[Q] Softkeys' lights as notification lights? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've been seeing around here a few threads related to the softkeys' lights (usually problems) and this idea came to me today:
Could we use these lights as notification lights?
I believe there are individual lights for each softkey and they might be individually controllable since I've seen there are problems related to only one of the lights. A KITT like effect is what first comes to my mind.
I also know that some kernel modifications might be needed in order for this to work, so... our little Defy might stand against us again.
Have a nice day!

changing LED notification?

Is there some registryhack or anything else, to change the color or frequenz of the LEDs?
e.g. I would like to have a red notification instead of the damned amber one (which looks hardly like the green one, in some situations)
I also would prefer a higher blink rate when notificated and a lesser one, for normal status.
I hate blinklights just for annoying net connect or bt connect "notification".
please, doese someone knows some way?
You can change ANY notification in the Sounds and notifications settings, or through a program such as PocketZenPhone.
Search the forums and you will find what you need!!
Re the lights themselves, you won't be able to change them without changing the diode itself. Though perhaps there's a setting that changes which one (ie green or amber) is used for different styles of notification. Given the options between those two, however, I don't see why you'd want to change them.
Ant
sure you can say: notificate me via light/sound/vibra - but it is the color I want to change (standart green. amber, red are ok, if I just could choose them as I like)
i want to change the "organge/amber" notification, cuz I find it hard to see the differenz between the green one, especially in daylight.
if there would be some setting to change the standart notification to red, this would be pretty pretty usefull.
even the frequenzy would help me, to realize faster whats going on.
AND I didn't found a way to cancel blinking e.g. for BT on oder Netconnect.
in night, it is a pain in the neck, and I do have to find something i can cover the lights with, if I just want a dark night .
there muste be a possible of changing it, it is just a damned OS and so its a software thing.
Someone like Buzz is probably better than most to advise re changing which LED is used and the frequency of blinking.
There is an app that allows you to turn off LEDs during the night. I used to have it on my PC but never installed it on the phone cos I turn my phone off at night. The posts linking to it were on X-D so a quick search should find it.
Cheers

maybe buzz knows some way?
I hate resurrecting old threads, but has anyone yet discovered where the LED blink rate is controlled? Is it something that can be modified? It simply blinks too much, in my opinion.
Thanks in advance.

flashing lights

Hi
I use my trinity as an alarm clock (as well as the 101 othering things including a phone!)
problem is the flashing lights annoy the hell out of me at night and i have to hide the phone under something to stop the green light acting like a beacon for every one wanting to pass on the right.
the hack turns off the lights but also the vibrate, which I use when in meetings.
Has anyone got or seen a simple tool to turn on or off the lights as required.
thanks in advance.
I lay my phone upside down on my bedside table then you don't see the lights!
Go kill the AllLEDMgr driver in the registry.
All LED will be gone - including normal notification LEDs like missed call or BT
You can couple it with say Mortscript to make a good toggle, only if you don't mind the reboot required.
hacking the reg
Disable flashing service LEDs
[HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\AllLEDMgr]"Index"=0
Note! Disables vibrating. As i said the hack stops the vibrate from working and I don't realy want to reboot after modifying the reg.

This is also my method
But I agred with you, it's f***ing annoying that beacons
disabling the vibro don't surprise me at all - circuit wise a vibrator is just like an led so its natural to have turf up with it in the driver.
that said I heard vj was developing a led manipulation tool for the hermes. tyou may want to do a search yourself.

TP2-Keyboard Light & LED

Hi,
I have 2 issues with the TP2...
a) Keyboard Light - can it be set to a different value? Seems it is set to around 10 sec - tried Advanced Config..but that doesnt seem to work..also cudn't find anything in the Registry yet.
b) LED - the LED only seems to work during charging(Red/Green solid) = any program/Registry hack to use the LED for other Options (eg "new Mail" = Red blinking)?
Hope someone has the same issues and found a solution already
Thanks!
Regarding the notification light, you should RTFM. You don't need a hack. By default the notification light will blink green for missed calls, new SMS, and new emails. It'll blink amber for low battery warning.
Yea I would like the keyboard to stay lit longer as well. For the LED notifications make sure you select the "flash light for" in the sounds & notifications settings.
But it will not blink when there is missed call or sms when you are charging the phone though.
I don't have that problem with my previous X1.
LED & Keyboard Light
Hi Guys,
thanks a lot - stupid oversight of mine in reg to the LED
However still looking for the Keyboard Light..I used Advanced Config and set it to 30 sec..but that doesn't seem to work.
Also looked into the Registry but cudn't find anything related there as well.....
Cheers!
What are the reg entries for the LED lights? I would like diff colors as well
yes me too. please post your solution
I doubt the registry will give you different colour apart from the green, amber & red. It's a hardware thing.

I guess its too bad then that the manual doesnt say this functionality is BROKEN.
i had to turn it off as it would continue to blink even after I cleared the notifications.

