Please read carefully!
A very good way of saving battery life is turning the 3G connection on only when needed.
Unfortunately there currently is no api that allows doing that, only two apps that use a workaround and require your special attention for signing.
The first app is Toggle 2G and is made by our fellow member TheMasterBaron and it requires custom signing.
The second one is JuiceDefender's addon "AOSP helper":
The AOSP helper might work on other "pure" AOSP custom ROMs - it just requires signing by the "cook". If you want the AOSP helper to work with your custom ROM, contact me - I'll send you the apk for you to sign.

If you are serious about rom cooking and want to prove so, please post the name and status(Working, which one of the 2 apps?/Not working) of your ROM.
Thanks for your interest
The final purpose of this addition to a custom rom is the ability to switch 3G on automatically(via Tasker or JuiceDefende) when starting preselected apps (like internet) and turning back to 2G mode when speed is no longer required, thus saving a lot of battery)
Please do not post or talk about useless apps like switchpro that is only a shortcut to mobile network settings or widgets that turn off the connection completely.
This is about api level implementation of this feature, if you don't know what that means please refrain from posting,
switchpro widget has workaround to swap 2G/3G
Juice defender is great control everything you need

Smoda widget does 2g/3g switching
This thread is for rom cookers only and is about switching from 3G to 2G (not turning internet off) automatically (not by entering the settings menu from a shortcut)
Would love the jd to work.
Funny thing - it actually works on froyo (at least jpc).
Try reading the setup log, AOSP plug-in install always fails (JPK).
Didnt use anything newer than JPC, but I installed and used AOSP helper on it (that was quite a long time ago). JD version was something like 2.1.8 (agcourse dont remember the exact version, just guessing).
This is certainly valuable info, there was a note somewhere about these two apps being able to work on leaked roms.
well, def doesn't work on JPK
I would love this though, I hate having to disable the APN or switch it to GSM just so my batt doesn't die in 12hrs. if it could go 3G only for internet/youtube etc and 2G for everything else that'd be awesome
Yup, that's what I want, but we have to get the cook's attention first
I have code that can switch 2G/3G on SGS stock ROMs. Haven't released it yet though, as for now it only works on GSM, and on some other devices it pops up the PIN screen for some reason. Haven't figured out exactly why yet, but it works great on my SGS, anyways.
It'll be released soon ... (I'm actually working on a WMLongLife port to Android)

Sweet.
Any chance for auto-2g/3g toggle when the screen goes off? That would be really nifty!
..and maybe a bit buggy too.
I'd rather have something I can use with Tasker to create my own rules.
Yup, a working app is all we need and Tasker can do the rest
I only want to use it for selected apps like the browser, market etc.
I also thin it would be best to have an app for on and one for off to ease the toggling process and not accidentally turn it on instead of off since I don't know if Tasker can check the GSM status this way (and if it does it would require a new rule making it more complicated)

What we really need is "Tasker" to be Android-native like it is on the iPhone. And control over communication without Google breathing down our necks too much. The whole existence of this topic is because Google set it up for 2-way data gathering with both parties (you and the application) having an equal say in the matter. Both parties can bend this mechanism to their liking somewhat in practice.
Ummm... google didn't provide the api, that's it... There's no issue with tasker.
There's plenty of alternatives(2 as far as I looked) for this particular "task" but the switch is what's missing.
Maybe we'll get the api in a later version and various coding tricks won't be required anymore.

The point with Tasker (and alternatives) is that you get about 80% of what you want/ need (in
Eclair) which might be enough for what you want or totally inadequate. It cannot truly detect (let alone intercept) an application start or exit, but will in general always lag behind the facts. In Froyo this becomes especially clear as there are even less hookups for work-arounds causing pathetic behavior at times.
What good is it to have a 3G/2G switch if you cannot let it start before your browser, unless using a script + custom icon. How do you detect if you left the browser if Tasker (for instance) treats any change of application (even switching) as leaving the previous one? In Froyo this currently means that it actually waits till you start a new application before it "sees" the exit of the previous one, which you left a minute ago. You really want native control over these things as well.
But enough of this.

