I would recommend not to use gingerbreak, as I had loads of problems, I don't know wether it was a one off, but I experienced the following....
When opening camera I would just get a black screen, and the device would just freeze up. I would hav to reboot the device
My lock security option became disabled!! Couldn't set a lock pattern, pin etc...
And.... Pc companion wouldnt recognise my device!
Has anybody else had problems!??
try this if it helps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047484
I managed to do a restore via seus, just wanted to warn others
I've just been trying to connect to my PC via USB for either ADB or Fastboot and neither are working.. It was fine when I rooted with fastboot and flashed bin4ry's method.. then I was trying something so I reflashed a stock ROM then rooted with gingerbreak.. now the PC doesn't recognise it at all..
[EDIT - Forgot to mention - the reason I was trying to connect my phone was because since I gingerbroke my phone the battery consumption has been shocking too.. so I wanted to start from scratch! and go back to Bin4ry's rooted ROM. ]
What version of gingerbreak did you guy's use?
Would it matter what version to use?
I have rooted with gingerbreak some time ago and do have none of the problems above.
I did it with version 1.1 of gingerbreak
Root with the gingerbreak method is the best option right now, that way you will still have warranty for your device.

i used 1.2 version.
i dont no wether to try gingerbreak again, just to comfirm these problem or wether i accidentally uninstalled something with titanium!??
you don't lose your warranty by unlocking the BL.. you only lose your warranty by bricking your phone with a dodgy custom kernal.
Nope, I did not have any of the problems you are having. Mine works flawlessly!
Rooted with Gingerbreak 1.2, and I have no problems as desribed by Gibbo or iceman.
I can see my device in adb as well as do shell command on it. I haven't tried stock camera app again since I know it drains battery really bad; But I don't have problem whatsoever taking pictures with Vignette.
Rooted with 1.1 and no problems at all
Just know what you delete and what you allow

Hi guys ,
I have rooted my xperia arc with gingerbreak 1.2 it's running good but for example quickboot run perfectly but titanium backup dont recognizes the root right :/ I dont understand that .
Have you installed busybox ?
Rooted with 1.2, no issues at all .
Sent from my MT15i using XDA App
yeah ! Sorry but ultimately i have solved my problem ! I'm a little stupid at times , i have forgot to install busy box ...
Now my xperia arc is perfectly rooted thank's all .
ive had the black screen issues but everytime its been due to low memory. But I had this before rooting. By using gingerbreak I can now use autostarts and I have far less issues
Hello everybody. It looks like someone gave me an almost dead phone; x8 without a launcher.
I don't know how he managed to delete it but when i power on the phone, it only shows the notification bar with signal and battery. everything else is just "gone".
So, how can I make it work again ? the phone is unrooted and the menu is inaccessible to me ...
Thanks in advance.
Alex

You can just repair it with PCcompanion or flash stock ROM with flashtool.

Have you tried to make a flashable zip with a launcher like launcher pro?
maybe there is no launcher app, if you install one via ADB Shell or Flashable ZIP you can maybe solve this
Phone is NOT rooted.... ur screwd. Rescue it by SEUS, but you will lose your apps and settings.

install or move to /sistem/app and make the permisions
you can use X10FlashTool to install any launcher (not move it to system/app)
install any launcher and then install root explorer, use root explorer, copy the file to system/app, fix the permission like this:

Don't want to root? Download Update Service from SE and install it. After that, open it and do the steps. Dont forget to backup your data!
Say thanks button if i helped you
I've had this problem one. Just follow the PC Companon instructions and you'll be fine, trust me!
Sign in your Google account.Enter market.Install any launcher.Wait for phone to receive and install.Press HOME on phone.Choose launcher.
how do you wan to add google account if you can't launch anything ?
I meant enter market through PC.
Does this phone have a custom recovery and ROM? If so just flash the recovery in fastboot from a PC and then use recovery to flash a rom.
Boot phone in to fastboot, plug it in to the computer, open command prompt(assuming you have SDK set-up) and navigate to the recovery.img path and type
fastboot flash recovery (name of recovery.img)
Then use the recovery to flash your ROM.
I did the same thing to my last phone. Factory data reset with no launcher in system. Find it hard to believe its not rooted.

Just download a Launcher .apk, and install it with "adb install 'Launchername'.apk

you have to charge battery. so first, try to charge it with a wall plug, not USB. Then, if you cannot, try charging your battery somewhere, a friend or a GSM service. Then with phone switched off, follow the instruction and flash ROM again by SEUS.
And then, use x8toolbox from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117100
but please read first page carefully and follow instructions. So that it does not happen again.
Battery is fully charged now, What should I do next?
I cant flash rom by SEUS because when I connect device to pc cant recognized..
Use flashtool

Besides Sony Ericsson PC Companion, you have installed in computer Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) right?
if not, go to official page and download / install it .
and follow the steps. from what you are saying, I see that either you do not have SEUS or you do not have the corect drivers installed .
You can search on this forum as well, you may find numerous links.

I installed CWM through the Xperia CWM Auto-installer.
Since their aren't very many roms and I have insurance on my phone and I don't want to void the insurance someone help me figure out how to remove CWM. BTW it instals CWM 5.0.2.7
I tried the CWM-Safe-remover.zip but it doesn't remove one bit of it at all.
You cant you have root files in /xbin which I think brick your device if removed first step unroot l, then flash via Flashtool a Standard .Ftf.
Well debranding voids Carrier warranty :/ so... You could try pc companions and select data reset and reset the while nand etc.

Dude I can't understand your grammar. But thanks for the post.
So what you're saying is that I can use the tool provided by Sony to flash the next OTA or current firmware and I'll get the stock recovery?
Use Flashtool to flash it back to stock 2.3.3. Make sure you use the .ftf package that wipes everything, and it should get rid of the custom recovery.
Can you give me a link to the .ftf that will wipe everything please.
Search for xperia play super compilation you'll find the link.
Basically upating via pc companion doesn't wipe memory apps installed root but superuser will be gone but root is there.
CWM has to be removed by flashtool.
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
The links are all dead, and I have an R800x since that will make a huge difference in firmware selection. So how about I wait till the next OTA, will it remove when I try to install it?

Dude we're talking about CWM here not root. There is a difference, although the subject of rooting is involved. I get annoyed when people don't actually read the original topic.
