I'm looking forward to your findings.
Hopefully it will work in different situations, only had the chance of testing and debugging it on my tablet.

will this work on my PB Liberty Tab (G100W) running HC 3.0.1?
my android version is 3.0.1
and build Number is PB_G100_1.013.02_EMEA_GENS

great share!

yes, with this you can install recoveries, root your tablet, and even return to stock through the update.zip method for eg. selling your tablet !

If this a500 version works fine for everybody, i intend to make a a501 version of it. I advice not to use it on A501 because on ics it seems that the a501 has different bootloaders.

I want actually to install ICS Custom/stock rom with ICS bootloader,
Could you tell me the steps to follow,
Once I install ICS bootloader while I am on HC stock, then I cant boot, so should I flash a ICS rom from CWM immedietly after installing ICS bootloader? or I have to install ICS stock Rom first then ICS bootloader??

1) best to put the ota update zip on the root of your sdcard
2) boot your tablet with vol min pressed until you see recovery image loading
3) then you will end up or in the actual recovery you installed or it will begin flashing the ota ics
4) when you are on ics and you have enabled usb debugging, you can then flash the matching kernel for the ota you had installed (eg version 1.031)
(without the correct kernel on ics, certain recoveries wont work)
5) after reboot, flash recovery and bootloader again
6) remove the sdcard from your tablet, remove the update.zip and put for example flexreaper or any other cwm rom on it. put sdcard back in your tablet.
7) reboot your tablet into the recovery and flash your custom rom you put on your sdcard in the previous step, and your good to go.
you should have done the update.zip method in the first place, or go to ics through the official update system.

Many thanks for the Guide,
I will try as guided...
for Packard bell, official ICS updates are not rolled out yet...
only one doubt in the item 1 you mentioned is internal SD or external SD??
thanks again

Ok I tested it , my conclusions:
-Tablet info section= 10/10
Very easy getting your cpuid and SBK , one click , nice.
-Back to stock= 8/10
I get it but I do hope the new users get how it works so maybe more info with link to full packets thread and link to decrypter thread .
-HC= 9/10
In browse , I would remove the custom bootloader , for HC you only got the A501 and A500 bootloader , for some it would seem that they can flash a custom HC bootloader like on ICS. (My opinion , thinking on newbies)
-ICS=10/10
Everyhting what you need is there.
-Kernel and root = 7/10
Tricky stuff here , maybe better to provide the full stock kernels also (no sys rw hack)
Also I would make clear that only installing the root doesn't give you system/rw acces without installing the hacked kernels.
And make clear that these are not tweaked or OC kernels.
(you are free to add kernels from my thread and if you need a combination just pm me)
-extra stuff =10/10
Overall 9/10 , I flashed a few recovery's and bootloaders using the pre build in packages and using browse and picking my own stuff , really nice and easy !
Maybe a idea for later and do the same as my m8 blackthun3der and allow prebuild packages (.a500apx).
For the A501 , if you download the flash tool from my guide you will find the bootloaders for the A501 in there , if you can't find them let me know !
edit
One question , did you use the correct bootloader to go into apx because for ICS V6 it is a different one then to use when you install HC bootloader. (reason)
Download my tool package from the guide and look for
dlmodeblhc.bin = for a500 getting into apx when installing HC bootloader
dlmodeblhc501.bin = for A501 getting into apx when installing HC bootloader
dlmodeblics.bin = for a500 getting into apx when installing V6
dlmodeblics501.bin = for a501 getting into apx when installing V6
and then you got the HC bootloaders
hcbootloadera500.bin
hcbootloadera501.bin
And ICS bootloaders
ics_boot_unlk_V6_500.bin
ics_boot_unlk_V6_501.bin

