So I installed the WIUI ROM ICS latest 2.6.8.
and i noticed a couple of bugs, except for a general laggy behavior which is somewhat acceptable, the MIUI new music player just FC for no apparent reason when i try to choose a new song out of playlist (just hitting mix all and play works fine)
it also FC when trying to skip into a certain point in the song like jumping to the middle with the scroll button will cause the play to FC.
other then that i was wondering whether i can calibrate the camera Hz frequency so fluorescent light wont cause some gradient stripes in the picture.

flashing gingerbread to galaxy tab p1000 is a nice idea. It opens many app compatiblity to the tab. But its full of issues compared to froyo. I'll share my issues.
first the goodies
Those who still having odin flashing doubts quote here i can give you a beginners guide.
I am going through every aspects. Some are previously discussed but some are not mentioned in any other threads or forums i think. Please share yours too if any.
I flashed gingerbread european version xxjq1.
The best thing i noticed was booting time. of tab went down to less than half on froyo. Very fast booting. Also booting sound changed to a nice music though its not a big deal.
Lock screen is the same as froyo as i expected something like galaxy s2.
But you can set different wallpapers for your home screen and lock screen which was not in froyo.
Home screen is looking same but its samsung home 2.3.3 version. Icons on the home screen dock is changed. Browser icon changed to green. Except that nothing looks changed on home screen from froyo.
Now comes surprise. The notification bar became extremely smooth compared to froyo. Flawless. But not as smooth as galaxy s2 or better devices like that.
Over theme color changed so the notification bar icons color also changed to a more dark green. Best other thing about notification bar is, if you have an ongoing call minimized the bar
looks crystal green lighted. Its awesome to see which is missing on froyo.
Another thing which i think very handy is music player got integrated into notification bar.
When music player is running you can play/pause, previous/next, fast forward/backward straight from notification bar. Big improvement.
now technical
Task manager got updated. There is one more tab named downloaded.
Your newly installed programs are listed here. So dont have to go to settings applications.
Ram manager changed. There is no stage 1 stage 2 option. Only one button clear memory. I think it is good.
Stock browser's change should be admitted. Its like wow. I assure you no other browser you installed comes even close to its user interface. I am writing this now in it. It bacame buttery smooth to navigate. Not a small lag when scrolling on a big content rich page and switching to new tabs. There was no lag to scroll even when youtube was playing in desktop mode with flash. Even my desktop firefox lags a little to scroll when playing hq youtube but our tab aced.
Also there is a memo button and phone button integrated into browser menu bar which is very handy. Overall browser is awesome.
I forgot to mention before there is no new stock wallpapers.
Now about music player the onboard virtual 5.1 improvement is incredible.its like wow compared to froyo. Plug in your headphone and you will notice.
In settings the battery info has greatly improved. There is a graphic demo of battery use.
And ofcourse battery consumption DECREASED much much much. I have to say that beacause i had a problem with the battery. When its about 40%-45% it suddenly dropped to 3% and shuts down in 3-5 min. But now its completely gone. Plus i assure you that you will be amazed with the battery capacity of our great tab.
When using camera the preview has been improved much. Its like flowing when scrolling through pictures. Plus quality of recorded video increased much.
now the media storage system improved much. As i mentioned tab became fast, media scanning also became much fast. Sdcard thing changed to usb storage on gingerbread. Plus there is a progress bar in notification for media scanning. Thats good beacuse we couldn't see progress before.
Call setings is having more options than before video calls voice mail etc on the first page itself.
The stock video player codec improved much. Before i had a brrip mp4 movie showing unsupported format. But now it works smooth. Plus video player became smooth overall on playing.
Anyone with more goodies please add. I'll add more when knowing. I wrote all this for those who want to know changes before trying gingerbread on their tab.
By issues, I assumed you meant problems/bugs/incompatbilities. Are you saying there are no disadvantages to doing it? I've a forgotten XEU tab. I keep hoping Samsung might officially offer GB but the longer it goes the less likely it seems.

