Big Problem since ics - Xperia Arc General

Hey, i Updates my gf's xperia arc s to Android 4, but now there are two big problems. The first ist, that the persons in the sms app are static, so if she receives a sms, the person from whom she got it isn't on top, but, as all others too, always in the same position. The second problem is, that she can't turn on the mobile network.
I hope you can help me thx

Are the APNs set in the mobile network settings? You might need to set them up again, since they're not transferred, unless they were backed up.

What ist APN? Where can i find it? And it you don't mind, could you make a screenshot? Because English isn't my native language and I'm not sure if I can find it
Thank you
Edit: Now both works again! Sms works again without me doing something, and for the mobile network I went to the Telekom site and there you can send yourself a configuration sms for the mobile web, what I did, and then it worked again
Thx for your help

MMS Problems? Sending...

So i looked around for a bit on here for MMS problems, and i couldn't find anything. When i was running WinMO 6.5 i could send MMS just fine. My friend rooted my phone with Android, and now when i send MMS it just says sending...
and never sends the message. I sent something last night, and when i woke up it still said sending...
Is there a fix for this? i do have MMS service enabled though T-mobile, and i can receive picture messages just fine. I was using stock app for the messaging, but then i though, hmm, i saw one on the market. so i used Handcent and the same problem occurred. Help would be greatly appreciated
edit; now i asked a friend to send me an MMS, and it says downloading and never downloads either!
I also have the same problem. But if you wonna receive the pictures just turn your mobile data on and then go to mms and click download. It should work but this doesn't seem to work with sending the MMS.
Same here, just need to know that modules work together with the mms.apk
Check and see if the data is enabled. That may be a solution.
The thing is I don't have data so I have it off at aall times
Edit: just turned on data for the Lulz to see If it would work, nothin :/

Help!! Daughters phone problems

I've searched but this is a recent problem and I found nothing exactly like what's happening to my daughters phone.
She has a completely stock desire z, on bell. She's had no problems really until tonight when she can't send messages to certain contacts? Or maybe she can't send messages to them until they send to her first. It's one of the two scenarios. Sorry I'm not much help, I'm on a samsung captivate. This is a recent issue as I said, and I should let you know she did her update through the phone to 2.3.3 recently, but things were fine after that update, just thought you should know.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Is there some type of blacklist option in the menu of the SMS/Messaging app?
I recently blacklisted a whole bunch of contacts in CM7. Before this, I had no idea that this was possible. I don't SMS much, so I have no idea if this was blocking SMS. But calls were not going through at all.
Maybe looking into if the same thing exists on the stock Bell ROM is a good place to start?
download handcent or chomp from the market(free), and see if using one of those fixes your issue. I had the same sort of issue, it worked for me and also I prefer handcent over any htc or stock android sms app. good luck
sent from something they thought nasa built
Thanks for the replies, I'll look into them both.

Also check that the phone numbers in her address book are listed as mobile numbers, not home or work.
I always suggest this first, factory reset.

Oh, I see you are also in Canada. When they made the area code mandatory before all numbers I had to edit some of my phone numbers in my contacts to include the area codes, or I would have the same problem.

Did you already perform a crosscheck by placing your simcard in her phone and vica versa?
Is she has the same issue using your phone but with her simcard, it's not phone/software related.
its on bell thats the problem
joking aside id try handcent or go sms, and double check she has the area codes put in. shouldnt matter if its saved as a mobile number as you can even text landlines now in canada and they convert text to speech on the landline end! unless bells rom has its own unique ability to not let u text a "home" or "work" number.

Nexus 4 - no outgoing or incoming calls possible

Hey there,
I got my new Nexus yesterday and just discovered no outgoing or incoming calls are possible whereas SMS and apps like Whatsapp work fine.
Does anybody have an idea about this problem or what I can do to find out what it might be related to?
Thanks a lot!

This may sound stupid, but do you have a sim in it?
Two things:
1. Who is your service provider?
2. What are your APN settings are you using?

Of course I have SIM in it. How am SMS supposed to work without
My service provider in Germany is O2. But I don't know how to get detailed APN settings I can just give you the name with is "o2 internet".
Does this help in anyway?
Are you using lte? If so make sure to not set use lte only, otherwise you will not be able to make calls in certain areas.

You don't need APN settings for calls -_- Try enabling 2G only, then ring O2 to check your account and any service issues in your area.
Can you try another sim? My sim once broke and I couldn't call anymore, but I could send and receive messages.
i'm having the exact same issue now :| I can't hear anything on the earpiece or speaker nor can my friends hear me speak :/