Works perfect for me! Thanks! Makes things a lot easier

i meant external sd
I just went back to full stock hc 3.01 on my g100w, stock bootloader and stock recovery, through the update zip method. (one ive downloaded from vache's romlist), i enabled usb debugging on that system and imediatly flashed ics bootloader 3.14.6 + thor recovery v1.72 from the "ics" tab on my program.
Rebooted the tablet afterwords and i could not boot into honeycomb like you say. Then i removed the external SD card from the tablet and put ota ics version 1.031 on it, put it back in the tablet and rebooted the tablet with vol min pressed.
Thors recovery came up, and i did :
1) "choose zip from SD card"
2) in the next menu i choose "update.zip"
3) in the next menu i choose "yes install update.zip"
4) it starts flashing the official ota ics
5) after flashing go to "wipe menu" and do : "wipe data" , "wipe cache" and "wipe dalvik"
6) after that go to "power menu" and reboot your tablet
7) go through the initial android setup (choose wife, choose language etc)
8) enable usb debugging in your android settings (its in the "options for devellopers" section, just above "about tablet"
9) fire up afterota v1.00
10) go to the "kernels and root" tab
11) if you installed ota ics v1.031 then install the corresponding patched kernel, in case of v1.033 choose the other one etc. and start flashing the kernel.
12) if kernel flash is done, shutdown and reboot your tablet into android
13) once you see the android lockscreen press "reconnect tablet" on Afterota (on "tablet info" tab)
14) go to the "kernels and root" tab in After ota and press the "copy" button to copy the cwm root package to the internal sdcard of your tablet. If its done your tablet will automaticly reboot. If you see the android lockscreen proceed to the next step
15) press reconnect tablet in Afterota, if connected proceed to next step
16) go to the "ics" tab in Afterota and flash your recovery of choice again, the only difference between "install a500" and "install g100w" buttons is the bootloader logo, so its not a desaster if you think you've hit the wrong button. If see pass on the screen of your tablet proceed to next step.
17) shutdown and powerup your tablet holding the vol min button pressed to get to the recovery, go to "install from zip file", "choose zip from internal storage", choose "cwm_hc_ics_root.zip", choose "yes install ..", go back, "power menu", "reboot" and let the tablet boot until you see android lockscreen.
18) now in Afterota, reconnect tablet, go to the "extras" tab, and "remove recovery killer script"
Tadaaaaaaa : fully rooted ics + custom bootload + recovery

You have some really good tips here, i'll try to import them into the program in the next release. Thank you very much for reviewing the program !

Many thanks again mate,
You have already typed a lot for me, sorry to bother again,
OTA HC 3.0.1 was rooted before you flash ICS bootloader from your program??
If I need only a working ICS rom on my Tab, not rooted no CWM, can I stop at the instruction no.6

A500 / A501 bootloaders have tiny difference (aside from the bootlogo, which I changed back to "green Acer"). I shall probably make V7 universal.
However, can you update the tool packages not to flash V3 - it doesn't allow custom BL updates via. CWM (full support for that is in V5 via both CWM and fastboot).

[Q] Go to stock to get OTA ICS

I was just wondering if someone could point me to what I need to go back to stock and get OTA updates, I live in the US and would like to know which file to download, or does it matter? Do I need the full package? and which honeycomb version should I do? and which file under the version of Honeycomb should I get? or does it matter? Sorry about being n00bish I just would like to get back to stock so I can start over with this thing and get the info down about it.
Hi,
I've been using AfterOTA to go back to stock. It's very easy. I used version 1.01 which isn't available now but 1.07 should still be able to do the same thing.
Which file you use is important as they are geared for different regions of the world. A lot of the files from the Full Package thread aren't there anymore so your choices are limited. It needs to be a full package though, it should be over 300MB. An update won't work.
Basically, you use AfterOTA to install the bootloader and recovery from it's stock tab. Have the update.zip file on the root of your SD card (some of them need to be decrypted). After the tool installs the stock recovery boot by holding down the left or top volume key. That will automatically install whatever update is on the card. Version 1.01 had separate ICS and HC bootloaders I'm not sure how 1.07 is set up. Then just let the update process happen.
I doubt that you'll find anything earlier than HC 3.2 for your (our) region. If you just want a stock ICS tab you could just use that update.zip and skip HC entirely.
Good Luck
Can you point me to the stock ICS zip we would use for our US tabets? I found a page on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878 but they dont have an ICS Full Package and I don't know which HC 3.2 one to use. it says to look at my current version but I am on a flexreaper ROM. I want to remove the recovery and bootloader and go completely stock and upgrade to OTA ICS so I can then run After OTA to get a fresh new recovery and ICS bootloader. thanks for your help.
My stock 1.104.02_COM_GEN1 OTA'd to 1.033.00_PA_CUS1.
From Vache's thread the Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2 file will update to 1.033.00_PA_CUS1. I don't think this file needs to be decrypted.
1. Download that file. Put the update.zip file on the root of your SD card.
2. In AfterOTA on the stock tab choose A50x. This should install the HC bootloader and standard recovery.
3. Disconnect the tablet. Power down the tablet. Reboot by holding the left or top volume key while pushing the power button. This should start installing the update.zip on the card. If you wind up in CWM then AfterOTA didn't work and you'll need to downgrade.
4. Try to boot after the update. It will probably get stuck at the logo. If it does you'll need to hard reset (bottom volume key + power + slide rotation locker). It takes a while for the first boot and it might crash once while setting everything up.
5. You should be in HC 3.2 from here you can OTA all the way to ICS. You'll need to install the ACER update enhancer from the market b4 it will see the ICS update.
I hope this works for you.
CWM Recovery booted, instead of flashing the update.zip, How do I do it now?
I don't know why AfterOTA isn't working for you. I really thought it would. Oh well, Gersma says it's only for OTA. There are other people who probably know better, but I think you're going to have to get a stock bootloader on there before you can use any of those files. My guess its that you'll need to follow the downgrade guide. Search on "rollback".
I hope you find a better solution, but the rollback isn't that hard.
Good luck.
what if I apply the update.zip from CWM using the "apply update from sd card"? would that just force the up date and wipe everything with the stock bootloader and ROM that is in the update.zip?
I don't think that file will work from CWM. Maybe one of the stock ICS leaks would work. If you can load one from CWM it can load the BL and it will replace the recovery when it reboots. Then you should be able to use AfterOTA to return to stock and upgrade through the OTA's.

