Ready to upgrade - EVO 4G General

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped me with my million questions. I'm decided whether to get the evo lte or galaxy s3...I might be getting the lte, sense always looked nice and played well, and I never really had to remove my battery...unless a root issue or rom got in a boot loop...so what do u guys think? I might go tomorrow if its the lte

Galaxy S3. Not even a doubt. The LTE sort of looks bland and boring. All thats cool is the sense clock. Big deal.. we have the sense 3.0 on our evos already.. The lte you would be bored of its UI and style after i say 1 month? the Galaxy S3 youls be happy with until your next upgrade. No doubt about that.

I'm leaning towards the sgs3 also. Samsung phones ALWAYS have the most continuous development next to nexus phones

After owning the LTE and reading posts about people that have owned GSII's I am staying with the LTE. I used to stash batteries around, but I have yet to come accross a battery issue and if I do I have a battery back up charger. The LCD 2 screen on LTE is surprisingly better than the Super AMOLED screens also. Sprint has a history of getting more updates out to the HTC phones when compared to the Samsung phones and I think the LTE will have more custom ROMs than the GSIII.

Come join me in a new galaxy <3. Pre-ordered mine the day it went up, first thing in the morning.
I'd say the Galaxy over the LTE; slightly bigger battery, the HD super amoled screens are gorgeous, and the removable battery is a major plus in my book. And like noob said [and proven fact], samsung phone have received great dev love; I mean the epic [which evo fans were known to bash] had ICS before us. A great investment.

For the people having second thoughts about the epic touch 4g

All I got go say is if you have a upgrade coming up soon this is the phone to get. If your worried about the lack of a physical keyboard trust me I feel your pain but after having this phone for about 3days already I can honestly say I don't miss the physical keyboard at all. This phone is so much earlier to root and install customs roms. The speed is incredible and with the right rom and kernel combo you can easily get over 6000 on the benchmarks score. Oh if your short on cash don't worry what ever corporate sprint store you go to they will buy back your old epic for 80.00. If you got an upgrade coming the touch is the way to go. Did I mention front facing video recorder. Well anyway it was indeed a pleasure being apart of this wonderful forum for over a year I hope to see you soon over on the epic touch forums. Take care.

I'm more worried about LTE. My next phone must have it.
My area will probably never have a proper WiMax deployment but LTE is a sure thing and extremely exciting to say the least. I have some cool stuf to bring back soon.

Why would people update only to be stuck on contract for two years with no LTE? Plus the keyboard is still a need for me or a bigger screen the Galaxy Nexus sized screen is looking good for me. You mentioned it was easier to root and install custom ROM on the ET4G how exactly can it be easier than a one click root on froyo or flashing clockwork mod on gingerbread, then flashing a ROM in clockwork?...also with CM7(which is official on our phone now) we get front facing camera video recording also. So I don't really see the need to get an ET4G
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Negatives:
-800x480 screen: So 2 years ago. 1280x720 AMOLED or bust.
-WiMax: They're not expanding to my area, so I'd rather go with the future LTE.
-Quad-Core phones are coming out. Higher performance ceiling at the same battery use, or even less with newer deep sleep modes.
My upgrade isn't until june, so I'll be going Quad-core.
While the ET4G is undoubtedly the best Sprint phone, I don't think it is worth using an upgrade on. The OG Epic is still a very good phone and is only getting better thanks to the great work of our devs. I will be using my upgrade on a quad core LTE 1280x720 monster phone. Probably the GS3.
Wait for an LTE device. Would be the best logical phone choice imo

Yuuuuuuuup; I've decided this as well.
I bought my daughter (15 yrs old spoiled rotten brat, lol I kid) the Touch. sprint had a nice sale + her upgrade which made it a nice xmas gift.
I've played with it some and I do really like the Touch; for me personally, there isn't enough of a hardware change to switch ATM
3 words why not to get the Touch right now:

Yeah, wait for LTE, no need to upgrade yet.
im waiting for a nice solid htc.
im done with plastic samsung crap.
At this point I might as well wait until my contract is up in July and get the next generation of phones, which I hope have an LTE radio.