Uh, how so? I used it for quite a while and I haven't seen any lags or issues in task execution.

The Elite Blade_Rom 2.3.5 seems to be an excellent version of the official 2.3.5.
According to the XDA rules, user discussions should be here under Blade General and not under Blade Android Development.
Thus, any user comments, please!
My experience is good. I re-partitioned ROM before installling, giving plenty of memory for apps.
ZTE Dialer and LauncherPro are included. The only thing I miss on Elite Blade is a circle battery mod. I got one from Huexxx that works fine. I don't know if that file is posted anywhere, but I can send copies of my file on request.
It's a Wifi fix for the Zte blades (Wifi) Chipset problem. It will refresh the connection
after a sleep wakeup.
Perfect
Hi elitemovil,
thanks for the new kernel.
Works great, stable and smooth. I installed the two patches, store all 3 files on the SD card before doing the ROM flash. Bat drain very low on 2G but high in 3G.
Great ROM!!
Stuck @ green droid
I'm getting stuck at the green droid after trying to install EvilRom 2.3.5. I can't get past it, even if I try to flash the rom I knew that was working before.
1. Started from CM7.1
2. Installed the rom + kernel + fix (recovery)
3. Got stuck on the green droid
4. Installed CM7.1 rom again (recovery)
5. Still got stuck on the green droid.
6. Read the fine prints on the rom page
7. Partitioned SD to the instructions (recovery)
8. Transfered roms to new SD partion
9. Flashed rom + fix + kernel (recovery)
10. Still stuck at the green droid.
I saw people in the proper thread had the same issues, but what I really want to know is how to get past it.
I did the TPT upgrade recommended in the EliteRom thread. Worked like a charm to get my angry hulk droid away from my phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19211900&postcount=27
So far so good. I clearly notice how smooth EliteRom already when I'm selecting language in the start. If the developer read this, you should put the TPT upgrade in the installation procedure/text so everyone does it.
I also had to TPT Gen2 v9.
I have 2 problems with this rom.
1 - Lots of apps dont allow to move to sd (in CM7 it was possible), like "Whats App, Circle Launcher, Handcent, iGO8", etc
2 - When writing SMS, it goes very slow in the input. In the beguining of the text it goes fast, but after about 100 chars, it gets really slow. Not only with default app but also with handcent. One time i read it was because of char count... Maybe is swiftkey keyboard...
Move apps to SD SOLVED with:
ADB - ./adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2
data off after sleep
Hi everybody!
I have used Blade for a year. I used JJ, then Swedish Spring, then GSF. I don't like CM 7.1 because I absolutely want the ZTE Dialer, where Contacts has an extra tab for my groups.
Thus Elite Blade is an excellent choice.
Presently I have 2 Blades (one is extra spare).
On my regular Blade I use Elite Blade 1.1 and on my extra Blade I have installed Moldovan Mile-High-Mountain-Pie RLS6 as a reference. Every night I try to make statistics of battery consumption. My goal is to find a ROM and configuration with minimal battery drain. Every second night I switch batteries, so that the old battery and the new battery should not affect result. Sometimes I wipe battery stats from Recovery.
On both phones I try to make identical setup:
Partitioned ROM to 160 mb, 2g only, all data on, wifi on, widget news&weather sync every 6h, Facebook sync every 4h, JuiceDefender, LauncherPro, Gmail, Google+, Lookout, Titanium Backup.
On both phones I have noted nightly battery drops between 10 and 20% so I can't make any conclusions so far. Perhaps I should measure over longer time span, or use apps such as BetterBatteryStats.
But one thing is strange:
Both in the Elite Blade, and on the Moldovan Mile-High-Mountain-Pie Blade, sometimes mobile data is OFF (deactivated) after the nightly sleep, despite that I alway set it to ON.
I verify this by using the advanced power widget. When I pull it down from the main screen, sometimes the mobile data button is OFF (grey), resulting that the Data box in settings is unchecked. I don't think I touched (deactiveted) it by mistake. I touch the button again so that it is green. I expect mobile and background data to be always ON when I wake up the phone. Does anybody know what can cause this? Some strange app or some setting?
I now remove all un-needed junk that uses data, such as Facebook and widgets, then continue testing.
Edit 12.11:
I removed news and weather widget, facebook, Juice Defender, Lookout, Google+ on both test phones. During this nightly test, both phones used 10-11% battery durung 10 hours, with all data and wifi on. Data was not disabled. Thus my trouble may have been caused by e.g. JuiceDefender

