require 2.2 bootloaders even though the firmware is 2.3.3.
So if you are from Samsung rom like xxjvk or jv1 and going to cm7 or MIUI, you will encounter screen tearing as well. Downgrade to a 2.2 with bootloaders will eliminate the tearing.
Hope you can include this info as well.
P/S: As always, thanks for sharing this with the users here.

I've never used Odin, but I guess you need to download all parts of the archive to your computer, and then unzip it with something like Winzip or similar if you are on a Windows box.
After that you can probably use Odin as usual with the unzipped file/files.

Eeeeh, you shouldn't zip them together to a single file, you should open them in winzip and extract the content....

That means one of your zip file is corrupted. Just use winzip to unzip the first file and end result you will get exe file : P6800ZSKL2.exe
Run this exe file to extract out the rom files

Guys I have one of the prototype versions of p6800 (IR port is working with Peel app!) with Kies giving me HIDSWVER P6800XXKJ2/P6800OXAKJ2/P6800XXKJ2/P6800XXKJ2. My CSC is XEU.
Kies does not allow me to upgrade. Which would be a correct firmware to flash?
Hi all!
After searching without interesting results, I come here to see if someone else has noticed this issue I'm facing.
Ever since I did the Root De La Vega and went to MJ1 with it, any official firmware I flash works ok and changes the csc and all other parts accordingly EXCEPT the modem/baseband that is stuck ever since on N9005XXUBMJ1
I've downloaded the latest ODIM tar file for MJ6 and it flashed all well without a hitch EXCEPT for the modem that, yes, still is at N9005XXUBMJ1.
Tried Odin 3.09 and 3.07, full FW and also only the modem.bin file with the same bad result.
There's no error whatsoever while flashing, and you can see the blue progressbar on the phone, and then it reboots as usual, but the baseband is still the same.
I even went and used a hex editor to check that the modem, bin was actually a different version (in the latest MJ6) and it is in deed the correct stated version.
So... has anyone else noticed this behavior or even knows to point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.
Thank you very much in advance!
PS: I can even go BACK in firmware version to XXUBMI7 without a hitch EXCEPT the baseband that stays frozen...

Thx for reading and replying!
Well... sadly yes... I wish it would be a bad download, but I already tried many different ones, ZIP decompresses correctly and the TAR images flash without any issues...
This is a screen capture of latest try just with the modem file (another download) with the same result...
I just have left to try a dd to the correct modem partition and see if that changes anything...
Really weird... Phone is working correctly and I get signal and everything is working ok, but it seems forever stuck.

Dit you try extracting the modem.bin from the stock rom tar file and flash it with odin? Put it in the CP slot. I did that yesterday to firmware MJ3 and updated the modem to MJ2 this way. It did't trip my knox counter.
M8 take out battery for a min, start odin and uncheck the autoreboot then pass once the mj2 modem, wait a bit and pass the same modem again and reboot.
Try this, many people have this trouble

You wanna lauph now? From my measurements the mj1 modem is better in carrier signal but more power consuming but mj2 is better in Wifi and less power consuming.
If you have good signal stay as you are, I personally rolled back to mj1

It's available from Samfirmware for BTU (UK).
Flashed it without a hitch and with MJ4 modem, as it should be.
I imagine it was stuck on MJ1 with a bad flash.

Well... in my case I knoxed the hell out of my N3...(But it will be my last Samsung, as I hate restrictions of any kind).
I've downloaded the MJ6 ROM with MJ4 modem. I extracted the modem.bin file from the archive and created a .tar file to flash with ODIN. I flashed, but still on MI6 modem, any idea why? I even flashed the NON-HLOS.bin file but still stuck on MI6?
Technology: The Ultimate Guide To Unbrick 16 Gb International Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N9005) And Upgrade To KitKat 4.4.2 Through Custom ROM