[Q] Nexus 4 MMS problem

I have a Nexus 4 (bought from Google) with the stock ROM and it's up to date running 4.2.2 on T-Mobile USA. I've tried reading up on the problems that others are having with their Nexus 4 and MMS and no one seems to be having the exact problem that I am having. I always turn my data off so I conserve battery power, it has never given me problems with other phones in terms of receiving/sending MMS messages, data would come on briefly when receiving/sending an MMS with other phones, but the Nexus 4 doesn't do that automatically. When data is on I receive them fine it seems. For a while I didn't know why I wasn't getting MMS messages. Then I installed LightFlow lite for the LED notification colors, I gave MMS messages and SMS messages different LED notification colors. Then I would get notified only by the LED notifier when an MMS was coming through, but I still wouldn't get the message, nor was there an audible notification. Sometimes I am able to turn on my data before opening the messaging app (stock one) after I notice the MMS LED notifier blinking. Other times they will come through the next day when I turn the data on, and sometimes I never get them. This is the only phone that has done this, my Android HD2, Sensation, and other phones haven't given me any problems, whether I had the stock ROM or changed it out. The problem seems to lie in how the data from the cell tower doesn't get turned on by the messaging app when the MMS is being sent/received. If I knew how to enable the messaging app to be able to do that, then I wouldn't have that problem. I have also tried using the facebook messenger/SMS app and I think goSMS, I don't remember either one helping the situation.
Please don't respond with "well turn your data on" or "this isn't a problem because you have your data off, so you don't receive MMSs". I'm used to my other phones turning the data on when an MMS is coming through. This one does not, I like being able to stretch my battery life.
Can this be alleviated by changing out my ROM? I'm wanting to swap ROMs anyway, so I've been researching which ones I would like to switch to. The other reason I want to change ROMs is I'm having problems with other stock apps that I can't uninstall and reinstall, like google maps always says my GPS is turned off when GPS and data are both on. I can use the mapquest app fine without getting the GPS error, it's something with google maps.

Ok your issue is that those other phones would automaticlly turn your data on when an MMS would come in and then turn it back off. This has to built in on the OS level which AOSP doesnt support. You are not gonna find anything to fix this.

ok. so since it is an OS level thing.then it would depend on what the developer has done with the new ROM that I install then? Maybe I'll end up getting a ROM that would work then?

They would need to add it to the AOSP source code in the messaging app but do to the restrictions that AOSP has for programs changing system settings, I wouldnt bet on it. Non of the roms here work that way. I use AF firewall for to control data

My "auto retrieve" is selected, and always has been to my knowledge. My problem is the MMS not getting sent or received when I have my data turned off. The messenger app isn't turning on the data to allow it to be sent/received.
I do like the idea that zelendel stated about using the firewall. I hadn't thought about that.

Yeah, my plan is 200 MBs a month. I selected that, I don't need more. I only check email, facebook, forums, and do google searches from the phone, and the occasional directions. It never goes over 50 MB, unless a few apps start hogging data (geico brostache app for example). It's either ads or geico is collecting data about my location/driving. I have to kill it with my app killer after I use it because it will go over my 200MB limit after a few days.
Yeah I use AFwall donate. You can set it up to allow apps to only use Wifi or cell data, none or both.

[Q] messages, or google hang out with crashing upon sending or receiving an s_m_s msg

thank you in advance. I have an LG g2 d802 which I purchased through Amazon. The phone was working perfectly in the US with AT&T. I then brought the phone to Venezuela where I tried using SIM cards from two different carriers. With both carriers I have the same problem. When sending or receiving an SMS message, whichever app I have set as the default app crashes with no way to send a report, just a dialog box saying the app crashed. I tried wiping the phone from the phone's settings user interface, as well as installing t w r p and wiping from that. I have tried 2 different firmwares for the 802 which I found on the internet, with different version numbers of the system, and still the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could still try at this point to get messaging working?
Thanks
Greg
wow! No one has any suggestions? Anything would be appreciated!
Can you logcat it maybe? Try to pull out your simcard, flash the right kk basebands flash the rom and reboot and reinsert the simcard again maybe it works normally then. I will think of some ideas and i will repost it here again.
Maybe you need to do some build.prop modifications to set the region or what. Does your phone says to which cellular network is connected?
thank you so much! The phone has no sim card, and you can't pull the battery. I did install wildcat and I'm seeing a lot of errors relating to the telecommunications database not being available. Now I'm seeing things like 08-22 12:01:32.128 E/DatabaseUtils(1583): ¿at com.android.providers.telephony.MmsSmsProvider.getThreadId(MmsSmsProvider.java:1332)
thanks again for the reply. I believe the phone was originally from Singapore as it had SingTel apps on it. I have tried flashing a few stockroms from other regions but nothing has worked. I'm going to have to read up about the KKbuild and build prop as those are new terms to me.
Update - I tried using build prop editor to change the locale region from u_s to venezuela and it keeps default thing back to u_s. Maybe this is part of the problem? I did use the phone on a_t_&_t network before bring it to venezuela.

yes my phone does show the network it is connected to, and I can make calls just fine and I can even use the data connection. there are two carriers here in Venezuela for which I have SIM cards, with one of the carriers I am able to receive the carrier's SMS messages which show my remaining prepaid credit, but other messages from other sources crash the messaging app. With the other SIM card I have, even the messages from the carrier crash the messaging apps. So with one carrier it almost works.
I'm in a part of the country with very poor internet but in early September I will have good access and can download roms etc and can follow the instructions you gave me. Thank you! Greg

Thank you so much! That did it! What's interesting is that before installing that app my phone would not automatically get the APN information from the sim cards. I had to enter it manually. After installing the app now the phone gets the APN information from sim cards. So not only does installing that app fix the problem with messaging crashing, but it restore is the proper interaction with the sim cards. Obviously that app contains something that's missing from the stock l_g firmware.
