no wifi even on stock 2.2.1 - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, major lurker here.
I've been running MIUI roms for the past year or so and have always been happy.
Recently the phone went into a bootloop while I was trying to load a game(scramble with friends).
Every rom I flashed, it wouldn't take the bootloop away so I flashed a stock 2.3.4 rom. Fixed the bootloop but then wifi would only say 'turning wifi on...' then soon after, wifi would be off. And i couldn't get visionary to work to re-root so I hastedly did the htc dev unlock bootloader (before I found downgrade threads).
Flashed a buncha roms and different kernels and did the bcm4329.ko flash/install methods but my wifi problem is still the same, turning on...turning off.
Now I'm back to stock 2.2.1, and no wifi.
Anyone have an idea of what to try next? I've tried every rom and kernel I could find, could it really be a hardware issue?? If it is, maybe I can just disassemble and solder a wire back on? lol
Thanks in advance!

you need to upgrade to gingerbread and you will be fine thats 2.3.4

Radio has nothing to do with wifi.
It honestly sounds like either something came undone inside your phone, or the wifi chip is shot.

[Q] Image version reported by RUU prior to unrooting

Hey guys.. My Shift 4G has been rooted for quite some time, and I had been running CM 7.1 RC1 most recently.. After the past several weeks, I have experimented with various ROMs and Radios.. At one point I did upgrade the radio firmware to 1.08.00.0506 and the WiMax Radio to 27240.
I had also experimented with the rooted 2.76.651.4 Sense ROM posted by x99percent.. I wasn't thrilled with Sense, and ended up going back to CM7.1 RC1.. I also downgraded the radio 1.07.00.1129 and WiMax back to 27167.
Since I was playing around with the various ROMs and Radios, my Shift will never charge above 85%.. I am familiar with clearing batterystats.bin - and had tried various measures to get the battery to charge above 85%.. I used Battery Monitor, and it showed that basically around 85%, the Shift was turning off the internal charging circuit (Current would show usually less than 100mA..)
Thinking that perhaps something was sticking around from my various experimentations, I decided to use the original RUU (RUU_Speedy_Sprint_WWE_1.17.651.1_Radio_1.07.00.1129_NV_SPCS_1.52_1103_release_160079_signed) to revert back to stock and start over.
One of the things that came up when I ran the RUU was it showed the current image version as 2.76.651.4.. This was even though my radio was 1.07.00.1129. Does anyone know why that would be reported that way?
I'm currently on the original sense RUU, and now it appears to be charging correctly. Once it does, I'll re-root and go back to CM7.1 RC1.
Thanks,
Rick

Sorry about posting to the wrong forum.. I PM'd the mod to have it moved to Evo Shift 4G General.
The thing that did not make sense to me was the fact that I had restored my Nandroid backup from CM7.1 RC1, and restored the radio with the bootloader to 1.07.00.1129. I ran the RUU against CM7.1 RC1 and radio version 1.07.00.1129.

I used the orignal RUU for Froyo -- not the Gingerbread RUU.
Oh my bad haha. I was about to say...you should be good to re-root then no? I flashed the new radio's manually just fine over cm7. Still on the same radio's and cm7 to this day

[Q] Help with Mytouch 4G with Gingerbread 2.3.4

Hello everyone,
Any help you guys can give will be much appreciated.
I have a MyTouch 4G previously running Froyo, rooted and S=Off. Against better judgment, I decided to put this release of Gingerbread 2.3.4 on it:
PD15IMG_Glacier_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.19.531.1_Radio_12.58.60.25_26.11.04.03_M_release_200756_signed.zip
Though everything seems to work fine, I lost root. Contrary to most other accounts from other people who flashed the same file, S=Off remained on my phone.
I would really like to get root back so I can use some of my apps again.
Visionary stops at a black screen.
Gingerbreak runs forever with no success.
What other means can I use to get root back or am I SOL for now until someone figures out how to root 2.3.4 on the MT4G?
Thanks again.
N
From what I could find in the forums, you are kinda stuck till someone comes up with another exploit in order to gain root and s-off
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
I am stuck in the same situation, except that I updated first to the official gingerbread rom for mytouch 4g and then tried to root my phone, i.e. the phone was not rooted at all.
I'm quite confident an exploit will be (re)written - just a matter of time. It's just that I couldn't use some of my paid apps.

