Evo Shift and Arduino (or any micro-controller) - EVO Shift 4G General

My boss surprised me at work a few weeks ago with an Arduino board, and needless to say, I have fallen in love with its ease of use, and overal possibilities. Though I am not yet skilled enough to share anything that I have built, I was wondering if anyone in the shift community has done anything interesting with their shift and an Arduino. If so, please share, I would love to see (as soon as I come up with something worth sharing, I will do so also).

What is arduino? I've never heard of it

Its a popular micro controller for quick prototyping and/or hobbiests.

As far as the topic is concerned, ive done some programming of similar micro processors in college. Nothing directlly using my phone though

Exactly as stated above, it is a microcontroller for those of us lacking a proper education in EE. Do a search on youtube for some arduino project examples, then, after falling in love, check out how cheap they are, clean yourself up, and enjoy.

With the availability of the HTC 7 Pro release RUU, I hope someone has plans to try to get it ported to work on the Evo.
Anyone here looking into it? I'd donate to the cause.

I believe it's more of a hardware solution to a software that doesn't support DRM. The snapdragons that I believe you are referencing have DRM built in to them, and thats why netflix is supporting them.
I wouldn't mind even a really crappy port, WP7 would be cool to test drive for a few days. I couldn't ever imagine buying one, unless it had killer specs and Android was already ported over it!
Many reasons to be able to run WP7, chief amongst them for me are XBox Live games and integration, NetFlix, Zune, etc.. Plus I think the interface is quite sleek.
It would simply be awesome to be able to run both OS's off of one phone. If the probability to port Android over to a WP7 is more likely, then I will most probably buy a WP7 phone next.
Ceger
is the hardware even similar?? the 7 Pro also being a CDMA phone from HTC doesn't mean a port is possible...

I believe the hardware is similar just like hd2 is VERY similar to evo.
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
I believe this would be worth it. as long as the port isn't hardware restricted. I agree the UI is very sleek as well and I would donate a Biggie Size Big Mac Meal from McDonalds. Would be very fun to test drive. maybe even an option as a dual-boot.

So in speech class I did a speech on rooting an evo

Wow. I tried to dumb it down but when I lost everyone two minutes in I just let go... turns out there's really no simple way to explain the toast method command by command in under ten minutes. After the first two minutes I stopped dumbing it down and I don't think I've ever seen people so confused before. So much for my demonstration speech. The 20 powerpoints of terminal commands probably didn't help...

Good job! I can relate to you "losing" everyone in the class. The other day we had some down time at work so I hopped on XDA. Of course the different color computer screen caught a few of my coworkers attention. Luckily they were android users, though I would hate to have their phones (Hero, My Tough 3G) lol. Anyway, long story short I had to explain what XDA was and why it existed. Why/How to root, and all that good stuff. By the end of my explanation most were lost (It attracted half the room). I didnt talk for more than 5 minutes, so I can imagine what the face looked like on your classmates! lol The guy with the Hero wrote down XDA and a few threads I showed him on making his Hero better. Gonna be interesting to see what he did, if anything, over the weekend. I may have a side job

[Bounty] $50 for a wifi calling echo fix

Straight up. I am currently using ZenDroid 2.1.1, but have encountered this problem on several roms and so have others. The person on the other side gets a horrible echo. I just moved to a house where my reception is horrible, and I need this to work properly. My wife and I both have vibrants.
The bottom line - be the first to deliver to me a non echoing, functional t-mobile wifi calling app for froyo, and I Paypal you $50. I prefer to have it work on zen droid, but if there is no other way, I will change to another froyo rom to have this work properly. I just have to confirm it has fixed my problems before payment, and $50 is yours. No BS.
Anyone up to the challenge?

Yeah I saw it, what I am looking for now is actually to get the app fixed , if someone has the time...
Everything he said makes sense, and I will have to try the volume thing to see how it works. I posted this before I saw what he said on the ZenDroid thread.
As far as the incentive, I think it is a good idea. I am totally not trying to be a smartass, when I say it would not be the first time something unfixable on this phone was fixed by some great minds on this forum. I'm trying to motivate someone to try and overcome a difficult, perhaps insurmountable obstacle.

