Anyone experiencing greatly increased speeds in the Kzoo, MI area? - Epic 4G General

Speeds have been okay as of late, 300-500kb down, 300-500 up. But this morning I was greatly surprised by how fast the market was downloading updates. I did a a speedtest and was receiving well over 1200kb down, 700kb up. Three speedtest in a row confirm this. Anyone else experiencing this?

I'll try a tower or two in Grand Rapids tomorrow and follow up here. Dont know about kzoo though.

I'm in Kalamazoo. I'll check it out tomorrow when I'm away from my Airrave. I have to use one at home because my entire neighborhood is a dead zone.

Im in Kalamazoo and after seeing this thread I did a Speedtest. 1327 Dl and 750 Ul. This is by far the fastest I have ever seen over Sprint (out side of Wimax). Thanks for the heads up.

No dice in SE grand Rapids. 600/250 with full bars.

I thought it was a one day fluke or something, but even today 1.4 down n7 up. Me like!!

Yep they have been working on their network it seems... speeds in columbia mo did the same thing a couple months ago... data got pretty fast, and it has stayed that way since... went from lucky to get .25 mbps to over 1 or just under 1... and that is during peak hours... seems as though you have had some tower upgrades!

I hope this continues. I hate trying to find a wifi spot just to use my phone around Kzoo.

I just tested in my backyard (Millwood area) with only two bars and got 895 down and 370 up. Not bad for a poor signal.

I've tested everywhere from 0.12Mbps and 9.1Mbps, but typical is between 4 and 7Mbps. Uploads are fairly consistently between 1.5 and 1.75Mbps.
Does the title of this thread bother anyone else? Bandwidth and speed are two different (yet related) things.
ANYWAY...I'm getting 3-4Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up most of the time. Every once in awhile I'll see my download speed jump up to 6-9Mbps. Upload is constant for me.

[Q] Extreme 4g slowness - Fort Worth, TX

Is anybody experiencing pathetic download speeds on 4g? I've been getting 128 kbps down the past two days (prior to this speeds were excellent). Upload speeds are good, so i'm inclined to think that this is a local issue? Any ideas?
I'm using AvaV9 with the latest radios.

Well I dont turn on 4g often but yes very slow and not reliable in North Richland Hills....I am normally in Dallas during the day where i only max between 3-5mps..At night i connect to wifi....My opinion, it waste battery and only good if your outside in our area/ regular 3g is always reliable 512kbps up and down
my friend is getting about 10mb/sec.
Although clear has been acting up. Been extremely slow the past week.
I am in slc utah but have been having the same issues. 4G download speeds are very slow off and on but upload speeds are still at standard 1 mb. I'm still trying to figure this one out....

shoo, in Richardson (just a little outside of Dallas) I get 2 mb down at home but 10 mb down at my school..
Edit: I take that back, I tested that like a couple of months ago, after posting that comment I went back and tested my 4G at my school...I was gettin a little under 100kb down and 3mb up. That dont make no sense.
Edit2: Ok, what the hell goin on here? I get home where I have 4g, but no bars, and Im pulling 1mb down...haha this 4g is playing with my emotions!
I am seeing the same thing in Frisco, Dallas, Plano and Carrollton although... It is VERY hit and miss. From my office I typically get 3-5mbps, it seems that here recently something has happened and there are times when I get less than 100k. Are any of you guys using an EVO? I've also noticed that with the 4G turned on the CPU goes to 100% sometimes (haven't been able to replicate with 4G off.)
Boss has EVO, wife has EVO and we all see the exact same thing...

In Fremont, near SF, I've never had a problem with my 4g. Even with just 0-1bar of 4g, it's always been solid and consistent, around 8mbps down
Yea, I had a peice of paper on my door this morning saying 4g tour is up. So I decided to try 4g again and now on I'm getting 5mbps down and 2 up. Yesterday I posted up above in this thread with horrible speed. North Richland Hills/ Ft worth

Anybody consider the elevated solar activity since sunday as a possible cause of the current issues? I know my cable has been pixelating, and my home internet has been intermittant. Just something to think about.
Also I have never seen speeds as fast as you guys get on my EVO. Of course I run CM6 so I only get 3g but I have never had speeds above 1mbps usually alot less. Oh and I'm in the North Fort Worth/North Richland Hills/Haltom City area.

My 4g speeds are back to normal.
Have been getting terrible speeds all week long in Downtown Dallas. Both 4g and 3G have been very slow.
yo
my 4g speed hits 10-11mb/s on average right here in fort worth, right around the 820/35 area and pretty much up and down 820, all the way to jackborrow (sp)?
haven't tried downtown area yet but ill test it out and let ya know
Mine is very hit and miss the last few days. I will have periods of good speed, then it slows to a crawl. With tethered downloading I especially notice an initial burst of speed, then at times it slows to 10kb/sec =(.
Well i just found this snippet from some article
Clearwire told Electronista:
Throtting is based on the current utilization for each cell tower, and many low-use towers do not throttle speeds at all. For high-use towers, throttling occurs during peak-use times.
A customer’s maximum speed is based on the number of gigabytes of data transferred in the past seven days and the download speeds for the past 15 minutes. Speeds are recalculated every 15 minutes, at which point a throttled customer will be bumped up to a higher speed. Rather than implementing one speed for throttling, the calculations will move customers between 48 different speed brackets.
The worst offenders using peer-to-peer software on Clearwire’s network may face repeated throttling.

Seems to fit my symptoms like a glove. Bums me the **** out too, because when im throttled I might as well be on dial up.

3g data speed sux.