Confuse about unlocking bootloader

I bought this tablet and I want to install a custom rom. I am not interested in dual booting. I found a thread titled
"[GUIDE]A500/501/G100W-Installing ICS V8 UNL-BL & CWM Or back to HC BL(24-6-2012) "
Information there is a little confusing to me. On my A200, the steps were simple, unlock boot loader, install CWM and then root/install rom. Then I was done. Seems like I have to do more steps on theA500, which I don't mind I just want to do it right. Is it my understanding that the thread is for dual booting, it also talks about CPU ID.
I found another thread that talks about Afterota v1.09, do I only need to just do this for what I want to do or do I need to do more? Why would I need to install a ICS bootloader, I have ICS now, stock, doesn't it already have it? I tried looking at the Q/A but I just ended up more confuse.
Could someone just give point me in the right direction so I can go about unlocking bootloader and installing CWM so I can install a custom rom.
I have Android 4.0.3 Kernel Version 2.6.39.4+ Stock
Side question, my unit is a 16gb model but its only reading about 12.71gb, does anyone know why?
A500 works differently: the stock ICS BL is locked and cannot be unlocked from fastboot. What we can do however, is to flash custom BL, since we know the device "Secure Boot Key". In general the term "ICS BL" means my patched BL, which you can find in my signature. There is a bunch of guides to get it flashed on the forum, and blackthunder made a tool to simplify the process.

Alright, so I do not need to do
Option 1 use Afterota for A500/G100W IF YOU ARE ON OTA ICS and follow this thread
or
Option 2 , keep reading.... don't be a chicken , just do it !!.
then I just need to use blackthun3r tool? I tried it but when I launch A500APXFLASH.EXE it ask me for a SBK and the guide said this "the v0.4 APX flash tool will give your SBK automaticly !!" but its blank it has not given me SBK automatically. So I was directed to this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810618
which has the "SBCalc "
which then directed me to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1624645
which reads
GET ME MY CPUID!!!
There are 2 different cpuid
ICS CPUID has only 13 digits/characters and is your "serial no." as reported in settings, on your sdcard cover and on the box
we are only interested in the 15 digit HC CPUID this can only be got:
(1) From a PC using Blackthund3rs A500 manager
(2) From your device using Terminal Emulator App
(3) From USBDeview must have previously used the Tab under HC with the PC you're using
(4) From a uid.txt in any Honeycomb-cwm backup in external_sd/clockworkmod/backup/"your_HC_backup" folder
(5) From adb devices if you're running honeycomb
(6) From cwm 1.7.2 via on screen display and a text file - great if you are on ICS already
(7) Master_Ellis has posted that he found the HC cpuid in /sys/firmware/fuse/acer_cpuid - add a zero to the front!!!
please if anyone uses this let us know if this is correct!!!
thanks Master for the heads Up!!!
(8) Gersma's most excellent OTA Toolmakes most of this thread obsolete!!!! Thankyou Gersma for all you've done OTA Tool is all anyone ever needs....
Features :
I don't get it though, I thought you said all I needed was the blackthund3r apx flash utility. I'm really confuse, can you specify what I need to do?
I went back to the original thread where the blackthund3r flash tool is and it clearly says
"3-When it askes for your SBK you need to type it in , the v0.4 APX flash tool will give your SBK automaticly !!"
But I do not see the SBK come up automatically. Man all I want is to be able to flash roms ;/ Can you specify what I need to do please I do not want to jump the gun here and brick my device. I see two files in the zip file, a500 Manager v1.0.2 and Apx Flash Utility v0.4
Alright I figured out what I was missing and manage to go through the whole process easily. I have Apex now but how do I install CWM or TWRP? WHen I go into recovery I get a dead android.
Lots of trials and errors lol so I figured out Recovery only works the first time, is there any way to have CWM on there permanently?
Update
Recovery always works now, wasn't sure if that was a glitch or what. Anyways, thanks Skrilax, that little piece was enough for me to get going. I understood the guide once I knew what I needed which required me reading a few threads. Guide kinda needs to be tweaked a little.

