Ok let me see if I can explain my problem right. I got an android locked to t-mobile USA I am planning to but an unlock code for this phone but the problem that I encountered before buying the code is this this phone come with an application that when it start up it asks you to to set up your gmail account but I am in mexico I am not interested in having a gmail account how can I delete this application or stop it or skip it otherwise I am not going to be able to use the phone what can I do I like this phone but it is useless in the state that it is help
Not having a gmail account means you wont be able to use the market, your contacts wont sync, the included calendar app wont work very well. There may be other issues as well.
Do you hate google or what? A gmail account is free.
no thats not the reason I dont hate google it is just that at the moment when my android turns on it start up with this message
Setting up your T-Mobile G1 I tried to register but it wont register and I can not even use the phone functions the android stays on trying to register this what I do
i try to register then a message comes up that says that it may take up to five minutes but after a while another message show up and it says
there is a problem comunicating with google servers
this could be a temporary problem or your sim card may not be provioned for data services. If it continues call customer service
well the bottom line I really want to use this phone but how can I get pass this registering bull
here in mexico we run into this problems all the time our cell carriers suck basically i just want to be able to use the phone functions only if anyone can help I will apreciate it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452316
You may need to downgrade to RC29 depending on what version your phone is currently running.
Also, I'm not sure if your carrier, or any at all, block by IMEI if a phone is reported stolen. I'm not accusing you of stealing, but, you know...

Ok... Long story short:
The G1 is a "google" phone and is dependant on data services and a google account to operate. That being said, the only way you can work around this without having a solid data connection (through your cell provider) is to go the process to root your phone and use one of the builds that allows you to skip google registration. I know TheDude's build lets you, I'm not sure which other builds do. By skipping the sign-in process you would still be able to use wireless internet to get your phone to sync with google once you turn on wifi.
Of course, your phone will have to be unlocked if it's not already.
I suggest you look at the development forum and start reading the links from the "round-up" sticky on the very top.
Thank you everybody for your quick responses but it seems that i am still stuck in the setting your account bull.- i try to root my android but i can even get to format my m sd card as a follow instruction in how to root phone it says to wait until mount show up on my screen how am i suppose to do that when my phone wont get past the setting up account screen can i format m sd card with adapter and then load the rc29 and put it back on my android and follow the rest of the intructions will that work i dont want to try it just like that has anyone else done like this is this going to brick my android.

Yes, if you have a card reader you could put the dreaimg.nbh, update.zip and recovery on your sd card and never have to mount your phone to the pc.
Or just use another device with a memory card reader or writer. Or even better, install ADB, go into the recovery window by pressing home+power and on your computer enter the ADB interface and type in
adb mount /sdcard/
adb push (location of firmware).nbh /sdcard/
and voila.
Hey I downloaded android-sdk-windows-1.5_r2 isnt this file suppose to have everything I need to work in my android but it doesnt where is ADB at and I am suppose to have and update zip and restore it doesnt say anything about that in development. I am liking this but it seems difficult but thats why I like it just show me where this files are at and I promise that I will at least brick my android lol not really but I hope I get it working. Well this are the instructions in how to root.
Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode:
Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
A new removable disk should show up on your computer. Right click it and select Format, and select FAT32 as the file system type.
Download and unzip the RC29 or RC7 image file. Copy the DREAMIMG.nbh file to the SD card. (RC29 for US, RC7 is for UK)
Turn the device power off.
Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry bootloader mode. You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card. If you don't see that, make sure you followed the instructions properly.
As per the on-screen instructions, press the Power button to start upgrade procedure. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.
After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.
see it doesnt say that I need and update zip and a recovery. But I might be wrong so where are this files at

I have cut to the chase and given you the direct links in the stickies that you were supposed to have already read if you were following the very good advice from skri11a.
After reading this, you should have all of the knowledge you need to make your phone work... If not, come back here and we can clarify any further questions.
If you continue to refuse to help yourself, there is a good chance that this thread will be locked, closed, fired, deleted, or shot into space.
Well I am back after reading and trying all that I have to say and I am probably going to get this thread close is this. I can get adb to run I downloaded sdk copied to C installed drivers for my android and nothing happens. I also tried using a memory adapter and formated my sd to fat 32 and then copied DREAIMGRC29 and then tried to run it and nothing happen I am the dummest person in the world.
I don't think this is the phone for you. Just sayin.

Did you happen to rename/extract the DREAIMGRC29? It needs to be the DREAIMG.NBH. Also "Dumbest" not "Dummest".

he still can call.
and i'll even list the number: 1-800-937-8997.
all they need is the IMEI number, then they give the correct unlock code contingent on that.
and it'll be obvious that he's in mexico and needs his g1 to be unlock, so i'm sure they'll supply that code for him.
granted he's been with tmo for 90 days or more.

