IMHO, SD build is not for daily use. Battery drains fast and SD card warms up and causes lags all the time.
BTW, you can flash back WM on any time, even without a PC, you just need a file
photimg.nbh with your WM ROM on SD card root folder.

Prepare a high capacity memory card.
You don't need to boot from SD anymore, booting from SD is not stable,it will slow down the speed.
I had been thinking of Dualboot, but it looks like still not available yet,but be patient,it might be available in the future.
So why not just use this ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677950
A lot of ROMs over there. Try it out! I'm using CM Scream, nearly perfect!
I recommended you to buy a high capacity memory card so you can install android apps to card instead of internal memory. They have a lot of FREEBIES for you to install compared to windows mobile.
Google search for original rom if you want to use back the Windows Mobile 6.5.3

No USB
Hi guys,
I have a problem with my phone's USB port, so is there a way to install the NAND version from SD card?? Without having an Active Sync connection to the PC??
Thanks

About usb connection
currently,it looks like quite confused.Anyway, you can use wifi to connect to your android instead.
Use AirDroid (FREE) It is really useful and easy!!You will like it!! USB is more trouble than it.

Hey, thanks for the tip. It looks useful but only AFTER I get android My problem is that I want to install android, but don't have USB. I know there are SD card versions, but those are not good for daily use. The card heats up and there are a lot of breaks and freezes. So I'm asking if there is a way to install a ROM (Nand) from SD card.

Suggestion
USE:
CARD READER(MEMORY CARD TO PC)/ Connect your Windows Mobile to PC via WiFi (Download by using your Windows Mobile/Connect to PC) Remote Desktop or something like that??I never use it so I'm not sure.
Or do you have another Android in your windows mobile already? If have, you can download Airdroid and copy the files from PC to your MEMORY CARD and then uninstall the SD version of android then install the NAND android.(quite tricky)

For example, there is a way to flash a new ROM (WM) from SD. You extract the contents of the EXE file and rename the RUU_Signed.nbh to PHOTIMG.nbh and run bootloader. Isn't there something similar for the Android OS ROMs??? I'm sure it's more or less the same procedure.

AFAIK, it's not possible. ROM requires some digital signing to run.
Even custom WM ROMs you could not install from SD for the same reason.

Download AppMonster or Astro from the market. These will allow you to copy apks to your SD card. But note, you can't run apps from your SD card, you can only swap them in and out of memory.

Anyway to install android without usb?

Is there anyway I can do the whole android installation process without using usb? Not sure why but I keep getting "usb device not recognized". I installed activesync and windows mobile device center but no luck.
I do have a bluetooth connection and have access to the sd card.
By a card reader perhaps...
While in windows mobile, you need to have your device in mass storage or disk drive mode to access the sd via usb. Your issue sounds like a usb driver issue with your computer.
An alternative is to put your microSD into a sd adapter. You can then place the sd into a multi-card reader or sd to usb adapter.
So if I have access to my sd card where I can put and take out files, then it would be possible? But the problem is not being able to do a HSPL3, right? Thanks all
I seriously think someone needs to read the idiots guide to installing android!
You don't need the USB at all to install android on the HD2. The only reason you'd need USB is to change radios or the base Winmo ROM.

But isn't changing the radio/roms essential in the process of getting android on this phone? I am reading one set of instructions on how to get android and it talks about getting the 2.10 shipped rom and then HSPL3. So, yeah I'm trying to follow the instructions.

read this it will tell you exactly how you do it.. it's a requirement that you have a way of transferring data to your microSD card.. Either by a USB cable (through winmo) or a memory card reader.. It would be nice if you can have both, as once you start playing around with different android builds, kernel, radio version etc., you will find it much easier with both..

If you have a US T-Mobile HD2 then you probably need to change the radio and winmo rom or you will likely have the robot voice problem. You can install android first if you want to see what it is like. If you put the android folder on your SD card and boot into android and there is no robot voice problem, you are good. Might as well try it, you might not need a new HSPL and winmo rom. If android won't boot due to your radio, 2.07 and below I think, then you have to update your radio. Try reading the flashing guides again and going step by step to double check that you aren't skipping anything.

Is it necessary to format the SD Card before installing Android?

Hello,
is it necessary to format the SD Card before installing Android? Or different question: I want still be able to run WinMo on my HTC HD2 Leo and use all my programs I've installed on the SD Card - can I copy all files on the SD-Card to my PC, install Android and copy them back?
Thanks so much!

it isn't necessary to format, tho i have seen a number of posts from people claiming to have corruption & lag issues until they did reformat, so you may want to, just to be safe.
personally ive only done a full format once, just after buying the card almost a year ago & haven't had any problems to date (touch wood)
as for still using winmo & files, you can as long as you're using an SD build
all the best
I have tried both ways and worked fine for me.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
not needed , it is optional.............i have all my winmo related files and 2 android builds running from the same card, never done a format.....working wonderfully well from the start.............ifi t doesnot work, then try format like some people say
Thanks so much!! I tried to copy everything but can't copy one file: XMEMediaLibrary.mlb (some process uses it).
So I will first try to install Android without format.
Gromhelm
Did it and no problems untill now. I am amazed by Android on HD2! Even Layar is working!!
some manufacturer will format their card with SD Association standard because SD Association think they know best about SD Card.
they even say this in http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter:
SD or SDHC memory card file systems formatted with generic operating system formatting software do not comply with official SD memory card requirements and optimum performance may not be experienced.

