Hi. Really sorry if there's already a post on this. Is there a way I can turn the speak off when my ear phones are plugged in? I'm getting all the sounds like msg and ring tones coming out of speaker when my ear phones are plugged in. Thanks in advance.

Are you sure your headphone jack is plugged in fully? Haven't heard of this before - the speaker should be disconnected when the jack is inserted so all calls come in via headphones.
Have you tried bluetooth headset to see if that has the same issue?
Which ROM/Kernel are you using?
If you are still having issue then maybe a hardware fault - in which case take it back to Sammy under warranty.

The main point of this is so that if your earphones are plugged into your phone and they aren't in your ears the speakers ring to let you know there is a call or notification so you don't miss it, I don't think there iis a way to disable it though, or at least not on a stock rom

I'm on paranoid android 4.0.4. Yeah the ear phones are fully in. Wasn't sure if it was all phones that did this or something in settings that can disable it. I have them in at work so obviously its good if I get my msg tone and ringtone through my ear instead of through both. Thanks for your quick replies.

i know exactly and i wish there's a way to disable the speaker when the ear phone is plugged. I remedy this by going silence when i am plugged.

When I plug in the headphones(the one's included) the output comes from the speaker AND headphnes at the same time? I might be a lil tipsy but I can't find in the menu for this....I just wanna hook up my headphones and quietly jam out. But can't!

How did you guys fix this? I tried battery pull and turned on/off but no luck. The headphones quality sounds horrible when this happens. Starting to think it's a hardware issue? Thanks for your help.

All I did was did a battery pull. Left it out for about 10 seconds, then put it back in. I must say the sound quailty is nice(headphones that were included). I came from a moment and sound was low....on here its loud

i had the same issue when i was using Btunes to listen to music. When i went back to the stock app and also doubletwist the issue went away. I thought i was going crazy when i sat my phone down and could still hear music. LOL.

I had the headphones/speaker playing today at the same time as well, it happened when I didn't push the headset in all the way and then backed it out and replugged. It probably botched the software up going in/out/in like that, probably locked the external speaker on.
Yours, on the other hand, sounds like hardware. When the cable gets wonky on my aux wire, I get severe quality issues and I can kind of imagine what you're getting at with yours. Make sure that the plug clicks all the way in, and if the problem keeps happening - hardware it is.
Running stock dk28 and I'm missing phone calls because the ringer is playing out of the ear piece speaker instead of the speaker phone speaker. Has anyone seen this? Anyone have a fix?
Also, my ear piece speaker pops sometimes for no reason. It's really killing me!
To note, stock di works just fine, no pops, nothing. Ringer works just fine.

I posted about this issue a while back. It seems to happen after disconnecting Bluetooth.

I've often wondered if that was the case. Wonder if it has to do with the bluetooth stack? So really, only the two of us are having this issue?
It's possible that you two are the only ones using a bluetooth headset that detach it while expecting calls.

Acutally I just notced this issue yesterday. I have the motorola s10 stereo bluetooth headset that I use every morning when I go to the gym. I usually have my ringer on vibrate but I noticed that the ringer was playing through the ear piece and not the speaker. I reset the phone and everything went back to normal but is there a fix for this?

I had the same issue once, but unfortunately I'm not sure what triggered it, I don't use bluetooth ever.
restarting the phone resolved it and I haven't seen it since.
Stupid bluetooth. Oh well. Hope they fix it before they release it in a few years. Haha!

You could always try downloading the galaxy tuner and adjusting the volume through it. You must be rooted though...

I don't use any of the stock ringers anyway, so I just modded the gain of the MP3's I use for ringers before I sent them to the phone. I also use the Voodoo sound app to get the gain up a little on the headphone jack.

I guess we're just more deaf than you are. For fun I listen to death metal for long periods on high volume and shoot shotguns, high powered rifles, etc... My hearing is pretty well screwed.

Every day I work iexpose my self to 100dbs or greater for extended period of time. My personal car reaches 172dbs (173dbs with voodoo sound) (world record is 178dbs). If you haven't figured it out I do mobil electronics. I'm also no stranger to high powered fire arms.
Its not long till I'm fully deaf

I hear ya man (pun intended).... I also played in a machine shop on the weekends when I was a kid which I'm sure didn't help. I have no idea how many dbs my car puts out but I'm sure it's no where near that. Wonder if there's an app for that...
Well, Well, Well... This really is a swiss army phone. Just installed a free DB meter.

I wonder if it actually works? I'll have to run it side by side with a real mic

My mom had this same problem. I found a solution tho. Somehow when she connected her Bluetooth the phone rings through the front speaker instead of the speakerphone speaker so I'm assuming increasing the volume of a ringtone may kill your speaker. Anyway if you disconnect Bluetooth and restart the phone the ringtones worked flawlessly
Mind you she began having the problem after the froyo update but today she said she updater something last night now she has low volume again. Hope this helps somebody
Anyone feels that speaker is too weak and cant hear people's talking in the phone calling? I have to use handfree when doing calls. Just so annoying!

Please download AnEQ equaliser from market. It enable you to boost +15DB of output to your speaker. Used that. Clear sound but touch bass boost will distort the speaker.

Mine is loud enough. Haven't changed anything.

Thanks for introducing the app to me. I really donno if that's hardware problem or not. Or maybe just the phone is too big and I don't get used to it. I used 3.5" monitor mobile before. And now the phone is bigger, when do phone calls, my holding must have to be different. The speakerpohone always cant reach my ear hole. LOL!
Works beautifully. There is another app called "Volume+" which provides more options for Headsets and Bluetooth too. It too works good but "AnEQ equaliser" is bit louder.
Hi

SO..it seems it's a problem with the Note and there's no way to really fix it (I don't mean ways to circumvent it)? Is it due to the long size of the speaker on top?
It sounds like it's due to the Note having a good volume band. If it's bugging you, turn it down. That's not really a work around is it? More of a choice, and which is a good thing I thought?

I really had to check it was not still April 1. I do not see a 'loud' speaker as a problem, as you can simply turn it down. I do not find my note to be too loud. If yoh are using a custom rom tben it might be the rom that is amplifying the sound.

The speaker is not long at all. The grill is, but that makes little difference.
The real problem is that the phone is so damned thin! The ear-speaker happily blasts out of the back too.
What is irritating is that you still get the issue where if the grill is not well positioned against your ear you cannot hear well, even though everyone around you can
Turn!
It!
Down!
'nuff said.
No.. there is NO problem with the Note..
if people around you can hear it then would you not say that is a real obvious clue that you have the volume too loud..? turn it down...or.. get you one of these http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/7830/
problem solved.