Galaxy S waiting on Galaxy S III
iPod Touch 3G waiting on iPod Touch 4G (Maybe...)
Playstation 2 waiting on Playstation 4

2WD Car waiting on 6WD Car
...
???
i was thinking about the white epic touch, but wouldn't use an upgrade for it, just the tax refund.
See a lot of people waiting on the GS3 but the 2 isn't that old, how long would it be till 3 comes out? Are there official mumblings of a 3 with specs n such or is this all just assumption?
No 4G in my area and who knows when I'll get it, not sure waiting on LTE is worth it.
*edit* also I wouldn't be using an upgrade if I did get a new one, just pay for it straight up. Store guys hate it when you get a phone without a contract though.

Previous infusers

How many had an infuse and held on to it after getting your note? Kinda attached to my infuse, but some extra cash would be nice 2... who here just couldn't let they're trusty infuse go?
Thanks

Had an Infuse in the past and I never missed it! The Note is the best thing that I have purchased - I mean it has everything and more than the Infuse!
Gave my infuse away after getting note

I still have my banged up Infuse - figured it wouldn't be worth anything. GNote >>>> Infuse.
My only complaint with my Infuse was the GPS (none of the tricks, fixes, or ROMS really helped). The poor GPS performance drove me nuts in the 7 months of ownership...failed backpacking, on my motorcycle and things like finding all the shops my wife dragged me along on weekends.
So, the NOTE's GPS is fantastic! In one day of use (yes, only 1 day)...I'm already getting very fast locks inside my home and even a store I was in..LOVE IT.
The infuse prepared me for the Notes size...and I can definitely feel the extra ounce weight +/- of the Note.
Won't miss my Infuse although I appreciate it was the device that yanked me away from my iPhones!

I can see what you mean but this phone is better than the og evo and it has tons of options as well...I'm with iSaint. The gnex has google support and has pretty decent hardware specs. Besides its omap ... more openess and all newer versions of android are being built on this platform. But the evo has a faster cpu which is said to be faster or as fast as the quadcores. I'm still choosing the gnex and will love every minute of it until next year when I get another early upgrade .
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
really wish there was a version of the gnex with a hw keyboard.. then i'd be gladly forking over my money.. as it is, unless my epic dies unexpectedly, there won't be any motivation to switch phones just yet..
On a side note, I didn't know i was up for a renewal until i looked at the gnex pre-order, apparently I am.. good to know..
I know... I'm going to miss my hw keyboard SEVERLY but... that juicy 4.65 hd display should be sufficient for me =]. Ill get the s4 when that gets rumoured .

I think anyone who doesn't wait for the dust to settle and see what the Galaxy S III will be like may be having blue balls and gambling with their upgrade ;-) I'm sure the Evo LTE will be a fine phone but think about how awesome the GSIII LTE (aka Epic LTE?) could be, and Sprint's version might just have a keyboard too, and be as slim as the newest Droid.
I'm gonna wait until LTE gets deployed in my area, I believe it's slated for the fall so WiMax will do for me until then.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
Going to preorder it now, yes there are going to be more announcements fir different phones but the specs on yue galaxy Nexus are good enough for me plus 2 years of upgrades and tons of development I don't think I will care about other phones
Sent from my SPH-D700
You have until 5/22 to activate with the $50 Google wallet credit, I will definitely wait until 5/3 to see what GSIII will bring to the table.
Well I guess I have until September before my contract is up anyway, but if I were looking to upgrade now I would at least see what Samsung will bring to the next-gen party.
Well apparently my upgrade line was an air card so I will be getting it in a month still I don't care if new stuff comes out a nexus for 2 years sounds amazing
Sent from my SPH-D700
Just got my text message from Sprint this morning regarding this .... I have 1 line already eligible for upgrade , but I'm holding out 'til later this year when "better" phones should be released ( mythical beast with KB / Epic LTE ? )
I'd rather have the gnex and be the first to taste Jelly Bean before anyone else gets updated. Not to mention having a solid development community, as Nexus devices usually do. If I'm to wait for a device I'd be waiting on the next Nexus, forget everything else. Don't care what has the best hardware. I care what's got good enough hardware for me, works, has good software and gauranteed updates, and a good dev community.

What persuaded you to go that route vs. the EVO LTE? I mean, Sense is way toned down with the new 4.0, and seems to not do much but enhance the experience. Just want to point out that I haven't ran a Sense ROM in about 6 months either, but the new version seems nice, and the hardware on the LTE is absolutely sick!
Anyway, I'm asking because I'm in the Nexus vs. EVO LTE vs. GSIII boat right now...