I've searched and searched for a tweak or mod for that - I would MUCH prefer it blink for alerts / notifications, even when connected. Mine usually sits in the cradle when at home. If the LED blinked for missed calls / messages while in the cradle, I could see that at a glance from across the room, rather than going to it and looking at the screen.
Is there a tweak or mod to force the LED to blink, regardless of connection state? I don't care what color.
Thanks, Folks!

guys google nueLed that might work its an old program that controls the Led in many ways
I've seen references to nueLED, but also read of several issues with it on the newer devices (TP2s in particular.) I'll do some searching later today and see if I can come up with a later version and/or higher confidence level that it won't give me problems.
Thanks for the suggestion! Anybody else?
Well, I managed to do a bit of research about NueLED today. I keep finding too many comments in various threads on various forums that mention problems, particularly on TP2s and even more particularly with WM6.5. Perhaps most are overblown - I honestly don't know. But it's enough to give me pause. Above all else, I need to keep Touchie as stable as he is currently. That said...
Can anybody confirm that NueLED works reliably on the T7373 w/ WM6.5 (official HTC SEA ROM update) with no instability or quirks?
Beyond that, can somebody confirm that NueLED provides an option for the notification LED to blink even when connected to power? That is really my only interest. I'm fine with the current setup & colors, but would like the LED to blink for an alert when the device is in the cradle.
Thanks, as always, for the help and suggestions!

Capacitive buttons / trackball light control?

So the one thing that is annoying me a lot about my Nexus One is the backlight on the 4 capacitive buttons and the trackball flashing at night when it sites on my nightstand. I guess I could also add the charge light to this case as well. But that is less bothersome at the moment.
Does anyone have anymore information on whether the light for the trackball, capacitive buttons, and charge light can be disabled?
The only bits of information I can find searching is that the phone needs to be rooted to do this. That is great. What would be the next step? Is there a /proc listing for the trackball, capacitive buttons light, charge light that might take input to disable them?
Would love to hear if anyone has more information on this subject as i can't seem to find much info.
I have the same problem because I either have mine on the bed with me or on the night stand and that damn track ball light is bright when its pitch black, and I can't even tell you how many times I've bumped those damn capacitive buttons while typing or just in an app.
I hope the guys building custom roms will add toggles, or some developer will make toggles for rooted phones that would be very awesome and appreciated, I don't think just by me either.
I've never seen mine flash while charging, maybe if you have an alert, but you can clear those before you plop your phone down for the night.
the only light i have on when charging is the little orange light....
I'm guessing, that you need to answer a message or email or something.
You can use LEDs Hack, from the Market, to disable them; you can even configure it to automatically disable them when you plug in your phone, and re-enable them when you un-plug. It's free, from the developer who created Bedside, the (IMHO) best night clock app. (If you like LEDs Hack, you might try Bedside for a mere $1.50 -- a pittance, really.)
My impression is that if you have the built in clock application running before you turn your phone off, trackball and buttons light won't turn on even if you have an alert. I might be wrong though...

LEDs Hack looks EXACTLY what I am looking for. Thank you for this tip (doesn't show up in my searches. But found on androlib.com).
IMHO, this functionality SHOULD be native in the phone.
I wonder if this program also covers the trackball light flashing?
Yes, I know the flashing is because I have a message waiting. But the point is, I don't want to be woken up in the middle of the night because of a flashing light just for a silly email or text message!

LED notification light not working

A day or 2 ago, my notification light has stopped working on my Samsung Galaxy s8
I tried restarting the phone and turning the LED indicator option in settings on and off. It doesn't seem to help or fix it.
I wonder if i should return the phone since its still in warranty and get a replacement because charging the phone works but LED doesn't show it's charging like that red dot on top of the phone.
Could somebody help please.
Thank you, Kenny

Hi there, easy to diagnose.
Go to the phone dialer and dial this: #*0*#
A debug menu will appear, click the LED button (middle right).
It should light up the LED, click the screen to cycle between colors.
If this works correctly, then the issue is software/misuse/app conflict/whatever.
If it does not work correctly, then your LED needs servicing/repair.

There is a long discussion on this subforum about the LED issue, did you use any LED control applications?
Seems like something is killing the LEDs.
Just for future reference.

Hey ye i have had a look at the discussion in this sub forum and no i wasn't any sort of LED applications.
So i guess its my bad luck on getting a partial faulty device :/
Id assume its a hardware peoblem since they said reflashing the older firmware didn't work.
Thank you
(This was double posted from the main LED thread, don't know how to delete it, but it may help anyway)
To contribute to the discussion:
- there are some apps that only work in certain colors. For instance, Whatsapp is working with blue, but no other colors. I may have seen it blink once for another color, then never more.
- all apps using blue are working
- I have an app that is originally set to blink LIGHT blue and it is doing so.
- Telegram manages to blink pinkish
- charging is Red
- Fully charged is green (but again, green is not working on Whatsapp).
Looks like a software thing.
