Ok so short story is that we've written off our old 1994 Honda Civic which I had a Brodit active car kit and mount for. So im looking at buying a new (used) car and one that has caught my eye is a 2001 Ford Puma.
Ok so this might sound sad but one of the things i've been checking is if I can get another proclip mount for that model of car (it says something when the choice of car is dictated by my kaiser) but unfortunately according to the proclip website they don't make one for that model of car.
So im just wondering what my options are?
I dislike suction goosenecks as they are in my field of vision and as I want to charge the Kaiser as I go (because of using the GPS) I don't want a cable trailing up to the windscreen.
Anyone got any ideas (apart from some blue tack on the dashboard
What website did you look on? I looked on DSL Developments (where I get my Brodit kit from ) and they've got one for a 2001 Puma (R.H. Drive) - check out http://www.dsldevelopments.com/sitegfx/Brodit_Images/652293-4.jpg
HTH,
Mark.
Proclipusa I looked on, i'll check that link you gave now.
Edit: excellent, plus exactly where I would want it to go (was looking for one for a hyundai coupe as well as that was another choice of car but it was way down near the gear stick)
We have seen phones that have laptop docks for a bigger usable interface. We have seen phones hook into a huge touch screen monitor and work well. Would it be a feasible idea to have a phone plug into a flip up car stereo and mirror the touch screen. I use my phone all the time in the car whether its for music, navigation, information or anything else. It would be great to be able to plug my phone into my stereo and have a bigger touch screen right there on the radio. Just a thought and wondering if its possible.
probably possible. i think it is more feasable to have a hole cut into the dash to house a 4.3'' fone with a usb/headfone jack.

Or just a dock or stand. But this seems like a better idea. It would be a lot easier with the newer cars with usb/3.5mm jacks preinstalled.
It would be cool to see this thread flourish, Car mods! I'm trying to create a dock in my car for my phone, so that I cun use it to control my radio garage navigation or any other instance of automotive life, like even check the status of the engin.

I fancy getting a cheap 5-7" tablet for this job - My 10.1 Gtab would look plain silly mounted as a sat nav and wouldn't last 5 minutes if left unattended.
Try using Vlingo or Google Car Home for starters. Vlingo will read your texts aloud and allow you to reply with using your hands. You can also start navigation or send messages completely hands free by saying "Hey Vlingo!" prompting it to auto listen for the next command.
Next up if the free version of Torque(or paid for if you need).
This connects to your car via a cheap bluetooth ODB2 device (~£15 on the bay)
This will give you access to readings such as mpg, speed and any engine error codes.
There are also plugins such as a video/data recorder.
I can't post links to the android market pages of these apps as I've not made 8 posts yet but they're easy to find!

My ultimate setup that I would like to see would be a radio that has a touch screen flip out that I can plug my phone into and have it mirror my phone. That way I wouldnt have to have a seperate tablet and phone that have a different setup. Essentially this would turn the radio into a mini tablet with your phone being the host for the screen. Thanks everyone for the replies!!
I would dearly love this!
I wuould like it werry much too
It has been my dream for a long time too… They have made it for iphone, maybe we will have it for android too some day.
Please make a google search with the string below (I am a noob. I am not allowed to post links yet):
telematicsnews.info/2011/05/21/video-iphone-screen-duplication-on-in-car-display-comes-to-aftermarket_my2211/
Cheers!
Wonder if it will work with gooapple. And does it just use ur current Pandora app or does it have a Pandora app of it. I just want to use my Pandora app. http://telematicsnews.info/2011/05/...n-in-car-display-comes-to-aftermarket_my2211/
2nd this.

