If you're in the UK and bought a keyboardless transformer before April 22, you're eligible to buy a keyboard dock from Asus for 55GBP (~91USD)
Any chance of Asus doing that here in the States?
You cannot be moaning about the price of the dock compared to the UK 'early adopters' deal surely? ...Considering you got the tablet itself for $399.. we had to pay closer to $600 (those of us lucky enough to get some money off deals ordering via Comet that is) with the current exchange rate.. Lets stop this craziness now..
Seriously though.. i guess Asus is going for a slightly different strategy in the US.
Get the tablet out there with a great headline price, then mop up with the accessory at some later date..

A lot of that markup in the UK is for all that VAT/tax that is added in.
20% tax but its still overpriced by probably 100usd

They cannot be found here in the UK either. This has been pointed out quite a few times but seems to be falling on deaf ears. No one - except some reviewers and bloggers - has got a keyboard dock yet, even though who got in on this 'special deal' '. I read somewhere that those particular ones might be arriving next week, but I can't be sure about that.

You can attribute the rest to just merchandise costing more in general over there. It's not just this product. I.E. UK price relative to the xoom still makes it a deal.

It's definitely a good deal compared to the local competition. Even when you take the VAT out of the equation, we are being hosed on the tablet only price when compared to the US.
However, when you look at the bundle (which it seems won't be available in the US) or the "ilovekeyboards" offer, the price differential drops dramatically when compared to a US Transformer and separate keyboard (assuming the $150 price is accurate!) - A £429 tablet + keyboard bundle equates to around $555 when you exclude the VAT.
To be honest, I don't really understand Asus's strategy here as the iPad pricing is pretty similar between the US and UK (excluding VAT of course!), but since I'm getting a keyboard via "ilovekeyboards" the point is rather moot for me!

Dave

transformer $399

What I was trying to day was that the price of the iPad2 in the US and UK is broadly similar when you remove that VAT from the UK price. This is not true of the Transformer, but is mitigated somewhat by the lower cost of the dock.

What's the 'normal' price that they think they're gong to charge for it?
If they think owners are going to pay £100 or even £150 surely they're on crack
Any owner would save themselves some money by selling their secondhand unit and buying another new slate and keyboard combo.
i have emailed them twice now and still had no reply about the keyboard :/
I'm a Brit currently working in the US (Colorado) and am also caught up in the pre-order/stores out of stock mess, but can anyone from the US or UK answer the following question..........
Does the dock/keyboard have different layouts depending on where you buy it? For example on a yank keyboard the @ symbol is above the number 2, but on a brit keyboard by default it's above the ' symbol which would be pressed by your right hand little finger (by girls, secretaries and touch typists )?
I'm in Colorado for another 5 weeks and am wondering whether to chase the dock/keyboard over here and get it cheap or go back to the UK, get raped for my £££'s but get a 'proper' layout
So i want to buy the transformer today, and i was wondering where is the best place to buy? I am in the US, in IL, but because of the quality control issues, I want to be able to take it back if I have to. Also, price is an issue, as it seems to vary. A lot of places have it online, but do any stores carry it yet? As for online companies, they are ok, but it would be nice to at least have a store to return to if i need to..I guess another issue would be getting one of the newer models that might have fixed the power cord issues and some QC issues. I searched for an answer, but I didn't find anything really giving advice on where to buy, now that it is actually in stock in some places...thanks!
Amazon.com. Why pay sales tax? I'm in IL also so I share your pain of living in such a crappy state.
lol i hear ya...especially cook county...but amazon only has them for 453 right now? seems like the price keeps moving around...i have prime too so i would do it, but the extra 50 bucks kills it

