I use CM9 non-opengl and it is as smooth as my CM7. It does not run video well or netflix, but other than that, pretty smooth. And when the devs get through with the 3.0 kernel, things will improve there too. And they are really getting close.

Officially from producer of NC (B&N) probably there will be no ICS released.
So, any current custom Rom are totally based on general source code, which needs quite a lot of work to make it run right for our Nooks.
But as was written above, the result is quite imppressive, although not always stable.

[Q] is cm7 gingerbread?

My favorite new game for iOS, Whale Trail, is being released for android today i just found out from the dev that this is only for Gingerbread OSs please tell me cm7 is gingerbread or there's some type of gingerbread Rom i can flash, this game is awesome and itd be even better on my kf
Yes, CM7 is Gingerbread (2.3.x).
Awesome thanks
Pretty sure the stock ROM is also Gingerbread, just as an FYI.

[Q] What are the cool kids using these days?

I've dusted off my NC after a few months packed away. I'm pondering loaded a new rom/kernel/whatever. Unfortunately, I haven't kept up with what's available and cool development advancements, etc. I'd appreciate some recommendations on the latest and greatest stuff. I'm currently running CM7 with Dalingrin's OC kernel that I got last June. I'd like to get something with bluetooth support (heck, for all I can remember, what I currently have supports bluetooth).
Anyway, thanks in advance for any recommendations.
I am dualbooting from EMMC. CM7 Mirage Kang and CM9 with Open GL. I do not update CM9 that often because it is in alternate and takes about an hour to update total. I do update when a new CM7 Mirage Kang comes out though.
Installing the dualboot setup is a breeze updating primary is a breeze too. It is just a pain for me to update alternate.
Thanks. I'm curious, can you tell me what Mirage Kang is? And what does Open GL buy me? If I wasn't going to dual boot, would you recommend CM7 or CM9?
Definitely Kang, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344873
CM9 isn't even officially in Beta testing yet.

Mirage Kang http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344873 is just a modified build of CM7 that is updated when any useful release is released. So it's not a nightly thing. I love it!
As far as CM9 open gl, I think it has something to do with movies and such. It is not enabled by default on the CM9 nightly so I don't think it would hurt.
I would recommend CM7 Mirage Kang if you are not going to dualboot as CM9 is not really ready for prime time. I have it on mine because it is not hurting my current set up. I actually have alot more space on CM7 than I did when I wasn't dualbooting. I would recommend repartitioning so you have more space for apps and games on EMMC. I would use the 1.96gb scheme as found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094371 .
Please also note that dual booting is not limited to CM7 and CM9 but it works for almost any combination. Stock, CM7, CM9, MIUI (did I spell that right) etc. So maybe run a rooted stock and CM7 on the same machine.
Thanks a million, zires. I've now got myself a zippy new Mirage Kang Nook with the supercharger and everything.
I had to come back after using this for a while and comment that the battery life is amazing compared to what I used to get. Thanks again.

Ics is the best for gaming. You can try the older AOKP rom that I use below in my signature. It's pretty stable.
The best for games is gingerbread sense 3.5.Because some games for example from gameloft, are not fully compatible with ics.Ok sense 3.5 roms arent the best option for daily use but for games are better from any cm7/aosp. Ics roms is the next option but the problem is that not all games are compatible with ics android version.

Isn't that because the build.prop is set to a high end device?

Not true, I've found every game I've tried on ICS works pretty much fine and on GB they're far laggier. Even if some games aren't compatible with ICS as you claim, the FPS/performance tradeoff is too large to justify using GB over ICS.
I look for ANDROID 2.3.7 ROM /No matter sense/ with works rotation screen?

Which ICS ROM did you initially install? I've been on NexusHD2 for a couple of weeks now and it's incredibly stable, it actually is better for daily use than TyphooN (CM7) was for me.
Model Number - NexusHD2
Android version - 4.0.3
Baseband version - 15.40.50.07U_2.11.50.20
Kernel version - 2.6.32.15_tytung_ics_r1
[email protected] #230
Mod version - MedroidMod
Build number - IML74K (NexusHD2-ICS-CM9 v1.5)

That was before HWA when it was still in beta, try the new version. It's brilliant, just replace the stock launcher with GO Launcher or another launcher which isn't based on ICS (e.g. Launcher Pro, ADW etc).
ICS HWA Roms are significantly faster than 3.5 sense roms or 2.3.7 no sense roms etc in gameplay..Have used most of them and the AOKP ICS is the better for me..The loading and response are way faster
And do someone send me a Android 2.3.7 ROM /With or without Sese/ with works rotate?

