Also High battery drain?? Let's gather some data!! - Galaxy S III General

It may be a good idea to gather some people here on the forum to test something.
The test will gonna be like this:
don't charge the phone @ night and do the folowing.
In the morning after you applied one of these methods make a screenshot of your battery usage stats and the full graph. If we have 2+ diferent values from all the methods we can compare them so we can check what's going wrong with our powerfull devices.
methode 1 :
wifi turned on with "search for open networks" enabled and wifi sleep policy on "always"
Methode 2:
wifi turned on with "search for open networks" enabled and wifi sleep policy on "only when wifi is on"
Methode 3:
wifi turned on with "search for open networks" enabled and wifi sleep policy on "never"
Methode 4:
wifi turned on with "search for open networks" disabled and wifi sleep policy on "always"
Methode 5:
wifi turned on with "search for open networks" disabled and wifi sleep policy on "only when wifi is on"
Methode 6:
wifi turned on with "search for open networks" disabled and wifi sleep policy on "never"
first these methods and afterwards we will check with wifi turned off completely and then check the data plan.
Hope we will get some usable data.
edit:
make a clear post with wich method you used and maybe some info about what you did earlier to kill the battery drain. If you did.

wifi sleep

I have read other post but there is not a solution.
if screen off wifi not work, (work with AC)and I can't receive email or twitter or other... I try many widget from the market but nothing..I have original Rom......It's a wifi bug because if I try with mobile connection it's ok with screen off......Other people have this bug, is it possible that we can't resolve maintaining original Rom? thanks
Its not a bug, check your wifi sleep policy.
Settings > Wireless & networks > Wifi settings > Press Menu > Advanced > Wifi sleep policy.
Make sure you save your changes > Menu > Save.
I already have done this procedure....In wifi advanced I have "never"...then I have saved...the problem there is...
Check if there are OTA updates available. If not then I would perform a full factory reset.
I have done a factory reset
I would suggest getting your DHD exchanged. Something isn't working as it should.
I solved, It was my router ...
I would of never thought it would be your router.
Glad to hear you got to the bottom of it.
I think I have the opposite bug...
I have Wifi sleep policy, "After 15 min" but I tried waiting more than 15min and Wifi doesn't get turn off...

Wifi actually on when turned off? All MMS failing? Ringtone issue in Android system?

Is anyone noticing that the wifi is always turned on, even when it says it's turned off? I ALWAYS keep my wifi turned off and verified this all day in settings. However, I keep getting open wifi network notifications (prompting me to verify that the wifi is turned off) and in my battery settings, wifi shows as turned on all day and used 14% of my battery power. I'm thinking this is a VERY DIRTY trick installed by Verizon to try to offload data on to any wifi networks silently over any open network. I'm also unable to send MMS messages and the APN settings are not adjustable. Verizon tech support didn't have a clue what to do other than wait for my return policy to expire and then exchange the device. If the APN settings are not adjustable, what the hell is a new device going to do? Is anyone noticing the same problem or can validate my problems? (I'm a Verizon retailer who gets discounted dealer line service... 1 exchange within 14 days allowed with a $35 restock fee...) I really like the design, size, and responsiveness of the RAZR M, but I'm starting to think that this device needs to be sent packing in exchange for a dev edition with how bad Verizon molested it. Not really wanting to drop $549 on a phone though...
Under settings -> WiFi do you have "auto connect WiFi" unchecked?

Ya, I went through and unchecked the auto connect setting and all reminder in advanced settings.
Check SmartActions
I'll bet a 6 pack that it's SmartActions causing the wifi battery drain even when wifi is turned off. This happened to me as well. Go into SmartActions in the advanced settings there is an option to use wifi even though it's turned off. You always see wifi left off but the battery shows drain for WiFi and it'll drive you crazy. It's called 'Motorola Location Services. Use data from wifi and mobile networks to determine your approximate location even when wifi is disabled.' Once I unchecked this option, my battery draining wifi usage disappeared.

[Q] Wifi goes off on stand-by

Hello to all I have the following problem: When the phone goes in standby i noticed that after a few minutes the phone disconnects from the internet then resume immediately as soon as I touch the phone and the screen turn on.
I have this problem with both Wifi and with the data connection.
I tried to solve the problem with the wifi option enabled in (Settings -> WiFi -> Advanced -> Wifi sleep policy) setting it to Never. But I notice that practically when i wake up the phone from standby , he is not using the wifi connection , but the data connection, and after a few second he will re-connect to wifi.when I'm not using more wifi, but the data connection.
From what I understand after X minutes in Stand by Android will disable the wifi and uses the data connection, and when i "wake up" the phone by turning the phone screen after a few seconds reconnects with wifi.
It 'really frustrating to have internet to that goes "on and off" especially when i am at work and the signal for the data connection is not present, in this case i can't even receive email or whatapp message when the phone in in stand by
Is there a way to force the phone to always use wifi even when it is in standby mode without the "support" of the data connection?
Hi!
up please
well actually if wifi policy is set to never, it should NEVER turn wifi off when the phone is in stand-by (at least it doesnt turn off on my phone), thats just how it works.. have u tried turning ur data connection off ? does it still disconnect ?

If i disable the data connection, the wifi connection just turn off after x minutes when the phone is in the stand by (even if i set to "Never" the wifi sleep policy) and will turn on after few second when i turn on the display. So what can be the problem?
N.B. I have DISABLED all "power save" option and there IS NOT such app like "battery safe" etc...,i have also tried to reset my phone. But the problem is always the same.

Well, actualiy, the policy says: "Keep Wi-Fi ON durung sleep", so you should set it to "Always".
So, did you fix the problem?

How to find what is keeping wifi running when wifi is turned off

So ever since the 911 update I've noticed that wifi is always running, no matter what. I go to wifi settings and turn wifi off, but in the batter stats it is running the entire time my phone has been discharging.
It may have been happening before the 911 update, but I'm not certain.
Wifi Scanning was turned on. Doh.
Go to location, menu, scanning, uncheck
Root and get AF Firewall - manage the connections via a rooted firewall app.

WiFi won't connect to know Networks when screen is off

As the title suggests, my phone will not connect to known WiFi networks if I do not wake the phone myself.
Image being away from home, having both mobile data and WiFi enabled. The screen is off throughout the whole time and when I reach home it is supposed to connect to my WiFi. Instead, it connects to my WiFi only if I wake the phone. If I leave the phone sleeping (standby) it will stay on mobile data, unless I wake the phone myself.
Is this regular behaviour?
PS. The phone has not problem retaining connection to WiFi networks when sleeping. It just won't make a new connection even to know networks.
There is a setting in wifi settings under advanced where you can change how and when the wifi must be on/off.

If you mean "Keep WiFi on during sleep", I have it enabled already!
Have you played around with power saving settings?