I just noticed i have some sort of 10% off coupon on ebay? Has anyone used this? Looks legit...i see the tigerdirect deal for the 32 gb 474...do you guys think there are other reputable ebay sellers?
i am selling mine with extras
up for sale is an asus transformer 16gb with honeycomb 3.1.
comes with a skinomi screen protector not applied , asus official case and alot of goodies on the honeycomb, like games and programs
asking 415 shipped
transformer alone is 399 plus tax and shipping
case is 40 plus tax and shipping
skinomi skin protector is 20 plus tax and shipping
so i am selling it for a hell of a deal cause i need the money
heat is wolf1306
pm me if anyone is interested.
I seem to be having problems with my pms for some reason...i just sent you a message . Are you visioninc on ebay? cause i have a coupon for ebay so i might just use that for your listing. Few questions though...do you have light bleed at all and to what degree, or dead pixels? and do you have a receipt you could give me for the warranty? Why are you getting rid of it? thanks...
Amazon or Newegg for sure. No taxes and 30-day return/refund with no restocking fee!
I bought mine from Toys R Us on Wednesday for 399.99, plus they gave me a $25 dollar gift card that I used towards the purchase. I'm loving my Transformer so far! I just wish I could figure out how to Tether it with my Blackberry
I got mine in Fry's Burbank, CA. Have not run into any problems with it so far and have not seen and noticeable bleeding either.
Got mine at Newegg for $389 with no tax and free shipping by registering a new accounts and using the "newcustomer10" coupon. Not much of a savings but it was the best deal I could find until the TD one yesterday.
Newegg was also was willing to cross ship when I had to exchange my first Transformer due to some defects.
I bought my 32GB from Amazon. The 16GB was $50 more than the original price. I would recommend Best Buy.

Amazon always sell at retail price. The over-retail must have been a 3rd-party seller.
And yes, Amazon are definitely the best place to buy from now that the shortage is over. Amazing customer service and 30-day hassle-free return.

I ended up going with newegg...good call on the new customer code...i used it also...amazon had the 16gb 50 over and it was direct through them...i know its not normal but it was so....newegg has been good in the past and I heard alot of crap about td and their shipping...plus it was through ebay too and that can get interesting...great price though

Yep. After I sent back the defective one, I went into live chat and politely asked that Newegg send out a replacement immediately as I didn't want to have to wait 2 weeks for them to process the RMA and issue an exchange. The rep told me to call their customer service 1-800 number and ask for an "advanced replacement." I did so and a replacement was sent out the next day with their standard 3 day shipping (arrived in 2). Their was no additional charge, just the stipulation that my CC will be charged if the original isn't received within 30 days.
Here is a good deal I found on ebay India, if you missed the firesale or don't have anyone in US to ship it to you or carry it for you - and don't trust yourself to handle to shipping and customs yourself - you can buy it here - a little expensive - but cheap for a tab of such hardware, and now that Android is there on it
Worth the 350$ - as it includes shipping and customs
I don't know the seller, but have bought stuff from them - pretty good - but takes 3 weeks to get stuff - so if u want one :
http://www.ebay.in/itm/HP-TouchPad-...5?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item3f0ebcdf75
But again, I or anyone at XDA staff does not take any responsibility for this
That doesn't seem like a very good deal to me? Those were selling for $149 during the firesale. So you're saying that $200 for shipping it to India is a good price?

Lol. Read this wrong. Thought you meant $200 for an HP Touchpad and he is right it is too much. You can get one in the US for $200.
Why go for a TP for 350$? Get a Asus TF instead or GTab if you want VFM.

I sold my 32GB TP for $280 for which i paid a lot of customs and shipping haha. I don't think its a good deal on ebay. Also the seller cart2...... is just plain bogus, they order your goods after you finish your order on ebay
I agree with archat once can get a better Device for those 350 which is TF, galaxy tab, even gtab is better.
yes cart to >>>>> is total crap...
Read what I said, it's only a good price for those people who don't want to ship it to India themselves or don;t have anyone to bring it from US.
Hardware is same as any other tab and that costs 600-700$, so 350$ is not bad compared.
Your opinion, you can have it
But, 149$ was NOT a realistic price, better to get over that - even HP has.
@Crush : How much customs you paid for it ? You got it for 280$+customs+shipping ? Can you explain
And i don't know about the seller at all - bought twice items were small and reached in time - were exactly the same price as US price.
Just to clear this up for anyone who isn't quite grasping what this thread is about, madnish30 is providing a link to eBay India. If you don't live in India, or need a Touchpad shipped to India, then why are you even posting in this thread?
$150 is NOT a reasonable price for ANY Touchpad. GTF over it. Consider it a one time sale price. US resales of the Touchpad seem to have settled at $200 and $250 for the 16GB and 32GB models respectively.
Considering this and the cost of shipping to India from the US, plus the time it takes to get through customs, $350 isn't a bad price for this tablet. The Touchpad has very good hardware, and is worth the $350 even in the US. It was never worth the full $650 retail price that it originally was, but that's another story.
So, in short, if you don't have any reason to need a Touchpad delivered to India, then don't post in this thread. It really is that simple.
Exactly, well summed up CFB
The touchpad is worth 350$ or more itself, for the hardware _ functionality and the OS too - I agree it's no Galaxy tab, but hey that Galaxy tab comes for 700$ not cheap ! And this is for 350$ for almost the same hardware.
Besides, inclding customs and shipping the seller is earn around 30$ a shipment which is not bad !
250$ is the average cost in US today, so 350$ by no means is bad for India that too including customs !
149$ was a throwaway price, but seriously one need to get over it, it's long gone - and those lucky people who saved a 100$ good for them !
Again, I shared a deal - but nobody is compeling you to buy, you can keep looking maybe one day you find one for 50$ or maybe not
Just curious what some of you think a good price for a used I/O tab might be.
It has two very small marks on the screen but is otherwise in Grade A condition.
I've had trouble selling it on eBay for what I think its worth and am afraid to let it go for too little.
Any opinions?
Anybody want to buy one?