There is a kickstarter campaign product that allows you to combine your phone with the car stereo into a single double-DIN device. Currently, they have working faceplates for the iPhone 4 and 4S but they are developing Android ones as well.
Check it out: [I can't post external links but a simple search of "kickstarter dash" will take you right to it.]
You know, this would be quite simple with an MHL adapter and a method to send touch input to the screen, which im sure is out there.
TFT LCD Developers Kit
There is a developers kit for a 7" TFT LCD, now I realize this is a full microprocessor board. It does run android, perhaps it has something in its code that is usable, or point to what hardware is required to interface with a smartphone.
Not enough posts yet, so just Google this:
LS6410 SAMSUNG ARM11 S3C6410 board kit 7" TFT LCD (Android)
love this thread . im going to get a nexus one or zte blade and mount it up to the space above my stereo . going to put a bigger antenna on it to help boost gps speed. hook it up to power . and have a full size sd card instead of micro sd . wire it to aux audio. it will music and navigation system.
I just bought a 7.0 galaxy plus 3g with this in mind. I got rid of my phone when I bought this tablet too. I spoke on my phone 15 minutes last month and all that was in the car. I can do that with voip...
I intend to do this install on a 2011 wrx. I just bought the JDM radio bezel that is 6.8x3.9 inch cut out (stock usdm is 8" wide). With a bit of dremeling I should be able to slide my tablet directly into the top of the bezel. I plan to put a backing plate so it looks finished with the tab removed. I want removal to be painless. As I plan to use this tablet a lot.
I'll be completely nixing the head unit in my car. To provide power to the speakers I will buy a clarion equalizer and a smallish 300w 4 channel amp probably the nice alpine on amazon for 120 bucks.
Here's where the fun begins! Audio out should be no big deal. I found cables that split the 3.5mm trrs audio into audio out and mic input. So I'll just run rca outs to my clarion eq and run my mic into the device. Done!
My wrx has steering wheel controls. These tie into a stock unit typically. That's no fun. I plan to buy a sparkfun ioio with bluetooth and intercept the SWC signals. Then using the google ADK I can read the pin signals and respond to things like skip track, volume, mode (use mode to switch open apps), pick up, hang up and voice command. I also want to use the ioio to interface with the headlight dimmer and illumination as well.
I just got my tab a few days ago. My bezel should be coming in the mail early next week. Once the bezel is done, I'll rip out the head unit and do the amp and equalizer install. At that time I'll capture the steering wheel control voltages and start hacking on the ioio.
I'll start a project thread for all this once I do the amp install.
Hi Everyone,
Hoping you can point me in the right direction.
I'm putting together a 1990 bmw e30. Single din, no swc of any kind. A basic old school stereo. What I'd like to do is add the center console joystick from a modern bmw that controls the head unit.
Something like this:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/323660787772
I've been in contact with joying tech support, and they tell me I need an adapter of some sort. I'm aware of the android screens that attach to the modern BMW's with a harness, that retain the factory head unit and only change the screen, but I only would like to use this joystick/control . I dont have the rest of the system. It seems like it has 4 wires coming out if that helps. I figure it works the same as a swc.
Does anyone know what adapter the joying tech is referring to? Has anyone successfully done anything like this?
Thanks

these connect directly to the android unit. I know theres others out there that arent preinstalled in the trim piece. this is just the first example I found

