Hey
I am using my Motorola defy with Android 2.2.
But now i want to install a smooth and fast custom rom, because my defy is getting slow and particularly boring.
Which rom would you recommend ?
I think you developed Android 2.3 or even 4.0.
I am searching for something which works in all, so i mean ,, no bugs''!
So give me a prposal
Hi! I've been using CM7.2 RC1 since the release and I found no problems with it at all. It's smooth, battery life is great, performance also. I wouldn't recommend you CM9 builds for daily use since they are still buggy. Either CM7.1 or CM7.2 RC1 is good option.
+1 on CM7.2RC1 for best performance/options/less bugs
Also take a look at MIUI roms if you like the style...
I believe MS2Ginger from Walter is best rom till date. It has gingerbread and works for Green lense defy too.
What else you want?
I use CM9 nightly. No problems at all. Search for Epsylon's build ( froyo kernel). Battery life excelent, phone is superfast!

Using CM9 Nightly as well and have only small bugs/issues (e.g. video rec doesn't work yet and I get a bad preview on highest zoom stage with camera).
No Problems with CM7 at all.
Hi,
I've picked up a motorola defy, and am wondering what is the most recent e.g ICS, rom that is stable and everything works?
So far i've rooted the phone and that's about it.
It's a 2.51 UK phone.
I'm familiar with the HTC Desire S roms, but haven't a clue when it comes to the Defy.
I've searched through the dev forum, but can't quite get an indication of what's what.
Sorry for the noob question.
Thanks for any replies.
Did you maybe already found out if it has green (SOC) lens or red (bayer) lens camera module? SOC only works on Froyo kernels, while bayer works on both Froyo and Gingerbread kernels. (Which is not of great importance, cause almost all ROM's are available for both kernels)
Anyways... What do you like? Here are some of my recommendations...
For MIUI v2 - Pikachu MIUI (WIUI comes 2nd, as Pikachu had fewer bugs for me and was overall snappier)
For MIUI v4 - WIUI v4
For CM7(.2) - maniac103's builds or FuZZ's KANG's - almost the same, but details do make them different
For CM9 - Epsylon3 made the latest CM9 builds with the final fixes and touches
For AOKP ICS - There's a Milestone 6 coming up soon, built by Kayant (he's building from source, port's can't compare with that)
For JellyBean - I must say I would recommend ParanoidAndroid, which is based on CMX, but somehow manages to be snappier and much better at RAM management. AOKP JP alpha is snappy, too, when compared to CMX. Although the CMX I'm talking about is the one build by Quarx, but people do say tha Epsylon's builts are better performance-wise.
Thanks.
From the looks of my lens it's bayer.
Are any of those roms a default/minimal ice cream sandwich? That's all i'm after really, as I guess jelly bean will have loads of stuff not working correctly yet.
Actually CM10 is working as good as CM9, maybe better. But I must say, I switched to CM10 since the 2nd nightly, and never went back to CM9, so maybe there was an improvement since that in CM9 nightlys...
But you should try them all and choose which you like

When you say minimal, I'm assuming you mean feature-wise, not GUI-wise, so I guess the best choice for you would be to wait up for AOSP Jelly Bean which Kayant is trying to build from source here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824551
If you don't want Jelly Bean, but ICS, then I think this is the way to go - CM9 Moto Ice Gun - http://www.custom-android.de/portfolio/cm9-motoicegun-edition/ (you can find it in the defy development forum, too). Most of the guys who tested it claim that it's the fastest ICS ROM for the Defy.

i still think , that CM9 is the most stable rom for defy
CM9 is fatser then GB , ICS if definitely better then GB in all terms
so a recent stable rom - CM9 .
but in near future , if TI releases proper SGX drivers for our devices .. then , m sure CM10 will be the most stable rom for defy .
IMHO I would choose CM10
What Kayant is doing isn't pure AOSP. It has some fixes!
I was talking with Quarx recently and he said that CM10 is very similar to pure AOSP..so trust me...go CM10

I've given AOKP ICS milestone 5 a go.
Seems to be lacking polish compared to the HTC ICS roms with sense 3.6 - I guess that's something i'm going to have to get used to. I don't like his boot screen either.
When I say minimal i mean without a bunch of pre-installed stuff like games, twitter etc..
Boot screen can be changed for one you like

All ROMs are minimal then!
They come only with essential apps preinstalled (DSP manager, HWA Settings and FM Radio) + default ROM ones (phone..camera...you know)
This is app set up for CM10

I can't have working tether since CM9 from Quarx or E....
I don't know whether I'm using BL6 kernel (2.3.6) on Defy which cause this problem.
Also, since CM9, I can't play myTV (apps from TVB) live broadcast.
Anyone can help to try it on your CM9/10? Here is the apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quickplay.tvbmytv
Quarx,no doubt, he develops this. Anyways, if it includes some apps you don't want or some to add simply do this with an archiver manager on computer...
Hi all!
What stable ROM do you guys recommend for Defy green lens? I recently installed the most stable CM7 and I like but there are some thing I don't quite like, like the incompatibility with Titanium backup, the vibration issue for notifications, and the battery life didn't improve significantly. So, I am looking for the one but without having to flash 7-8 roms, that where you guys coming in, which rom out there is the best and stable for defy green lens?
And if you could include a download link would be great, because I encountered so many sites with links and versions and rom and kernels, and this and that, that is confusing for a newbie like me.
Thank you!

