You 100% positive that you are still on 3G when tethering? Sometimes it will cut down to EDGE depending on signal strength. Plus do you do the speed test app RIGHT before or after tethering and in the same location? Secondly, how are your internet speeds using wired tethered? Maybe your computers wireless NIC is faulty.
I get hspa when I do the speed test. I can do one before and one during and post the speeds here if that helps. i dont do usb tetherin
Phone was left in the same place
***4.9 meg before tethering turned on
***3.8 meg after tethering turned on

Ok now connect your PC and go to speedtest.net and try a speed test on there using your computer.

I think the wifi on my G2 is acting up. I don't know if these are normal speeds for phone wifi, but here goes:
Right now I'm getting 24 Mbps when I'm about 30 feet away from my router and behind one wall. I'm on a linksys wireless N router. I can get you the model number if you need it.

I'm not quite understanding your question? Is your G2's wifi downlink 24mbps because that isn't slow at all.
24mbps is what's listed when I go into settings and tap on my network.

24Mbps to an N router 30ft away? Yeah that's really slow...
I had problems downloading files from my server on my LAN via wifi... it was ridiculously slow.
Simple question, will a b/g NIC card be compatible with the Wireless tether app below.

no offense but i kind of have the feeling your just trying to get to the 10 post cutoff.
Actually, I had no idea the cut off was 10 posts. And the reason I know the wireless tether you mention works with a b/g wireless card is because thats is the intended purpose of it. And its the app I use on almost a daily purpose for work.
Just a word of advice, I had issues getting security working with reasonable speed, I ended leaving it disabled.

i believe it was developed for b/g/n but i will take your word for it if no one else comes across
Yes, my laptop with a B/G card works just fine tethered to my B/G/N phone. It just only runs at G speeds (like that matters anyway given the cell uplink is much slower anyway.)

I never use tethering, but my connection is down, so I get setup and this blows. It's so slow, pages just time out and I keep getting intermittent DNS errors.
THIS is what people are all gaga over?

Are you tethering in an area where Sprint's 3g is slow?
Is there an area where it's not slow?
Btw, I tried wireless and USB tethering. Both sucked
Swyped From The Hippest Phone Using XDA Premium
All depends for me. Obviously it'll vary with area. I only break it out for the chromebook when I absolutely need it.

Plenty of areas.
Not here, apparently, but then everything here sucks

It must just be your area. I tether my EVO connection all the time and have no issues. I use it for browsing as well as playing games on xbox live and netflix. It works great.

Works perfectly fine here.

It "works" here...but it's something I use in a pinch. I got an overdrive to reduce my hassle factor. Same signal and it's far faster.
maybe im crazy but does wifi hotspot work with 4g? I swear my tethering is pretty damn fast when i turn on 4g...
Are all of yall paying for hotspot or is it the wifi tether and can u post speeds please on 4g

Hey hipkat...my wireless tether is almost twice as fast as my home WiFi. And my home WiFi is pretty damn fast....Works great for me.
You guys are lucky then, and today, I used USB tethering again, and damned if it didn't kill my WiFi... again.
I get a connection, but nothing will update, browser won't connect, etc. They all say no connection.
I'm not even sure how I fixed it yesterday. I think it just came back "on"

Are you using Windows 7? I had that problem with my moms computer (running win7) after I setup easytether for her. It didn't want to connect to WiFi. I have had no problems on my pc running Vista.

At home I average about 4-5mbps down, 1.0-1.5mbps up.

Either you're maxing on 4G or you're 'laxing' on the home internetz. Either way, many of us won't have 4G touching our home service.
As for speeds, and people saying 'it's fine here,' it all depends. Obviously area and coverage is going to dictate speeds. As stated, if Peoria sucks, well it sucks and it will be mirrored in your efforts to tether. You can't tether faster than your available speeds. Naturally.
I can get amazing speeds around campus but around home it's 'meh.' So, naturally, when tethering around school it's usually decent but around here it isn't. Make sense? Thank the good (raptor) lord for the WiFi.
It should be obvious that coverage and native speeds dictate your connection.
Anyone know where I can find tether drivers for XP? I tried the tetherxp.info from android.com but when I try to install them it says its not for my phone. IM using MIUI if it makes a difference.
Also plz no links to tether apps.

Wow... You can not control your speed only YOUR ISP can..
Unless he means Wi-Fi and if you have 54g 802.11g you will be maxed out. If wired is faster then just get a wireless router and disable the wireless on the modem.

Depending on the interference. My wireless router in an apartment only maxes at 10 or maybe 11 Mbps because of interference. It may be slow on Wi-Fi or it may not be.

If this physically works out for you, place the laptop within range of the router and host your laptop as a wireless access point/wifi via ICS(internet connection sharing) within Windows to your Android phone
So it would be like Router ---> Laptop ---> Android piggybacked where the phone is the one not in range of the Wifi
Another option is to upgrade your router/laptop to a longer range. If you're on N, upgrade to Ac if your wallet allows it
or just buy a Wifi range extender.
seems a bit sublime to be trying to use a mobile device which is likely to move all over the place as a range extender - when the problem that needs to be solved involves distance & orientation relative to fixed stations.
