[Q] UI games compatibility - Xperia Play General

I'm no developer, so this is probably a n00b'ish question.
The Xperia Play isn't getting ICS mainly due to compatibility issues with existing Xperia Play optimised games.
Does this also mean that future games, developed in conjunction with ICS, may not be compatible with our GB UI Xperia Plays??
(edit: Sorry about wrong forum section, only just realised)

Future games that will be Xperia PLAY optimized will always be compatible with GB. We won't get ICS so there is no point in releasing games optimized for Play that won't run on GB.

Or, they simply stop doing Xperia Optimized games.
We're a single phone.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll stop optimizing games at some point

At least we have apps like gamekeyboard. If this happens, we can make every game XPlay compatible.

that's where gamekeyboard comes in..

Yeah guys but it doesn't support the touchpads, does it?

There is another app I forget the name that does

hey wt did u say Gameloft games working bt the HD gameloft games like assasins creed, Gangster etc dont work i mean not able to see the graphics properly hw can i see them?????
You need to find the right version... btw, that is impossible and will always stay like that even with custom roms because xperia x10 doesn't have a TV Out function...

For all "deadspace" fans!

There is a deadspace game for android available online somewhere..you need froyo and chainfire with the qualcomm driver for it to work...it doesn't work on gingerbread roms btw...I had to revert back to froyo but the game is awesome.
update..after playing it for the past 2 days, the is the best android high quality game i have ever played..u can change customs, upgrade your weapons and every single aspect of the character...i have tried every gameloft game except for the w.o.w clone and i can't tell it has a better story and gameplay than all the gameloft games currently available for android..it almost feels like the console version and i suggest everyone tries it...9/10 so far but some of the controls are iffy
Isn't it a game loft game?

Has anyone found why this game doesn't work on GB ROMs? Or know a workaround? Got it to work on my a100 tab but as noted above, doesn't work on my Epic

it only works for sgs models on froyo and also doesn't work on galaxy nexus (read it in a forum somewhere)..but some samsung phones that can run the game in gingerbread are galaxy ace, gio, mini and the droid charge apparently (can't confirm this phone). I think it has to do the way samsung gingerbread update messed with the gpu (assumption) plus the game was originally made for xperia play...i have tried all chainfire settings and i can't get it to work on my epic on gb and cm7 (it freezes the phone) but works fine in froyo..

I also tried running it using Chainfire3D, didn't work. It loads up about 2 seconds of the intro and just closes. For the time being, I'm enjoying GB more than Froyo so I won't be going back, although I wanted to play this pretty bad :\ sad days...
I got it running on my Iconia Tab tho using Chainfire 3D. The only problem is that it only runs in portrait mode, not landscape. So I'm cut off short from both sides of the gameplay. Turning into corners is a pain since I'm half blind and I can't see anything besides me unless its literally like beside me already :\ its playable, but kind of annoying.

I also tried on gingerbread with no dice awhile ago, that's awesome thought to know that our phones can play console quality games.

Posted a thread about this -- apologies for not finding this one first.
I'm severely bummed, because I love this game, and am only about 1/3 of the way through it. I loathe the idea of having the flash back to Froyo to play it, and am not going to... YET.
I mentioned in my other thread, though, that Shadowgun DOES work on the E4G with GB and Chainfire3D+NVIDIA plug-in. While the game does need the horsepower of the Galaxy S II, it plays well on the E4G, with just a little stuttering here and there as the graphics H/W can't keep up. Hasn't interfered with gameplay at all, though, and it's an AWESOME game!!
EDIT: Haven't tried it with an OC kernels yet. Just flashed Samurai 3.01++, with a turbocharge GPU clock, and support for CPU OC. I'll crank it up and give Shadowgun a try, report back here later.

Is it possible to decompile the deadspace APK and recompile for use with gingerbread?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
This unfortunately does not work on my my Samsung Galaxy S Captivate running 2.3.5 and no way am i going back to froyo! Although i do miss playing it. It crashes at the EA logo and just sends me back to my home screen.
I used it on my TW based EI22 Epic rom. Coupled with chainfire it worked fine on gingerbread. Runs perfect with no additional mods on cm7 now.

