How many mails do you have for last 4 days. As per default settings, Gmail fetches last 4 days email only.
Usage also depends on attachment downloads.

it was the usual 10-15 but I had auto sync OFF, so it should not use data in the background and none of my mails had any such attachment
Also, I have been using the same setting for the past 1 week, but this just happened out of nowhere

Are u sure auto sync was off. Clearly Gmail app has downloaded an attachment which was big for you, but idk if it did it even though u set auto sync off cause that ain't possible.

Did it happen again or it was a one time event ? maybe a toogle problem..... Out of ideas
Send from my Galaxy S with Slim ICS 3.9 + Semaphore 1.2.2

Nope, didn't happen again, what I did after the heavy use was to uninstall gmail and install it again from play store, its working well so far
And yes, i am not using auto sync as my data pack is really small, i never really turned it on

[Q] Aditional google calendars don't sync...

Hello,
I don't know what's wrong with the synchronization of calendars with Nexus 4 (Stock ROM) but I haven't found a way to auto-synchronize additional calendars. I mean, apart from my personal calendar I have other additional calendars selected, named:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Except the personal calendar ([email protected]), whose synchronization works perfectly, the other additional calendars were synchronized only the first time I selected in the device (in the screenshot you can saw that are synchronized but them are not). To re-sync I have to remove and put them back by hand, every time ...
The web access to calendar shows all calendars perfectly well so the problem seems to be located in the Nexus 4.
Please, if anyone knows how to make this work, comment.
Thank you and happy new year!
I had the same problem. What worked for me was unchecking the additional calendars and left it like that for a day. A day later I re-checked them to sync and voila! magically they started syncing.

Thanks. I'll try...

[Solved] Google Service wakelock too high

I don't know if this is normal but my phone has very high Google Service wakelock and my Phone Idle is nearly equal with my Screen On although the Screen On time is 2h42m
The Tablet Idle in my Nexus 7 is significantly lower than the Screen On even when I keep it for more than 3 days with light usage.
Below is some screenshots taken with Wakelock Detector and my battery stat:

}
Can someone shed me some light whether Google is messing up their services or my phone is behaving abnormally
Thanks for your help :laugh:
Make sure auto-sync is off. Reboot your phone and it should be fine.

OK, I will try that and report back later
UPDATE: I found the culprit that causes this wakelock. Basically it's the wifi bug that drop the connection when device go to sleep make this. When the wifi drop, the Gtalk service tries to contact the google server but cant and keep retrying, that's where the massive wakelock come from Google Service.
So while we wait for Google to provide a proper fix for this you can try this method from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072930. It works for me, the wakelock is gone
Make sure your phone is rooted
Remount /system as RW
Make a backup of file /system/etc/wifi/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini
Edit the file /system/etc/wifi/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini
Change the line "McastBcastFilter=3" to "McastBcastFilter=0"
Save the file and double check file permissions (-rw-r--r-- root root)
Reboot the phone

It might have something to do with Voice Typing. Try disabling Google Search from Keyboard Input Methods. Or try clearing the data of Android Keyboard.
I get the same issue.
Noticed it because my device got really hot and I saw all four cores constantly above 1,5 GHz (Galaxy S4).
If you look in Apps you will see that Google Keyboard is constantly starting dictionary service. Do not disable the keyboard because the device gets unusable due to Force Closes.
same problem
I have same problem with Google keyboard. Just now I restricted background data for wi-fi and mobile and I noticed that my phone cooled down very fast. I'will test it today and let you know what I found out.
Fixed problem with keyboard draining battery by restricting it's background data both on wi-fi and mobile. Before I got about 2h of SOT on full charge(100%-0%), and now I got 1h 45min SOT on 20%(100%-80%)
over 4gb.... I usually strict my data usage to certain mb. That way I don't have to worry about it. Anyway thanks for the heads up.

thxx a lot!
Gmail 61%? It's a lot. I use inbox and have deactivated Gmail. You would have got a day extra on battery if Gmail was not there
Have you tried removing your Google account and restoring it? It may be a sync issue with GMail trying to sync in the background?
Trying to help...
Hey...
You just updated ?
It´s just a suggest, but i would backup all my device and restore my phone after install this update (5.0.2) and begin a new try...
I´m waiting this update for my D6633.
Sorry for my bad english and bad help !
Good Luck..
Go to settings / apps and clear data and cache.
Then watch what's happening...
Gmail should now behave good...if not, disable it and use Exchange (stock email app) or inbox...
You should, actually factory reset device but try this first.
Z3 powered by Tapatalk
If you wipe your phone, gmail,will try to redownload past email, which may cause the battery life to be shorten during this teething period.
i ve empty the cache, see what happend.

I am facing the same issue, people everywhere say they get 8-10 hours of sot and I am blown, the maximum I get is 6 hours that too on wifi.
For some reason my the highest drain is by whatsapp.

I'm suffering the same with WhatsApp.
Just disable all notifications of whatsapp, both on OS and on the app

Thanks you very much. Now WhatsApp consumption is back to normal.
It's funny when people judge vendor for something that is not but the issue can be junk apps like WhatsApp, I don't use that Trojan whole but anyways not the point, you should understand that you have to control the work of the apps on your device if you have them a lot, in my case I have 100 apps something and they all configured to my needs and I charge my phone once a day, that includes using it as a work tool, watch media, internet surfing, even play games sometimes, basically all they long active and no issues. If it were a global issue that would affect all of the phones but not random. Just think about it.