SC9853 8-core Intel Airmont with 64GB / 4GB ram... bought it online... supposed to be suitable for my car model, but I'm a bit unsure, and the Chinese seller did not provide much help yet... no instructions nor manual nor wiring diagram...:
my original car: Nissan Teana 250XV from 2010 (model J32, matches the Maxima A35 dashboard/equipment)
So the top LCD display shows the CD number / Radio station / dual Aircon temperature setting.
The backside Radio/CD player:
(deducted the connections from a Google image from Nissan Frontier)
the dark gray is the Antenna radio, the small white should be the Steering controls, the bottom big connector should be for the AC (should not touch), and the remaining plug is the power/speakers wire.
The 2 connections that went into the top LCD display:
I'm assuming the black one goes into the black connector of the Android harness:
I found similar connections on another post, so I deducted:
It came with 2 USB cables, 1 is 4 pin, the other is 6 pin connector... 1st thought they go at bottom in middle, but from the other post it was for MIC-in ?
it should come with instructions and a wiring diagram?!
Can somebody help with explaining what's what?
it seems the harness has a male and female connector, so the female is to connect to the car cable, and the male goes back into the CD/Radio? so the CD player can still function, it's audio should go through an Aux cable?
The antenna cable has not suitable connection, so I suppose I can keep using the stock radio? there's a cut blue wire on the harness labeled Auto ANT, so I could connect this one to the car cable, though would need to figure out how, looks like it has 2 wires (below is for the newer version model L33, but Radio ANT connection looks identical):
Assuming only 1 of the 2 LCD connections need to be used, one of them is black, so I'm assuming this one goes on the black one of the harness...
Sure hope I can sort this out... biggest issue is the head unit seems to be too long to the back, so I have not been able to reinstall, it sticks out... if I install the GPS it sticks out even further, without the GPS this is how far I get....:
the seller claims it can be installed, they did it before with this kind of unit... so shall try again, but to me it looks like I'm hitting the back of the compartment...
Freaking out as have spent 380 USD on it and it took 2 months to deliver (due to Chinese new year / COVID-19)....
Any help much appreciated, thanks a lot in advance!
If the unit has been special been produced for your car, it should be plug´n play.
All connectors are coded. You are not able to misuse any of them.... So what is your problem now???
Well for one besides the unit turning on nothing works: no sound, also the old radio not working, only short beeps when pressing load/eject CD.
To the Head unit I only connected the main power cable, this one also holds the speakers? So should have sound?
Tried setting the steering wheel controls... Also no luck..
Will try to also connect the brown-blue/white cable which has pin count matching bottom left socket below the RCA socket.
Issue may be this Thailand Teana, steering wheel at right side, most units sold for left side...
You mean coded as in wire colors should match? (Only a few cables are labeled, the sockets are not)
Thanks
ok the seller now confirms these are the connections:
the not marked left bottom and right top supposedly have no function...
Only thing left to try is to disconnect the original car stereo plug, so the Android head unit is connected directly to the car cable without the car Radio connected... but that means the original car radio/cd player is not usable...
could also try to use the AUX cable from the Head Unit's RCA connections and connect it to the head jack of the Radio, suppose should get audio then?
will check the wire colors, suppose they should match the harness wire colors? if the unit would actually physically fit my car could correct the socket wiring so it may work for my car?
(I'm assuming a left hand drive car may have different wiring vs. right hand drive car? as nothing works, except for the screen getting power (no sound, no steering wheel control))

That means that the connectors of the cable tree only match to one single hole in the unit.
That has nothing to do with colors of the cables itself. They most probably don´t match.
Just do it, or drive to someone who is able to help you.

yes, you are right, each cable has a different unique fit, not interchangeable, but for the AC cable there are 2 wires it both sockets going to 2 pins, but only one of them matches with the harness connector (so the other wire has no counterpart = dead end due to on different pins), so possible wrong wiring in the harness?
if it's truly plug and play, I should have at least sound, I have no sound... so something's wrong... or does the software need configuration to enable sound?
for the steering wheel controls there's a menu to configure the buttons, but nothing happens, there is however a setting to change the impedance, maybe should try that next.
what about the Canbox?
its purpose is normally for it to act like it would be the car, what's its role here? why is it needed if it's installed in the car? I read online normally it's used to diagnose without the need of the physical car to be present.
The CAN-Box is most necessary part in the set up.
It provides Ignition, power for the amp and the possibility to use the steering wheel buttons.
I would say that you should drive to a car repair shop to get it built in.
Do you have a link for the unit?
Seems seller may not know his own device:
Looks like mine, so the cable I didn't connect could be the CAN input.
Will try later on
Seller wants me to go to a shop where they'll cut out a part of my car to make it fit... Should I? Rather keep everything original....
Says this TS9 always is bigger size for heat disapation...
This is the link where I bought it:

There is too many of these units out there from sellers that don't give enough information with their products. It leaves the end user scratching their head all too often. I purchased a very similar unit to this. Same thing, no support, no instructions, no manual etc etc.
Did you get it to a shop and were they able to sort?

