Hello everybody! please help me wtih next situation. I've bought Galaxy tab 7.7 in Tailand about a week ago. It is working fine, but one thing im worrying about - it is the impossibility to make my device wroking on local sim cards ( I live in Russia -operatos are Megafon and Beeline). I tried to switch my ROM to a stock Russian with changing region, and i tried to unlock my device by editing nv_data.bin but i did not succeed - i could not find 0x181469 and 0x18150e bytes in order to edit nv_data.bin manually via HexEditor. So i tried script method and i ran this in adb shell, having my device in debug mode ofc:
su
cd /sdcard
echo "this takes about 45 seconds"
if [ ! -f /sdcard/nv_data.bin.orig ]; then
echo "copying file to /sdcard"
cp /efs/nv_data.bin /sdcard/nv_data.bin.orig
fi
echo -en \\x00 > out0
dd if=nv_data.bin.orig of=out1 bs=1 count=1578089
dd if=nv_data.bin.orig of=out2 bs=1 skip=1578090 count=163
dd if=nv_data.bin.orig of=out3 bs=1 skip=1578254
cat out1 out0 out2 out0 out3 > nv_data.bin.unlocked
rm out0 out1 out2 out3
rm /efs/nv_data.bin
cp nv_data.bin.unlocked /efs/nv_data.bin
rm /efs/nv_data.bin.md5
reboot
Click to collapse
my device rebooted normally - i found new nv_data.bin.UNLOCKED file on sd-card. I replaced old nv_data with a new one (ofc i removed UNLOCKED tag) and rebooted. After both reboots (reboot via adb shell and manual reboot) - still no effect - it keeps telling me that i need to put my sim into a tab.
I am really desperate solving this problem - i cant find solution though i tried surfing internet more carefully. Please help!

I already did! I tried with 4 different sim cards from 3 operators and i bought a new sim card just for an experiment like 2 days ago - still no result. Maybe i should try mini sim wtih adapter... but what confuses me most is absence of above mentioned bytes in my nv_data.bin...how can i check whether my device unlocked or not?
Maybe you have a broken Sim slot. Check the. Forums and you'll find lots of ppl with broken sim slots

Turned out my sim slot was rly broken.
But guys from tech support with replacing my slot also chagned IMEI number. They said imei should be chagned in order to use your device in your country... now its functioning normally.
Anyone know where to get a replacement sim slot? Mine is broken and no-one locally in Sydney can source it from anywhere.
the SIM Slot seriously has issues!
the last few days, my 3g connection keeps dropping randomly and the device alerts "please enter sim card". I've only used a solid old style sim card, nothing else
i had the same problem "No Sim", and i just flashed PIT file from here and it worked perfectly

glad to see i was not the only one with this problem
After a month of purchasing my 7.7 tab i experienced this on HC but after a few weeks of just letting it happen, because i was thinking i have a defective sim card, the problem just went away and never occured again. But here comes ICS first 3 days are problem free but after that the sim card problem again is now reoccurring :crying:

Hi
I tried to flash my phone to GENERIC x10a R2 firmware using PC companion today and after everything is finished I tried to turn my phone on with SIM card inserted but the damn phone is stuck a activating phone screen! but when i use the phone without a the SIM card it works phone and desktop is displayed
I tried to flash the phone again with different rogers firmware and same issue happnes
Did I brick my phone?!?
No, you didn't brick it. Brick is when the phone doesn't boot correctly if at all. How exactly does it freeze? Does the OS still work while it fails to connect to the network? Or does the phone become unresponsive completely?
I would try testing a different phone with your SIM, and a different SIM onto your phone.
Just curious, did you root your phone prior to flashing??
Here is what happened exactly
I had Rogers firmware R2A020 and I found a Gerneric X10a R2A020 so I decided to flash it. I didnt try to root or anything just used simple PC companion method.
Flashing went successful, when I booted up my phone it took me to the initial setup screen and the phone fucntioned normally that is of course without using a SIM card!
I turned off the phone and inserted the SIM card booted it up I was welcomed by the infamous lock screen it said at the top "no SIM card is inserted" I swapped my finder to unlock the screen and a black screen came up with a message that says "Activating phone" with a circular logo that spins next to it.
The message was setting there for almost 20 min I cant go past through that screen. I tired using my brother's SIM card but it still doing the same thing.
The phone works without SIM card but when I put any SIM in it same problem happens!!
I tried to repair and even flashed back to Rogers firmware but same issue.
I read that two people had the same problem on other forums, one possible cause is could my IMEI been blocked by AT&T?
Thanks Guys
It is not a problem with your Provider. I had the same problem as you 2 days ago.
Unfortunately I could not find an easy fix for it.
I tried to do the flash the same as you did and came across that error, but I had already rooted my phone.
I have a friend who works for SE, who I took the phone to. Even he had problems updating the phone. In the end he had to connect it to EMMA and do a "Phone Activation", this was the only way he could reflash the phone. After that, it worked ok.
I can only suggest you take it a service centre and ask them to reflash it. Sorry that I dont have a solution for you.

