Hi all,
After using Android via SD for months, I feel the time has come to make it my full-time OS.
I've chosen this ROM as my first to flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908528 - Looks like a decent, stable Desire HD (Sense) port.
I've read all the usual n00b threads but due to paranoia and anxiety want to just confirm I'm about to do everything right before the big flash...
This rom uses ext3 data (like a fake 1gb internal memory) so I've partitioned my SD card as per instructions in the thread.
My main concern is flashing MAGLDR, i.e. "you need to flash MAGDLR 1.13 and the 400mb Recovery"
From what I gather, I download "-Download v1.3 400MB-" from this thread and run the update utility via USB like flashing any (WM) ROM. Is it best to Task29 before this and do it from the bootloader? Do I need to flash anything else before-hand? What's the difference between the magldr 1.13 and magldr 1.13 with 400mb recovery that I'm told to use in the ROM thread? Do I need to flash one before the other?
After this is on my phone it looks simple enough to flash the rom via the SD card inside MAGLDR's options and finish the job.
I've got the correct radio, etc. So all I'm really asking for is confirmation on how to get MAGLDR on my phone.
Sorry for the seemingly stupid question(s) but I have indeed read through the threads but just want to be sure!

The 400MB recovery is not MAGLDR - it's Clockworkmod recovery with a specific 400MB flash layout.
Task 29 is optional, but recommended. Then boot to bootloader, flash your radio of choice, flash MAGLDR, flash Clockworkmod, and finally flash your chosen NAND build from within Clockworkmod, which is accessed from the MAGLDR menu. There's not too much that can go wrong if you read all the tutorials, and everything in the OP for your chosen build.

radio, if its below v 2.10.50 or so, and 2.08.hspl of course.

theyre the same thing, , , magldr will work with any recovery size, and depending on the rom size you choose, depends how big you want the partition to be. You have a big rom, so use 400, i have a light rom, so i use the 150. the magldr is the same, the only difference is two numbers in a text file that set the size of the partition during flashing.
After this is on my phone it looks simple enough to flash the rom via the SD card inside MAGLDR's options and finish the job.
I've got the correct radio, etc.

Yeah. Basically run Task29 (format the NAND) if you want to. Then after that run the RomUpdateUtility to flash MAGLDR 1.13 via HSPL then once you're inside of MAGLDR (hold power button while powering on) and flash the 400mb Clockwork Recovery image via the .daf file found in your Clockwork download folder from USB Flasher in MAGLDR. That'll flash CWR, then reboot to MAGLDR again and chose 'AD Recovery'. Then you're in Clockwork and free to do whatever you want.

What is the difference. Is it just ppp. Seems like magldr I'd the easiest way to install android or update anything that I've ever tried, never really had any problems with it at all. Just looking for some feedback

Haven't tried clk, but there is another thread re this same Q, might be of help?

cLK has few extra options. Charge while phone is powered off. Reboot to recovery. Faster boot time. Rom manager works.
But if you're happy with magldr, don't upgrade to clk.
It's not worth it

Phone with MAGLDR on cannot be charged when the phone is off? What happen if I accidentally used up every drop of the battery and the battery does not have enough juice to power up the phone? Perhaps cLK is a safer route?
Yup that's the flaw of magldr. But I haven't read in anyone who has actually had to replace their battery because of such so you should be fine.
My hd2 ran out of battery last week so I just plugged it into the charger and after one failed attempt to boot up, it booted all the way.