Recovery not sticking is due to having a stock rom. Rooting with ICS Root 7.1.1 stops this
Sent from my Iconia A500 using Tapatalk 2
Just noting: stock recovery won't work, and if you ever applied OTA, booting Android will overwrite recovery, unless you remove the updater. And for the guides, all will work, some are more automated, some less.

How to install any of the JB rom's?

A very simple question, how to install any of the JB roms? Just because i can't find any good simple guide. And i am not familiar with this device, i know how to flash with CWM and such. (I have experience with other devices) But i see that there is someting with a CPUID and a SBK or something? Please explain how to install those roms.
I did some research and is it sufficient to install the acer recovery app to get cwm on your tablet, (3.x) and then install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1930672 or this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1935582
WITHOUT patching the unlocked ICS bootloader?
It's important to get your CPUID # and save it on .txt file on PC somewhere.
ALL ICS + JB Roms have Different Bootloader then older HC.
It is best to go to to Unlocked ICS Bootloader. Do lots of reading.
A great method to use is APX, then later once on you can change your Recovery to CWM, TWRP, etc
But either way you'll Need your CPUID.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425
Run a SBK Generator, enter in your CPUID #, and then Get your own SBK Code.
Later when using APX, enter your info.

Oke, so i should use that blackthunder program and get my cpuid and sbk. then i can use that program to flash my tab in APX mode? And is it dangerous to flash the bootloader? i mean, if your bootloader gets stuck on a galaxy tab or something it needs to be repaired.
I'm trying to explain it the best way I know (might be slightly Politically incorrect with terms) TRY to get the Knowldege as a whole...
-"ICS Unlocked Bootloader 0.03.14-MUL" is for Acer A500 Tablet (it's custom for our tab's) I would NEVER put another Tab's "Bootloader" on our tab.
- I think you meant Flashing another BASED ROM on tab...That is OK.
*** Example Thor2002 HC 14.2 is based on ASUS's ROM, but has CODE for ACER...
*** All Acer A500 JB ROM's (will be BASED on a LEAK from another source (AOKP, ACER A700 ?), then DEV adds/changes in some Acer A500 code to make them work)
-Fact (to my knowledge) : ACER A500 has not had a JB Leak, cus they have never Made a JB ROM
-Maybe a DEV would Use a ACER A200, A501, A700, etc ROM (which sounds more close to ours) then they USE it's JB (if there is a LEAK'd ROM out)
-Dev has to take into Consideration that Bigger ACER ROMS, Might not have Tegra 2 (Dual Core 1000 Mhz stuff) (One Had Tegra 3, some have 1200 Mhz (more Mhz probably doesn't matter) A501 has 3G (so DEV would make Custom ROM with only Wi-Fi , Rip out 3G stuff or change Code lines)
Back to your Question :
1a. I already have flashed a few of the JB roms on Acer a500 and can Flash to Any other JB or ICS Roms (Without changing BOOTLOADER)

2. If you Start with any ICS, or JB ROM (the DEV had removed bootloader.blob + Recovery) so you can keep your Bootloader, and Recovery in tack.
3. if you are 100% STOCK Acer A500 ROM ({NO ROOT SuperSU or Superuser}, Stock Bootloader (which is LOCKED), Stock Recovery (can't change, or flash ROM's)

4b.***(NOW, we have to change out bootloaders to goto to ICS (for the most part) or JB {Exception example: Lightspeed 4.8 is ICS ROM (that will accept older HC Bootloader, I'm sure few others ICS have it}

I got the bootloader but what now?