And I was going to make a good old demonstration of "how to install Stock KitKat ROM on your SM-N9005", until the whole thing got so out-of-hand... here are my failed attempts compressed into a real short video...
My Note 3 was soft-bricked, meaning that a failure in flashing software has caused my phone to become a 'brick', a not-dead-but-unusable condition.
It was a bummer! But it is one that can hardly avoid having all those upgrade tutorials on YouTube which didn't mention the uniqueness of 16Gb Hong Kong Note 3. Why should they mention anyway? They don't have 16Gb Hong Kong Note 3 in the first place.
Thanks Samsung for making the Hong Kong Note 3 so special, such that it is the Note 3 with the smallest storage in the world (16Gb) when the rest of the world are getting at least 32Gb! For this and for the trouble you have caused Samsung, I hate you!
After 2 days of research, I have finally arrived at a completely, perfectly usable state!!! And it is functioning with speed!!
However, from soft-bricked to success, the road had not been smooth. There was about a day or so that my phone was able to boot and use the internet, but had no in/outgoing call, no sound, no Google Now, no S-Voice, no camera, slow lockscreen and slow settings.
I have followed all the instructions given by several XDA members, but I still could not get it to work. Why?
That's because all those instructions are inaccurate. The thing is, minor details that are missing can be real serious, and for that, I want to write a very very detailed descriptions on how to solve this soft-brick issue specifically for 16 Gb International Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N9005) when upgrading to KitKat 4.4.2.
Before you start, you'll need,
a Custom ROM, eg. Sweet ROM v7.01 4.4.2 NA6
a leaked N9005XXUENA6 4.4.2 KitKat ROM for Note 3 Download on my blog
a Hong Kong N9005ZHUBMI7 Rescue ROM Download here
the latest CWM Recovery, eg 6.0.4.7 Download on my blog
Odin 3.07 Download on my blog
the latest Samsung USB Driver Download on my blog
Samsung Kies Download on my blog
Note 3 16Gb SM-N9005 from Hong Kong at 50% battery level
a Note 3 USB 3.0 cable
Installation Instructions:
Install Samsung Kies
Install Samsung USB Driver
Connect USB into PC and Note 3, then copy Custom ROM onto the SD card
Put Note 3 into Download mode by holding Power + Volume down + Home buttons at the same time until you see "Warning!!", then press Volume up
When you see "Downloading..." and Android logo, plug in the USB into the PC and Note 3
Run Odin 3.07 (See my video)
When you see a blue 0:[COM4], in the Bootloader put leaked KitKat's BL file, and in PIT, PDA, PHONE, CSC put Hong Kong N9005ZHUBMI7 Rescue ROM's PIT, AP, CP and CS respectively and then press Start to flash.
When Note 3 restarts, it will keep rebooting and it will only show Samsung boot screen, at this time, remove the battery and then put it back.
Repeat Step 4, 5 and 6
In Odin 3.07, go to PDA and choose CWM Recovery, eg 6.0.4.7, and press Start to flash, it will reboot automatically when complete. Unplug the USB.
When the phone reboots, it will boot into CWM Recovery. If it asks you to root phone, just say no. Otherwise, select Wipe data/factory rest --> yes, Wipe Cache --> yes, advance --> Wipe Dalvik Cache --> yes. This will erase the unwanted files and prepare your phone for the good stuff.
Go to install zip --> choose zip from /external_sd and select the Custom ROM you have chosen, then choose yes to flash. This will take about 3 minutes, press reboot after it is completed.
This reboot will be slow, and most likely there will be no sound at boot and errors at setup, be extremely patient and wait for the screen asking you to choose Language to appear. Choose the language you want, press Next, then do nothing else!!!!
Without doing anything else, repeat step 4, 5 and 6.
In Odin 3.07, go to CP, choose leaked KitKat's CP file and then press Start to flash.
When the phone reboots, you should hear the Samsung bootup music and then everything will be functioning perfectly!
The moral of the story is, you have got to have brain and perseverance to work with KitKat 4.4.2.