Ok this is my run down or two cents.
MAGLDR is way more user friendly as far as flashing CWM. It has several useful options, but a lot of those options are not needed if you have CWM. MAGLDR can boot Android and Windows Phone 7, but is not as elegantly as a native device of the corresponding OS. Size wise MAGLDR is bigger than cLK. MAGLDR uses RMNET for it's data connection. No charging while the device is off. (I theories the no off charging has some kind of correlation to the digitizer going out so often)
CLK is not as user friendly to flash CWM, as it is not just a click, click, click, click, click and flash. CLK makes your HD2 truly feel like NATIVE Android device. You can only boot Android from NAND with cLK. MAGLDR is a bigger size bootloader then cLK and uses PPP for a data connection. You can charge your HD2 while nit is off
I have used both MAGLDR and cLK, currently cLK. I think both are just amazing pieces of work. But in my honest opinion cLK is the better bootloader for someone that just wants to run NAND Android on their HD2. I just like the way cLK works better than MAGLDR. I will have to flash MAGLDR again coming soon as I want to try out the freshly released WP7 ROM with NoDo. ( yes I said with NoDo )
I love everything about CLK except the fact that it uses PPP. With Cedesmith's b4 wrapper, it's bearable, but I still get about 10 data drops per day minimum (just tried today). The problem doesn't seem to occur too much in strong reception areas. For now, I'm back to MAGLDR. Love CLK, but I will take a significantly more stable data connection.
This is my experience only. Several people do not get data drops at all with the b4 wrapper.

cLK
cLK has more benefits than MAGLDR and feels a lot more native than MAGLDR.
So pro cLK.
About the new WP7 builds:
The camera in flash mode is again green tinted and you need an activation code for the live service or sideload apps. Just wait for Mango update later of the year than I give WP7 a try.

I am really not interested in using Win7 and would like to try out CLK. I would like to ask 2 questions:
1) Pros and cons of using RMNET and PPP. I live in Bulgaria, Europe, if this matters in any way. I am very concerned about data drops.
2) Is there a way to swap MAGLDR with CLK in a easy way : via clockworkmod or something: I dont want to install Win 6.5 rom and all that to get it

Have to say that seems to be android issue in poor reception areas. I live in area that struggles to get any kind of data connection. I've had a few android devices now, all that all drop data connection regularly when in my local area or other poor reception spots.

I don't know why some peopls ask or say that you must flash wm6.5 if you wanna swap between MAGLDR/CLK
you can go between them at any time without losing any data or apps here is what i did
i was in MAGLDR 1.13
Full backup via recovery
flashed CLK via SD (copy CLK "LEOIMG.nbh" to sd root then reboot the device while holding vol down ) then press vol up to perfotm the flash
you're now in CLK, it's time to flash recovery image
download your favorit HD2 recovery.img file
download QtADB from here
go to recovery tab then brows the recovery.img and flash it ( it's easy i think )
now reboot your phone and you're in recovery
partition your NAND exactlly as it was in MAGLDR
flash your ROM (yes FLASH it not from the backup)
i repeat FLASH THE ROM FROM THE ZIP
now goto advanced backup option from recovery then restore the rest of the partitions one by one
FOR THE LAST TIME, DO NOT RESTORE SYSTEM IMAGE FROM BACKUP
wipe dalvik and fix permissions then reboot
your done
i allready tested this methode and it workd fine i migrated from MAGLDR to Clk safely

in rom manager when you click on flash recovery do you get a list of phones to choose from? you should see "HTC HD2" on the list.
I take it yours worked as well... were you able to reboot into recovery?

Just downloaded the free version of ROM Manager and it would not reboot into recovery, I tried twice. I also tried flashing Clockwork Mod Recovery (even though I already have it flashed to my HD2) becausecevery thing besides reboot into recovery and flash Clockwork Mod Recovery give me a message saying I need Clockwork Mod Recovery before I can use it. But when I tried to flash Clockwork Mod recovery it did list the HTC HD2 in the list but it said it incountered an error while flashing Clockwork Mod Recovery, again I tried twice and same message both times. But I checked and I do still have Clockwork Mod Recovery on my HD2. Maybe you have to use cLK with ROM Manager cause in the information on the ROM Manager when you find it in the Android market says for this.

You only use fastboot with cLK, if I still had a functioning laptop (LCD screen not working) Iwould test this. But this is not possible for me at the moment.