Don't know. Probably no difference since they are based on same code. You should overclock to about 700 mhz for games.
I've just installed the S2 version with the updated kernel from 17/11/2011 ... and everything seems to working fine.
I've just reinstalled all my apps and settings with TB and all went well.
Very fast and smooth rom.
I'll looking forward to see if battery drain is ok ... It's obvious I can't tell now (just installed).
I have very bad connection with about all roms on my work , so will try this rom.
If it'(s the same , I'll keep it for sure ,and will look for an other carrier.
Thanks you elitemovil for this rom.
Hi 2 all!
I use the s1.1 rom on my ZTE Libra.
I would like to thank Elitemovil for this GREAT ROM! This is the best rom I've ever had! It's a leader in battery life - i can use my Libra without recharge for about 2-3 days! Earlier i tried CM7(1 day) and GSF(1,5 day).
Only one a little question i have:
can i change the buttons in power-widget on status line? I don't need the wi-fi, bt, gps buttons. I need 3G-2G, Sync, Sound buttons instead of them.
Kuoi, I'm eagerly awaiting your feedback of the S2.
Two questions:
a) How does the battery life, speed and memory consumption of this ROM compare to the previous (Froyo stock) ROMs?
b) Are there a any bugs/problems/todo/open issues for this ROM?
I would like your opinion before I flash this ROM.
Please and thank you in advance.

1 : I can't tell for now , I'll now charge full and will calibrate then . Overnight was -0% , so the overnight drain is proven to be good ;-)
2 : Didn't found any bugs or fc or anything. I even have connection with my carrier ;-)
Hope this helps a bit , Kuoi
By accident I found this discussion thread in the Blade General subforum.
I'm just wondering if it couldn't be useful to post experiences about this ROM in only ONE thread. And as there is an original thread, why not there?
Correct me if I'm wrong...

Until then, give feedback, please.

...battery life,speed and memory consumption?
I have not moved to Android 4.0 so far mainly due to the camera issues. Now it seems the chefs have finally resolved these issues and there are a few ROMs out there that are 'fully working'. I have tried a few of these and am fairly impressed so far - I have managed to import the ROM into the DSIXDA kitchen and add my own apps & customisations etc - so a big thank you to everyone for your work.
In my testing I have hit an issue with the Internet Calling functionality (SIP) in that I cannot make calls - I can receive them but cannot make calls. I have tested three different ROMs so far and all exhibit the same behavior (not ROMs I have cooked; ROMs I have downloaded - Blackout 3.0, Sabsa 3.0). I have two DHD's - my everyday one that has a 'stock' Android 2.3.5 ROM (3.12.405.1 rooted with my own apps etc) and this works fine so I know it is something in the Android 4.0.x ROMs. It appears to be the SIP proxy authentication that isn't happening with the 4.0.x ROMs although I haven't gone through the Wireshark traces too deeply yet.
Does anyone else use Internet Calling and have it working with Android 4.0.x?
Andy