how can I access that?
I had the same issue. I rooted an Xperia X10i, everything worked fine. I then tried the MarketEnabler application on it and at reboot I got that "Activating Phone" message and it hangs there.
First, if you go to flight mode, that unblocks the phone. Going back to normal mode works but not the SIM card.
Then I changed DEVICE_PROVISIONED to 0 in build.prop and everything works fine now. Thanks to zephyrix for your help.
I'm new to Android so I don't know if this is the proper way of changing this but here's what I did:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2 /system
adb pull /sdcard/build.prop
Then edit build.prop in a text editor to set DEVICE_PROVISIONED to 0
adb push build.prop /sdcard/build.prop
adb shell dd if=/sdcard/build.prop of=/system/build.prop
adb shell rm /sdcard/build.prop
adb shell reboot
That should do it.

I'm going to root my phone tonight, thanks for the tip I hope it works
Now that the unlock is out I would like to do it for users without charging like other members.
From a terminal shell on your PC type the commands in the image. Sorry but the forum reads it as a link and since I am a "new" user I am unable to post it. Maybe someone below me can?
PM me and I will give you my email address to send the file to. Again, new user no links
If you wish to make a donation for this service be my guest but it's not necessary.
Thanks to rhcp0112345 for discovering this method but this community is about sharing not profiteering.

How to Unlock Your Samsung Captivate (AT&T) for FREE
Someone test this:
Code:
cd /dev/block <enter>
su <enter> <at this point your phone will ask for superuser access ALLOW it
dd if=/dev/block/bml3 of=/sdcard/bml3.bak <enter>
do that to your rooted phone in ADB
Then just open the file with a hex editor, and SHAZAM! your code is there,
Around line 515040
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...t-Vibrant-quot-NAM-3G?p=13984529#post13984529
I have the file but cant find my code at the area he said it would be. Anyone have a search term that will make it easier to find?
Edit:
Actually, I think I have it. How many digits should the code be?
I posted some detailed instructions here
Got it. Thanks. Now I need a different sim card to try this out on, unless anyone has another suggestion.
Here is another guide. Credit goes to r34p3rex on Howard forums.
You must be rooted Here's how to grab your unlock code off your own phone, for free!
Connect your phone via USB and open an adb shell (you need the SDK installed)
My SDK is installed in C:\Android
cd c:\android\tools
adb shell
Now that you're in shell type in the following
su
dd if=/dev/block/bml3 of=/sdcard/bml3.bak
Mount your SD card on your computer and open bml3.bak in a hex editor. Search for the string SSNV (it's in caps). You'll see something like this
SSNV.±Ì.ž.Ì.å....`Få•1Š>...OÊÄÏñ..ý“œÌ5..ÇõÎ_.coõã Ò@×`^ãQ.ÚR=€[¥×‡ùáâß-P.5370859753708597.51531930.00000000100100101#3101503101703111803104103109809 9999#
In my case, the 51531930 is the unlock code! So basically, it's the second set of numbers (separated by periods).
Pop in a foreign SIM and it'll ask you for an unlock code. Punch this baby in and you're unlocked!