Thanks for the confirmation. I kinda figured that when I seen fastboot mentioned in the trouble shooting for the app on the market. I just did not want to just assume it worked with cLK or only worked with cLK without being able to test it first. I try hard not to give out false information in the forums. Thanks again though.

I updated it and bought the premium version, because I was trying to update the boot loader.
I clicked on flash clockworkmod recovery and it updated to 3.0.2.5.
But when I tried to load a d recovery,I just got an error
So I presume it has installed clk?
Don't know how I'm going to get my ad recovery back.i guess I'll have to read up on that.
I did check online for some instructions on ROM manager, but no joy.

I don't know about it flashing cLK to your HD2 bit if you want to flash cLK PM me and I can help you with it. Cause cLK is not as easycas MAGLDR.

Installed rom manger and when i tried to flash cwm, HTC HD2 appeared on the devices list for the very first time (i tell you what, it felt great really great), this was the last thing needed to make HTC HD2 fully compatible with android os.
Updated cwm and did a nandroid backup from within rom manger, without a single problem, how cool is that?
This my dear friends was the icing on the cake (sort of speak) for this great piece of hardware and its long road into running android as well as any other native "made for android" hardware. This is it.
Thanks a lot to the devs and their testers who for making this all happen, thank you guys, you did make the impossible, possible, here is proof to that.
Thank you cedesmith for your "not so little" cLK.
Thank you pongster for your amazing roms.
p.s. Hyperdroid GBX is already available to download from rom manager, what do you say to that?

Almost makes me want to switch to cLK, but I hear of data and cell problems.

Well... as much i have figured out ROM Manager is not available for MAGLDR yet because of the /boot partition formating.
cLK is formating /boot partition with different file system of MAGLDR which allow ROM Manager to work on cLK.
Now if you would like to change from MAGLDR to cLK it is actually very easy and simple.
Here are the steps:
download cLK 1.4 from here
(cLK is managing the partitioning of the disk therefore you will see different filenames. I use the System:130M / Cache:5M for Ultimate Droid Rom)
The flashing of cLK is done same way as you flash WinMo (with CustomRUU). Just place in the same folder CustomRUU.exe and RUU_signed.nbh and run as administrator.
Ofcourse you have to be in bootloader mode (you know the screen with the 3 colors that shows the HSPL version)
After flashing cLK you need to have installed the adb drivers. On my expirience in Windows 7 are automaticly installed.
After that you have to download the necessary files for the fastboot commands to work from here
Extract the file to i.e. c:\android
Then you have to download ClockWorkMod Recovery for cLK from here. Download from attachements CWM for cLK.
Place the cwm *.img in the same folder as fastboot.
Now, in order to install the cwm to cLK you need to:
Run cmd
Navigate to c:\android (on cmd)
and
Code:
Type "fastboot erase recovery" (<- not really necessary; just to make sure), followed by enter
Type "fastboot flash recovery cLK_recovery_3.0.2.5.img", followed by enter
Type "fastboot reboot" for rebooting your phone
Once rebooted hold down the home button and you will enter CWM
The rest you know what to do.
I use UD Rom 3.2.5 v2 for cLK with a fix for PPP which is actually very stable from here. You can copy/paste this fix to /system/lib with the use of terminal (you must reboot after and must not clear cache)
If you don't care about the internet connection stability so much... cLK is a must for you.

Hi,
Firstly ,thanks for the tut.
I'm not sure I'm ready for clk right now.My only gripe was that it wasn't overly clear that ROM manager was only for clk,not magldr.

I bought the program because it looked like a great app.

At zach.anger why did you say if internet connection stabilitycis notcan issue then cLK is a must. Does cLK cause problems with keeing a data connection?
Also educate me on what PPP is please? I have been reading all through the cLK thread and CWM thread and have not seen an answer.