1b. I only changed to my ICS Unlocked Bootloader ONCE. Never have to change again, (Unless I want to goto a HC ROM -then I would have to change to older HC Unlocked bootloader)

I installed the unlocked bootloader and wanted to load up the recovery, but it gives a yellow exclamation sign in an android logo. Also when i try to go into recovery mode with a500manager it loads up Honeycomb. When i check my bootloader it is the unlocked CZ bootloader V8. Also i can't enter fastboot with a500 manager. It seems that i do not have a recovery. So i downloaded the acer recovery installer but it requiers root wich i don't have. i already tried different bootloaders like the standard revcovery and the thor 1.7.3 but nothing works. When i load up the tab there is something like CZ Skrillax bootloader v8 Loading primary kernel image.
Do you know why i can't enter recovery?
P.S sorry for bad english.

How did you try to enter recovery? "CZ Skrillax bootloader v8 Loading primary kernel image" indicates that you push just the power button. That commands the tablet to boot to whatever OS you have installed. You should hold volume down then push power until the device vibrates. Then you release power while holding still volume -. After a second or two, the "CZ Bootloader V8" would appear along with "loading recovery" on the second line. Then release volume.
Another way, and I've been able to replicate this numerous times on mine, is while the screen is showing "loading primary kernel image" to tap power and release it quickly. MIne would go into recovery that way.

The original question from you was how to install JB Roms. But you keep insisting on installing ICS stock (OTA). What are you really trying to do? I'd suggest that you help yourself by reading the relevant threads in here first before asking for more help. For example, are you aware that mixing unadulterated ICS stock with V8 is a no-no?

Sorry for late response.
I updated the tab with OTA ics, and used the blackthundr program to root, then i saw a option to remove the recovery protection. So i used that, and reflashed the unlocked bootloader. Everything worked! I could boot into recovery and installed JB. Everything's fine now. Thx for advice!

So you can boot into the OS OK??
Did you root it?
You may have to take an OTA or update.zip to 3.1 first and flash the v8 from that as I'm unsure it will work from 3.0.1
but after that i couldn't flash any ics rom or ics bootloader

go to the root guide in my sig and Make absolutely certain you do the first 4 steps in that guide.
d/l the latest apx Flash manager tool v 1.0.2 and use the bundle market in it to install bundle #17
OR
use civato's nvflash package instead as this requires your tab to be in apx mode (black screen/pwr lite on) to work AND will give you a more specific error if it fails.
Once the flash is complete BOOT STRAIGHT TO CWM and flash your cm10.1 rom
THEN Do a factory/data reset and enable wipe of /data/ media (in mounts/storage menu) wipe cache and dalvik cache too. Reboot to cm 10.1!!!
Please do all the steps in the order they are given -
If "it doesn't work" we will need you to tell us what is or isn't happening and where in the process it fails!!!
Good luck
Thank you for reply

"USB drivers from the Android SDK" on step 1 maybe that is what I need
So I'll give it a try and tell you what happens.
And again thank you for your help.
Well..
I followed your root guide and used Civato's nvflash package, lots of things happened.
file no 1 is the first result
then file no 2 , here is where I get stuck in apx mode again !!
errors i get :
error formating partition 4
error formating partition 6
The thing is, not every time I try to recover my tab it works
I succeed only once of every 15 tries to recover my tab.
so maybe some partitions are messed up or something.
One time, I tried to flash Civato's nvflash package again , and after few times the bootloader was flashed correctly, but the recovery wasn't !!
So, I tried to use fastboot to flash the recovery ... and it went O.K
After that, I restarted to recovery, formated data (factory reset) , cache , delvik cash, flashed the rom, rebooted the tab ...... but nothing happened !!
and i'm stuck here
I've done lots of searching around the forums and most of them recommend BabSector or tdv4_rollback_rom or EUUs .
only EUUs are working, and even that would work one time of around 10 to 20 tries.
do i have to flash the primery kernel via fastboot , and if so, how to get the kernel from the rom?
thanks in advance

Boot to fastboot mode
Fastboot erase userdata, cache, system and flexrom - use separate command for each partition, note any write errors and post back.
Fire up apxflash tool....you MUST dump, save then use your tabs BCT when u get to that window - this should repair the bct error shown in the 2nd text file.
Also tick "show nvflash commands " this will show any read/write or partition errors..
If you get partition errors run babsector (d/l in the root guide) and follow the steps I posted there.
Boot directly to recovery and try flashing a rom again
I've done lots of searching around the forums and most of them recommend BabSector or tdv4_rollback_rom or EUUs .