Hey guys, I just bought a Captivate from eBay that said it was already unlocked (it was a sub $400 purchase too), how can I verify that it really is?

Put in a different SIM then an AT&T one...
Confirmed here too. Copied the BML3 to computer and used Hex Fiend (Mac), searched for SSVN (in caps). Code is right there between the dots.
Put in a T-Mo SIM and made and received a call.
THANKS!
I don't have any other sim cards, nor do I know any one that uses another SIM-based network (only ATT, Sprint, and Verizon people around here). Is there any other way?
I was thinking about grabbing a pay as you go sim card from walmart or a t-mobile store and trying that route.
Some of the links indicated this works with some firmwares and not others - I wonder if this is the same code AT&T would hand out - if so, it should work regardless of firmware.
Can any unlock expert weigh in?
Actually, I'm gonna use my gophone SIM in the Captivate. I've found someone online that did it and it's now his daily phone.

that method worked great for me. Used HexWorkshop and did a text string search.
It works....So I guess my question is if and when custom ROM's start coming out will flashing a custom ROM undo the unlock?
Works perfect - I used an old T-mo prepaid sim that is not even active (no $$$) - all the SIM has to do is connect to a network.
At one time I bought this T-Mo prepaid kit online for $5 and they mail you a SIM card with 10 minutes on it. Put my AT&T card in and all is well.
I wonder if there is anywhere on the phone to see an unlock status (with the AT&T SIM installed). Does anyone know if Android has a setting to show if a phone is carrier unlocked?
BTW, I used HxD: http://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php?product=HxD

To create contact at sim card take a look at com.android.internal.telephony.IccProvider (Android sources) But keep in mind that in my tests stock HTC Phone app doesn't reflect changes made via this provider.
copy a number to sim card, do you mean copy the phone number to sim card and then reboot?

yes I want to reboot either whole phone or just the phone process.. depends on how complicated restarting the phone process is
Heh, I thought we're talking about interesting things, not about eclipse setup. No advice because I don't use it.
IccProvider is like a general data provider so typical usage is:
ContentResolver cr = context.getContentResolver();
ContentValues cv = new ContentValues();
cv.put("tag", tag);
cv.put("number", number);
cr.insert("content://icc/adn", cv);
And I think you don't need to reboot a phone all you need is to force sim card rereading, try to switch off/on a radio, main phone app will reread sim card.
I finally solved all those problems above one more thing I'd like to know is how to get the process id of an app like "com.android.phone"
big thanks for all your help till now!
everything finished pls close!
ok... i know i've posted alot about this.... bt this is like a mega thread which will give every detail..
specifications before the problem:-
wildfire 2.1 -
8gb kingston class 2 -
uninor (India)(network provider) -
[bought the phone and used my vodafone card till like 1 month then switched to uninor]
i was using the stock rom(but rooted) till dec 20th
The problem:-
When the froyo update came out i installed danne_jo's safe flashable version of the stock rom ... no problems with that... then tried the wildpuzzle 0.6..no problem with that either..bt i switched back to my vodafone card in the 1st week of jan(due to connectivity issues on uninor)...thats when all the problems started... the moment i switched on the data connection... my phone would just freeze..if not immediately then when im surfing or using an app that connects to the internet...or any high memory app...even the home and back buttons would stop giving me vibrations even though i had overclocked my phone to 691/254-710/254 MHz (performance mode)....i continued trying to fix it for 2 days...then got my sim replaced... no luck even der... the phone hangs even with the new card... tried other vodafone sim cards(mother's , brother's, friend's)... the same result everytime...bt when i put my uninor simcard in my phone.... everything works great... even the data connection.... so i started posting on the forum... got great help from 3xeno and daddyspud... they told me to do different tests so that they could pinpoint the problem...this is what all i did and their results
** phone works fine if i have the data connection switched off... no problem using wifi or bluetooth, also it works fine when i dont have any apps installed...
1. flashed the 2.1 RUU and rooted the phone again (2 times)- no change
2. tried different roms - again the same result
3. the sim works fine on stock(atleast better..)
4. everytime the uninor sim worked fine without any lags or freezes
5 . even tried different radios..bt no luck even after that
conclusions i drew from all this:-
1) first i thought that it was coz of apps2sd as its not recommended to use a class 2 card...bt then y does it work fine with the uninor sim in it...??? (weird right??)... and even if it was then how could apps2sd be affected by sim card or data connection??
2) then i thought that it might be because of the network.. bt i confirmed with 3xeno...coz he's also a vodafone customer in India and doesn't face this problem...
3) then i thought that it was coz of froyo...bt 3xeno again confirmed that it wasn't the problem..
4) talked at HTC customer center... they told me to do a hard reset i.e. HBOOT>clear storage
5) then yesterday i jus remembered that once when i was messing around with my phone i had clicked the SIM LOCK option in the HBOOT menu(i was using the uninor sim at that time)..bt according to me nothing happened because every line that came after that ended with the word 'failed'.. i also read a thread on the same.. and it said that it didnt coz any problem if u accidentally clicked on that ...
link to that thread:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765420
... bt 3xeno thinks that, it's the source of the problem, and i pretty much do agree to it coz everythings pointing towards that only
* there's also something i'd like to bring to notice... today i installed wildpuzzle v0.8(cache on phone by default).. my phone performed better..bt still did hang......
* Also... when i change my sim cards... i get a notification saying" sim card changed... change the following settings?" which include bookmarks, etc.. nothing major.. it gives 3 options 1.yes 2. no,later 3.no....
now i seriously dont know what the problem is..3xeno thinks its coz of the sim lock stupidity i did..... coz i've tried everything in my knowledge to fix this, i've busted my brains out, sleepless nights sitting in front of my laptop, waititng 4 someone to reply to my posts,i'm really tired, bt im in no mood to give up..... plz its my request to all the devs and anyone who can help me to plz atleast look into this problem...
Thanks to anyone and everyone who have already helped me and are goint to help me!!!!!