PPP is 'Point to Point Protocal', it is the alternative to RMNET type of data connection. clk doesn't support RMNET, which some consider to have a steadier data connection (no data drops) at a bit of a cost in data speed. But really ppp has come a long way since we first started having Android on our HD2's. I use ppp on a ROM that was originally on RMNET, and I never experience data drops, but some folks still prefer RMNET, or even can't get a data connection at all ob PPP.
As far as clk being a must, if you have no data issues with ppp:
clk is more like having a native Android device, it enables you to use fastboot commands from adb, and since there's no MAGLDR menu in the way between the OS and recivery, you can use the Advanced Shutdown menu built into some ROMs to boot directly from Android into CWM. That's also why ROM Manager works with clk and not MAGLDR.

Thanks for the info.
I knew about RMNET not working with cLK, even though I do not know what it is yet lol, I have not googled it yet. Bit I had tried Googling PPP and came up empty using several search terms, well not empty but not the answer I was looking for.
I also knew about being able to enter the ADB fastboot commands using cLK. I have been doing a good bit of research on cLK as I am wanting to add it to my guide in my sig. I am still wondering one thing though. I accidently busted the LCD on my laptop so I can not test this myself. But can you use the fastboot commands to flash a Android ROM just like you usecthem to flash CWM. I mean it seems to me all you have to do is type in the below command into the command promt.
fastboot flash (name of the .img file for the ROM).img
Am I correct in thinking this?
Pretty sure it will work. But I dunno 100% for sure, as I'm still using magldr. clk looks so attractive, butmy current setup is so stable, and I'm a bit lazy to switch

I am still wondering one thing though. I accidently busted the LCD on my laptop so I can not test this myself. But can you use the fastboot commands to flash a Android ROM just like you usecthem to flash CWM. I mean it seems to me all you have to do is type in the below command into the command promt.
fastboot flash (name of the .img file for the ROM).img
Am I correct in thinking this?

As said before RMNET and PPP are 2 different connection protocols.
RMNET is stable and supported by MAGLDR and not by cLK
PPP is supported by cLK but not stable as RMNET.
Concerning the benefits of cLK it just makes your HD2 a native android device, with all the benefits of it... Thats all.
About the command you are right. You can use the commands to flash any partition table as following:
"fastboot flash [partition to flash] *.img"
for example you only want to flash a new boot.img (kernel & init.rd) you just need to type:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot flash boot boot.img
you can also flash specific files from within an img but i don't remember the exact commands right now.

Based on this guide, i wanted to give cLK a go, because "it makes my device like a native android device" (please correct me if I'm wrong).
So my problem is, I already got a good, working NAND Build (RafDroid HD 4.0.2), flashed with MAGLDR and CWM. And now I don't know, how much I can "damage" with an installation of cLK. As far as I know, cLK just replaces MAGLDR (also, please correct me if I think wrong).
Will I be able to boot normally in my NAND? Or do I have to re-flash CWM?
Just a little confused...

cLK is managing partitioning unlike in MAGLDR that is managed by DAF installer.
You will have to reflash everything but you can also restore with CWM.
So...
Make a backup
Task 29 (to be sure)
Flash cLK
Flash CWM
Flash ROM for cLK
Restore backup

Yes the ROM has to be for cLK. It is a couple of ROMs that will work with both cLK and MAGLDR. But most have to seperate versionscause it is aslight difference in the kernel but hou can make any AndroidROM work with cLK. Check the last post of mime on the last page of my guide you are using it has a zip file from the cLK tgread that is suppose to do this. Or PM zach.antre he can help you make any ROM compatible with cLK.

Hi,
I don't think clk will affect the speed or stability of your phone.
That is all down to the ROM you are using and the setup you have for it.

CWM stands for Clockwork Mod Recovery. Some people call it CMR but it is the same thing. Click on my guide to find out what CWM is and what it does. the section on CWM starts in post #2.

