Follow along with this step by step - "Pictorial" "How to Use the apxFlash Tool"
how far do you get and what doesnt 'work'?

Did you install the right drivers?

apx flash utility
I got as far as are you ready to flash I press yes when downloading starts the driver disappears. I tried the manual method and auto mathod. I used the guide an followed it

a500 flash utility
yes it is the right driver. download it from the acer a500 support site

You should see a cmd prompt come up and load a few lines up then flash off the screen. At that point your tab should vibrate and say sumthin like "Entering Acer Download mode" with the acer logo in the middle.
I don't remember if mine disappeared or not, I know I kept an eye out for it the first time I flashed the BL. I read this after I flashed to v4, I would have checked had I read it earlier...sorry

As long as the little usb icon appears at the bottom of the screen it should be OK. Make sure you don't have any other usb devices attached... Right click on the usb icon and it should say apx device...
I always use manual method to update bootloader and recovery as I can't seem to get blackthund3r's tool to work....
You do need to be in APX mode though... Supposed to be tricky manually but I just stick a LED leg into the reset hole, press power 3 secs then a sec later release the reset button. Works every time...

apx flash utility
I see entering dowload mode bootlander- flashing boot loader-flashing kernel-flashing recovery-exiting bootloader
package-V3 bootloader
rom- ICS AV041 a500_1.031.00_ww_Gen1

Lol, m8 U ain't making this easy for me r u??.
Put it this way then,
Do u have a problem, cos I'm not hearing one . Does the tool fail to flash woteva it is u r trying to flash, does it get stuck and go no further, does yr tab not boot or something ...is the guide wrong,...I dunno???
So there aren't a lot of steps left to go - download mode u got OK, flashing u got OK, assume got "Done" window
So, either u still on v3 and u wanted v4 OR..............

The tool does not flash anything, another thing I notice in the guide the power light stays on, by the way I noticed at bottom of the tool it says apx decvice is connected.

OK now we're cooking...... everything you've said you've done and seen is all OK ant there should be no reason why the flash hasn't worked....
U posted this earlier "package-V3 bootloader rom- ICS AV041 a500_1.031.00_ww_Gen1"
Is this what u wish to flash to?
You've chosen not to flash custom recovery, is that correct..?
There is an updated version But its not mandatory you have it. you will be alright on v3
-A500-V4-CWM1.7.a500apx or
-A500-V4-CWM1.7.2.a500apx with latest CWM-1.7.2
Download Acer recovery installer if u dont already have it.
open it up and tell me what BL & Recovery version it says u have
Silly question maybe, but are rooted??

apx flash utility
Yes I have not chosen to flash custom recovery
Yes I am rooted
Acer Recovery Installer:
BL-0.03.12-ICS
Recovery Version-CWM rev1.7 by thor2002ro(for ICS Bootlloader)
The problem here is when a boot into recevery. I get (recovery verified failed ) after I updated to new ICS OTA that when the error started.
Used the Acer Recovery Installer and Power Bottom-Vol-Down same results.

M8, that took along time to get to the real problem and is what u should have posted right from the beginning!!!!!
The OTA has wiped yr cwm recovery and root - Yes that's just what they do
You've re-rooted - OK fine
Problem - recovery verified failed after OTA update
U have tried to fix using apxFlash - but chose not to flash a custom recovery (CWM)
Your recovery is borked so u have to put a new one on there, the best way to
go about doing this is to:
Download the V3 AND CWM Recovery package and apxFlash that.....Done!!
your need to flash the WHOLE PACKAGE b/c ARI reports yr BL as plain old stock
You cannot replace the failed recovery with CWM with the plain old stock BL!!
You have to flash the patched BL as well, so again
You must flash the whole pckg just like in the guide OK
if later u want the stock recovery back u can use ARI to do that but after the apxflash!!!

apx flash
Thanks for all your help but I can't seen to find the { V3 bootloader AND CWM Recovery package } that you mention. Can you lead me the right place for the files.
Thanks

