Hey everyone!
Does anyone know if the toolbar widget (the wifi/gps/etc toggle buttons in the dropdown menu) that comes with SGS3 stock rom is configurable?
I'd like to change which buttons are there, and the order of them, but I can't seem to find it anywhere in the settings.
I tried searching for it in the forums and on google without success. Also, I'm hoping I'm posting in the right forum. If I'm not, feel free to move it.
Thanks!
It can't be customized via the stock interface. We'll have to wait for custom roms :/
It would be also nice to change the apps shown in the notification area when earphones are plugged in.

Hello,
I was just wondering if there is a way to change the default 3 icons wide quick launch icons using the TMOUS stock rom? I've seen custom roms with 4 and I'm thinking this would suit me better but I dont really want to flash a custom rom until I find out more of what I want.
TIA.

One of the greatest projects to ever come out of XDA is "CoOkie's Home Tab Editor" (aka "CHT")...it will allow you to do all sorts of customization to the home tab on your stock ROM (and on many custom ones as well). It's a powerful tool, but dirt-simple to use. There's also an add-on known as "CoOkie's Home Tab Editor" which gives it even more functionality and flexibility. It's going to be the easiest way to make the kinds of changes you're wanting...links to the threads for both of those are below, and the screenshot shows the customizing I've done to my stock ROM, 90% of which was achieved with CHT and the editor...
CoOkie's Home Tab
CoOkie's Home Tab Editor
In the screenshot below, CHT/CHTE are responsible for the following:
-The location and layout of the quick link icons (you can have even more on the screen than that, if you want)
-The clock/weather size, style, and position
-The notification bar just below the clock...size and location as well
-The custom device (carrier) name just above the clock
And that's really just the tip of the iceberg with what you can do with it
Great advice. Works great. Many thanks.
After using this for a couple of days and getting all the apps where I want them, it would be amazing if we could do the same thing to our contacts instead of being limited to 15.

I have installed CHT and CHTEditor 1.7.11 and love the functionality that it adds, but one thing that I have lost is the ability to change the apps in the Home Tab itself. Does anyone else have this problem?

if you mean you can no longer apply quicklinks, you have probably ticked 'hide empty quicklinks'.
menu - cookies home tab editor - quicklink settings - hide empty quicklinks to off.
has anyone come up with the procedure to change the icons at the bottom of the home screen? - i'd love to put "contacts" where the browser icon is
Launcher pro allows me to place contacts in the dock and change icons if thats what you mean.

Or get LauncherPro. Long press on the (dock) icons and you can do a few things with it. hope I answer your question.
Dont mean to hijack the thread but seeing that the OP's questions been answered. Does anyone know how to get the "+" icon back on the dock?

i was hoping for a solution without having to use LauncherPro - it created issues last time i installed it

Yeah I was wondering this too. Blank literally just blanks it out... I was hoping to put at least a + on it. Maybe someone will create the icon in the launcher pro icon pack? Then again, you'll still have to make it link to something :/
Hi,
I've been with WinMo since 2001 until about a week ago when I switched to andriod. I have many questions and was unsure where to turn to. I will try here. If there is a better place, please let me know.
I have a Desire Z that I got with ATT 3G bands. I have successfully rooted the device, overclocked it, and installed Cyanogen 6.
1) When I hit the power button, I still have to swipe my finger across the screen to unlock. How do I make it so I don't have to do this?
2) I had some difficulty upgrading to Cyanogen 6 and was unable to get 7 to work. IfI want to mess around further with roms, is there some way I can backup EVERYTHING so if I screw up, I can make my phone exactly the way I have it now without a whole lot of work re-installing stuff, etc.?
3) The link to the phone, app, and browser are all stuck on the bottom of the phone. Can I get rid of this?
4) When laying apps out on the home screen, there seems to be some kind of grid that they are locked into that makes it hard to move them exactly where I want them. It will let me lay them so they overlap each other, but not very close to each other. Is there some way to overcome this?
5) I can't seem to arrange apps close to the top of the screen because the garbage can overlay slides down and when I move the app near the top it thinks I am trying to throw it away.
6) Is there an app that will show both the current weather and an icon for the weather conditions in the status bar?
Wow, a lot of questions...
1, Go to Settings->CyanogenMod Settings->Input Settings and select Trackball wake/Trackball Unlock or Menu Unlock and after that you will be able to select Disable Unlock Slider
2, Try Titanium Backup (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup)
3, As far as I know CM6 uses ADW.Launcher as default launcher. You can change it to LauncherPro (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fede.launcher) which is fully customisable
4, There is a grid which can't be changed
5, LauncherPro has the trash icon at the bottom
6, Sorry, I didn't find any