I downloaded DeadSpace from SamsungApps for free & it works great on CleanGB MTD.
Just to give feedback, Deadspace runs great on EI22 (CleanGB) and Cyanogen 7 RC0 through nightly 16, to include using Samurai kernel with overclocked GPU. I got mine from the Android Market, I think it was on sale. Great game to show off the Epic's performance and black levels.

[Q] for play owners, should I?

Should I trade my xperia play for a droid 3? Taking into account I don't game as much as I once did

Thing is the droid 3 will be good enough for very light gaming, only difference is you'll have to use onscreen buttons or set up keys to play fpse or snes on the keyboard. The droid3 will be good enough to play games, its just it won't be as good as the play because it wasn't purpose built for that reason. It's all down to personal opinion though, The droid3 is locked down by moto too. So if your a custom kernel user your out of luck. And no ICS update is confirmed either

Yeah my wife has a Droid 3, with no overclocking or custom roms. She does have root though, but even then things still can run sluggish at times because of the bloat that cannot be removed due to certain dependencies. Also her physical keyboard has a software glitch in which it will continue to type a key multiple times in a row.
Other than that, though, the phone is great.

[ Discussion]-The one game you always go back to.

This isn't a ratings topic or a top whatever topic...This is a topic of what game you just can't get enough of. Don't get me wrong there's a lot of great games out there. I'm curious of the diversity of the crowd/ XP community.
For me...its Minecraft. I started playing it on android & after uninstalling to check out other games, I always bring it back. I like how smooth it runs. Its the one game that I have truly never had a problem with...but enough about my choice.

MMMMMMMMMMinecraft!
And Asphalt 7, but since i do development of roms, i mainly change roms so i dont stick with much gamez.
Being a classic gamer, I bought my xperia play mainly for emulators. The first console game I ever owned was Sonic 1 for the master system. Even these can always pick that up and not get bored
I found that the xperia play is great with NES and GBA emulators, maybe I'll try to get a SNES one soon as well.
pokemon FTW !!!
Pokemon and emulator gaming.

My Boy! is my favourite. The UI is tidy and easy to follow. It has the ability to disable linear filtering. Cheat support was included with the latest update. I get full speed in all the games I play without needing to use frameskip.
VGBA has good compatibility but the UI sucks and is battery heavy. Also the developer is employing dirty tricks like preventing people with LP installed from using the app.
GBA.emu you would expect to be good but performs very poorly on the Xperia PLAY and other single core devices. You get lag every 10-15s with frameskip on, and is slow as hell/unplayable with frameskip off.
Gameboid used to be my favourite until My Boy! replaced it. Both Gameboid and My Boy! are similar in the UI and performance. My Boy! is slightly better in both those areas, and seeing as Gameboid is no longer being developed, it made sense to buy My Boy!.
Sonic episodes 1 & 2
I allways go back to them!!
Draw Something... Yea yea yea, make fun of me, I keep uninstalling it because nobody plays it. I always go back to installing it after a few weeks without it because I feel like playing with someone. Nobody plays it anymore, so I uninstall it. Repeat process.

Your favourite hidden Gems

Hi everyone,
I'd like a thread dedicated to the hidden gems for Xperia Play. There has been many topics related to the best optimized games for the xperia play, but we all know them by now. I'm talking about EA, Rockstar, Gameloft or Madfinger games (Asphalt, NFS, Modern Combat, GTA, NOVA, Dead trigger...). Don't get me wrong, some of them are great, but they are blockbusters that everyone knows.
It could be nice to have a listing of people's favourite hidden gems, games that are not famous but worth playing anyway (optimized or not).
Here are some of my favourite ones:
- Pocket Monster: a nice little plateformer game. Very simple, but well optimized and worth a try.
- Obscura: another optimized plateformer game, but really artistic, with really beautiful graphics. A bit short though...
- Rayman Jungle Run: ok, it's neither optimized nor "hidden", but it's a really nice game you can play anywhere anytime. Try it!
Broken Sword Director's Cut: I admit I have not played the android version. I completed the Nintendo DS version. But it's supposed to be the same. And it's a really really good game. A must play (not optimized, but no need to be).
- Critical Strike: The android's version of counter strike. If you like multiplayer FPS, the game is for you. Optimized for our phone, and free, what could you possibly ask more?
That's all for now. What are yours?
Aeon Avenger: A RPG game by Kemco
Dead On Arrival: A shooting game like SAS: Zombie Assault 3 if you have ever played it.
Thats all I know so far