Go check the other evolte threads where scottspa quoted toastch from the twrp thread in the onex forum. HTC has forked up the unlock so badly you cannot flash firmware once unlocked, USB connection is unavailable in recovery mode so you can't flash the boot partition, system partition meaning without and exploit to gain s-off access to the bootloader the htcdev unlock is essentially useless for flashing roms/radios, any kind of p*img.zip, onlyway to flash any kind of upgrades currently is thru an ruu. HTC locking their bootloaders and giving a halfassed unlock method as some kind of joke/tease is why I currently will not purchase another HTC device. I'm not giving my money to a company who claims to support developers by giving them a halfcocked useless tool to unlock what shouldn't be locked in the firstplace. Samsung doesn't lock the bootloader they just implemented a flash count that triggers anytime you flash an unsecured kernel, its easily reset using a USB jig or if you're on ics an app called triangle away by chainfire. Rooting is as simple as running a prerooted firmware thru Odin/heimdall and Samsung is now releasing source prior to the ota and are dropping updates as quickly as they are stable. After I had a Samsung intercept as my first android device Samsung left a bad taste in my mouth and I went to the HTC evo, as if had several HTC winmo phones and liked them. Then I was given an ET4G sprints version of the sgs2 and realized how much of an improvement Samsung has made in the 2 years since I had my intercept. Now HTC goes and forks around with the monkey business of locking the bootloader then giving an unlock method thats about as useful as a broken key to your front door, so now you gotta spend alot of time and effort attempting to break in your own Backdoor with out damaging anything

[Q] Looking for some insight

It is time to replace my phone, the battery doesn't hold power anymore and it randomly shuts off. I'm considering buying another phone but I'm indecisive as to which one. I'm interested in the HTC One S myself but I'm sure there are better ones out there. Which one would you guys recommend?

Are you planning on sticking with HTC?
Details, man.

HTC One is dropping in march. Might as well wait for that.
Sent from my HTC mytouch 4g using xda premium
if you would like to stay with HTC, i'd say go with the new One coming soon.
if you're looking for other options...
i personally would highly suggest either the Galaxy S III or the Note II (considering how big you want your device to be), and being that the Galaxy S IV will be announced soon, i guarantee that the S III's price will drop, making it much cheaper than it is now. the Galaxy S III is a great phone, and just because the S IV is right around the corner, doesn't mean the S III is not a good device. it's specs may not be the best on the market today (stupid U.S carriers and dual core 1.5GHz CPUs...oh well made it up with 2 GB RAM i guess...), it definitely meets and exceeds the average user's needs and wants. i love my S III, and i use the heck out of it.
TL;DR: GET THE S III BECAUSE IT ROCKS!!!
P.S: might wanna wait until a Nexus 4 user comes along and posts his opinions on that device as well though and then choose, as these two devices are the hottest of the market today.
but if you can wait, then wait.

Holding the power button down for ten second resets the device. It works every time on every Nexus 4. My battery lasts all day, everyday. And I don't need extra space and don't use the cloud. I currently have 7 GB of free space.
It fits my needs perfectly.

Lol, boring? Have you even seen the development section over there?
I'm sorry the nexus doesn't have cheesy features like sliding the side of my hand over the screen to take a screenshot? Or were you talking about the unnaturally vibrant and over saturated colors with the screen? Or maybe you like the the overall colorfulness of the TW OS? You like rainbows?

Rainbows are nice. What's your beef with them?
No, I don't like the colorfulness of tw, I don't like tw as much as I don't like stock android. But it has more eye candy and features, so I would go for tw if I had no other choice.
But if I did have a choice, like I'm going to have in a week or so when the HTC One drops, I'm HTC all the way.
Put the nexus 4 and HTC One and see which catches more people's attention. Also when I said boring, I never referred to the development of the device as boring. Every one knows development of nexus line up is always on top. I'm talking more about the physical look and UI.

The phone itself is very nice. It looks beautiful and feels solid. It's also nice that I don't have to officially and irrevocably void my warranty through HTC dev.

All you do is hold down the power button for like 10 seconds and storage isn't an issue if you use your phone as a phone and not an entertainment center

'bout $300 to $350 I'm getting my college financial aid money at the end of the month which is a measly $500
I'm really not too fond of touch wiz (thanks to the behold 2) and the colors in the galaxy look rather odd. I usually put a custom rom anyways, I really like MIUI
I still have my mt4g but, I noticed most all developed custom Roms were in a sense, mirroring the awesomeness of the n4. Its so smooth , ui is awesome and battery life is amazing without rooting and throwing a custom ROM on it.