Ofcourse there are disadvantages. I was little busy two days so i cant finish. By issues i definitely mean bugs and problems.
Yeah, now comes the problems
Starting from the beginning, the power on is having little problem. On froyo you have to press power button for like 1 or 1.5 sec and release. Tab will power on after one more second. But now I have to press it until it power on. I don't know if its bug or not but for me its annoying.
after booting here comes bigger problem. The four button leds on bottom never turns off until screen goes off completely. Even if there is 1% charge the leds are on. And ofcourse it doesn't turn off when playing videos. Its really annoying like if you are watching a full length movie in a dark room you have to keep starting at these led and its really annoying.
but I have found a solution. There's a widget named buttonbacklight in market. it requires root access. But very useful. And if you turns off screen and on it again led lights again. You have to turn it off again. but that's not hard as starring at those leds all the time. Plus you can cut the led brightness to half with this widget. Great for dark environments. Thanks to the widget maker.
I forgot to mention, the light sensor now works perfectly. on froyo it takes some time to adjust the brightness on changing lighting condi tions as it has nothing to deal with hardware. but now its fine.
Now comes a big problem. The camera is having real problems on autofocusing. you can't use the camera to take shots close by two or three inches on a dark room by autofocusing and flash. You will get only a bright white picture. this was not in froyo. It was perfect. so you can't use the tabs camera to capture text in a dark room. I tried it on black surface also but no use. Its not for completely dark but with limited light also. Set the flash to auto and if flash is needed to take picture then closeups are not possible. I think this is not mentioned anywhere before. And the flash turns off after focusing. Not good on dark rooms as you can't see any
preview.
Sorry I forgot to mention before, there is a big improvement also for the camera. There's TOUCH FOCUS added now.
On froyo there was four options on USB settings. but 'ask on connection' is absent now.
Its very hard if you connect your phone for different purposes frequently as you have to go to settings and change it.
Now comes another problem for media. On froyo music or video pause when you disconnect headphone or what that is connected to 3.5 mm jack. This is good and is present in gingerbread also. But it pauses when you plugs headphone or whatever into the jack. This is annoying but not too hard to deal with.
The gallery app has not improvedand became worse than before. Its very slow and lags to load files. I expected rotation animation on switching landscape portrait modes.
although the Codec improved on video player, its user interface became hard to user.
You can't set brightness for video if your phone's brightness is set to auto. so if you're watching a movie and you want to increase or decrease brightness you'll have to exit video and change brightness. Not on user defined brightness. But very annoying when brightness is auto.
And the screen rotation animation when you switch between two landscape modes is gone. It was a little eye candy.
Another problem is also very annoying. On froyo there was different two different icons for downloaded and downloading tasks as there was a little animation for downloading ones so that you know something is downloading. But now there's no animation for downloading and both exactly same icon. There's only animation for something that is installing. So if you wanna know if something is downloading or the download is complete, you have to pull notification bar down. very annoying if you left something downloading and came to see if its complete as you have to unlock phone and pull down the bar.
Get back soon.little busy.
ram
ram usage is much high than gingerbread. I've got upto 120mb ram usage in froyo. But gingerbread usually use 190 to 200 mb all time. U have to use task manager apps to clear some apps and bring usage to 150mb. But memory management depends on apps independent offree ram. If u run an hd game with a download in some heavy browser, ur download 'll cancel because the game force close browser for resource.
while i was watching a video on Youtube on my Nexus 7, my connection was lagging so i paused the video to let it load, and the video had a bright white background while someone's in foreground talking. I noticed the brightness went down, and i freaked out thinking it might be my screen. But then i went back to the Android home menu, and i have a live wallpaper called "Rays of Light" which displays different colored lights moving on a dark/black background with little circles floating. I didn't noticed any brightness change, nor during browsing on websites, Google Play, or games...
Now i know Jelly Bean have auto-brightness enabled by default in the system settings, but i turned this off.
I do use MX Player as well, with the brightness set to go slightly up when watching a video, but i know i can turn this off (i just might, as i hate sudden brightness changes)
What i want to know is, does the Youtube app feature auto-brightness? and we just cannot disable it? I did noticed some brightness changes in other videos as well, like when watching a game preview.
For the record, i use Glazed Jelly Bean v2.1
thanks for your replies.
My N4 was just updated to 4.2.1, is stock unrooted.
When I have the music player up on the main screen and i lock the screen. The lock screen is glitching and showing a translucent music player coming in and out of existence. It makes it difficult to swipe left or right to access widgets or the camera. But if you manage to start swiping the glitching stops. If i then unlock the phone and hit the home button, the music player sends the controls to the notification bar. Then if i lock the device it doesn't glitch out.
Has anyone else noticed this / can you test it quick? I have to note I am using Klipsch S4A with the Klpisch control app as well. (could it be this is what is causing the issues? I was thinking it might not be optimized for the latest update)
Unfortunately I failed to notice this before the 4.2.1 update so i'm wondering what would cause this glitchyness. It seems to be mostly cosmetic though as it doesnt effect the unlocking of the phone or the music playing ONLY the swiping to the widgets or camera. Very strange.
I've noticed that my music thing doesn't show up on the lock screen half the time but I use double twist so it could be a app update needed for mine
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
It seems the widgets and the music player are conflicting. The clock randomely shifts from the main lock screen to being just off screen to back again - all the while the music player is glitching through the lock screen from the main screen.
ok it just happened again even though the music player was reduced to the notification's bar. Although this is the first time, I can only reproduce the issue if the music player is maximized on the main screen. I'm going to take screen shots tonight and update.
As you can see there seems to be gltiching between the music player and the camera widget. It happens randomly not just when I have the music player up on the main screen. Is anyone else experiencing this??