no, I returned it, as I don't want to cut a piece out of my car, and other sellers say it should not be necessary if the correct unit is installed.
The seller thought me to go to the "Extra Settings" menu to select the right car under "Model", after which it updates the MCU accordingly. After this the only thing I got working was the AC temperature control on the screen, had to set the "left / right Peptide" differently to mirror temp setting so Dual setting matches (left and right is apparently the other way around in a left hand side driving car ("peptide" must be a bad translation as that's part of a protein...).
Is the RCA jack to AUX the only way to get sound through the car speakers? (didn't work either, never got sound... I believe the cable was jamming the original CD/Radio, which didn't function with the head unit in between)
glad I got my money back, and recently found a shop here in Bangkok that can sell and install a proper unit, pheww...
For every one that bought this product and is looking to change the look since the default UI is trash.
Specs: If more is needed let me know
HMI: XRCH.D.Q.F.3.04_1.2020.11.30.16.30
MCU: TS907.190518(H)
My Car: E92 335xi No Logic 7 (If you have the logic 7 amp you will need to buy the additional decoder to get the HU working)
I bought my unit off their website instead of Amazon since it looks like it cost more on Amazon. They also threw in reverse cam, OBD2, and Front cam. I paid for 5$ shipping insurance incase I opened it and it was broken which I saw a few on Amazon like that. Shipped and received in 5days.
How to know if you have a logic 7 amp:
Look in the driver's side of the trunk behind the tail light for the long silver box. If there is a black box/amp its the HK/Generic
On the non-nav head unit, there is a large black wire connector and there should be two sets of 8 wires plugged in and then MOST fiber cable.
Their website has a picture but it's not the best.
Steps to change appearance:
1. Download the Nova Launcher from the Google Play Store. (I am a former Android user and switched to Apple so I was not aware of this lol)
Use a Hotspot or connect to your home WiFi
2. Run the launcher and it will have you customize a few options which you can pick what you like.
Steps to add Custom "Baked-in" UI buttons Eonon's UI has:
1. In the Nova launcher UI Hold the center of the screen until the customize options appear.
2. Select Widgets
3. Select and hold Activities. Place it somewhere and a new screen will appear. Can take a few seconds.
4. You should see a list of Apps. Scroll down until you see "com.ts.MainUI8"
This will show all apps that are "Baked-in"
(Optional)
Get an icon pack that you like and edit the icons by selecting one and holding it.
Common Apps you would want:
CarPlay == PhoneLink (Not under com.ts.MainUI8. Just in the list.)
All under "com.ts.MainUI8"
Equalizer == Setup
CarInfo == CarInfo (Seat Warmers, MPG, etc.)
Radio == Radio (There is a CarRadio option but it is not the actual radio)
Settings == Setting (Limited setting not much here)
Things I found that the consumer was not supposed to: (WIP)**
(All of these were found using )
Dev mode (From what it looks like there are more settings here but I have not gone through them all)
Annoying features:
The door chime is now a beeping from the HU. I have not figured out how to disable this. This also beeps for seatbelts and MOST SOS error on the dash.
The screws that come with the HU for the side mounts do not reach the car clips/mounting points and you will need to get 2 1/2" screws.
WiFi signal is not that great but considering it is inside an insolated dash it's probably the reason it does not find networks that great.
Time and Date do not seem to keep after shutting off the car and turning it back on. (Will if you have your hotspot connected constantly)
Can not find the option to disable the reverse cam. (Still looking will update if I find it.)
Have not found a way to root the device. Since I do not think there is a sim card I am looking for an app-based root that will not brick the device lol need to figure out how to back up the ROM remotely. There is a USB so I can probably restore the ROM or I'll just send it back on Warranty (2-year warranty)

Hi,
I bought the GA9465 for my BMW E90.
It works well, however, the radio application can be improved. Indeed, it is not possible to navigate in 10hz steps, only 20.
So it is impossible to switch to a radio frequency 104.40.
Is there a particular adjustment to be made?
eonon is too expensive
