Urdu language for my acer iconiatab a 500. - Acer Iconia A500

I want to install URDU language pack but couldn't find anywhere. It is not listed in the language option of my tab. I couldn't find on google search also. Help will be highly appreciated.

Probably because nobody has an answer.
Honestly, I have never see the Urdu language in any HC based rom, so I doubt with the current limited offering of ICS builds, I doubt you will see it in ICS either.
Your only hope would be to do the translations yourself. It's possibly similar to porting a Gingerbread rom to another language. Or perhaps ICS would be easier.

Thanks MD for your reply. I am having Galaxy S2 with gingerbread but is having URDU language BUT I am surprised how my acer tab with ICS is not having Urdu. I can read and write Urdu by keyboards having Urdu, like go keyboard but the fonts I don't like. I wanted to install some good Urdu fonts.
I am indeed thankful once again.

So if I understand, you are just looking for keyboard support for Urdu? If I'm not mistaken, keyboard support in ICS is in separate packages, so it would maybe be possible to change fonts in a keyboard package.
Just a thought. Might give me something to look into while I wait for some new ICS builds from Acer.

Thanks once again MD for your concern. That's correct. I want to install some urdu fonts. Right now I have rooted my device but with original stock ICS rom. I am too afraid to install any other ROM. The more I search and read about installing other ROMs, the more I get confused. Linux and for that matter android has been made so confusing that it has been made for geeks only. It should have been more easier than windows but OMG it is more annoying to me. 1000nds of roms, clockwork mod, rooting, cm7, cm9, flashing and 1000 more terms used. At the end I am totally confused...

Well, messing around with custom roms, bootloaders, and CWM Recoveries is not for most people. And it's a wise choice to read up on things, and fully understand what can happen, before ever going in that direction.
A pity a lot of people don't read.....
Actually, a lot of it is not so difficult once you do it a couple of times. 75% of all devices use pretty much the same steps once you get past the rooting process.
As for 1000's of roms, basically you have only the choices for your a500 device here in the a500 forum. NEVER try to install a rom that is not specifically for your device.
Right now, there are only 4 or 5 custom ICS Roms for the 500, and they all come from the same Acer build. So not a lot of choices yet. Generally, when Acer releases code, they will be different regions with different language support. For now, none of the extra ones are available yet.

3.1 or 3.2 roms for A501?

As a special forum for the A501 is still missing, I am asking here:
Is there any custom rom with HC 3.1 or 3.2 that also supports the 3G modem in the A501?
Acer is making fools out of us not providing an update to 3.1. That's ridiculous and unacceptable... I am so angry, you won't believe it.
there is no ROM for A501 here... sorry
I wonder how people get A501, in thailand it's not available.... yet...
Well, in Germany it is already available - even in smaller stores but also in the big ones, like Amazon.
I see
We will have it normally next week here... but anyway. I don't want get bored with 2 sim cards and 2 bills

Nothing as yet. Why don't you try PMing one of the ROM makes in the Dev section and asking them nicely?
They'll need a dump of an A501 ROM to do much, though.
Thanks for your nice idea.
I will try to contact them.
Definetely +1 for a 3.1 or 3.2 rom for A501. Moreover, I'm here to help by providing anything I can from my A501. Plus, I tried several roms on my HTC Desire, so I hope I can be helpful in something (unfortunately I never cooked a rom).

I am not responsible for any damage what-so-ever done to your phone, as with any ROM, you accept this risk.

First of all you need to upgrade to official 2.3.5 release from Huawei.
Get the official upgrade from here and follow the installation instructions inside the zip.
Afterwards follow this nice guide on how to root and install CWM recovery on your phone. (thanks to That-Guy)
Recommended recovery is this (thanks to Blefish)
If you came from another rom wipe Data/Cache/DavlikVM.
If you are upgrading wipe Cache/DavlikVM.
Apply the zip package as usual through CWM!
Njoy!

Tweaked a bit cpu voltages according to the old vdd levels franco used. Should get a bit more of battery life in frequencies under 1024 and more stability over it.
Added a couple of new governors to have fun to (lagfree, lazy, interactivex, minmax, scary, smoothass).
Fixed native wifi tethering.
In call volume/quality is better but there is still some noise in low volume.

Fixed torch and superuser issue.
You'll have to use MoreLocale 2 to switch to another language now. Old framework was causing me issues so will stick to the unmodified one.
Some really nice transitions added!
Using desire-z framework instead of miui-au should now be more stable and with better battery life.
Removed extended settings mod / app drawer. Check the miui android forums if you want to install them by your own from now on. Only mod i will continue implement is the t9 dialer mod.
Maxthon as default browser.
u8800 changelog
Initial release with the new kernel branch 2.6.35.
Can now mount both internal and external sdcard with no problems.
The usual stuff from MIUI-AU and MIUI-XJ.
Some changes reverted in build.prop that actually caused worst performance instead of better.
Cleaned up init.d scripts.
you didnt get any glicht or freezes o the screen, because this is my major problem on the gingerbread rom from huawei.
Looking nice. So only difference to other is kernel?