No u shouldn't have to flash a kernel its included in the rom.
A full and complete erase is required first
(If there are errors here like can't read/write or bad data....your tab is toast) if not,
The bct error must be repaired next, else your tab won't flash any rom at all, even if the tool says PASS
Then reset your partitions with babsector.far
(Any errors like those listed above....your tab is toast)
With all the errors you're having its pointing to a faulty chip, flashing should not be this problematic.
Be sure to follow the direct order of repair....otherwise you'll be compounding errors

ok lets start with the bootloader and why we need it...
On most android devices your first step to flashing a custom rom is to root so you can flash a custom recovery....
With our Acer Tabs since HC 3.2 the bootloader is locked...meaning even having root access did not give us the ability to 'flash' a custom recovery - its just not possible....the only way to do it is with the "patched" bootloader - I don't know how the magic works, but the devs managed to find a way to 'trick' the system into allowing their version of "patched bootloader" to be installed which would allow the flashing of a custom recovery....and there is a very specific way of getting this patched or unlocked bootloader onto your tab....this is with a program called "nvFlash" which runs via "apx mode" or "acer download mode" using our tabs unique ID, the cpuid.....to make it even easier The devs created a "package" which will nvFlash the patched bootloader AND a custom recovery all in one go!! Once we'd done that all we needed to do was to boot straight to recovery and flash our desired ICS or JB rom!!!
In the beginning, way back in the day....some folks weren't at all comfortable going to these lengths just to have a custom rom, so some of the rom cooks gave us the choice to upgrade to the patched bootloader or to stick with the HC bootloader, by flashing a custom HC kernel after the bootloader flash....this is what you were alluding to earlier??
Most roms now only work with the patched bootloader i.e. skrilax_cz 3.14 MUL -v8
keep in mind these are ICS and JB roms...
I hope that provides a bit more understanding on the bootloader thing and why we need it...
Now back to your original problem, not sure why you cannot flash a JB rom, have you tried it again??? I just cannot think of anything that would prevent you from flashing anything except an HC Rom - You might wanna ask the question in the JB rom thread...there might have been specific steps you needed to take to downgrade from 4.2 (can't think what though) or others may have posted similar problems...sorry couldnt help you out ....
...but let us know how you get on, good luck!!
Finally I have moved from HC to JB and that is how :
- ubdating the bootloader from v8 to v9
- nothing changed trying to flash any rom I already have
- then and I don't know why I download an Android 4.3.1 from TegraOwners forums [WIP]A500/A501 JB-MR2(4.3.1) - V8t6

[Q] Got Stuck in installing Roms - Recovery Error

hi everyone
i'm explaining the problem that's getting me crazy!
I've got an a500 tab. it was HoneyComb 3.1 at first, I downloaded ICS 4.0.3 Stock Rom and installed it via SD Card, Power + Vol- button.
i've been using it a few monthes now i want to use a custom rom like tegraowners JB.
my current version of rom (ICS 4.03) can't be rooted with ICS Root for a500 because it's version is'nt supported.
so i decided to install a 3.1 HC Stock rom, root it and use custom roms.
i downloaded 3.1 stock rom, named it update.zip and copied it on a sd card.
inserted SD card in tab and turned it on with Power + Vol-. here is the problem!
first i see recovery mode loading then an android logo with a (!) sign on it.
cdn.gooyait.com/uploads/android-recovery-mode-600x276.jpg
and tab get's restarted...
any idea?
I don't know maybe i've downloaded the wrong rom.
if yes please link to the correct rom for thei version:
Kernel Version:

Image Version:
Acer_AV041_A500_RV21RB01_WW_GEN1

Stock recovery probably isn't designed to flash anything other than ICS. (Or it can't go backwards?). As for rooting, the blackthud3r ICS root tool oughta get ya done. (There are 2 methods, search and find one. For your case I recommend number 2)
[Anyway, don't worry about rooting the stock ROM, on an A500 this doesn't help you get jellybean.]<- MAY BE WRONG. In order to install a custom ROM, you must install a custom bootloader and recovery. Here is a guidehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425 Once you've gotten through that(and assuming you haven't died of heart attack), you can install a custom ROM. Just follow the instructions on said ROM's thread. My favorite(albeit, a bit buggy) one is here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239476&highlight=jellybean+rom&nocache=1. Good luck!:good:
EDIT:
You need a CPUID to flash your bootloader. I don't know if you need root to get that.
Install a custom bootloader
You shold read about custom bootloader, it isnt that difficult, you get root of your iconia, download a flex software it automaticly downloads the latest recovery I recommend TWRP, and from ther you could touch the option install and select you zip file