I have a 16gb Hong Kong Note 3. Firstly I wish to give my congratulations for you, my friend. Fantastic post! Some questions, please:
1- My phone is stock and rooted since the first firmware. I don't upgrade it for the newest version HK Firmware. Is your guide useful for me if I want to update to kit kat and don't wait the official kit kat Hong Kong?
2- After the moment (final part of the guide) that we have to select the language and only check next can I just power off the phone to make easy to start the phone in download Mode to finish the process?
Sorry for my questions and my poor english, my friend. I have read several posts to learn with guys like you. Please let me know. Thank you so much!

1. Yes, that is exactly what I did and what I thought. I didn't want to wait. I came from stock and rooted 4.3
2. Powering off the phone first, in my opinion, doesn't make going into download mode easier. So just directly hold Power+Vol Down+ Home to get into Download Mode

I know others have made posts but they all use ****ty servers. I have uploaded this to Mega and Android File Host as they are both faster and more stable then pony Samsung's crappy servers.
When you flash rom with the setup as in picture it will flash over your previous rom and keep all data and apps and settings.
For maximum stability i recommend after first boot you do factory reset.

3. Go to SuperSU v2.52 Beta - https://download.chainfire.eu/743/Su...erSU-v2.52.zip
Download the zip. Move the zip to tablet.
4. Reboot the tablet into download mode and open Odin on the PC then connect the tablet to PC. In Odin click AP tab and locate the TWRP and uncheck Auto-Reboot then hit start. When done hold the power button + vol up button "the vol button furthest from power button" + home button til you see red writing on top right hand corner. This can take a while so don't panic just wait.

6. Wait for the boot to finish. You are now rooted.
I hope this makes it easy for you!!!

It's not rooted and is untoched. It's completely stock!!!

Thank you. And did you root it successfully? I cannot flash a twrp.
What about region
Whats the difference if my region is not this and i update?
Thank you for links. I wonder what if I install it over 4.3 instead of 4.4.2. Is there any difference?

Not yet I will wait a few days to do anything as I just want to see how it works and the battery life on stock. Then I will root and remove many system bloatware apps and see the difference.

This is the Spanish region but I live in UK and at the very first setup screen I chose UK language so it don't really matter about the region as there is no modem. This device is just WiFi so region makes no difference.

You are welcome. Well I flashed this over a custom rom Hyperdrive 4.4.2 and then once it booted I then factory reset it. Before I factory reset the device it was fine I just like the fresness of roms.
So the answer to your question is I don't know but I don't think it will make a difference as the bootloader is in the rom and will be flashed automatically with the rom. I came from 4.4.2 so I cannot speak about 4.3 but I assume it will be the same result.

Thanks, Ill install too and see what happens!
Just installed! It's running very smoothly. I just realised that they don't have the internal game lollipop when u push the version of the OS. Lol!

Thank you so much for taking time to write each step in details. This made life so easier. You are right the other guide is little complicated. I was not aware that touch does not work in twrp also was not unchecking auto root. But then I came across your guide and believe me it's so easy. Thanks again, I rooted successfully.

I can't thank you enough. I flashed 5.1.1 yesterday and everything was working fine, but I was really missing root. I could NOT wrap my head around the root process as described in the other posts. Nothing against all their hard work, I'm just slow. Your step by step was so easy to follow! Now I'm rooted and happy. Thanks!!
Guys, a question.
If i want to clean install Lollipop with full wipes using Odin on the SM-P601, which is currently on the UAE csc, using the INU csc, what are the steps i should follow.?
And if i factory reset using the recovery, will all my files in the internal storage get deleted.?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks. ☺
Will it work i have 5.0.1 one on my phone

Any idea if the root will work on P605 too? It's got 5.1.1 as well and I'm pretty excited to get on it. However, not may people are discussing about it.
Thanks for the guide btw!

Yes it will work if u download the 605 rom and then from root post download the modded boot image for 605 if available and last thing get TWRP for 605 as well.
Do as described in my guide and apart from what I said above the rest is universal meaning that supersu and closed are the same for all versions.

as I held these three buttons, I watched as the Samsung note splash screen flickered and restarted over and over. I held for about 10 minute and gave up after my hands got tired. After that, I couldn't get past the splash screen and had to do a straight ROM via ODIN.....can I still root? What was I doing wrong??