What do you mean? I have a quick question for you though, who is your carrier, and do you have the proper APN set up?
Android 3+ has a nice feature -- device encryption. You can encrypt the contents of your device with a password, and after that this password must be entered during device boot, otherwise the data is permanently lost.
The bad thing is that this password is set to the screen lock PIN / password. So you either set a short password or PIN, that you can enter quickly each time you unlock your phone from sleep (but this provides weak encryption), or set a long password and have to type it 20-30 times during the day.
This stupid behavior may be fixed easily. Android provides command-line tool called 'vdc', an interface to Android Volume Manager. As written in "Notes on the implementation of encryption in Android 3.0" [1], it has a command 'cryptfs changepw', that allows changing encryption password. Of course this command must be executed as root.
vdc has some other commands related to encryption, one of them is 'cryptfs verifypw', that allows to validate the supplied password.
I'm currently writing an application that will assist user with changing encryption password. This is my first public application for Android. You can find a source code on GitHub [2]. It is very simple, but maybe android gurus here may find what to make better.
Comments and pull requests are welcome
Thanks!

Sorry im noob
What will change visualy?
Or screenshot?
Sent from my LT26i using XDA Premium HD app
Thank you for this. I wanted a more simple password for the unlock, but a longer more complicated password for the decryption. You should put it on the market and charge $.99USD (or equivalent in your currency) as it's quite useful. I'd buy it
Thank you!
Actually I have registered myself as Google Play Developer, now I'm waiting for approval. As soon as my registration is approved, I will update this thread
Although I'm going to make a free and donate versions, because I believe that will help to make Android better, and people who want to say "Thank you" will buy Donate version anyway

Nothing will change visually, hence no screenshot. What's important is that you may set strong password for decrypting the internal storage, but keep using simple password (or PIN) to unlock the screen.
P.S. I have verified that my app works on Jelly Bean too.
I have finally published an application on Google Play! Currently there is a free version, Donate version will come a bit later
The link is: https:// play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kibab.android.EncPassChanger
Enjoy!
Thanks for that app, that is also what annoyed me
Thanks for this. I've been trying to work out why encryption wont work on any ROM on my HOX (dies with unable to get size of block device cryptfs), and you have given me a good lead to investigate with vdc. Information on encryption in android is sparse, and almost all threads here on XDA get no replies.
Thanks again.
I've been tempted to use device encryption recently, but there is a distinct lack of information about it, particularly on custom ROMs...
Might need to give it a go, just the lack of backup abilities might be an issue...

I use CM10 on the Galaxy Nexus (maguro). Encrypted. Actually, only /data is encrypted. /system stays unencrypted. And this App works as described.
For Backup use TWRP. It asks for your password to decrypt storage.
You can then backup, restore, flash, install whole ROMs, wipe and what not.

btw. The encrypted /data partition lets you have two boot animations, one that is shown before code has been entered (the one in /system/media) and one after the correct code entry (the one in /data/local).

Yes, SD is encrypted too. And TWRP can only read from it after correct code entry. Don't know about the external SD though (since the Galaxy Nexus doesn0t have one).

Wish I had a second phone, then I could just research this
Quite awesome. Now, can I use a strong password for encryption and then pattern lock for normal day to day use? That would be my ideal situation. I heart pattern lock!
Just trying to clarify how this works... so you keep your normal 'short' pin unlock code for unlocking the screen, but set a long code for decryption, and this code will only be requested once per boot, during bootup? Is this correct?
Thanks
How it works
Yes Sir. You are correct.

Unfortunately it's not possible to use pattern lock while using device encryption, Android forbids it. Patching Android framework will help, but this is completely another story and possible suggestion for ROM makers such as Cyanogenmod.
Is the 16 character Android limitation present, when using this tool? I currently use a 16 character device encryption/unlock pass phrase. I'd like to strengthen the device pass phrase some more.
I don't know if this is even possible during the device boot sequence, but being able to use a Yubikey with an OTG cable would be awesome!

How have you found and extracted gesture.key?
To remove something from data.ext4 you could mount the file in Ubuntu/Linux which will grant you access to the files.
Code:
[CENTER]sudo mount -o loop data.ext4 ~/Desktop/data
then edit it and unmount it
umount data.ext4[/CENTER]

Had a quick look and if you aren't given the option to reset it, after ~5 failed attempts you could try downloading lock screen bypass from the market to see if that works, I'll attach a copy of the apk if you cant get it.
Just tried it and its 5 failed attempts for me, then the offer to reset.
unfortunately this did not work for me. think it is locked at a different point.