Is anyone else experiencing slow 3g speeds? Iam talking about speeds like 15-70kbps down. Ever since two weeks ago the data speed here in Wisconsin is so slow its retarded. Just wondering if this is happening elsewhere.
Yes I've tried different roms, kernnel, and phones. Pri,prl, radios are all up to dated also.

yes I tried. They hung up on me once and I got disconnected a few times after that. So I went in to the sprint store and ask, they said that their 4g is down and everyone on 4g is pushed over to the 3g network so that's why its slows. But it sounded like BS, cause Theres no 4g hete in Wisconsin

I been having 3G issues all day too here in Delaware, but strangely 4G has been working flawless for me
EVO on Tapatalk
I'm by the Michigan Ohio border, and I have had this problem for over 2 months now. At home and where I work, I'm less than a block from a tower at both locations, and used to get about 2000kbps down and 1500kbps up consistantly. About 2 months ago, it got horrible. On average, I get around 40kbps down and 10kpbs up. Sometimes it doesnt work at all. This happens anywhere I go. But, once in a while I would get normal speeds, usually only early in the morning, then the rest of the day/night it would be bad again.
After spending hours on the phone with sprint, refreshing the network, and doing 2 factory resets, they decided it was a hardware problem. I took the phone in, they agreed, and gave me a brand new evo. For a few days, it worked better, not as good as it was, but better at least. Then a few days later it got worse again.
I have since done 3 factory resets, had engineers from sprint come out, and they say everythings fine. Whats weird, the other day I was at a friends house, who only gets verizon signal at his house. While roaming on the verizon towers, I got normal speeds again, around 1800kbps down. So obviously there isnt a problem with the phone again, as the 3g seems to work fine there. I have been calling sprint every few days, and they have no clue whats going on, they say nobody else in the area has called in about this.
I'm giving this another month, and then I'm permanently leaving sprint. Data is the main thing I use my phone for, and I cant load webpages or stream pandora.
Sorry for the long rant haha but I thought I would let you know I'm having the same problem.
socal here
me and my gf's epic are having HORRIBLE 3g speeds..100-200 kbps...I used to have ~800..its been like that for around 2 weeks now...last saturday i went to la puente california and speeds out there were ok..~600kbps...but where i live and where I work..3g speeds are pure crap...
No problems here in Sacramento, getting 100-140KBps d/l, 100KBps u/l.
Ok for the past 7 days me been getting slow speeds like rev o my ups wont go over 150kb and down wont go higher then 1mps no more use to get like 2.4mps stable then i heard from sprint engeniers that there gonna realease ev do rev b and wimax wave 2 on new years or on jan 6 when dan heeae anccounce it and that y 3g been caps atm

Only way to conduct a test is same location, same test application, and same time of day/night.
I don't see any difference other than day/night because of the usage in day vs night.
What are your test conditions?
I am litterally sitting in the same chair which is in the same spot as prior testing. Ill check later tonight again to see if its network load but it was consistent any time of day before. I would get fluxuations between 4mb and 6mb but never below 4. Now I cant get over 2mb.

At my home nothing has changed I am still screaming fast, but at work after about the first week my data speed has just falling all to hell, worse then before the patch, I am talking dialup modem speeds. I am just hoping it has something to do with updating towers or somesuch and will get better. So I can say I have the same problem at work as you , but not at home.
Maybe they are working on towers in your area.
Maybe there was a RTA and the nearest tower was damaged.
Maybe it's a particularily electric day with a lot of static in the air.
Lots of reasons your signal can change.
Network load changes throughout the year too. Things like college kids coming home and high school kids staying home can really overload a neighborhood tower.
Coverage is crap at home for me.

I have had terrible download speeds on sprint for another half a year. Now I'm getting 1.5 mbps down and its been like that for a week.

Sprint has been going through and updating their towers to handle more load.
For my area the estimated repair date is 8/31/11.
Not sure why people thought this was going to be a permanent issue.
My local tower went from 1k to 1.5k down to 28 to 67kb down since Friday. If it is still bad tomorrow I will be giving sprint a call.

I noticed the tower closest to my house was upgraded or something. Went from .3mbps to 1.75 but its in and out it seems. One day its good the next its back down to .1mbps or 100kbps which is pretty much unusable. When it takes 2 minutes or more to load google's mobile webpage something is bad wrong.

Sometimes it's not about population but what's cheapest and easiest.
I mean if it truly came down to population then NYC would be the first for every tower upgrade by all carriers.
But that's not the case.

I've seen brief moments of better speeds but they never stuck around.
I had some speed problems back in January/February, but it cleared up a while ago. Now it's not too bad here in San Antonio except for pockets of signal loss in weird places.
I had decent data speed since I sign up. But since couple weeks ago untilled still my data speed drop down 100 to 50. I'm not please about this but I have patiant and hopefully sprint will improve there data speed.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat, though there was one Friday a few weeks ago that I pulled over a Mbit per second and was able to stream something on Netflix in the afternoon. Was hoping they had finally fixed the tower by work but nope, Monday it was back in the dumps. If it's still like this when my contract comes up I'm going to have to consider changing carriers.
I am in St Louis and usually i average about 600 kbps but yesterday and today I am averaging about 1600 kbps and last nite I was averaging around 2200 kbps. I have never had speeds that high and I have been with sprint for over 9 years in St Louis. This is all on 3G, I cannot get 4g coverage at my house.
Where I work I usually roam in the office but now I am getting 1500 kbps on sprint.
Hopefully it will last.
in a small town nearby i use town because it isnt a city because its part of the city i live in but its a town. Yea one of those places..
Well anyways where I live i seem to be pretty far from a tower. im like a mile or something from it and i get around .3 m down. and when im in the other town which i can get within hundreds of feet of the tower i get 1.8 down an down the city has only 22k people so for me its the distance from the tower. and not many of them here.