Can I jump in here please as its sort of my problem as well.
Every thing goes fine ish.
When the tool tries to boot the tab into bootloader it fails.
Nothing on the tab screen. USB icon or computer disappears.
I just want to install a ics unlocked (is that the same as pateched) boot loader so I can install civs extreme???
Thanks

Why don't you guys read this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688795
And install your Google USB drivers and verify they work with your tab in APX mode.
Later in the thread I posted an older app which installs Ver4 unlocked and CWM. Read the notes on my post's and give it a shot.
It's the app I always use.
MD

Okay. Rooted the A500 this afternoon... got ready to flash the first step from blackthund3r's APX Flash Utility... I have the drivers, up to date, and clicked "No" to go back and get them (accidentally) and now it is sitting still saying "Acer Iconia APX Mode" in the upper left screen in white text with a nice green ACER logo in the middle, but it isn't doing anything and the APX tool says "Waiting for 4 seconds for the tablet to enter the bootloader", but the tablet is not entering such a bootloader... What now?

Bricked I/O tab 10.1?

[SOLVED] Okay so I got my i/o tab back up and working. See this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14586131&postcount=2.
1. I downloaded those 2 things.
2. I booted into odin mode by powering off the device and holding the power and the left volume (volume down) until it brings me to a usb and a triangle sign with an android figure.
3. Press Right volume (volume up) to select the right icon on the screen.
4. Plugin the tab to your computer and load the odin3 v1.85 application.
5. Press PDA and find the PDA_SIGNED_P7105.tar.md5 file
6. Click start and let it reboot and it should be fixed! (well that's what fixed it for me)
So I tried installing the starburst rom on my i/o tab that I won (from phandroid!), anyways I was on an unlocked 3.1 rom that was rooted. So I installed rom manager from the market to get cwm on it. After that I backed up my current rom, and then I flashed the starburst rom.
After the rom finished flashing it rebooted and is now stuck in a bootloop of continually showing the samsung galaxy tab 10.1 splash screen.
I can't get back into cwm at all. I've tried getting it back with odin and with nvflash. Also fastboot isn't working for me (says waiting for devices both on my windows and linux machine). I've tried flashing both stock recovery and cwm via odin and via nvflash but nothing is working.
I'm not really sure where to go from here. I've spent the last 5 hours or so on xda and google. Any help would be appreciated.
The first attached files shows what happens when I select the USB image, the second shows what I get when I hold down the power and down volume, and the third is me flashing cwm through odin, but after flashing it, I still can't get into cwm.
I'm not an expert, but you may want to check the file you are trying to flash as it may be corrupt. Maybe try redownloading and flashing with odin. If that does not work you may need to reflash your firmware, I think there is instructions in the dev form on where to download. Also check if the IO edition is different model from the retail WIFI version.
Hopefully this is helpful,if not I'm sure someone else will chime in.
I checked the md5 of it and it matched. How would I reflash with odin? All I can see that I can flash with odin is the recovery. I don't know how to flash anything on my tab in it's current state. I can't get cwm back, and all I get is fastboot usb mode and odin. Fastboot isn't working and odin says it flashes the cwm recovery correctly and everything, but then it's not there.
Thanks for your input, any input is greatly appreciated. Was hoping to get my tab updated to a touchwiz rom, now I can't even use it.
I had same problem happen with mine out of the blue and it's stock I/O.
Maybe the thing i'm flashing in odin isn't for the I/O tab?

Did you fix it? I had this happen once before but I forget how I was able to get fastboot to work to issue a fastboot -w command.
Okay, so I think I made some progress. I was able to get fastboot working on a fresh computer that never had adb, fastboot, or the android sdk installed. I only have fastboot working on it and not adb. :\
So I tried fastboot flash system stockrom.zip but when rebooting it just shows the
splash screen. (I waited like 10mins). I now do have fastboot working so now what should I do?

which stock rom are you using? are you using the OTA 3.1 that is in the dev thread?
try that and lemme know what happens
also, if you can get into fastboot, you can fastboot recovery, ie get back into CWM and load a backup

I think maybe my partition table is effed up? I'm not sure.
I tried fastboot and flashing the backup that I had on my computer (fastboot flash system system.img ; fastboot flash data data.img ; etc), but it just hangs at the samsung galaxy tab splash logo.
I'm using the ota that comes in the files for dummies in the dev forum.