what they refuse to admit is everybody has given up hopes to do anything that does not work with old Microsoft standard, long before SD Association was founded in 2000, so everything (phone, camera, mac, linux) will work if you format it with FAT32.
to be safe, after you buy any card, just use Windows to format and you can be sure it will works on any device. just select default file system and default cluster size, or just click restore device default, and you're good to go. it's so easy and you don't have to know anything.
if you wonder why android works only on 32 or 64bit cluster size, it's because that's FAT32 default cluster size depending on your card size. and one day, i predict android will also work on exFAT.

I just formatted the SD card in android and it worked fine, able to store everything on there and android recognizes it fine. maybe i got lucky
hi 96edwy
i've asked you on your youtube link but also on here if you don't mind
i have a working 8GB PNY micro sd card that has been reformated from 199mb capacity
i want my hd2 wm7 to recognise it so i can use it to store more conversations, applications and put music on
do you have any idea how i can achieve this?
If wp7 doesn't recognise it, maybe its not supported, there is a thread on here with the sd cards that are supported, have you checked if your sd card is supported?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Thanks for youtube video. I have 16gig that come with htc hd2 some people say it works flawless, but mine keep boot up to DFT and reboot cycle. Rarely I open it up and it will go to windows. So when you install windows phone 7 it will automatic copy file to SD card right?

yes sorry to say your sd card is gone, all data is lost.
you can go back to wm6.6 by flashing a stock or custom rom, just boot into the tricolour screen and flash as you would any normal rom
Thanks God anyway
but when i try to flash custom Rom it gaves me connection error on the installation progress
why is that ?
I just mount SD card in MAGLDR then diskpart clean it then format it normally...

you need to allow usb connection from your active sync which is disabled in order to flash wp7
Thanks again
Hey Dude thanks for getting my card back very much appreciated, excellent tutorial
Manual with Command promt
1. Run command prompt with admin privileges
2. Type in diskpart
3. Type in "list disk" to find diskpart's designation for your flash drive
4. Assuming your flash drive is disk 1 type:
a. select disk 1
b. clean
c. create partition primary
d. select partition 1
e. active
f. format fs=fat32 quick
g. assign
h. exit
after runnng wm7, i still can format sdcard by using another android phone/nokia phone. And the sdcard is recognized when my phone is running android/wm7/wm6.5). But there are 2 weird problems that i can't solve:
1. cannot use SD formatter v.30 software to format my sdcard again. always get error message when the format process reaches 30-40%. Even if i pre format my sdcard by using another software(hard disck low level format, partition wizard) /phone( android phone, nokia, window 6.5 phone), SD formatter still can't format my sdcard.
2. cannot install any android SD builds. When the android boots, the screen show me " ... cannot find any logical sector..."
thanks!

i thought that was obvious tbh, it works exactly the same both ways, just easier to not take the sd card out your phone, plug it into an adapter then into a card reader, u eva thought people might not have a card reader??
Format WP7 SD with photo camera
I had a very unconventional method to restore my SD card.
I put it in my Canon photo camera and did a low level format.
After this I could access it fully again through windows / android.

[Q] SD Card/ROM App Problem!

Hey guys,
Firstly, if this is the wrong place to post I am really sorry!
My problem is, I bought an HTC HD2 it works great and I am currently running Android 2.3.7 from my SD card which is great.
However, I have only a few apps downloaded; Facebook, Twitter, Gmail etc... But I am not able to update them as the phone says there isn't enough room on my phone?
I was wondering;
Am I able to move the applications on to the SD card so that there is plenty of room for updates? (I've barely used 1gb of 8, on the SD card)
Or is there an alternative way? I have deleted a load of rubbish off to try and make room but it keeps coming up with the notification 'There is insufficient room' etc... My Facebook is so out of date and slow its painful!
PLEASE HELP!
Cheers,
Mouunt
You need to increase the size of your data.img so you will have more storage space. Here is a link to how to do this, but it is for Linux so if you do not use Linux you can just make you a live CD or a bootable USB flash drive of Ubuntu just Google them to get info on how to do this. This will allow yu to use Ubuntu with out having to install it and it works much easier and better than in a vertual machine.
Now you can do this on Windows too but to be honest it has been a long time since I used a SD card ROM so I do not remember off the top of my head and I can not find a guide to point you to, sorry about that. But if you have to much trouble just contact me and I you can upload your data.img and I will resize it for you and then re upload it for you. I run Windows and Ubuntu on my laptop.

You will have to take and either use the the USB mass storage function in Windows Mobile or use a USB SD card reader to copy the data.I mg file to your computer. Now like I said before it has been a long time since I used a SD card ROM so I do not remember the exact location you will find it but it will be in one of the folders that Android makes on your SD card when you first boot it up. Once you have the data.img copied to your computer follow the guide to make it bigger and then copy it back to the same place you got it from and replace the old data.img with it.