Hello Everyone.
I went and found some of these answers on my own. I also was able to upgrade to CM7.
1) I found an app for it but will try PsHeger's solution.
2) I found that the bootloader/Rom manager do a good job of this, too.
3) I was able to remove it in the app launcher rather than using pro.
4) This absolutely pisses me off. I have a Winmo 6.5 phone that lets me have a nice, organized home screen. I can't believe there isn't a better solution to this. Good lord.
6) Go Weather App does this.
if you set your grid settings to 10x10 rows and columns in launcher pro, you can put the icons and widgets pretty much anywhere.

You can try this, but you will need to buy a pro key for laincherpro to strech the widgets or they will look really stuid

I found that the auto stretch check box pretty much solved the problem with layout.

Hi!
I want Tablet Mode on my Stock Nexus 7, but the Tablet-Mode-Patch is for the oldest Stock ROM. Does it still work with 4.2.1? Cuz I dont like DPI Change...
Its rooted
It seems that the patch still work on 4.2.1 according to the folloing post. (sorry, I'm still on custom rom based on 4.1.2.)

kodiak, how did u deodex it?
You don't need to deodex. Grab the 4.2.1-TabletUI.zip from the following link (Post 912) and apply in recovery. Laucher is messed up but Nova Launcher free works great.

you could also install paranoid android, where you can choose which layout (phone, phablet, tablet...) you wish to use, you can even set layouts for individual apps or app groups (e.g. Launcher + google mail in tablet mode, other apps stay phablet)

I am currently running paranoid androids latet rom, and the main thing I'm struggling with is that the 3 buttons (back, home, and the 3rd button that brings up recent apps) are centered, when I want them on the let side. Does the patch fix that?
Also, is there a way to remove the lock screen tiles? I think I saw other threads saying that this change was related to the lawsuit but didn't find anything that allows you to take those off. At the very least I'd want to change the font if I have to keep it.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

Yes the tablet patch takes the 2 seperate nav bar and task bar and puts them to the bottom like they should be imho.
I dont even run the lock screen so I cant answer that question.

In Paranoid settings, change the UI to Tablet UI (mid) and you'll have the navigation bar buttons to the left hand side like you want.
Also, the way to get rid of the lockscreen tiles is to install Lockscreen Policy.

Just recently flashed Rootbox rom and it's not a bad rom at all. Loads of customization along w/ all bloatware removed although the onscreen nav bar buttons are insanely annoying. The onscreen buttons take the place of your capacitive buttons at the bottom of your phone. Since they take up precious screen real estate I'd love to see them gone but can't seem to find anywhere in settings that allows me to deactivate the nav bar. I'd really appreciate it if somebody could help me solve the troubling issue... Thanks!!

1) Where did you get Rootbox from? I haven't seen it posted on XDA.
2) You should probably ask in the thread where you got the rom.

Solution
I uninstalled Rootbox and instead flashed Triforce which is an alright rom but too similar to Jellybean 4.2.2. I also found out how to remove the onscreen buttons (Hold down power, Disable expanded desktop). Well, I thought I had fixed it until there was no status bar up top (Bar on the top of your screen that includes, Battery, Wifi, Network, Clock). Only way to see that status bar that I had found was to enable expanded desktop which brought back the onscreen buttons...You see my dilemma?
