Back light notification - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Coming from the i9000 we had back light notification on literally almost all kernels.. is there no capable feature for the note? Its a really useful feature as you just have to look at the lights to know you have a notification
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA

Well we don't have a notification light. There is a thing called BLN but the kernel must support it. I don't know of any ICS kernel that supports it currently. Not sure about speedmod and franco's.

Ahem.. the notification light is in the menu and back button.. i dont see why they cant program it hmmm

It works on some Gingerbread kernels. But, from what I know, when you add BLN support (which is what you talking about), you lose performance or other tweaks you can make. So a lot of devs just don't want to bother with it. That, and it can be a huge battery drain.

It holds a wakelock when notifications are active, and also frequently misbehaves. On I777 it would often cause the touchkey backlights to fully disable until you toggled the screen off/on.
One developer attempted BLN without wakelocks, but later testing showed that in that case, standby drain went way up even when notifications were not active.
A simpler summary is - no developer on the Note likes the feature enough to bother with it so far, especially given how easy it is for it to cause problems.

The Fascinate Wish List

Hey everyone.
I just wanted to ask you all a question...
What is it that you wish you could have on your Fascinate?
I want you guys to list ANYTHING (aside from the obscenely ridiculous*) that you wish you could have on your phones. That includes, but is not limited to:
apps
games
lockscreens
whole roms
kernels
radios
button remappings
widgets
skins
accessories
audio/video alterations
(I will build the list as suggestions are made )
If you see someone's wish and you know of something that fits the description, POST IT! (Bonus points for links)
DEVS: I figured this could also give you guys some cool ideas all in one organized thread.
I'll also post really awesome ideas as they are created below for easy viewing.
Netflix support
Better antenna
Utilization of the camera LED in low power mode as a notification light
a how-to on better battery life
Personal ROM editor
Better gps
Full CM7
Full MIUI
Functioning TV out
More stable source code from Samsung
Virtual networks
*Having your phone turn into a lightsaber is an example of the obscenely ridiculous and most likely will not happen no matter how much you wish it.
My GPS to actually work, along with CM7 and/or MIUI (that actually support the phone's hardware).
There should be an option between 'needs a bit more' and 'hate'... such as 'I'm still not buying Samsung again'.
Functioning TV out, which from what I understand, is actually incorporated into the device pinout, but is still disabled. Some here at XDA are working on it though

+1 My GPS is good, but I definitely wish for full MIUI or CM7, that would be sweet. I also wish for better/fast updates/support from Verizon and Samsung. FAT chance.
Samsung to release properly written sources, which may lead to better functioning CM7 and MIUI. And TV-out.

I think several of you missed where he said "aside from the obscenely ridiculous"
A virtual network. What I mean by this is.
1 For the phone to act like a wireless router and let other devices connect to it.
2 let the phone itself to be on the said network. As if your attached to it via wifi (even though the virtual router would be phone based)
What this could be used for
1 control of wireless devices that use lan, with lan apps without the need of a router (ex. Pc remotes, printers, scanners)
2 ability to stream video and audio to devices like the xbox wirelessly (provided you have a wifi xbox) from your phones storage with apps like Imediashare, which atm only works over a network. So if all you have is a xbox and phone you can't watch movies..
There are lots of apps that work like this
PHONE ~~> ROUTER ~~> DEVICE
would be great if they could work like this
PHONE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~> DEVICE

I would like a app that can change the colors and icons in the dropbar and shutdown menus, customize the frame work, etc. The devs put alot of work into their roms and themes and is greatly appreciated but there always seems to be one little detail or color or icon that just doesn't fit the individuals preference.

I say fully working CM 6.2.0
CM7 is too far off, and won't ever be fully functional, save some unlikely breakthroughs or newer sources or ROMs from samsung.
CM 6.2 could be fully functional much more quickly (if not already) if development work wasn't done on CM7 instead.
Id like to see an app that can change the colors of a theme or the system with one or two clicks and all done with phone booted up.
Granted I love all the themes for our phone but one day I feel like purple, another day could be orange...so on so forth lol..

