[SOLVED] SGS3 secret codes for HSDPA/3G switch known? - Galaxy S III General

Hi all,
before I bought my SGS3, I owned a SGS1.
For the SGS1 there was a secret code which allowed me to switch off any HSDPA / HSUPA traffic but limit the data to pure 3G UMTS.
This saved me a lot of battery, so I always used it.
Ref: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837716
The code was: *#301279#
Unfortunately this code stopped working already with the SGS2, so it does also not work for the SGS3.
Does anybody know some secret codes, might be the one I am looking for is contained?
Many thanks
Andi

Asking for assistance w/Touch/Elf wifi Registry settings

Hello all,
From my research it has been suggested that I could enable the wifi functionality on my Sprint Touch 6900 by modifying the Registry settings.
The wifi is enabled on European models but is disabled on this American model.
I found a nice Registry editor here, and looked around in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE but couldn't find the wifi.
I'm asking if anyone knows their way around the Registry could they please post the proper settings?
The icing on the cake would be if I could get the wifi button to display in the Comm Manager just like the European models. I'm also wondering if I flashed the device with a new ROM would that do the trick?
Any help or Good Orderly Direction would be greatly appreciated and Thank You for your patience.
op
Ok I've made some progress on this front for the benefit of other folks who might be experiencing the same difficulty that I am.
Here's a link to MSDN for WiFi Drivers and Registry Settings for WM6.
HTC Tech support claims that wifi is enabled on the GSM phones but the CDMA phones were experiencing difficulty connecting which is why the wifi functionality was left out.
I asked if I could get ahold of the wifi driver for the Touch and they were less than forthcoming.
The driver is a single dll and if anyone could post a link to download one, that would be amazingly appreciated.
Ok even more progress, I'm quoting another poster on another forum:

I called HTC today and they told me that the Wi-Fi hardware is physically missing on all of the CDMA-based Touch models, so don't get your hopes up with the registry hack. What sucks is that even if the new Spectec microSD Wi-Fi card cooperates with the Touch, you still have to chose (or swap) between memory and Wi-Fi since you can't have both at the same time.
Apparently, the CDMA carriers just want to promote their own data plans and not sell fully-featured phones. This makes some sense if you believe the theory that the best feature-laden phones are all GSM because there's a push to eliminate CDMA, thus the CDMA carriers have to peddle their data plans at large discounts to keep customers. $15/month for EV-DO is pretty darn cheap compared to AT&T's ridiculous data plans...
Yes, yes, I know, many will say "why bother with Wi-Fi since EV-DO is faster?" BUT the internet isn't the only network worth connecting to out there. Plus, there are probably many places where EV-DO coverage is lacking so Wi-Fi is a good thing...
They also said that the GPS is just the E911 type - no ROM update can make it any more capable than it currently is. Oh well...

BALLS!
I have been looking for wifi registry in my xda stealth for over one year and found that the registry settings for Wifi differ between different pocket pcs ....After a previous upgrade. the wifi button disappeared from the wireless manager and going to HKLM/system/state/hardware/wifi showed many things....when I followed the above link when the wifi key disappeared, it showed DWRD/DEC value 0 AND by changing this to 1 the key returned but was not working....after another rom upgrade the value had changed to 5 but the wifi was not working...changing this value to different numbers showed different wifi states like unavailable/connecting/ connected etc although wifi utility will tell wifi off!!!!

Connectivity in France

Hi,
I'm quite new in here, so I hope I'm not double threading this question from another forum. If yes, sorry for that
my questions are:
have you used the Nexus One in France ?
Which operator do you have ?
What 3G parameters do you have ?
Do you have a full 3G connectivity ?
... my problem is, I'm with BouyguesTelecom and only connecting to the EDGE for data. I've been quite a while on the phone with the technical helpdesk (level 2 - multimedia section) and we couldn't find how to get a proper connection.
See my answer here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5672438#post5672438
And don't forget to check if you have the 2G only button checked or not...
got your answer.
seems to be working fine for me now even though nothing changed since last time ...
thanks for the help !

Possible fix for data stalling issues some of us are having.