Simply doing fastboot -w has never worked for me. It would just bootloop. Only way i've been able to restore it is through the steps I listed in this thread.

hi all
i'm beginner in android, i hardly downloaded rom for my iconia, however.
during installing a program on my Acer iconia tab A500 suddenly stopped working, and i couldnot boot it with (black screen written on it acer + with message on the upper left corner of the screen says : secure boot: image lnx checksum fail!)
i read a little about that
1- i tried power+volume down but not working.
2- tried reset but not working.
3- tried adb but not working, its not in debug mod.
4- tried euu but not working ido not have my UID.( is it written on the ouside package.
5- tried to have my uid through usbdeview but there is no memory for previous thethering
6- tried wipe it to factory without recovery but not working
istill have the same fail message
note:
i had done a full backup previously to this problem with clockworkmod contains boot recovery and...
however
could you please help.!!
thanks in advances
Can you boot into recovery by holding down the volume down button and depressing the power on button?? If you can, once in clockworkmod recovery you need to select the "fix a500 boot/recovery checksums" under the advanced menu. It should have done this first time you booted into recovery to install a rom or when you rooted and installed cwm. Good luck, and once you get it fixed install the latest cwm recovery that is located on tegraowners.com.
Make sure you try volume up and down to get into recovery since it isn't very intuitive on which button is up and which is down.
Sounds like you have CWM loaded which has a tool to fix checksums. You boot to recovery mode using power * volume+ and then in the Advance menus is a item to fix your problem.
TD
I had the same issue a while back. If you do not have CWM installed, you should revert back to a 3.0.1 original ROM. I am not sure if 3.0.1 is required, but the original ROM from acer has a Windows Flash utility, so the tab is flashed using a PC, not the recovery mode from the tab itself.
It was a while back (before this summer), but i can't exactly remember if my tab already had CWM or ROOT.
I know there is/was a thread about reverting to 3.0.1 somewhere on XDA, but i can't seem to find it anymore.
Boot to recovery. Hold vol- and pwr until text appears at the upper left corner of the display.
Can you do that? And get the menu?
Say exactly what you did, with filename. All procedures you did.
We are missing information.

Your recovery is borked!!! Just install again...
you still have a working system to boot into??
Install acer recovery installer from either the market or
the apk from the thread in Themes/Apps and install yr recovery of choice....
acer recovery installer will also tell you what BL you are on...
If you cannot boot at all...
Just manually enter apx mode and run either nvFlash or EUU back to stock 3.2

[Q] Download mode stuck

Hi guys,
Long-time phone rooter/XDA reader, first time posting.
It seems I have finally come across a problem I can't fix by insane amounts of googling and trial&error.
I am currently on some Kitkat custom ROM variant with CWM 6.0.4.4
I'm looking to get back to stock, but my download mode refuses to open. Its stuck at the blue dots screen. (attached picture for clarity)
I've let it sit there overnight, with no change.
I've attempted to use the LGMobile Tool (even this method), but when it reboots my phone, the phone sits on the "LG" screen, and the LG tool eventually errors out ("communication error").
Recently, I managed to back myself into a corner after (incredibly idiotically) accepting an OWA, when my recovery was corrupt, and my download mode would not even open then - and i had to use some bizarre method of commands in Linux to be able to get TWRP on, then flashed CWM and them my ROM.
So what can I do now? I'm assuming my download mode is corrupt - is there a way to flash a good download mode onto the phone?
Any thoughts/input greatly appreciated.
edit:
Ok looks like I have understimated myself.
I used THIS tool to extract my KDZ, to get the LAF file (then renamed it to laf.img)
I then used the instructions from HERE to flash to the correct place.
It did not reboot into download like the thread said it would, but I did a manual download mode entry (while off, hold Volume Up + insert USB) and viola!
I am now currently using the LGMobile tool to go back to stock

