Hello,
I have Motorola Defy, with CM7. I have tried many Android versions, but my camera wont focus. I have tried to clean any caches, but i think that my camera module is broken, can it be? Sorry for bad english!
I have the same problem..
it seems that is on macro focus and sometimes I have to restart the camera app, or the phone or something else to make it work...
very annoying, is it a software or a hardware issue?
Clear data in manage application. It will work.

nop, tried it, it doesn't work :/
any other ideas?
the problem is still here...I tried cm7 official, cm7, cm9, cm10 and it is the same...so it isn't a software problem...
has anyone had this problem and resolved it?
maybe it is a simple repair like the one for the proximity sensor where you have to slightly unscrew one screw
c'mon guys, any feedback?

Did you flash the new radio? Also, are you turning the Focus mode to Infinity or on Auto? And, download Barcode Scanner and try to scan something, to assure that your hardware is not faulty, this APP autofocus's pretty efficiently. And then you will know if you have a software bug or a hardware fault. If it's software, backup your files, and try to reflash firmware
The camera on my evo used to work fine. Within the last week or two I've had a problem with it not opening. It just shows a picture of the camera and then shows a black screen.
I've read that it could be caused by apps that use the camera but I have none. I did a reset on my phone and that did nothing either. How can I fix this!?

by picture of the camera then black screen, what do you mean?
the camera works for a moment, or that just the camera button shows up then nothing?
If a hard reset doesnt work, that means its hardware related, not software. Take it to sprint and have then look at if and give you a replacement.
hope this helps.
intially i had that problem too took it into sprint and found out it was advanced task killer that was interferring with my camera. after that had been taken off a couple months down the road my video camera stopped working, but my camera was fine. trial and error it turns out the new google maps is what's messing with it. always check what apps you've recently updated and uninstall those updates, just back track till the camera works again

Try clearing the camera data by going to settings, applications, manage applications, and click on the camera app and then clear data.
Also are you rooted and what ROM are you using? Maybe you can just reflash the ROM.
I was rooted with stock sense but I unrooted after the hard reset didnt work.
Also, I bought my evo through bestbuy, can I still go to a Sprint store and get a replacement? I don't have phone insurance either.

It could be the Kernel you are using, if you have a newer hardware version with a new camera/driver then flash a Kernel that supports the new hardware/driver.
I hope this helps My friend had this same problem and he fixed it buy flashing a new Kernel. Good luck.
Edit: Never mind I just reread your last post and seen you unrooted and still have the problem. So yeah your best bet would be to call Sprint.
Hey guys.
I've been using CM7 for about a month now, currently in the 010911 Nightly.
Everthing was fine until this past week, when the camera of my phone started to have strange freezes and lags. Then, one time, it FCed and when I turned it back on, the display was inverted, and colors were all strange and washed off.
I've rebooted, cleaned the data, etc, etc, and nothing fix the issue. Keep in mind that there's nothing with the tilt sensor. It's something software related.
I remember seeing a fix for a similar problem a while back, but I searched this hole forum and couldn't find anything, so, I beg for your help.
Thanks a lot!
Sorry for the bump, guys. But I really need some light with this problems.
Try clearing Camera app data or switch to another nightly.

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, I already tried both things you suggested, with no luck.
Not sure if it has anything to do with it, but is the boot mode set to 2nd init by default ?!
You can also try using other camera apps like Vignette.

dude, we are on the same boat. Tell me when u find a solution.
A temporary fix which i m not sure till when its gonna last but is working for the moment.
open camera, leave it opened and pull the battery. put the battery again after 2 mins and see if it helps you. Its working for me at the moment but dont know the logic behind the process.
I already got my camera hardware replaced but this problem happened again just after rooting the phone.
I have the same problem and I'm almost sure it is a hardware failure. Maybe after a shock or drop. I'll open my unit this week and see what's wrong. Did some of you manage to fix it?
I've even tried flashing full stock sbf without success, so I'd blame the camera module.
I just got my Droid Turbo 2 delivered today from Moto Maker and I have to say it's almost perfect.
Unfortunately, I am getting a error message when I try to access the camera. The message just says that there was an error and the camera must restart. Has anybody else seen this?

Yeah, I hope it's not a big thing because I'm liking the phone way more than I thought I would. You can't beat having a battery you don't have to worry about for most of the day.
I was able to get the camera working by force closing the camera app, clearing both the cache and data and then rebooting. I still don't know what the cause was, but hopefully it won't reoccur.

Ive noticed I cant use the camera if battery saver is on
Are you using Nova? I installed Nova immediately and had the same issue because the shortcut it defaulted to was not the Moto camera app. Replaced the home screen one with the app drawer one and it worked fine.
I'm using Nova, but that wasn't my issue. It was occurring no matter how I accessed the camera. The issue is resolved though, so its all good.

Glad to hear it. Hopefully it doesn't come back
The day I purchased my phone after a couple of uses with the front facing camera it just stopped working. When I would try to switch to it I would get an error message. After a restart the button to switch to it had disappeared. I also thought it was maybe because of Nova launchers camera shortcut not defaulting to the correct app. However I tried everything I could think of. Clear cache force stop disable re-enable restart factory reset. Nothing worked. Had to take it back. Haven't had any problems with the replacement. The first one did however have a quite noticeable shaking sound which I thought was some sort of sensor but after getting my new one I believe the front facing camera may have had a loose connection to the motherboard and then became disconnected.

Did you clear the cache in the recovery menu, I had that problem with the Droid Bionic years ago. That fixes majority of camera issue.

I did try that but still had no luck and even booted into safe mode to make sure it wasn't a third party app causing the issue and the camera still didn't work So i figured it was a hardware issue.
Factory Reset?

Did you get a replacement by mail? If so was it new or just a refurbished phone. I only asked since mine started acting up the night of the 14 days return policy when the store was closes and was advised that it would be replaced by mail.

Make sure you have the screen set to standard resolution. Its a known issue.
Hey XDA's folks!
I have a non rooted ATT H910. The stock camera app can't turn the flash on when i take photo with the narrow lens. I tried the manual mode but it still doesn't work. The flash works fine while on video though, the flashlight also has no problem.
Tried any other camera apps and it works, only the stock apps that wont turn the flash on while im taking picture. This bother me when i use instagram and whatsapp because i cant use the flash too.
Already tried restart, clear data and cache of the stock camera, factory reset and still no solution. Could you help me?
Ok this sucks
I've had this before on my rooted H990. I wish I could remember what I did to fix it, but there was something. I can tell you with confidence, that it isn't a hardware problem. I'll think about it today and get back to you if / when I remember. It wasn't complicated...