Right, a little back story.
I brought my SGS2 at the start of May in the UK on O2 so I have an early model which came with the firmware before KE1. I rooted in the first week and was flashing Villainrom 1.0 before too long with no data problems.
I think it was around KE2 with Lite'ning rom that I first saw my phone constantly switching between H & 3G and stalling when receiving or sending data. This behaviour has continued through all the firmwares I've tried with many different modems. I moved onto to Cognition when it was v1.01 and have been using it all the way unto 1.2 with the KG3 modem. Again still with data connecting problems.
Things I have tried -
Turning off fast dormacy
Editing the build.prop http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097612&highlight=build.prop pages 1-5
Switching off HSDPA/HSUPA via the *#301279# command
Disabling juice defender
Switching to WCDMA only
Changing modems
Full hard reset and reflasing of roms
Even with the above on multiple roms and rom versions my data connection was unreliable at best and killing spree warranting at its worst.
Possible fix-
What i found lurking on XDA on a slow day at work was the command below
*#2263#
This allows you to select which bands your phone uses. I selected option 2 then tested the 4 available bands. They all resulted in a complete loss of reception except WCDMA 2100. this is probably network specific you'll need to try it yourselves.
The results and current settings
Now when I try to use my data connection the phone no longer switches between H & 3G. It will start on 3G then find H and stay there, I see a slight delay if its been in deep sleep or JD has cut the connect but this is normal for the phone to start on 3G to save power.
Fast dormacy - off
build.prop -stock/unedited (I found this worked for me for a while but since 2.3.4 it didnt seem to help)
HSDPA/HSUPA via the *#301279# command - both on
Juice defender - on
WCDMA only selected as when picking a band it doesn't seem to like having a GSM band selected as well (happy to be corrected on that)
Modem KG3 -
Rom cog 1.2 - I'm patiently waiting 1.4 based on KG6 to test my findings.
Conclusion-
Okay it could be that selecting a band does F'all and that I'm seeing better results for a completely different reason. I'm not a developer so my fixing skills amount to playing with stuff I don't fully understand and seeing how more or less broke I've made it.
After thought -
Ive seen on the sensation forum they have discussed the wrong IMEI code being the cause of poor data speeds so I may look into that next.
Please share your experiences and anything else you've tried.

That should be no connection as IMEI belongs to phone and handshakes with network first .
KG6 modem some report as better .

I will have to give this a try and see how it works, thanks for the share.
I am in the same boat, it is VERY frustrating to say the least. A typical scenario for me is: reading a web page on my S2 for a good few minutes (3g has gone to sleep mode by the time I have finished reading), I click on a link, 3g flashes, H comes up and flashes once.....wait.....wait.......wait......10 seconds later it decides to initiate a connection and take me where I want to go! It does the same thing with the XDA app. I have been onto O2 about this a couple of weeks ago, all they did was give me the settings over the phone (which were the exact same ones I already had) and they also sent me a replacement sim card, suffice to say, there is no change. Now I am convinced its a network problem of some sort, I have a three sim card which I have been trying out and the above problems do not exist anymore when using three, I click a link after 3g has gone to sleep and it goes from 3g to H and initialises the data transfer in one smooth motion. It looks like I'll be getting my PAC code and moving to Three!
would be interested to hear if switching to the 2100 band helps at all seeing as your on O2 as well
Mine is O2 via Giffgaff and no problems at all .
Tested KG6 modem Wi|Fi only and it is a stronger signal .
jje
Yeah, forgot to mention that, I have just enabled it. I can't test at the moment though coz there is no 3G coverage where I am. The only problem with enabling it is you will not be able to connect to GPRS or Edge if you need to. But it is worth testing regardless.
Just been out and about and tried that setting, didn't make much difference unfortunately
Maybe it was a combination of tweaks on my end. What rom & modem are you using?

Villain 2.3 with KG3 modem. The problem has been the same whatever ROM I have used, I even flashed back to O2 stock a couple of weeks ago to see if it was a ROM problem, but that was the same. I can't remember what it was like when I first got the handset though, mine was the first batch as well.

The wife is on Giffgaff so I think I'll give that sim a try before I get my PAC off O2.

hi
i am just testing now this fix. i have an o2 phone and i did the same changes you did, disable fast dormancy, changed build.prop settings, will let you know after going a few times underground ;-)
gabrio
confirm, this is working, even when i go underground or when the signal goes away, it gets back to H/H+ and works, gabrio
Give it a little while, I think you'll be back saying it didn't work
Personally, I went ahead with my threat and moved over to 3uk, never looked back since with this problem, been perfect!
I've tried it all. Disabled fast dormancy, hspa, toyed with band selection, edited build.prop (btw, don't bother with it, the network settings you find on the web to type in don't work on the s2) you name it - but it would still cut out. Luckily, my phone is unlocked so I switched my provider and now it works like a charm with all the bells and whistles enabled. I can ride the tram all across warsaw and maybe have a handful of 2-3 second hiccups when I'm listening to online radio. Curiously enough, on my previous provider I've noted that there are some areas (like a busy mall - Arkadia) where it would not stall as well as a few other places, and most other areas that were notorious with data hanging. I'm convinced now that it is an issue on the telco side (*cough*Orange*cough*), and too bad because I was on a prepaid plan with them that for roughly $30 I had 7GB of transfer. I guess they figured they can promise the world on their trash network, because nobody would actually use it up. YMMV.
Had this issue with a UK GS2 purchased from Negri using it on AT&T.
Since upgrading to the latest UK firmware with 2.3.4 I have not had the issue going on about 2 weeks now!
Man was that issue annoying. Had to restart the phone sometimes to get data back.
Joe
Ok I did that too though how abt lag? Phone lags a bit opening large sms conversations and browsing home screens.. But peace. Yours too?