I tried flashing a similar 2.3.4 release that is rooted. Renamed it to PD15IMG.zip and tried applying it - At "parsing", it stops and just goes back to the HBOOT menu.

You are mixing up roms and official update zips. You can't just flash a rom thorough hboot. That's not how it works.

lOOK AT WOLF26915's post use the G2 instructions to temp root using the fre3vo exploit in adb then change your version number to 1.17.531.2, then your bootloader will allow you to use the 2.2.1 PD15IMG update to get back to stock and root.

This is the problem with n00bs. You wanna jump head first into something you have absolutely no understanding of then beg for help over and over in here when you finally brick your phone.
Stupid. You FAIL!
So sick of new users of Android trying to jump before looking. You're the same kind of people who would jump off a cliff before checking to see how deep the water is. Then want help after you break your neck.

That was 20 years ago. And yet, even then, when I wanted to know something; I searched and searched and searched, and searched again. Then I read and read and re-read over and over and over again. And after all that if I still didn't know then I would ask. But I would also ask in a proficient manner.
Too many young kids jumping in on the Android bandwagon and wanting to root and flash Rom's right out of the box without learning first.
I stand by my first statement.
If you had Radio S-OFF, you should be able to flash an unsigned PD15IMG.zip even though you lost root.

[Q] Stock Gingerbread rom (not leaked version), rooted but otherwise untouched?

Ok, maybe I suck at searching, and if I missed it, I apologize, but...
Has anyone made a rooted version of the OFFICIAL (not leaked version) stock Gingerbread rom yet? I'm basically looking for the complete OTA update with no changes except root.
And please don't make fun... I actually LIKE some of the T-Mobile bloat, but much of it does me no good as I'm using the handset with Wind Mobile. I want to stay stock, but keep root so I can freeze/delete the bloat I don't need or want.
I suspect it's a little early in the OTA to be looking for this, but I thought it was worth a shot anyway.
Thanks

No problem. Although you should try VU if you haven't. Much more appealing than TMO's mySense.
EDIT: Wait, I notice that you're in Canada. So I'm assuming you have the HTC Panache? If so then I'm not sure if this would be compatible. Again I'm just assuming, just make sure.
Unlocked MyTouch 4G actually.
Main reason I'm sticking with stock is that I actually like the genius button feature and swype keyboard.

Thats not the official version that is being sent out OTA and via sdcard (at some retail locations) the official one:

Software-2.09.531.1
Baseband: 12.55.60.25P_26.09.04.26_M
has yet to be uploaded, correct me if I am wrong. But telling people that is the official version being released by tmo is incorrect.

Yeah, I thought it was the OFFICIAL version myself. Now I have a few issues after flashing the ROM, and being a new member, I can't even let anyone know about it as I can't post in that thread....
1) Lost my Mail app. No big deal - I just installed Maildroid.
2) GPS isn't working. It's turned on, but I'm not getting a lock at all in either the coverage mapper app or Google maps. This IS a big deal.
If anyone has a solution to problem #2, please let me know.
*EDIT*
Here's what I got now:
Android version 2.3.4
Build number 2.19.531.1 CL95282 release-keys
Baseband version: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M

Well, the radio is definitely wrong comparing to the official version, and it looks like flashing the newest radio should fix the issue according to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1185039.html
So assuming that the newest radio is 12.55.60.25P_26.09.04.26_M, if I can find it then it should play nice with the rest of the updated ROM?
Alternatively, can I just download the Panache radio version or the Froyo radio I had before and flash one of them?
Sorry for the noob questions here, but I'm just getting into this and I'm trying to be careful. Files and directions I'm finding with no problems, but compatibility specifics are still a little beyond my reach.
You have stock radio. if you wanted updated radio for that you should have renamed the zip as pd15img and flash in hboot... I think... Please read the whole thread before doing so. anyways try flashing KC's version of the leaked tmo. btw radios are the top sticky in the android dev section.

