Sleep of death problem - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hello guys
About a month and a half ago I got a samsung galaxy note. It's been great so far, the only wrong thing with it is sometimes it doesn't wake up from sleep.
I have to long press the power button for about 10 seconds to restart the phone. I'ts really annoying not knowing if your phone is sleeping or completely off.
I've googled SOD problem but i still don't know if it's faulty hardware or software, should i return the phone or can this be fixed?
I'm running stock gingerbread 2.3.6
Thanks

Thanks i've read the thread and it seems it's a SW issue. Can you confirm this?
I just want to be sure it's SW related not HW related to know if i need to return the phone while i'm still in warranty period.

If you havent tinkered with it bring it back

I once installed a custom ROM, i didn't like so i went back to the original ROM so i guess it shouldn't be a problem.

Are you rooted or anything right now other than completely stock?

Phone needs to be returned. How do I go back to stock?

So, all of the sudden my menu key light started flickering. So I restarted the phone, and noticed it's flickering (going on and off) during boot as well, so it's definitely a hardware issue. I just got the phone 3 days ago, so I'll be returning it. Question is, I've been trying out custom roms and should probably go back to stock before I return it. I'm new to Android (ex WM user) so I'm not really sure how to go about doing this. With Windows Mobile, you could just load the stock ROM back on, and relock. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to return it today. Thanks!

Day one and im bricked..

Just jumped ships from sprint and got my facinate. Today rooted with one click and tried installing clock work. Thmanage rom manager. All seems well then suddenly my phone freezes for ten minutes I have to do a battery pull. Phone wont boot in anyway or form now. No lights or signs of life other than if I hold the power button as long as its pressed. A device labeled SEC S5PC110 Test B/D appears in device manager. And that'd all it will do. Thinking about exchanging it tomorrow afternoon. Just letting the community know what happened to me any thoughts as how or what happened might be able to help future mishaps
I'd try doing an odin flash. Just search the forums for the step by step. If u can get the phone into flash mode.
Yeah dude, definitely try Odin. Did you try flashing cwm from within ROM manager? I ask because that doesn't work for our phones yet, and it wouldn't surprise me if that could cause problems. I would use Odin to flash it back to stock, and then use the very thorough guide on here on how to get cwm going.

Hard for him to do a backup when he got bricked installing CWM LOL
Possibly bootlocked.
Newer Fascinates seem to be locked. Don't know if there is any way to tell which you've got without attempting a modification of the system....which would of course, result in the above nastiness....
I would think that if newer fascinates were boot locked, so would mesmerizes and I first flashed the stock files for Verizon on my phone then went to elements zinc (which is awesome BTW) installed voodoo 1200 kernel and everything is working great for me. Could just be that he got a bunk phone or something

Why would you think that? Same hardware!=same software...or we'd all be running USC's kernel/ROM.

Could be...which is why I said "possibly" instead of "definitely".
Couldn't get to the flash mode even to use odin, went back today and bestbuy swapped it out for me thinking I just got a bad phone, I could also shake the thing and hear raddling with the usb door shut to so im not really surprised. The new one seems to be working better already, eill try root tonight,

This is why manufacturing companies are locking down phones now. That phone wasn't bricked it could have easily been fixed. OP. Please read and try to learn what u r doing. As well try to have a semi understanding of how u can fix ur phone if u mess it up. I would bet that your phone could have been up and running in 15 minutes.

This is counter development long term.
I further submit that in the future, all root processes require a ten question exam on the users knowledge to work.

Mine crashes sometimes. Even with all original OS. I just pull the battery and all is good.
My volume rocker doesn't rattle, so there is that plus.

[GUIDE] Flash Darkyy's ROM on your Vibrant - INCLUDES PROBLEMS

DARKYY'S ROM FOR SGS VIBRANT
Darky made his ROM flashable for ALL SGS series.
Don't just flash this like ANY OTHER ROM.
*WARNING IF YOU DON'T READ THIS WHOLE THREAD YOU WILL SOFT/HARD BRICK*
FIRSTLY, download this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.darkyrom.darkyconfig
It's called the "DARKYROM CONFIGURATOR" its in the market.
In the App, make sure that these are the settings,
The Modem and Kernel, set them both to NO MODEM, and , SKIP KERNEL
Now download the ROM, and put it in your SD Card.
Go back into Darkyrom config. App.
Now click menu, then SELECT ZIP AND FLASH
It will ask for SuperUser allow it.
It will now boot into Recovery and start Flashing it, it will take a while its a 250MB file.
After flashing is done, it will take a longer-than-usual time to reboot.
It will open.
If you see your PREVIOUS ROM WALLPAPER, SETTINGS ETC...
boot into recovery by using power button, and wipe/factory reset.
Now it should be okay..
-NOTE-
you do NOT have to disable voodoo, well, i didn't and i'm having no problems because of that.
*PROBLEMS*
It Sometimes Randomly reboots, but gives a vibrate as a warning?
It randomly vibrates sometimes... but doesn't always reboot.
Some people may experience all the SD Card Wiped or their music/gallery/etc erased
I will upload some pictures in the second post, through the phone it self.

there's no way around it guys... you're going to get soft reboots when your signal hits about -80dbm
Yeah theres no other problems besides that. I've asked Darkyy to try and help us out, he's probably sleeping right now, so i'll let you guys know.
Keep in mind this is a i9000 ROM
Its a miracle it works universally.
He pmed me he's working on improving it for other variants and keep in mind this is a BETA !