But he was also using NexusHD2 v1.5, which was before HWA and before it became stable. v2.1 is extremely good, and I've heard that the Paranoidandroid ROM is absolutely stunning as well. Tried it out on SD and it was fairly good, but I didn't have time to really mess around with it much.

Go for hyperdroid ROM and install go launcher, extract the zip of ROM and replace GO launcher with native launcher, you will love it and battery is ever lasting and try installing chainfire 3D driver and you are all set to play the best games...:good:

Whats the fastest rom for out devices?

Like the topic says, which rom is quickest? Im currently running Phiremod 7.2. Its not the quickest thing, but then again, this device isn't very powerful and were using it in a way not intended when this was being developed (the nook)...
EDIT: ... for OUR devices...
Mirage Kang build of CM7 is the best and is getting better. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344873 .

Funny, I just looked at that thread before making this one, I didn't really read into it to much, just glanced over it. I think I'll take a look again and try it out.
thank you
i think that's MIUI but unfortunately, it's discontinued developing!
Tried all phiremod version and cm7 nightlies.
In my personal opinion, I am stuck with nightly 233 since I first tried it as it seems to be the fastest for me.

Mirage Kang hands down!
I've been running CM7 on my NC since nightly 34. The 5/27 build of Mirage Kang is phenomenal.
Mirage-Kang has got my vote as well.
I have tried all the roms out there and keep going back to Mirage. Haven't found anything better.

Yeah most def KANG

What version and ROM would you currently put on your Desire Z?

Hello
Ive come from Mimicry (4.0) which is pretty good but I want to enjoy those new JB features. For stable reasons, which would you go with: 4.0, 4.1, or 4.2? And what ROM?
Thank you

I'm currently running andromadus aosp 4.2.2. Pretty stable and smoothest performance I've found so far.

You make it sound like there is a final version out. They are just putting out builds right?

Yes just builds at the moment. But over the past 2 months a lot of the JB builds have gotten to the point where they can be used for daily roms now. Not many 4.0+ stable final builds, mimicry 4.0 is the only one that comes to mind.
BTW, Im having trouble finding the official GAPPS for 4.2.2
Where are they?

Just red this in the thread of flinnys CM 10.1 ROM: there is a link on his website, just poke around a little and you'll find it...sry can't link you there cus atm I'm at my grandma's with ****ty mobile internet :/
And not to get off topic: I use my vision now as a facebook phone with not google account and nothing else but fb-app, dropbox and the spoofing ROM from ghul (CM 10.1)
But before I changed the daily phone device I had dabsa prime v12 and it was the best sense ROMiever had on the vision

Nothing on his site.
There is literally a thread like this popping up EVERY WEEK. Read my post here, and give some ROMs a go.
And it's blatantly obvious that 4.0 is going to be more stable than 4.1 because there are STABLE releases, and 4.1 is going to be more stable than 4.2 because there have been well over 100 test builds of 4.1 whereas 4.2 is up to about 10 - 15 depending on which one you go for.
To reiterate:
For stability = 4.0
For uptodatedness = 4.2
I wouldn't go with 4.1, it's pretty much in limbo at the moment if you apply my above logic.

I think I used these: donandroid.com/gapps (sorry no linking till 10 posts)
Jb-20121212 are the ones to use
i like sense4.1,don't like JB UI
I THINK
4.2 AOSP Build 9. Look no further for stability, snappiness as that of near stock Gingerbread CM9.
I'm also using the AOSP 4.2.2 from Fyodor but Build 10. Just about to change to the Jelly Baby v1.1.0 just to give it a try but the Build 10 is THE fastest and snappiest rom I've ever used so far. Battery life is roughly 2 days and multitasking is just flying even without Supercharger.
Just give it a try!
Cheers
I've switched to Gen.Y VisionX R3 running ICS 4.0.3 and found it painfully slow after CM7.2 latest nightly. But the looks and feel much better than CM7 of couse. Which I had a ROM as fast as CM7 and at least half as good looking as Sense roms
AW: What version and ROM would you currently put on your Desire Z?
I flashed ASOP 4.2.2 from Fyodor, and it's very fast and there are no issues I found. Will keep it for daily use.