LOL! ”I think” does not inspire confidence....
This whole thing is frustrating, and it's largely my own fault for just taking someone's word for it instead of checking myself.
Either way, what's done is done, and I'll just try to switch the radio and run as is until someone makes an untouched but rooted official stock version.
When and if that happens, I'll start fresh.
I'm not feeling up to setting up my phone from scratch yet again at the moment.

lol sorry i remember going through the thread over a month ago or so, and I was on my phone and too lazy to search it myself. I am still lazy to search it, but from my experience, KC's version is more "user-friendly" it's stock too, so give that a go.
I have a plan, but I understand that flashing a radio is somewhat of a risky procedure, so I'm looking for verification on a few things before I start.
As I said above, once someone comes out with a rooted but otherwise untouched OFFICIAL (final) Gingerbread stock ROM with radio, I'll just replace the whole mess, but until then....
So, I'm permarooted using visionary. S off checked in hboot. I do NOT have radio s off though, from what I've read - don't know if that really makes a difference.

I'm intending to flash the 3rd Gingerbread ROM in the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059347 using the directions in the same thread.
Does anyone see any issues with this ROM/radio combination or the procedure?
Anything else I should know before I start that isn't in the thread?
Any help is appreciated as I can't afford to brick my phone right now, and I wouldn't be doing this except my GPS hasn't worked since I flashed the ROM, and I need it.
That's exactly how I did it; GPS is working fine now. Radio flash was very easy. S=off (without true radio s=off) is all you need. If you can figure out how to get radio s=off using this rom, lmk...

Guys....I am getting crazy...I had a perfectly good CM7.1.0.1 buzz working (wifi too)
then after I played around with it for 3-4 days and installed various apps, the WIFI stopped working. As in, it scans ok, but when try to connect it fails..
- i fails even on open networks
- sometime its fails to obtain IP, sometimes it doesnt even reach that point.
I have tried to:
- activate airplane mode - tunr wifi on - reboot - many times in various orders..nada
- install various 'fixer' apps. nada
- flash new radio.nada
- flash new kernel.nada
- back up restore.nada
- clear cache, factory reset, dalvik clear . nada
- flashed latest CM nightly(256). Phone failed To Load.
- flashed CM7.0.3 - phone failed to load
- flashed CM7.1.0.1 again, phone loaded, (lost all settings) but wifi STILL not working
- I have tried varius networks, tried resetting, tried disabling encryption, changing channel, just about every option on the router. Its the phones fault.
I am very curious about this, because this error seems very serious and not many people seem to have it...so I am missing something Big..(?)
I will try to do a complete fresh install deleting everything formating etc
Maybe some app screwed up the wifi???
im a NOOB! any1 care to enlighten???

Using an ruu is a full restoration the only thing different with a safe ruu is you won't lose any of the good stuff. I have made my own safe ruu, saved on my SD which I've used twice to solve problems, first was wifi wouldn't connect at all even after a reflash and the second problem was random reboots on every rom, nandroid backup I had. Just flashing the ruu fixed both of those and I was back up and running on cm7 in about 20 minutes with no problems at all.
I haven't updated my sig for months but it is still more or less the same, I always end up back on cm7 no matter what rom I try.
It just feels right to me.......

check that the sim cover is on its place and well set. If that does not work try cleaning the antenna (the contacts on the lid) with alcohol...

I suffered from the same problem he did whenever I tried to flash the latest leedroid. I never managed to figure it out. Granted, I never did put much effort into it.
This time buddy, gotta disagree with you
Edit: I assumed that u re using 5.1.0 maybe? If this so, just flash 5.1.1 fix
- with me, everytime I flashed the fix I would loose the radio. 5.1.0 worked without issues (for the little time I used it.)

As mentioned above you definitely need to flash this. It's a known issue, but easily fixed. I'm using it now and it works flawlessly.