How does the Vibrant flash a 250mb rom? I thought it was a phone limitation (as it was a problem with the leaked 2.2.1 Vibrant 4g rom?)

Wiping solves some problems ull face. Trust me.
Nice of you to start a topic.
The RESTART/Vibrate bug you are refering to is the SAME bug that Jellette/Heathen was experiencing when he was trying to port an i9000 ROM in Ragnarok. He tracked the issue to be caused by the signal. Yes, the SIGNAL strength of the network causes the reboot. It happens when this signal reaches a certain value. Then phone goes crazy and reboots. That's about it. There is still no known solutions to this.
HOWEVER, Eugene beleives he found the file and settings which are causing it. I have PMed Darkyy and he will be looking into the issue when he's back from vacation (currently hes heading out for a few days). I believe jellette/Heathen may also be working on the issue once he gets his replacement phone.
I hope this helps. And yes. Darkyy' ROM is FAMOUS. I don't need to say more about it haha. When/if it works, it will be AMAZING.
If other devs want to jump on this to try and fix it, it would be very very appreciated. This ROM is just too good to pass up
Not to mention, ALL themes from the I9000 forums WILL work with this after it is working on our Vibrants. Go take a look at the I9000 forum, there are literally TENS upon TENS of amazing themes for it.
For the email FCs, it was enough to wipe its data in TitaniumBackup. however, I had issues receiving calls till I wiped/factory reset my phone. Very satisfied so far.

how long is the longer than usual? i tried it last night and i guess it got stuck on a bootloop and kept vibrating too in the bootanimation "darky's rom" for about half and hour
I tried 9.2 extreme edition when it first came out. Super fast, I really liked the presentation, pulled out all the stops with animations and transparent elements sprinkled around. Couldn't get over the nagging bugs though, like the capacitive buttons being mapped all wack, didn't have an effective home button, both home and back functioned like the back button. Also the volume was reversed, and I didn't have sound in certain apps. Also had to flash a US modem, you should mention that in your post, I know it say's choose no modem, but you should mention later to flash one that works.
Used it for a few days like that actually, because it was still super slick and useable...even without the home button lol. But I didn't see it randomly reboot even once.

[Q] WTH just happened?

Hello! I'm new here. I've been browsing the forums for a couple of months now so i finally decided to make an account and this is my first post .
OK. now my question.
so around probably around 15 minutes ago i picked up my phone and it was working fine.
like 5 minutes ago, i picked up my phone and it was turned off. i figured the battery might have died or something. I go to turn it on, and it won't turn on. i took the battery out twice, and still no luck. After about 5 minutes, my phone decided to turn on by itself.
It works fine and everything, but still, can someone possibly explain to me what just happened? lol. i figured it would be hardware related, but if the information is needed...
My phone is rooted
The rom it currently runs is RoyalThunder 2.1. i flashed it yesterday.
So thanks to anyone that can explain this. like i said, my phone works. but i want to know if this has happened to anyone else.
honestly, i've never heard anything like this before. i have a galaxy s i9000 rooted and it has similar problems, the screen would turn off and i can't turn it on until i pull the battery and reboot.
so, not sure, but glad it still works fine
and by the way, welcome to the XDA forums

Is this in reference to the thread I posted as well? If so at what point did you get stuck with the reflash to stock? or did you not want to have to go back to stock?
no flashing...just rooting then stuck....then I used LG tool to put the original firmware and it worked and it says phone is unrooted now and touchscreen is still not working. I will send it to warranty i think.

Ya I just did some digging to see what other options there were and came up short... if attempting warranty doesn't work, (they won't honor) you can try a screen replacement. It is fairly easy on these phones. You can always claim insurance if you have it as well though depending on your plan it may still be a better option to attempt it yourself. I gave up on insurance after best buy stopped covering phones they didn't sell to you directly so I'm not sure what the plans look like today. If you do go the warranty route let me know how it turns out.

flashing back to stock will not help you. You will still be frozen! If your still stuck I found this thread that might help
Anyone else had this happen?
I have it and just used flashtool to flash a .tot file which went well except touchscreen still not working....not sure what else to try?