You could try with cm11, goes very well, but has some bugs with bluetooth, calls and other stuff, you could try the 20-01-14 build, or you can try the latest build of cm10.2 by quarx

Thank you for your answer. I will try that. I have another issue though last night I charged my phone, today it was at 98% well I went online to check my email and the battery went from 98% to 5% like in 7 minutes, and the main reason I flashing my phone was because battery life, I guess the joke was on me! :crying:

Both, lol, my battery is 2+ years old and I should try CM10.
From all the CM10 and 11 what version is the most stable? If I flash it could I go back to stock eventually? (keep in mind that I have a Defy green lens) because if these custom roms don't work quite as smooth I think I'm going to ended up flashing the stock rom.
Diego, Thanx for all the help!
is there a patch for recording 720p videos for cm9 quarx builds defy+ ??? please help!!
Why use cm9 when we have cm10? As far as I remember Quarx added the feature to cm10, but there were reports of lagginess. Search Quarx's cm10 thread in dev section for it.
Edit: 09.24 changelog: added 720p (not default, unstable)

CM10 is by far more stable than CM9, you should try the latest ROM.
Hey folks!
I'm back on stock after CM10 and wanna go CM7.
I was on CM7.1 long back and then was on TweetyPeety's excellent MIUI Pikachu Edition.
Then I was on CM10-2012-11-18 build, but was having problems answering calls which was unacceptable to me, so I tried to flash MIUI back but it was a bit off, so I decided to start from scratch and flashed FroYo 2.2.2 SEA SBF (My default stock FroYo which I love and trust)
But it all slows down after a few months and now am looking for CM7 based ROMS, and wanna know which one's better:
1) [ROM][CM7] WhiteRabbitNextGen Edition 2.1.1 *END OF THE WORLD RABBIT*
and
2) [DEV][ROM] CyanogenMod 7.2.0 (Android 2.3.7)
I am putting CM7.2 because I think it has smart dialing which I remember I sorely missed in CM7.1
But are there any good and latest CM7.2 or higher (but CM7 based only) ROMS?

My advice use mookee by stefan braun its the fastest rom on here and u wont be disapointed

Haven't tried the WhiteRabbit ROM. I gave Quarx's CM10 a chance over several months and decided to find something stable. WajkIUI based on MIUI and CM (stable GB version 3.1.27.) works great for me. Battery lasts up to 2 days even with a couple of 5% drops over that time. Its fast and smooth.
i like most mokee by euro_rules (modified version for defy+)! it's perfect! it looks great and no bugs at all
right now i'm using wiui gb and it's fine too but i think mokee is a bit better.. but miui looks prettier
the last whiterabbit is good and it looks like cm10
Thanks for the replies guys!
As I said, I have flashed CM 7.2 Official stable and am loving it!
The only problem I ever had with CM 7.x ROMS was the crappy ADW Launcher jitters in animations like swipe homescreen and open / close appdrawer.
I do believe its a problem with ADW itself because LauncherPRO works flawlessly giving as smooth animations (if not better) as the stock ROM.
The stock VSels are quite a bit high and I have notched it all down and undervolted to 300/25; 600/33; 1000/53.
Will also run V6 Supercharger and maybe even install latest CM 7 nightly which was recently updated: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458729
Have also installed Swype which I just can't live without!
Now, As I see from the replies, there seem to be different variations for mokee OS for DEFY? which one should I try on my MB525 Red lense?
a) mookee by stefan braun
b) mokee by euro_rules (modified version for defy+)
BTW have to mention here something which I had to search and could not find readily:
The baseband for Indian users to select in CM7.x in built baseband switcher is: South East Asia 3.4.3-331

i've found euro_rules version a bit better i think you'll have to try yourself..
the only thing i don't like is that you can't access cpu settings in boot menu.. you have to use app like rom toolbox! everything else is perefct!
Im using Cm7.2 absolutely stable..
Now i wish to update to a new version !!
cm9 is stopped and cant find download link
cm10.1 is on progress....
or any AOSP Stable ICS/ JB ?
Basically i need a stable one for max daily usage with max battery ... i use internet and games rarely
and whats this thread contains.. many ROM names and which one are for DEFY !!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824551
CM9 is the best option for you. Go to uncledan's android mirror to get CM9
I'm using CM10 27/05 but it does have few bugs.
All the roms on that thread are for the Defy and Defy+.

Quarx' CM10 18/03 was pretty stable, no bugs at all for me. 27/05 is considerably faster though. I'd say CM10 is a safe bet as it's quite mature by now. Be aware that some of these builds are marked as experimental (the ones with the red colour)
I am using Quarx' CM10 17/2 with Blechdose 22/3 Jellyx kernel... It's very smooth and stable
thanks you all...(i mean it)
decided to try cm9 ...
downloaded the last one from http://defy-cm.net/defy-cm9-nightly/ (its Quarx)
flashed the OS , its gr8 for now. will update soon .
Going to install basebandswitcher 4.
and also battery calibration tool after a full recharge !!
inbetween one dbt ..im using a DEFY mb525 .(prev os was cm7.2). So my kernel will be a FROYO One . R8?
Should i install GB kernel for better performance ...?
cm9 of Quarx Vs cm9.1 of epsylon
like i said i installed Quarx cm9
now found a cm9.1 by epsylon http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353003

Yes, there's not much of a difference. You don't need to install any kernel.
But in this thread it shows i need to flash kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618904
r8 now my phone shows kernel as 2.6.32.9-gb ....
got kernel-gb-234-451-134-signed.zip from http://defy.wdscript.fr/kernel/
Before that my Questions are
should i update the KERNEL .. its some threads its shown Kernal Update is necessary ...