[Q] Samsung Focus - HOW to get a BETTER 3g connection?

Guys,
I have a Samsung Focus for a quite long time. There is an issue that is ANNOYING, that problem that obligate us to restart the phone to reconnect to 3G connection. I had this issue in the past, until the NoDo Update was released!
After NoDo, ISSUE SOLVED! Internet connection outside Wifi perfect, and it managed perfectly. BBBUT
Now mango is launched! WTF! The problem is here again! After mango, the 3G connection is wooooooooorrse! Who else feel the same situation? Anyone that felt, could solve it somehow? It seems that drivers are not updated, I don't know. Please, don't say that it may be my Carrier! IT IS NOT! =)
ps: I have already entered in Diagnosis tool, and did the adjusts you suggested, but nothing changed.
Guys, sharing an article: http://wp7lab.com/news/data-leak-mango/
Yes , unfortunately 3g/3G+ is slow when compared to a decent smartphone, at least in Europe.
I have tested more than 3 WP7 devices, they are slow.
Focus is the slowest in Europe since the it is from US/Canada markets. Flashing an Omnia7 radio helps improving the speed by some 20-30 percents.
The secret lies within the RoM , there are several xml files responsible for data handling. ATT/Rogers CSC files don't configure the device to European protocols.
Theoretically, one could build a Frankenstein ROM from an OMNIA7 device by using the edited csc file and adding Focus drivers to it.
I am working @ this right now...
I'm in the U.S., and I'm having the same issues. Several times a day I web browse and I get the connection error message. Did the original diagnostic settings, as well.

this is pretty useful guys
Thanks for reminding me!!! I forgot to reinstate that mod after updating to Mango. Awesome!!!
My phone is unlocked from Att but I'm in Jamaica. I love this phone but the 3g is giving me hell to selling point where I am considering selling the device. Is there any help out there for this problem?
Try this: settings/applications/radio
set it to World (instead of North America)

I love you man 3g works without a hitch now, and I can even download apps. Once I could only do that over my home WiFi. Thanks a million brother!!!

How can we flash an edited CSC file? This is what I have been trying to figure out for a week now. If I edit one and send you the files can you sign it?

[Q] Loosing data connection hard

Hi all, this is my first post or thread, i came here cause i heard from ppl this is best site for asking questions about cell phones, i started reading allot this forum and wow did i enter the other world i really like and wanna participate in.
Srry for little intro and lets get back to topic. So i got my first "normal" android and got trouble with it. I am using Samsung galaxy s5 g900F (european) factory unlocked and T-mobile as carrier with 4.4.2 kitkat. I have a big problem with a data connection that keeps going off every 30sec to 5 min if i use option to search and auttoconnect on LTE/WCDMA/GSM option. I read forum but no1 is mentioning this model as problematic 1 so now i post thread about.
Does any1 know what could be problem and how to solve it. Sometimes my data connection comes back and sometimes it doesnt and i have to switch type of network to get back again online. All other options that don't include LTE auttoconnect work just fine, i tried to get another SIM from carrier but same problem, i tried to get another Phone since i work in hardware firm and still same problem on another device, both were same models.
I still didn't put any ROMs but i really consider doing it maybe l8r on, it is stock version.
Pls be genttle since this is first time i post, maybe i did it on wrong place but i did read rules and everything and i think i did it on right place.
Ty in advance.
I did have a slightly similar problem years ago - when in roaming my phone could not connect to anything. What helped was a change of simcard for a new model - after that all was good.
Since you did try your SIM on a different phone (same 900F?) I would advise you to try: first on a completely different brand and phone model - if you can.
If this does not solve your problem do shake your service provider a bit - they could have supplied you with two faulty SIM cards in a row - that can happen. Otherwise - maybe there is a stupid limitation in your service plan which is causing this. There is no - to my knowledge - ready answer to the problem you have described.
Best of luck and if you do solve it come back and post - it will be very useful to lots of people for sure
Cheers!
Too many variables. You haven't observed enough of a pattern yet or tried enough things to narrow it down a bit. It could just as easily be carrier side issues as a bug in the firmware not negotiating a new connection if the LTE signal is lost.
A number of people were having data disconnect issues and that was addressed in the 4.4.3 /4.4.4 update. So that is one option to consider. And you could open a support ticket with your carrier. That is hit and miss as to results, but sometimes tickets actually resolve issues.
There are also a number of apps that may mitigate or possibly even solve your issue. Have a look at 4G LTE Switch and LTE Discovery.
.
Will try it today. Thanks for the help. Really appreciate it.