Erm thanks for the reply, however if you read what I wrote I have two DHD's both with the same SIP configuation - the one running Andorid 2.3.5 works, the one running Android 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 does not. Both DHD's are on the same WiFi network via the same Access Point, the only difference is the version of Android.
'Just tested with Nik Project X and the behavior is the same. Has anyone got an'official' Android 4.0 device that can test this? i.e. is it just an Android 4.0 issue or an issue specific to the DHD?
Hey just wanted to report that HydraCore v7 does work with AOKP 4.1.2 and together its just awesome!
I'm still using AOKP 4.1.2 because I don't like the changes in 4.2.2 with the new lockscreen n that ****ty (imo) notification toggles.
AOKP 4.1.2. gives you weather + calendar entries on the lockscreen plus weather on notification bar (no other rom has that afaik).
The latest nightly build for 4.1.2 from sixstringsg even supports s-pen gestures! (like starting an app on double tap with the spen)
But unfortunatly some apps which also use the spen crash when you use the button inside the applications with gestures enabled.
(BUT you dont have to enable the gestures, theres an option to toggle them on and off inside the aokp rom control)
(im currently loading sources and on my fresh ubuntu vbox to try n fix that bug)
The combo of AOKP+Hydracore is just so great. With hydracore its even more snappy plus you have OC capability on AOKP!
Just wanted to let ya guys know, I guess this could be interesting to some.
(maybe together we can get s-pen gestures to fully work?!)
Here the link of the rom (nightly build from November 2012):

For HydraCoreI have no current link available right now, but I'm sure you will find it.
Thank you
Thanks for sharing. Im looking for performance VS battery AOKP 4.1.2. Any (new) suggestion?
I shouldnt have praised the setup - now things start to get a bit ugly, had a few restarts, currently investigating =(
use hydracore Nirvana... it fixed a lot based from hydracore v7...

probably due to high OC... or undervolting...
some CPUs cant handle very high Clock speed and very low Volting...
Unfortunately the HydraCore v7 doesnt let you enable logcat, not even as a module (at least it didnt bring its own).
I tried HydraCore v7 with both the 4.0.4 and the 4.1.2 Version of AOKP now and what I found is that the System Load is constantly high (over 2.00) with hydracore. So it seems there is some kind of hog which causes this high load and which in turn causes a reboot if the load stays over the cpu count (2.00) for a while or because of some chaincrash occuring in the background maybe.
Or is this just an "error" in hydracore to report such high system load? I mean those numbers you get when you enable cpu usage overlay in dev options.
I did use hydracore on TW based roms in the past afair and didnt get any reboots, but it could be related to OC/UV yea. Thing said my Note is VoltGroup B.
I looked at nirvana, but it doesn't over OC capability and has far less tweaks than the original hydracore, so I was hoping to get this thing working. But it seems to have its problems with the AOKP framework. (the high system load?!)
Just to know if you guys want something for my rom
Battery Life. Even Underclocking isn't increasing battery life with BORETS24's kernel, do something that'll increase the SOT ! I don't get more than 3 hours of SOT with any ROM, Kernel.
Stable gps during using waze or other gps app....no more gps lost connection plz
i would expect a simple build, with no bloadware and of course stable even with a a501cg. iirc most problem are with that device.
list of expectations(mine and the others)
- stable
- no bloadware
- simple installing/autoinstaller (there is a simple-to-customize autoinstaller mentioned in this forum)
- possible to choose gapps installing by choice in one install process.
- gps
- led functional
- battery life
Simple Rom (like a pizza without any topping. User can select toppings )
Stability (GPS, wifi, data connection, bluetooth, and of course the device itself. Sudden restart is really terrible.)
DT2W/S
Battery life
LED with color (if possible)
I'd love to have another UI. To get the CM12.1 drop-down menu instead of Asus one.
Provide and alternative to borets' kernel: it has great features, but for me was and keeps to be more battery eating (I think due to the dt2w and overclock integration) than even a stock one.
