We shall know july 15th... that day they will either start charging, or shut down completely according to multiple sources... hopefully not... also do not that facebook now shares ALL YOUR DATA with the FBI, CIA, AND michael moore... I don't have a clue why they would share your data with him, but they are...

My thoughts exactly.... I don't use facebook (or any other social networking site) but thought id share this story since I came across after hearing something about it on my local news....
I can't believe I'm even dignifying this with a response;
http://www.snopes.com/computer/facebook/fbcharge.asp
Like I said... I don't use facebook so I was unaware that they seem to do this every year...
Fb makes billions every year because with social networking, the product is YOU. They have no need to charge anyone but app designers, businesses and advertisers. The idea that they would start the general public being charged for using their site is and always will be beyond ridiculous.
Obviously a hoax, but oh how I would love if they actually did charge so people would dump it for Google+ which is much better but is practically a ghost town compared to FB.
Wait.. charging you to sell your info?

Then maybe people would realize how stupid it is to share every waking moment of their lives with "friends" who they haven't seen or spoken to in years.

I can't recall any membership fee that managed to discourage idiots as effectively as it discourages those with better financial priorities (or less money for frivolous pursuits).
A membership fee would first make Facebook a haven for the over-privileged, which will cause the remaining intelligent users to bail even if they can afford the cost. Eventually, Facebook would be the rich morons' playground

The hackers just won't give poor Sony a break, will they? Following the infamous PSN breach last month and an attack on the company's Greek online music service earlier this week, Sony Ericsson has now seen another intrusion that extracted personal data of more than 2,000 Canadian Eshop customers. Fortunately, the company claims that passwords taken were encrypted and no credit card details were lost, but this is still worrisome nevertheless. Right now, the Eshop service has been taken off line -- for the sake of Sir Howard and his Japanese chums, let's just hope that this will be the last Sony breach we hear about.

Not everyone lives online, alot of normal people just drop the odd tweet or message.
Should they be punished?
I spend alot of time online cuz i live miles away from cities and there's very few people here to talk to.
Why should people feel threatened online.
Maybe Santa "Satan" is making a list and checking it twice?
I suppose there is a little bit of an upside to this. This all started with Sony suing GeoHot. Hopefully they'll learn their lesson and stop ****ing with developers and maybe they'll start being more open with devices (PS3). There's the chance this could spill over to SE and we might finally see more unlocked bootloaders etc.

Emails are easy to block and ignore... the primary reason physical letters are effective in large enough numbers, is because the post office is obligated to deliver every single letter - and thousands of physical envelopes stuffed with letters will take up a -lot- of space in the office... emails, not so much...

haha, I know this is a serious deal and all... but There is NO way in HELL that SOPA or PIPA will be approved without CHANGES.
I'm not against SOPA nor PIPA, just how they generalize EVERYTHING.
The Generalization means that big companies, for example, Sony , if they wanted could pretty much shut down YouTube because someone had one of their copyrighted music on there.
Do you realize how bad that sounds? If this does get passed, well... all hell will break loose.
Internet is the ultimate boss in the 21st century, people need to get out of their 1940's and look on their computer and look at stats. 2,095,006,005 people use the internet worldwide DAILY, 272,066,000 Just in North America.

Thats just screwed up, I understand all the piracy and what not, but what does Generic Drugs have to do with this anti piracy!??!?!?
Right! Here is a snippet from the Wikipedia article on SOPA about it...
Protection against counterfeit drugs
Pfizer spokesman John Clark testified that patients could not always detect cleverly forged websites selling drugs that were either mis-branded or simply counterfeit.[18]
RxRights, a consumer advocacy group, issued a statement saying that Clark failed "to acknowledge that there are Canadian and other international pharmacies that do disclose where they are located, require a valid doctor's prescription and sell safe, brand-name medications produced by the same leading manufacturers as prescription medications sold in the U.S."[19] They had earlier said that SOPA "fails to distinguish between counterfeit and genuine pharmacies" and would prevent American patients from ordering their medications from Canadian pharmacies online.[20]

My older brother actually gets his prescription from Canada, because not only is it CHEAPER and i'm not talking like 5 dollars cheap, its beating the price from here by atleast $50, but it also makes the original product that is imported to US and sold for a higher price. I don't know the EXACT name of the product, but its like a eye drop, his eyes get dry easily with contacts.
So if SOPA passes (lololol) then yep, my brothers broke haha

This. Plus the fact it won't do anything against piracy and will serve as a platform for our government to censor anything they don't want released. 194.71.107.15 will work just as well after SOPA as http://thepiratebay.org/ works today. I understand that we need to protect the intellectual property of who it belongs to, but certainly at the expense of the free speech of the citizens, the safety and security of the DNS system, and fair use. If you post a video with Michael Jackson in the background you can get 5 years in prison. That's a year more than the doctor responsible for his death.
"So, that are you in for?"
"Oh, I killed and dismembered a homeless guy, what about you?
"I uploaded a video of my friend dancing to Tik Tok at a party."
This legislation needs to be stopped. Gizmodo has a nice chart of who received money from the entertainment industry, guess who, the SOPA/PIPA supporters. /rant
Besides this is not needed since Homeland Security apparently already HAS the power to block sites from appearing in the U.S. A lot of sites that I used to watcc the NFL on last year now appear with a big SHUTDOWN by HOMELAND SECURITY banner when I clicked them.