I'm glad that you could solve it and unlock your phone, but I am curious, why it didn't let you unlock using Gmail without data.
Sometimes, I unlock the phone using gmail and pass EVEN with airplane mode on and no WiFi. Isn't it supposed to check with your already registered gmail account? thus no need for an internet connection?
Anywa, enjoy your phone.

Glad you got round it, I didn't mention anything adb wise as I though you said debugging was turned of, at least you've learned something. And being able to edit the data.ext4 on a desktop has it's benefits.

Yes Marvlesz, was also strange to me. Tried the same with my ICS Pad without any connection while I read somewhere that even wifi should not work only when the device is connected to USB!? Maybe it depends on the version? My phone was on ICS 4.0.3 (IceCreamTosti_v0.10_AOKP_M4) with Tyatung Kernel 2.6.32.
Now after all my installation got broke but I can access my stuff, finally save it and reinstall newer version while I have a good reason now to do that

Yes HypoTurtle, debugging was off and I did´nt use adb. With your kind help I mounted data.ext4 and changed settings.db in linux.
My friend has Samsung GT-S6102, and in trying to change the pattern lock, he did something wrong, and now is locked out.
The next step is to enter his Google account login and password, which will let him log on and create a new pattern lock. The problem is, the phone has Wi-Fi and Data turned off.
I think he is now dead in the water, with no options left but to factory-reset the phone.
Is there any way to get the phone to connect to Google, even with Data and Wi-Fi not connected? If we could get 'data' or 'wi-fi' on, we would be all set - but unless there is some diagnostic way to do this from a connected PC, I can't see much else we can do.

How about if I both hit "thanks" (already done!), and also say thanks!!
I've been here to xda-developers before, and now have my own device to use to learn rooting and installing custom ROMs. Haven't done it yet. I suppose this might be a good time to learn, but if I mess up, my friend isn't going to be very happy with me.
Let me ask you two questions - if the device is "locked", how can I even root the device? Doesn't it have to be on, running, and ready for whatever it is I need to do? A second question might be how I find the information here to learn how to 'root' a GT-S6102, but I can try that in the morning, when I'm a bit more awake (am now in India, and it's 1am).
I was thinking there might be some kind of diagnostic code that could be sent to the phone from a PC, even though the USB connection is probably not on right now, to "wake up" the data or wi-fi, which would enable the normal process of connecting to Google to continue.
I think you're suggesting I root the phone and flash a new OS. If there is a way to do that, isn't there a way to just turn on data or wi-fi?
I found this from a list of codes:
#*3282# Activate/Deactivate Data
Now, if I could only find a way to get that command to the locked phone....
If I do some of the steps you suggested, can I get to a step where I can give the phone those instructions?
here's the full list:

Thanks to everyone for all the help. It's no longer an issue. They took the phone to a shop and had it reset to new, so it's in effect a brand new phone again. I guess it will at least be faster now.
I find it hard to believe that Google did things this way - it's good for security, but if someone's phone has data and wi-fi off, and a kid plays around with it and it gets locked, they've in effect, killed it.
I guess it's time for me to stop reading, and start doing. That's the only way I'm going to learn this stuff. Again, thanks!

did u reset d phone?? if no here is a work around .
1) insert a sim card that has incoming call facility (u must know the sim card no)
2) make a call and receive it
3) don't hang up.. after receiving when u r in call window it will let u access d notification dropdown window.. now u can activate wifi or data network mode as u wish..
so no need to reset!!

I know this is a stupid question (I am new), but what does the clear data option do? Wipe/reset the device of my personal stuff?
You will not need data, wifi to sign into google Account..

yes it will wipe all user data - this includes installed apps (not system apps) contacts sms and so on
if you want to remove the lock screen password you can do it without wiping data
see my post in this thread

recovery mode
So when i do this process does my active SIM have to be in the device as well?

does the sim have to be in the phone when signing in and/or doing the workaround (or any method)?

you can flash this zip in cwm with system and data mounted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2192613&d=1376652536
it will remove the lock screen - if the lock screen does appear just enter anything you like
your sim card does not have to be in to do this although if your phone is set to not allow access without a sim card in you will need to edit your build.prop to allow phone use without sim
Hi everyone,
A friend of mine got a second-hand tablet Samsung 500t from one of her relatives.
She set her password, but she forgot it after a while. She asked me to help her to sort the problem out but I don't know windows RT and I don't know exactly what to do. In addition, we don't have any cd or user's manual. I tried to reset and I launched the procedure which always ended up with this message:
"Insert your windows installation or recovery media to continue".
I don't know what to do now, and, unfortunately, she hasn't got any back up.
Can anyone help me? Thank you.
Is she using a local account or a Microsoft account? If the latter, you can just reset your password the same way you would if you forgot, say, your Hotmail password. Go to https://login.live.com and follow the "forgot password" steps.
If it's a local account, that's more awkward. There are various steps (short of a full wipe) that you can do, but if you don't know the Admin password then most of the non-wipe options require things like Linux liveCD (or live flashdrive) images and forcibly resetting the password.

