Say i'm dual booting on my sd card cm7 and cm9 and I want to save a file to open up on my alternate boot cm9 but i'm in my primary sd boot (cm7).
Is there anyway to do this easily without messing with emmc or having to reload or do anything extra (such as usb host mode)?
thanks

Don't both cm7 and cm9 share the same sdcard space? They do on mine. Just save it to sdcard, boot to the other system and the file should still be on sdcard. Or you could save it to emmc media and both systems see that also.

I save files that I share on my sdcard to the emmc so that I can use them when I pop the card out.
Create a folder on sdcard (mine is 'dumped'). Put any and everything in there you feel you'l lever need to run whatever os you have (mine is racks triple boot). Use Imager to back up your card image to computer. You'll have access to everything on card whatever you boot into, and a spare to reinstate anything on your card. Like a computer back up, this just makes good sense.

I have the MyTouch 3G with the Cyanogen Recover 1.4.
I had the latest CyanogenMod 4.2.7 with no problems. I tried applying the Enoch theme 1.4.7 and it put my phone in a boot loop. I tried factory wiping. I don't have access to any of the cyanogenmod zip files on my SD card because the Cyanogen Updater doesn't put it on the root directory of the SD.
So is there a way to fix this? Get back to any build of the phone to work? Can I access the SD card if I connect it via USB to my PC? PLEASE HELP!!!!

i don t know if I undersoot you fully.BUT>>>> sometimes the SD card plays crazy,or get dammaged easy.In case you see the files on a computer but your phone is unable to read them is no big problem. If your phone is in bootloader mode and stucked there,it is a bit bigger problem.Have you ever applyed the hard reset ???It helps a lot. After that the SD card recognized by the phone as memory card2.So the phone is looking for the simple name SD MMEMORY.Or sd card. This is just matter of time. You give a name ending sd crad.bat and you can erase this bad sector data.In this case you might loose the program and your important data with it.BUT>>> you save sd card, and other files on it.
If you can t make it work coz your phone is in boot loader modus, than you need professional help. And a new rom update.
helos * hopr helped somehow*

You can enable usb mode in Cyanogen's recovery image by connecting the usb cable, dropping in to the console and typing (without quotes) "ums_enable" move your ROM and when you're done "ums_disable"
then "reboot recovery" and reflash.
If you don't have a computer you can use the console to my the files.
mount /sdcard <- Mounts the fat32 partition
ls <- See what files/folders are in the current directory
cd nameoffolder < change directory
then once you're in the folder where the ROMs are stored (cm-update, I believe) you can either move or copy them to the root.
use 'ls' again to find the filenanme of the ROM you want to copy/move..
cp name-of-rom.zip /sdcard <- to copy the ROM to the root, or use 'mv' to move the file.
EDIT: I am an idiot. You're on a MyTouch so you can't use the console in recovery. In that case connect your phone to your computer (which has the sdk setup with drivers) and type the commands I stated about after 'adb shell'
First of all, I am running Cyanogen Mod 4.2.15.1, with RA recovery v1.52R and I have a properly partitioned SD card for apps2sd.
My question/problem is this:
I have 2 SD cards, the first one I have setup to use regularly with my phone, and is partitioned properly for apps2sd. The second one I have formatted and setup as a ubuntu USB boot disk.
My intention is this, whenever I need to use a random computer, at work or friends house, etc, it would be super if I could shut my phone down, switch to my boot SD card, boot into recovery, enable the USB-Mass Storage option, and boot the computer from USB into Ubuntu. I have the SD card set up with a persistence file so I can even save stuff in my linux environment. This is all fine and dandy, and works well. It's actually really cool to have a bootable linux environment right in my pocket with me everywhere I go...
To take it to the next level, I would like to be able to actually boot my phone, so it doesn't have to sit in recovery while I'm using the computer. This way I can even turn on "Wireless Tether for Root Users" and have Ubuntu with network on the go. I've tried partitioning my SD card, putting my apps on it, and using the FAT32 partition for the Ubuntu boot disk, The only problem with this is, I can't make the FAT32 partition available to the computer before it is plugged in. (I have to mount it when the notification pops up, which is usually too late) So I figured I will enable USB-MS from RA Recovery, let it boot to Ubuntu, and once it's loaded, I'll reboot my phone, and mount again in android, then continue using the computer, but I think because the card is partitioned, BIOS isn't recognizing it as a boot drive.
So how do I mount the FAT32 partition from inside Cyanogen's 4.2.15.1 Mod? (or even from recovery?) before the computer is even connected? I need it to be available right when the computer turns on.
Any suggestions would be super, I love the idea that I can carry around a linux distro with me everywhere I go, especially coupled with a wireless connection.
Thank you!

I searched and couldnt find anything about this. I have a question is it okay to remove the nandroid back ups from the sd card and save them on your computer? (to save room on the sdcard) and if indeed i do need to use it pop the sd card into my computer copy it back over to the sd card and then run the recovery to use the back up? would this work? or am i missing something about the backup process.
never tried this before, but i am sure it will work.
Yeah, i dont think it would matter either. But i'd rather ask and get a positive answer before i do it, mess up and need it and it not work anymore lol.

Of course that will work and no, you don't have to take out the card, just use the Partitions menu in Koush's recovery to mount the phone on USB, then you can cut and paste from the card, or even format, to your heart's content on your PC. Just make sure you properly dismount the volume (only /sdcard shows up in recovery, not /emmc, for some reason) in your PC, then use the track button to dismount from the DI.

Thank you sir, appreciate it.
When changing the sdcard, is it simply a matter or performing an external format, powering phone down, remove existing sdcard and inserting new sdcard ?

1. Connect your phone to your PC and Enable the USB mode
2. Backup/copy all your 2GB microSD info -somewhere/new folder- @ your computer
3. Use an SD or USB adapter to connect/plug your new 16GB microSD and restore all your info back in there
4. Turn off phone
5. Switch microSD cards
6. Turn on phone and Enjoy !
Had to enable the phone as external drive, copy all data from old sdcard and restore it all to new sdcard
If you have rooted your phone and enabled a2sd in android phone it is different story.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
power down
you dont have to power down to remove the sdcard. not that its a big deal but you could just...
go to settings ->
click SD and Phone Storage ->
click unmount sd card.
or you could just power down.

phone is rooted.
what is the "different story"?

If you are using A2SD, you applications are in EXT3 partition. You need to restore them.
Simple mount and copy will work for data in FAT32 partition. If you have A2SD, you need to go through nandroid route to restore application as well.

Should we install a recovery again or it stay there ?
on my iconia when i plug into computer i only see a500 internal files i go to storage and see sd i click on that and cant see any files. i know they are there because they are my zips for updates.when i mount into card reader i see them that is the only way. in applications the sd card is detected it shows me how large and how much space left. the only rom i can see is the xoom rom. right now im using tahooney its a real pain to have to take out card to put update files on when i reboot into recovery it detects there because im able to install other roms. any help is appreciated
Unfortunately, it's by design and it's Google's fault. I use a memory stick to transfer files, personally. It's WAY faster.
thanks it was driving me nuts tring to figure that out do apps and pictures go to the sd card or do they also need to be transferred i saw the android secure folder when i mounted on laptop. also can you update roms thru a memory stick i guess will recovery read it
Bugs me as wall and I do believe this issue it what causes many on here to end up with currupt update.zip files.I know it takes longer but I use network to move files or take SD card out. This eliminates a step from moving the file. Pain but it is what it is.
File manage HD seems to be the fastest for me to access network shares.and even my private FTP that I have hosted by just host.
Good luck
I've said it before, I will say it again. Droid Explorer.