see the problem you are having is something that is not so common and the second thing is that you have the full knowledge of flashing custom roms aswell as shipped roms.. and since you have tried all the possible methods there might me some defect in your device, that is what i think....
anyways .. i hope you find the answer to your problem.... best of luck
Just a very basic idea - i'm far from beeing a dev.
But it looks to me that your phone thinks (at least partial) that it is simlocked. Can't you try to unlock it using a goldcard and see what it gives?
Don't know how to create such a card or if it would work - it is just an idea.
Erwin
i read the gold card procedure( http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/ )... bt the thing that i dont understand is what to do after i create the gold card??? also i've got 2 SD cards... one of 512 mb...with this card i reach the end of the procedure bt fail as the card requires formatting... and the other card is sandisk 8gb class 2... with that i cannot get ahead of the 'cat' command.. as it gives me no such file found...

Strange, I just did the same thing, and it works well with me.. sure you didn't mistype it?
I believe that, if you've successfully created a gold card, you can put it in your phone (perhaps reboot?), connect your phone to the computer with usb debugging enabled and than you are allowed to flash any RUU.
But I beleve that is the weak point of my solution: you have already tried (and succeeded) in flashing a RUU (which would not work if your simlocked, I beleve).
But you have nothing to lose, so you can try I think. I have no other ideas than that.
Succes!

Good,
I have been around for 3 weeks with this "big" terminal. Until yesterday, it has been working perfectly. Suddenly when I turn it on I get the following message:
Type unlock SIM
It is as if the terminal had stopped being free and needed to be released, I tried to put the SIM in both slots (MicroSIM and NanoSIM) and the same thing, I have also tried to insert the SIM of another provider with identical result. I put the same cards in another phone (MI4) and they work perfectly.
The terminal I bought it in the store Gerbeast and comes with the global ROM 8.1.2.0 (MBEMIDI), has not given me time to unblock it or anything, this is how I take it out of the box.
Does anyone know or know what this may be because of this and how to solve it?
Regards!!

Just give it your MI account password and it will unlocked. It's a security measure by MI, which is required when you change sim card.