NP, and, certainly not trying to push. I am not an EDT fanboy, but I have tried at least 8-10 2.3.4-2.3.5 ROMs, just about giving up, and saying Nexus Prime is prolly less than 2 months away. On a final whim I tried Asgard, and with this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239713
despite myself, I actually have working GPS that is equal to or better than any FroYo ROM I have used. I am on my 3rd replacement Vib. and the first 2 sucked wind as far as GPS went, so I KNOW bad GPS. I saw another poster (and I should have bookmarked the quote) say something to the effect that anything that could possibly be a GB bug he has managed to experience on his Vib. +1... The problem is that no 2 phones are the same, so YMMV, but I am now, albeit reluctantly, a believer that GB can have awesome GPS. Just my 4 cents.
I use my gps on a daily basis as a must for my business and im on miui revamped and have been for a couple months..these guys have got the gps goin on,its fast, accurate and i haven't driven off a cliff or into the ocean yet.
So if your sticking with froyo for that reason....your missing out.
Good luck with your wifi calling endeavour

Thanks nick. Is a form of wifi calling working on miui? Did not think it was, guess its the only thing keeping me off it now. Things changed for me moving to the new place, but after a few hiccups, the studio should be at 100% in about two weeks. Its always something, right?
I would have tried your rom earlier, but I just lack the time to do the switching around nowadays. Had to go back to froyo and stay for awhile.

For sure, man, i see that so far. Everyone contributes to each other which is awesome. i hope to be like that one day.
One quick question, since this forum's dev portal is split in 2 (GSM / CDMA) Nexus S 's, i've seen that the one for the 4g just isn't too active. Do the ones for the regular non-sprint ones work for the 4g version?

BOUNTY!!! 4G for Cyanogenmod 7.

Since Cyanogenmod 7.2 is nearing its completion. I recommend we put up a bounty to get 4g working. This will probably be an unofficial build of the official build if that makes sense. Since 4g will not be supported. I am will to start off with $25.00. I would pledge more but I am hurting financially. I believe putting up a bounty is fair because not everybody can enjoy 4g coverage.

As Decad3nce said earlier, this isn't the way to go about it. In the past our team of developers had said that WiMax is the furthest thing on their priority list for a reason, being that it is going to be hellish to do, just like MTD was hellish to do but MTD benefited us in a longer term than many understand now.
That being said you can't just buy your developers so they've an entitlement to get something done, if they decide to work on it they do, if not oh well. Perhaps you yourself can look into the issue and attempt it. And see exactly what it is which is making the topic of 4G such a disliked one. I don't mean to be rude but if it was really easy, or simple because another device has it, it would have been done already, it's been looked at forever, doesn't mean it'll happen. The EVO 4G's instance of it and ours are in no way the same story.

I wonder if the reversed engineered Linux driver for the Samsung CMC-730 chip called Madwimax will work for the Epic since it uses the CMC-730 Wimax chip? I know I saw some video of a guy running a "demo" of Madwimax on an Android 3.0 tab using a usb modem connected to the tab. Could it be modified to run on the Epic? Because they actually worked on it... in no way was that a hit to the devs of epic cm7!!!! Trust me I know how tough it is to get it working. One of my friends worked on the evo cm7 and he said it was one of the most difficult things he has ever worked on... they spent a lot of time trying to get 4g working... its not an easy task and with wimax being a dying bread probably not worth their effort! I would love to see cm7 with 4g but it probably won't happen because it is more effort than it is worth!

Cool thanks. I hope this info gets to the right people. Since the Samsung Wimax driver source has already has been reversed engineered by Madwimax already, that hopefully will save time for the CM dev crew to figure it out. I am no developer so I know absolutely zero if it'll work or not. I just happened to stumble on this video a couple months back when I did a search for wimax and tablet on youtube while I was researching a tablet purchase for Black Friday. Oh the random things you find while just surfing.

This seems pretty obvious so I am sure you guys have thought about it ... but doesn't the Nexus S 4G have Wimax working in CM7? Doesn't it and our phones have virtually identical hardware? Is there a reason that you guys couldn't do whatever those guys did?