For a used, non-supported device? I was just in Costco and with rebate you can get a new 16GB for $429. MicroCenter was selling them a week ago for $350. The I/O has no collectable value so I'd guess $275-300 would be a reasonable expectation. Keep in mind that new Aconia's, K1's, and Thrive's are all selling for $299 this holiday season at various retailers.
I guess I was shooting a little high, guess I'll have to lower my expectations.
Plus woot had refurbs for 319 a few days ago for the standard 10.1 tab.

I have an I/O tab and would def take it over an standard tab anyday. Also its 32gb, 16gb tabs are just too small. I personally consider it a collectable, im sure there are others that do as well. If you have the box, etc you should do well, iMO

For something to be collectable there has to be scarcity. I've seen a bunch of I/O's on eBay and CL. You guys can list it for $600 or anything you want. The market determines value.
You can't sell it? Id rather have an I/O then the retail wifi one just cause that one looks cooler(to me) but I have the white back wifi so that might be why. So pissed best buy was out of grey when I got it.

I paid $600 which I thought wasn't bad since retail wifi 32GB was $599
I haven't gotten a bid over $460 yet.
Guess I'll just have to bite that bullet.
You have a 32 gig? Id trade ya for my 16 wifi. What's the difference with the io and retail I run task 7 so support doesn't matter.

Hi Everyone,
I have decided to purchase the A500 based on days of reading about this tablet versus the top 3 competitors.
However, where I live, this tablet is either discontinued or sold-out from local vendors.
I do have the opportunity to purchase a "no receipt" BNIB A500 32gb for $360 locally on craigslist.
My question to you is "do you think it's worth it?"
Many of you have read or experienced horror stories of malfunctioning gps, rocker buttons/power buttons failing, bricked start-up out of box, patterened screen, etc etc.
Just need a general opinion if I should risk it, as I have no warranty or return option.
I've come to trust everyone's opinion here, so I apologize if my question is juvenile.
I was never asked by Acer to produce my receipt in order to receive service. They have the tablet at the moment and are fixing a sleep issue. They only asked where I bought it and when.
Is the full size USB leading I to purchase the a500?

Yes, the full size USB is a big factor for me. Other reasons are the availability of roms / incoming ICS, cash price, and screen size.
I returned mine after getting a 32gb with screen flashing issues. My suggestion is to go with A200 brand new thru either Tigerdirect or Newegg for 349.99$ for 16GB brand new. No mini HDMI or Rear camera but ICS has already leaked for it and appears to be the replacement for the A500. There is a reason why its being replaced. I placed my order for a a200 yesterday.

Does the seller know where it was purchased? I have been finding more and more that retailers are keeping track of specific serial numbers. I bought a used DS for my son but the box was torn so I took it to walmart to exchange it and they said it was purchased at Best Buy originally.
That price seems a bit high to me for a used device even if it is listed a BNIB. There is no way to really tell if it is really new. Not too long ago one of the best buy had the 16GB refurbished ones for $279. When I tried to sell my 16GB used, I was getting offers in the $225 range.
I love the hdmi output for watching movies in any format on my TV so the A200 wouldn't work for me but everyone has different uses for a tablet.

I have noticed the same with retailers. The seller states it is shrink-wrapped and unopened, and can be opened in his presence for verification (with cash in hand.)
However, I have decided to not pursue a deal outside of buying from a retailer, as I would be heartbroken should an issue arise that Acer would not agree to fix without potential proof of purchase.
Well I should clarify it would have to be an awesome deal.
Thank you all for your replies. It's so hard to buy a tablet these days, with so many options and promised ICS upgrades!
