Guys,
somehow B&N Launcher became set as default and now I cannot access ADW Launcher or any Android applications. Basically I am stuck at B&N screen, which totally sucks. How can I recover from this, short of rerooting the device?
Thanks for your help.

Can you access button savior?
If so try installing another launcher (say Launcher Pro) using adb or the google play website and click on the button savior home button. Installing a new launcher resets the choice.
If you dont have button savior working, I dont know

Button Savior was no help, since home button just took me to B&N launcher, which got setup as default.
However, installing Launcher Pro via Google Play worked and now I get the choice of launchers I had before. Thanks for help!

Here's a little trick that may help several of you.
Requisites: Nook touch rooted (with touchnooter), Button savior, Opera, and a touch of stupidity.
The other day I decided to default the Nook launcher in button savior as this is what I use the most at the moment… or so I thought. The issue is that, once using the stock Nook launcher, one has no more access to anything but the stock Nook set of apps. Even button savior does not allow to use Go Launcher Ex. And there is no way to access the Nook Color tools or any other prefs. Searching for file onto the SD card leads to only findings in 'my library' and B&N's shop. This really sucks
So how to revert without re-flashing everything and loosing all apps?
1. Go in setting, search for www.google.com
2. Open Opera (hopefully you installed a more capable browser than the stock…)
3. Then search in Opera for home manager apk
4. Get it from the developer homepage (http://sites.google.com/site/droidcarp/home/home-manager)
5. Download it and save it in your download folder.
And here comes the neat trick:
6. From within Opera's download manager, run the app.
7. Finally kill the stock Nook launcher…
I eventually uninstalled Home manager, because it constantly leaves 2 notifications in the notification bar. These allow to switch launcher seamlessly, but since it is also present in the button savior app… what's the point.
There's probably other ways to do what I described above. But at least this method does not request a computer
Almost!
When I attempt to run the app from Opera the message says "For security your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in Android Market."
Besides this, is there anyway to go back to go launcher ex as launcher (when using button savior), as I dummingly defaulted nook launcher in button saviour?
In this moment I don't have internet connection for the nook
Well managed to find a wifi connection and did the way from the previous post. If anyone has a better idea for future mistakes.
Another way is to install Relaunch with adb.
With this app, when you click on Home in the n button menu, you can start Relaunch and then start any app.
Gotta try that, mdall. I hope it doesn't happen again, but if it does, I'll have it around
I picked this up on sale the other day. I like it but when I press the home button it takes be back to the default launcher screen, can't figure out how to fix that (I have used open home to make it default).

ADW Settings>General Behavior>Gestures>Home Button Binding
From there you can pick what you want the home button to do...hope this helps man..
Tried that but its not sticking... hmm thanks anyways
Ok now I see the problem. Using home switcher when selecting my default home app it is not keeping the adw launcher. For some reason it is reverting back to the stock android launcher.
Fix its, just cleared everything in manage apps...
A problem i have
I just installed ADW launcher on my tab and for whatever reason the damn "menu" icon won't go away on my homescreen. Its right next to the multitask button and it refuses to go away. I have seen many people who use adw not have this problem any ideas?

When you first installed adw and pushed the home button for the first time, you should have been given an option (pop up menu) to either go to the stock launcher or adw, and under those two options theres a checkbox to make it your default choice. You may have accidently checked it and went to the stock launcher.
I'd try going into settings/applications/all and find the stock launcher and if you select it than there should be an option to clear defaults for that app.

I know the last few updates for adw has had some issues so I'm not sure if this is one that people are complaining about.
But what I did was create a shortcut to show/hide the action bar.
Just long press the screen, than go to launcher actions and select hide/show action bar. I also replaced the icon with a transparent png so it's invisible on my screen.

I see what youre saying.
This must be something they added with the latest updates, but I can see why they did. If you use adw on a phone pressing the menu button brings up options for the launcher. These options are customizable by the way and actually come in handy. So maybe their just trying to make it more uniform to phone versions.
But I dont think theres any way you could get rid of it, adw is calling for the os to display the button, so unless theres a setting with in the app or unless you edit the apk youre stuck with it lol. The older versions like the one Im running now dont have this, so thats why you didnt see other users with the issue.