Yeah I get this too.
So I hadn't noticed my "play music" app had an update available. Guess what? Problem solved haha...
Sometime the smallest thing you miss makes you feel like the biggest noob lol

So after a reboot the problem has returned....sigh!

I have noticed now that the music player is supposed to replace (or maybe not?) the clock widget on the lock screen so you can control you music. It's only worked properly a couple of times, most of the time it stays in notifications bar or i get the damn glitching again. This has to be a lock screen widget bug.
I haven't found a definite answer yet,
but anybody knows for sure it's a bug for 4.2.1 for stock Music app controls not to show up on lock screen during playback??
I haven't seen any other bugs reported earlier in this thread.
UPDATE: Restarted and it started working..
Yeah sometimes it works properly...seems to be random

Same issue sometimes !
Same thing happens with me too sometimes ! Not quite often ! I usually lock again, and it behaves normal !
This happens on my phone every time I use Google Music. It doesn't crash anything, it just look unattractive when trying to unlock the phone.
hi, i noticed it too. you can force this glitch by 1.) starting a track in gmusic.
then 2.) go to the homescreen and list all recent opened apps an swype gmusic away.
you will notice that the music continues.
3.) now lock your device by pushing the power key an push it one more time to get to te lockscreen.
On the lockscreen there will be the gmusic widget.
4.) tick "next track " on the gmusic lockscreen widget.
Same thing happening to me on my Galaxy Nexus with CyanogenMod 10.1
Not only Google Music but other players too.
Same thing happens on my SGSII on CyanogenMod 10.1
I see it with Pocket Cast podcast app.
It's a bug in the lockscreen widgets - I have it freeze on me every few days
It's a reported bug.

Star it so it gets more attention.
Had 4.2.2 for a few days now and I have just noticed when listening to music and the screen is locked you get the forward, back, pause shortcuts. Well when you his pause there is animation of the pause rotating to a play icon. Hit play and it rotates into pause, as if it was a single shape. Beautiful touch.
Oh and I have no lag and fantastic battery life hence being very impressed with little things like that
Anyone else notice little touches like that?

Yeh, the first one I noticed is that the music controls on the lockscreen actually work, both with Play Music and Walkman. On my S3, I had to use a custom lockscreen with player controls because their crappy modified lockscreen wouldn't play nice.
My phone is in repair at the mo but I'd like to see a gif or vid of this "animation" you mention.
it even works with third party players like Poweramp and others (not all of them though, depends on their settings)

I didn't find this anywhere else so I do hope it's something new and it's not just me missing something.
I suppose you already know of the illumination bar bug that enables you to have the illumination bar's light dancing with the screen off or when out of the walkman app. If not, all you have to do is make a shortcut of the walkman app on a homescreen, have something playing on the app, and then while on the screen with the shortcut, tap the walkman app and then quickly tap the home button. Now after you've done that the illumination bar will work out of the walkman app and/or with the screen off.
Now on to the new fun stuff I discovered. Install poweramp(haven't tested with other music players) and do the bug mentioned above. Make sure the bug worked(if you're on the home screen and the illumination bar lights up with walkman playing it worked) and then just go to poweramp and tap on a song to play. Now you just caused another bug, a more interesting one. This time the illumination bar works with (almost)any sound coming out of your phone. For example the light will dance with a game's music just like it did with walkman. The only 'downside' is that the colour will always be that of the song that played on the walkman app before you played the song in poweramp.
Illumination bar API... lol
Android version this was tested on is 4.1.2, build number 12.0.A.2.254
Is not a new thing, is just nobody cares abou that (?)
Actually, you don't need to install or run another music player, you just need reproduce anything that cuts off music (some music games for example).... So the steps would be: turn on light bug > while playing music make it stop but no close (start a game with music, the old "ram problem" chrome+walkman works) > voilĂ