She is using a local account. We asked her relative, the former owner, about a Microsoft account, but he didn't know and remember anything about that.
Can you explain me more about using a Distro Linux to reset the password on the tablet?
I used a linux live many times, and I can manage it for easy tasks, but I have never used it to reset or to recover a password on a Window OS.
Thank you, Bob.
If you boot a Linux live image - probably off a flashdrive, unless you have a handy USB optical drive - it can mount the internal NTFS file system and find Security Account Manager (SAM). There are tools that will modify a SAM file to overwrite the password for a user. It's also possible for some tools to brute-force the password, though this can take a long time, or to look it up in a "rainbow table" of pre-computed password hashes (won't work for really complex passwords, though). Forcibly resetting the password will cause you to lose any data encrypted with it, which may include things like passwords the OS was storing for you.
Some stuff that can be used to try and recover passwords (or reset them): http://smallvoid.com/article/winnt-password-recovery.html
There's a bunch of others out there too. Here's another link: http://www.mydigitallife.info/reset...trator-or-user-password-with-chntpw-in-linux/

Can I simply delete the SAM file? I don't think she cares to lose any data so much.
Ok. I was wondering how I can run the usb drive on a windows rt tablet. Is there a "boot device option" like on an ordinary pc/notebook?
Thanks again?:
PS: By the way, where can I find an image of Window 8 rt if I want to totally reset the tablet and install a clear OS?
Aw crap, I can't believe this but I forgot you were talking about an RT device. Forget everything I just said; Secure Boot won't allow it to run a Linux image even if you had an ARM-based one.
Deleting the entire SAM will render the device unbootable. It's not just user account logon details stored there; every account (including the various system ones) are there. On the other hand, if you can extract the SAM somehow, another computer will be able to edit it just fine even though it comes from RT; it's a registry hive and is architecture-independent.
Total reset is probably the easiest option, if she doesn't mind the risk of losing data. It requires a device-specific image though; there should be one (recovery partition) on the tablet, but if that was removed you'll need to find one for download or get Samsung to handle it for you. The Surface RT / 2 images are available here on XDA but I don't know about any of the Samsung tablets.
Go look on the support website (or call support) for instructions on performing a factory reset of the tablet under normal circumstances. That will work if the recovery partition wasn't removed.

Ok, I understood.
Can I somehow install a Window 8.1 pro x86 on this device? It has got an Intel Atom processor, after all.
I need drivers, though.
Thanks again.
Now you say it's a x86 device while earlier it was ARM (Windows RT). Make up your mind, it can't be both!

...hmm actually I'm not sure. The tablet is not mine. I thought it had a Windows Rt OS. But since you say that it can't be an x86 device with an RT OS at same time...I need to find out what it really is. Thanks.
OK
I've finally found out what the OS is?
It's window 8 32bit.
The complete name of the tablet is:
samsung ativ smart xe500t1c-a01it
More, I have it at my home now.
Can we continue the topic?
Thanks
Then the methods GoodDayToDie mentioned in post #4 should work
ok
I fixed it by using Lazesoft recovery.
Thanks
Loss Password? All is not loss, even with the fact you can not boot from a USB stick drive with a password reset tool on it. The answer is actually quite simple with local access to the device Windows 8 is installed on. As long as you can get into recovery by using the "hold volume up" and pushing "Power" button method. You then simply picked Advance Recovery Options till you see Command Prompt in the menu and here's the link that'll take you the rest of the way below. What this does is replace Access Tools (for blind, etc) in Login Screen (lower left corner) with a Command Prompt window. Since it's in with the Root C drive, it makes it quite simple to merely change the password right there and be able to use it to log in immediately.
Thought your computer was safe from hackers locally? Think again (can only be run locally though, not remotely), but if you didn't have this option none of the free or pay4 password reset tools would work either. This is what they are actually doing and then they remove the Command Prompt window when done. Just like you will after using this very simple method. Or you need to use Windows Password Key to reset Samsung password.