Thank you! ill make sure I "legally" obtain this version to try out!
Solution.
I have been using ADW Launcher EX version 1.3.3.55 and I think this solution will work with other/older versions as well.
Search the Market for: Home Manager. Once you install and run this app it will give you the option to clear default then select the the default home you want. I've been using this myself and can assure you it works. I suppose it enables a service that ensures the default home settings 'stick'. Anyway once you're done and it works then you can disable the the status/notification bar option in the app as it doesn't need them running to function properly. Happy Home Skinning!
I recently rooted my Nook Color with ManualNooter 5.02.19 and everything worked like a dream.
However, I accidentally made the default long press going to the B&N normal home screen, as opposed to the Zeam Launcher. Now, once I accidentally go to any screen that isn't associated with the Zeam Launcher, I can't get back into those keys! I'm such a dummy - if I reboot, and unlock the screen, there it shows me to get to the Zeam Launcher, so I can change settings, I just don't know where to go.
It popped up where I should go to change this, but unfortunately, I didn't catch it Can anyone please advise?

No sure where it is in stock, but you need to find where your app information is in settings and clear the default for B&N launcher. Then the next time you long press, it will ask what you want to do.

Once you reboot, and are in the Zeam Launcher, go to the app "NookColor Tools" --> All Settings --> Manage applications --> All --> Zeam Launcher --> Clear defaults. The next time you press home, you can reselect the one that you want.
Can you use Home Switcher with stock? That is what I used when this same process baffled me in CM7.

Yes, Home Switcher and Home Manager work with stock rooted. Either one easily allows you to change back and forth between home launchers and set the default. I don't believe either lets you change the short/long press action. For that you usually need to go into the settings.
Also if you are running Softkeys or Button Savior you may need to go into those settings and change the default action for short/long press of home to go to where you want for each.

After rooting my VS980 (using the ioroot method), every time I reboot my device I loose the stock launcher. It will boot directly into Nova Launcher with no option for a different home. A quick check with root explorer shows both LGHome files present in /system/app with the proper permissions. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen?
History... before achieving root I copied over both LGHome.apk and LGHome.odex files to my /sd to have for later modding purposes using Solid Explorer. This is the only thing I can think of that would cause the issue. The only way to get the stock launcher back after each boot is to copy over the LGHome files from my /sd back to /system/app and overwrite the ones in place. Then after hitting home on the Nav bar it will ask which launcher to use and I the option to choose "Home" or Nova.
If anyone can shed some light on this for me I would appreciate it. It is getting to be a nuisance copying files over at each boot... Thanks!!
Hi,
Maybe this: first go to settings/Nova Launcher and Clear defaults. When you choose the launcher (Home button) you want, a pop up will appear asking you the default action (I mean Nova or stock launcher), don't choose "always" for Nova...
So at boot (and when pressing the Home button) you'll have the choice for the stock launcher or Nova (but not very convenient each time you press the Home button)...

I have never used Nova as the default launcher on my G2, only tried it out since it was my go-to on the GNex. I always have Nova cleared out and "Home" selected as my default launcher. I've even tried going into Nova's app settings and clearing all data and cache (no defaults were set). On reboot Nova would still load as my only option. I've thought about uninstalling Nova then rebooting to see what would happen... but I'm a little scared that I would have no interface with the UI. I do have a CWM backup though. Thanks for the reply.
Settings, application manager, menu, reset app preferences. You will have to reconfigure all defaults and disabled after.

No dice, already tried that. Thanks though.
Maybe I'm not being clear with explaining the issue. It's not about "how to" set a different default launcher, it's that the stock launcher is GONE on reboot. Like not accessible at all. The only way to get it back is to replace the LGHome apk and odex in /system/app ...per boot. But of course I loose data every time I have to do this.

This is so odd. I've never experienced anything like this in 3 yrs of rooting and modding android.

Damn weird. How though?... I.... don't understand. Some app not being very friendly? Mind blown.

Agreed. This doesn't make any since to me... Depending on how many beers I have during the MNF game tonight I may just chance it and install Nova, reboot and see what happens. I guess I could always unroot and see if that fixes it too...
Thanks guys for the suggestions but something not obvious is working at boot to mess with Home. I'll try hooking it up to adb later and watch the output to see if I can see something weird going on at boot