I like it ,but it's not perfect and there issues.
I need sense,and I prefer sense 2.1 and 3.0.
That is only my opinion.
I like Sense too (one reason why i bought the HD2). I hope, I will make it without.
In case, I'm totally confused, I have backups. Lots of them.
But before re-flashing a backup, I have to re-flash the connected partition-file, right?

For your knowledge...
In most cases every ROM Dev is offering the proper files needed or gives info of what partition table need to be etc.
In your case for NexusHD2 v2.7 Tytung is providing the cLK 1.4 with partition System:135M and Cache:2M, the rest space goes for Data.
The CWM backup provides you the following files
.android_secure.img
boot.img (kernel and initrd)
cache.img
data.img (all your apps, setting, contacts, messages etc)
nandroid.md5
recovery.img (ClockWorkMod Recovery)
system.img (The Android system)
Which is actually everything that your phone has exept your SD files.
When you install a new ROM which is same Base version (Gingerbread or Froyo etc) you only need to restore (advance restore) data.img, nothing else.
Titanium backup is doing exactly the same job but also make sure your restored backup will work without a problem.
If you wipe everything and want to restore the previous version you had, you just need to restore in CWM boot.img, system.img and data.img
System.img is actually the space you need in system partition.
If for example you have deleted some system apps, such as tweeter, facebook etc, and your system.img is 119MB then you need a cLK with 120M system partitioning.
You will see different cache sizes because many ROM devs are linking cache to data so actually elliminate the need of cache partition.

I've got an HTC HD2 here, with Android installed on it. (NAND, I believe.)
It was bought second-hand with Android pre-installed.
Because it was still linked to the google account of the previous owner, I had to restore the whole phone to factory settings. Since that didn't work, I've just decided to install another Rom.
After some messing around, I managed to install Clockworkrecovery. (It wouldn't boot for some mysterious reason) And then I installed an Android Rom. (Energy™ -.¸¸.·´¯ Sense 3.5 Runnymede)
After some time, the phone rebooted and got stuck on the Android boot screen.
I tried to install another Rom, but now they all get stuck on the boot screen. (I have tried another Runnymede rom, and RCMix3D)
Does anybody know how I can fix this?
I wiped my Dalvik Cache, I wiped my Cache partition, I wiped my data/factory reset. I am using the MAGLDR as boot thingie, but that's working perfectly.
I have formatted my SD-card with G-Parted, on my Ubuntu-PC. (First partition FAT32-750MB, Second partition EXT3 - 1GB and a Linux-Swap of 100MB)
For some strange reason, ClockworkRecovery cannot format my SD-card. (Well, it says it can, but as soon as I stick the card in my PC, the PC tells me it's corrupted. (Windows XP on my Father's PC tells me it has to be formatted, on my Ubuntu it doesn't show up as mountable)

P.S. I don't mind losing data, there's no personal data on it. Any solution (which doesn't involve buying a new phone) will do.
Quickest solution I would try is format the entire card to fat32, and see if your pc detects it. Once it does, put the rom on it, put in in the phone, boot into clockwork format data/cache/dalvik install the rom then reboot and see if it goes past the bootscreen (keep in mind first boot takes a while, but if it takes more than 2-3 minutes theres still a problem.
Do you know what partition layout of clockwork you installed by any chance? Some roms require specific layouts in order to work correctly.

I have installed Clockworkmod like they say on jayceooi dot com. (I cannot past links yet, but here's the step-by-step guide:
Step by Step Guide
Power on your phone and don’t let go power button.
DFT MAGLDR Bootloader will be loaded.
Use volume down button to go down to 5. USB Flasher.
Then press call button to load USB Flasher mode.
Connect USB cable from PC to phone.
You should see Wait USB…USB.
At PC, right click on DAF.exe and select ‘Run as administrator’.
Click ‘Yes’ if User Access Control prompt up.
Follow onscreen instructions to install.
Phone will be rebooted after installation finished.
DFT MAGLDR Bootloader will be loaded then.
Disconnect USB cable from phone.
Use volume down button to go down to 8. AD Recovery.
Then press call button.
ClockworkMod Recovery will be loaded then.
That’s all.)

