After ICS 4.0.3 OTA update, I could not unlock the bootloader, following the ICS bootloader guide to the letter. Never could get CWM to stick, deleting boot.p in system folder, no results, therefore, I decided to rollback to HC 3.2.1., w/ Thor CWM 2002, of which was successful, however, I attempted to unlock the bootloader and flash ICS bootloader and the flashtool does not recognize the Tab in APX mode. USB connection is good and is recognized in normal mode. I also attempted to flash custom rom with HC bootloader and the tab still glitches on screen, I restored from backup back to 3.2.1 HC.
Any ideas here? I would like to get the bootloader unlocked so I can take advantage of all the works available. If I could get the APX flash working again, I think I may be able to.

Install your Google Drivers. Google.... USB Drivers Android. Should be first result.
With tablet in APX Mode, goto Windows Device manager, Update the driver for your listed device (probably says unknown). Do it manually, not automatically.
You can try the new afterota tool in the development section, it is suppose to automate all the tasks for you to unlock the bootloader and install recovery.

jazzyjame's tutorial How to rollback from ICS leak
***THIS WILL WIPE YOUR DATA***
What you need:
EUU from Timmydean of 3.2.1 V4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1307539
Your CPUID
Your CPUID was probably changed when you flashed the ICS leak.
Your SBK
How you can find CPUID in the ICS leak
Download and install a terminal emulator from the market and enter in the following.
dmesg > /mnt/external_sd/dmesg.txt
Copy that file to your computer and open it or open it in a text editor on your A500
Look for androidboot.serialno= and the number is listed is your CPUID.
Your SBK can be acquired by using this tool Vache's SBK generator
(Refer to just below Step 3 of Civato's V3BOOTLOADER tutorial on how to validate the CPUID and SBK are correct)
***DO NOT PLUG TABLET INTO COMPUTER UNTIL STEP 8******
1. Download and extract root-3.2.1-V4 from Timmydean
2. Run PBJ20upgrade.exe (right click and run as administrator).
3. Click Ok on Make sure your ICONIA TAB is not connected to a computer. If a "New Hardware Wizard" window appears, click "Cancel".
4. Click Next
5. Let it install the USB drivers
6. Click Next and Go to Settings/Applications/Development on your TAB to enable "USB debugging"
7. It will try and scan for the current image version and new image version, this will take about 5 minutes.
8. A dialogue should have appeared on the screen detailing the manual method for putting the tablet into APX mode. Ignore the dialogue for now and go to step 9
9. Enable debugging on your tablet (Settings>Developer>USB Debugging)
10. Use the USB cable to connect ICONIA TAB to the PC
11. Download and run Blackthund3er's awesome A500 management tool to automatically start your tab in APX mode.
Run the .exe as administrator, and choose to "Enter APX MODE".
When the "Enter APX MODE" button return to its original state, it means the tab should be in APX mode with a black blank screen.
Download Blackthund3er's tool:
Blackthund3er A500 management tool
(thanks civato for letting me know about it)
(POINT OF NO RETURN, CONTINUE FURTHER AND YOU MAY BRICK YOUR TAB)
12. Click Yes on the EUU flashing tool dialogue with the manual instructions to place the HC 3.2.1. image and bootloader back onto your tab.
13. Type in your CPUID in the EUU flashing tool, click next.
THIS WILL WIPE YOUR DATA
This will reset your tablet to a Rooted 3.2.1 with WORKING ACCELEROMETER. Once it boots up you can install Acer Recovery installer from the market and install CWM recovery and restore your ROM or flash a new one.
-----------------------------------------
Once done you should have Rooted Honeycomb back on the tab with the old stock HC bootloader and a functional autorotate.
hi,
i had this issue for a while, the thing now is that my a500 is rooted with the a500 root tool, i have acer recovery installer
image number (Acer_AV041_A500_RV03RC01_WW_GEN1)
Build number (Acer_AV041_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1)
Recovery image set is CWM rev1.3.4 by thor2002ro (gives bootloader verification error) set by acer recovery installer
Bootloader version 0.03.12-ICS
usb isnt recognizing the device, cant use blackthnd3r APX flashtool or a500 manager or any other tool using usb. i tried to check for the usb using usbdeview the only way i can get to the device is with adb using tcp (connect thru wifi)
i think i can get in APX mode thru the a500 root tools cuz i get the black screen and the power light is on. i have my cpuid and SBK and a terminal emu on my a500 too i hope i gave sufficient info on this to help me.
any help? i need to unroot it or fix the bootloader issue or download another rom that could be better than what i got now
I dont know how i got into this, i been into some threads around here but im not that pro with this and i hope i get some help :crying::crying:

how to get to custom recovery mode?
cuz i mentioned that cant flash anything to it, or is there a way i can flash without recovery mode or thru APX using usb?
This is a way via tablet. No pc adb etc. I rushed a bit... any recovery is ok (custom or stock) you enter it via power +vol up (i think) and than flash stock rom

So basicly first download stock rom on your tablet. Rename it to update.Zip enter recovery and wipe all and flash. Aint that hard