I agree with ooie. Who cares about the attitude or whatever... The FAQs are there because people don´t like to read much and don´t care about searching for the information.
We care about the work and I´m grateful. I´m still using "his" Froyo based MIUI and in a few days I will try this one.

I guess you are referring to the FAQ. Many of the things i'm writing are mostly with a humorous attitude so please don't hate me
Anyway the major issues so far is the random reboots and battery life and that's where i'm focused now. If you can't stand them for the time being or don't want to test please don't install this one and use the one with the 2.6.32 kernel that is stable.

This lol
I remembered when I first got my tab (in short, I traded a laptop, Xbox 360, and games used for a brand new SGT). First thing I did was rooted it via some app. Then I proceeded to install busybox for some reason, then thought "meh I feel like going back to stock" so I just uninstalled busybox (ignoring whatever message it said about not uninstalling it).
Tab didn't reboot, then I panicked and tried flashing something with Odin (not sure what it was, but I ended up trying to fill all the boxes in Odin with some files and then flashing). It failed
Eventually, I then just gave up trying to keep stock and went with Overcome
So I'm pretty lucky to still have my tab lol...
Nowadays, I find it easy to try out different ROM's (I always just restock according to Overcome's GB guide, then proceed to flash a custom ROM and Kernel)
I'd recommend spending some time on Froyo stock for a bit, then eventually trying to update to either stock Gingerbread, or another stable Gingerbread ROM (such as Overcome or Hyperdroid). Then do a bit of research and then try to go to ICS.
Just be careful on what your flashing, always double-check things, and check out people's feedback
Edit:

I believe the roger's tab uses the GT-P1000 kernel but I'm not sure...do a quick search or ask the guys here.
Oh and btw, HumberOS build is quite outdated compared to the releases from Slim's build which can be found here. This ROM .zip already comes with kernel so it should work just fine on your tab I guess? And don't forget to flash gapps after ROM, but I guess that's pretty obvious judging from the other devices you messed with lol

Welcome!
Just a quick note on flashing the tab. As you already noticed, you should get on Gingerbread bootloaders first. The rest is up to you, all current ROMs for our Tab can be flashed on top of them. Seeing you got over the softbrick with Overcome, you should be home free already.
PS: also make sure your tab is charged at more than 10% before you start flashing or you might not be able to get into recovery or download mode. It may look like a softbrick, but you just need to let it charge...
Peace and happy flashing!

Seems we need an ASOP rom, or CM ROM running on the tablet, then replace some files... well seems easy to say but dunno about when need to be done...
I will not risk my tablet right now, I need it for work
Hell im game to test, a different rom wouldnt be bad, variety is what the a500 needs...

Miui is much more than an iPad. Yes an miui port is possible and "may" being worked on right now. I ported the miui rom to the pyramid for many months and have considered doing one on the A500. But miui is heavily cyanogenmod based. Once cm9 is established on the tablet there are many possibilities for roms. But getting there is the hard part and I am greatful for the people who are working on cm9 for the iconia.

I already tried porting it using this guide. Unfortunately it didn't boot - reached MIUI boot screen and that was all. I used Tegraowners ROM 144 as a base(AOSP based) and MIUI 2.4.6 ROM - tried from several deviced with no luck. I see arrom1983 managed to boot MIUI on Galaxy 10.1" tab - see this thread....but there are no updates on the progress apparently.

robkoehler, sorry my friend but this is completely wrong. Please don't start another flame war about MIUI being the same as iStuff. You can replace default MIUI launcher and still have MIUI functionality that is way better than Android's default . Other that that, there are plethora of features I could count if you want me to.

You can add A501 Evil Alex Unleashed ICS of Moscow Desire http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1635577
Nothing wrong with Taboonay ICS. Also, you forgot EZTerry's rom.

May be you could write Android 4 ROM List... there are lots of HC ROMS not mentionned in your list. Also, there is an ICS transformer port for A501: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653926

the HC roms are just old and stupid, if you are not on ics by now you need to log off xda and stop annoying us:angel:
will add the transformer port
you should add Taboonay 3.2b6 which is not so old
End of "Taboonay 3.0.1" Topic

I just thought it might be more accurate to specify android 4.x so people do not get confused and ask for a HC ROM to appear in the list... but no problem
I have been on ICS since the first Tegra Owners buids and ACER leaks. anyway, good idea...
it would be nice to secify which ROM support OC, 3G sticks, NTFS external drives...
No taboonay, show me 10 people who use it and I will

While jnktechstuff may have strong views on some things, he is entitled to his own opinion.
You may find it annoying but being abusive is totally uncalled for...

Ok it's your opinion but thus, you should change the title to "MY ROM List"... and put the thread to "general" section.
Hey guys,
Opinions are fine, flaming is not - keep it respectful please.
Thread cleaned and moved to general, thanks.