Anyone with SyndicateROM Frozen 1.3 suggestions

Please leave your feedback in this thread! We would love to hear from you and hear what you would like to see in srf 1.3! Whether it be bug fixes, or cool features or anything! Please leave us some feedback.

Include NoMoarPowah app, or add the functionalities of the app to the rom?
I would like to see the voicemail issue (for some) addressed and SetCPU supported. I prefer that over Voltage Control, with the widget and profiles
It should come preloaded with the ACS Updater and should include the free sprint hotspot hack!

That you all release Standard and Fully Loaded at the same time. (I'm a standard user now after getting tired of waiting for Fully loaded, ha ha. I grew impatient.)
Add wifi when in airplane mode
Integrate the ACS Updater
Fix the lock screens
Provide a kernel in this package
Add the hotspot hack
Add the Amazon App Store to the user apps
Remove the News and Forecast app, and put it in the Sprint apps.zip
Update the first post template to be current before you post the release thread! It's been copy/pasta since v1.0 and has outdated information. (related to CWM compatibility, SNS being in standard now, etc.)
heres another one. Replace the default Music Player with the MIUI one! its way better IMO!
& +1 on the MIUI font!
I'm voting to keep the pure black pull down - I think it looks really slick and I like it better

Hi,
I flashed this ROM, and then the "Samurai Kernel 1.3". In general, things are working very well. I however did notice that when making telephone calls while I'm using headphones, only the right channel has audio. The left does not. I don't have a chance to reflash to see if the "Samurai Kernel" is at fault yet..... I remember seeing (or maybe hearing???) this bug a long time ago on CM7 with an older version of Voodoo Sound, but this kernel doesn't have Voodoo sound.... I'm wondering if any other people have seen this issue, or if anyone can tell me that it is the Samurai Kernel 1.3 that is at fault.

Well the "issue" is how headsets are designed. You have your "normal" headsets used for listening to music and have two bands and your hands-free headsets w/mic which have three bands, but the issue that arises are the single ear pieces w/mic which have two bands like "normal" headsets. Since the "normal" headset jack and the single ear piece w/mic jack are designed identically (as far as I can tell) there's no way for the phone to differentiate between them so your phone sees your "normal" headset as a single ear piece w/mic while in a call. Thus audio only out one ear piece while your phone thinks the other is the mic. Course I'm no expert on the matter. This is just a conclusion I've come up with based of what I've seen/read (which honestly isn't much) so I could be way off.

Nothing listed should result in the improvement I'm seeing, but I formated my SD card at the same time, but A5 is rocking for me right now.

I don't see much of a performance improvement (I don't think there should be one, either), though if you do wipes anyway you're going to avoid a lot of slowdowns.
Shame about the new boot animation, though. I kinda dug the colorfulness of the last one. This is a little too bluish, wooshy, scifi looking, like a wonky portal effect from 10 years ago. Reminds me of the unfortunate tastes that gave the mod community a few too many Matrix themes.

Thank you!
This is by far the best rom for the phone I've used. Thank you for the dedication Cyanogen mod team!

You can change the boot animation back to the old one if you want to. The new alpha-5 boot animation caused me to have a seizure so I found the bootanimation.zip file and replaced the new one with the old one lol
Just get the bootanimation.zip file from one of the previous versions of CM9 (/system/media) and replace.

Yes, it's always been smooth but this install seems even smoother. I know each phone can be finicky with roms, but my phone seems wet for alpha 5 lol.

Is the audio bug still present? The one that requires the screen selection sounds to be turned off in order to minimize the AudioOut_1 wakelock? Haven't seen it mentioned since the early alpha builds.

It's crazy what these guys have done.. I don't know if I could even replace my Epic 4G with anything that's out right now.. We have the only qwerty device on Android 4 on the planet.. ICS, Wimax, and an Overclocked hummingbird makes this phone arguably better than the Droid 4..
I don't know if it's just happening to me, but my phone's time is all over the place. The lock screen stays perfect, but the status bar one stays stuck & I have a widget that lags even longer!

Alpha 1 felt slow and chunky to me, with the exception being the browser. May give a5 a shot since the ram settings got tweaked in a4.
If the app switcher still takes >2sec to open it will be a no go.