The directions you posted are right, so maybe try a different partition layout. The roms that you said you tried use different layouts than what you have and that may be a problem. Test a CM7 rom and see if it will boot, they tend to have less problems and are overall more stable than sense roms.

Try to install it and see if it boots. It uses the same partiton layout that you have now. If it boots, thats indication that you may need a different layout if you want to run a sense rom.
Well, I could re-format my sd-card and re-partition it, but it (Android) still got stock at the boot screen.
Using the Typhoon rom, I got the same problem. The Rom appears to be succesfully installed, but it didn't really boot.
I now tried to installed Windows Phone 7, this works fine. (I don't want to install WP7 however, I want to install android)

At the "Using "HD2 Toolkit" select "Magldr repartition" Make sure that you are using the recommended partition size for your rom!" part, I got an error that the file was too big when I tried to choose a partition of 300MB, I honestly have no idea what the partition size should be. (I want a sense-rom, I don't have a clear preference which)
I did install the Clockworkmod with 400MB with succes now.
However, still got the same problem. Android seems to get in a loop somewhere in the boot screen
EDIT:
I noticed that the Micro-SD card always corrupts after CWM installs the Android-Rom.
I think that may be the core of the issue here.
Does anybody know how I can install Android without CWM?

I manager to install an old Desire-based rom with Android 2.2 through a daf installation.
This one works fine but I still would like to install a Rom with Android 2.3 via a more regular way.
One problem I'm facing with this Rom is a very limited amount of internal storage. (about 55MB)
And I've got a big battery leak, the battery drains very fast. Much faster than my Desire HD. (The HTC HD2 we're talking about isn't mine, It's my mother's)
So does anyone know how I can install a regular Rom (preferably runnymede based) without CWM? Or does anyone know how I can resolve my problem?
@akaruna: I do not know how to partition the phone, I believe I didn't do that. Should I? I did partition the SD card. (CWM made unreadable cards for some obscure reasons, so I partitioned the SD card using gparted on Ubuntu)

If you have limited internal storage then the main problem is the partition table is not correct. This is also why the roms you install are stuck on the bootscreen. When you install roms that require a bigger partition table than what you already have on your phone they will be stuck in a bootloop.
Go and download the HD2 NAND TOOLKIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
Check out the video to familiarize yourself with the features, then repartition your MAGLDR with the correct partition table that the rom you want requires. Go into clockwork and install rom from zip.
Yes the tool kit is the best.
Yea the toolkit works wonders. Even though I still do it the original way ;p I do everything faster that way for some reason

I tried it again with this rom: "[18Dec 2011] [CMR] Sensation xl Sense3.5/2.3.5 v2.7 BETA OC & marc1706 0.1.3 kernel" (I believe I'm still not allowed to post links)
I used the NAND toolkit this time for the System Partition Size.
The only thing I actually did was clicking 350MB as System Partition Size and then I clicked repartition. And then I followed the on-screen instructions, which involved clicking next and after some installing some drivers everything went fine. (With the HD2 in USB-flash mode of course, it also said the job was completed succesfully)
I wasn't able to choose a bigger size for some reason, it told me the 400MB was too big.
Still the same problem, the phone gets stuck at the Android boot-screen.
Does anybody have an idea? Thanks in advance (Again, I'm not scared of losing any data, if anyone has any solution at all: I'm more than happy to hear it)
I tried another DAF rom and got the following error:
"Error Description: Size is too big.
Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (800)"
So I tried repartitioning the System Partition Size (MAGLDR) to 400Mb.
However, It gave me the exact same error.
Does anyone know has any idea? (For example, how I can change the partitions in another way)
(Partitioning it at 360MB works fine)
Not sure what it is but the DAF file I use let me partition to 445...... those sense time are heavy and if the partition isn't right it will bootloop or not