First, you cannot install a custom recovery using acer recovery installer with 3.12 bootloader, this is why you are getting boot verification error.
To get a custom recovery on your tab you must flash the unlocked bootloader
To get the unlocked bootloader you must have
a) Your CPUID
b) Drivers - The acer drivers and the usb drivers
c) micro usb cable to connect to your PC
d) a PC running XP, Vista, win7 32bit system or ubuntu
e) Use icsRoot tool to delete the boot.p file (otherwise your custom recovery will be overwritten with the stock recovery (dead android) on reboot.
f) If you are already rooted check this file /system/boot.p - if its not there carry on
Once you have all this you can use the apxFlash tool to flash the bootloader.
You will need a custom rom on your ext sd card. After you've flashed the bootloader, enter recovery immediately, do the wipes and flash your rom. Done.
All download links can be found in the root guide in my sig or civato's guide which is stickied in the Dev forum

I'm not sure you're understanding the process.
The method I posted does not have anything to do with a rom. Its based on using apx mode.
A) Put yr tab in apx mode.
B) connect yr micro usb cable
C) check " safely remove hardware" icon for an "apx device"
If its listed there then follow the directions I posted.
If its not showing then you must install the drivers, as I posted above!! Nothing will work as it should, until you have both sets
of drivers are installed correctly.
If you don't know what apx mode is or how to access it. Pls read the root guide in my sig. The first 2 posts.

Forgive me my lack of knowledge, i am still new to the android-world and rooting and flashing. And i couldn't find a answer to the above mentioned problem (all threads that show up are "doing xyz with fastboot", but none that says what to do if there is no fastboot at all).
So, in the (hopefully rare) situation where I obtain such a device with limited bootloader, is this a problem? Or am i able to install/flash a working bootloader with fastboot?
No bootloader
Hi
Have just purchased advent vega tegra note 7 & it seems to lack a bootloader menu.
Have installed all drivers etc and can Adb reboot bootloader in fastboot mode from PC windows 7, which just turns my tablet off until I manually +volume+power button turn it back on.
Scratching my head as i want to unlock tablet & install a recovery.
Please Help.

Rootjunkys tool is based on kit kat.
Tablet is running android 4.2.2.
Tried half a dozen methods but can't get boot loader to show on screen.
Surely someone must of encountered this problem.
Please HELP.
My phone was updated with OTA to Marshmallow yesterday.
It never booted again. It stays at 'Lenovo' logo.
I can access stock recovery.
The phone was never rooted, so no unlocked boot loader too.
I wish to back up data from internal SD. (I know that one must do back up before any update. Failed.)
For that, I know that I've to at least install a recovery which allows access to internal storage through either MTP or Aroma.
For that I must unlock boot loader.
The first problem is that my laptop is running Windows 10 and it doesn't recognise the phone. Manual installation of driver fails. I've generic ADB drivers.
If one have specific drivers, please share the link here.
I'll like to know about any method to unlock boot loader then, which doesn't include flashing tools. Is fastboot unlock command working for K4 note?
Otherwise, please guide me to some flashing/unlocking method which allows me to save internal data while flashing/unlocking.
if you can go to stock recovery, reset phone and try starting. do u remember usb debugging enabled in phone the u can use adb tools give some try.
this is official usb driver let us know the success
Hi
I have Acer A501 with unlocked bootloader running OMNI 4.4.4 Tegraowners ROM with ROOT
I was probably unlocking way back using blackthund3r APFlash tool with
Bundle 17: A500 and A501 BL v8 / Thor Recovery 1.7.3 ICS Unlocked / Skrilax Bootloader v8 and Thor Recovery 1.7.3 for the A500 and A501
While booting message says:
Code:
Bootloader Version 0.03.11-ICS (Custom Mode)
I wanted to upgrade to 5.1.1 due to more and more aps not working under 4.4, but I', unable to enter recovery mode
Whenever I try to enter it, either by combination of power vol, or by using Quick Reeboot tool from Google play store ( com.antaresone.quickreboot) , tablet starts to go into recovery, shows message :
Code:
Bootloader Version 0.03.11-ICS (Custom Mode)
Booting recovery kernel imageCustom
then goes black screen and starts to load again from beginning but with normal ROM ...and hangs. Only reboot helps ( and tablet then loads as nothing has happened )
I tried to upload recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-a500.img : using same Quick Reeboot i restarted tablet in fastboot mode, but it's only shows message
Code:
Bootloader Version 0.03.11-ICS (Custom Mode): Starting fastboot USB download protocol
and nothing happens, message stays, and if I connect tablet via USB and do adb devices , no device is connected.
I also tried to enter APX mode and load everything from basics using blackthund3r tool , but even though USB driver is installed ( in device manager everything is ok, and it's shows as "Nvidia APX something"), tools claims no proper drivers are installed. Tried to do so under Windows 10 , and also tried to use VirtualBox WIndows 8
I know this device is old , and tegraowners forum is no longer online, but is there any other way to fix the recovery tool so that I can install newer ROM ?

Hi
I think I can't :
I tried to upload recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-a500.img : using same Quick Reeboot i restarted tablet in fastboot mode, but it's only shows message
Code:
Bootloader Version 0.03.11-ICS (Custom Mode): Starting fastboot USB download protocol
and then neither adb devices is not detecting anything ,nor is fastboot command. So i think I cannot get into fastboot but can't be 100% sure

Yes, and root is working (quick reboot app requires root and correctly ask for permissions when rebooting tablet to recovery or fastboot mode)