Hey thanks for the post. My download mode will not go past the 5 blue dots screen. I am trying to return to stock but I get the same download mode error. I am rooted and have TWRP installed. This download mode error has happened before. I fixed it by flashing CM and then going into download mode and it worked! But my TWRP is getting an error when installing any rom. It fails and installation and says error executing updater binary. I just need to fix download mode or TWRP. Any help would be great.
Did you already have recovery installed when you were stuck at the 5 dots download mode screen?

Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F 5.0 stuck during root

This is not the first time i root an android device but it is the first time im doing it on an S5, nonetheless I am pretty much stuck right now.

and then it shuts down.

Can anyone help ?
EDIT: ok, so I did manage to get it running again by flashing openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-gt-klte. This got me past the "Recovery is not seandroid...", but all in all I still didn't manage to get root access...

then when i boot i get a black screen with all application error....the only way to get it back working was to wipe factory reset in original recovery.

I can't seem to get the coustom recovery installed, and after some digging i found this :
manubhargav said:
Actually the problem was that custom recovery(twrp here) was not installed at all, that above mentioned error occurs when you try to install SuperSU.zip from stock recovery<3e>.
This happens because when you flash custom recovery from Odin and allow it to reboot on its own, Samsung's recovery checking script checks if a custom recovery is present and overrides.
To bypass that check you need to take your battery out as soon as the recovery is flashed by Odin ( and before the phone reboots).
As soon as the Odin says PASS you should be ready to take out the battery which will stop it from rebooting,
put back the battery and enter recovery mode directly by pressing and holding Volume Up, Home and Power keys at the same time.
Release all three buttons when Samsung Galaxy S5 screen flickers and the main screen of Recovery mode appears.
This will avoid script checking and will let you to custom recovery directly, there you can install SuperSU or any other zip.

Maybe your phone is not recognized in Download Mode as corresponding drivers may not be properly installed. So Computer is not able to recognize the phone when in Downlaod mode. Install SM Bus Controllers drivers from Intel from Official driver source.
After setting-up you'll be able to flash TWRP and boot into recovery mode.

This happened to me also. I am running XXU1BOJ1 . I flashed twrp-2.8.7.0-klte.img and even though it solved getting stuck at recovery, my phone still boots into the standard recovery instead of TWRP when pressing VOLUP+Home+Power. Anyone got ideas?

Actually the problem of custom recovery (TWRPhere) not installed at all, stock recovery<3e> persists after reboot because when you flash custom recovery from Odin and allow it to reboot on its own, Samsung's recovery checking script checks if a custom recovery is present and overrides.

Ah, So the problem you're facing is NOT getting into recovery mode
There are 2 ways to solve the problem, (1st -> flashing recovery.tar again, 2nd-> flashing stock firmware)
First method:
Enter "Download Mode" by holding down "Volume Down"+ "Home" + "Power" button.
Flash recovery.img again and check if it boots into recovery this time.
Sometimes this may not work and you may need to try flashing firmware
Second method:
Download Firmware from here
Open odin in your PC
Enter "Download mode"
Connect the device to PC using USB
Flash the PDA, BL, AP, CSC etc.
Alternatively, You can flash the firmware using SmartSwitch

Oh but it is! That's exactly my problem. Look, here are the 3 outcomes I get regarding the whole recovery menu thing:
Go into the default recovery menu - cant install SuperSU but at least it works.
Install twrp and remove the battery after it finishes transfering and wants to restart, at which point when I go into recovery I get the above error (Could not do normal boot. ODIN MODE.)
Install twrp and let it restart by itself and after it is done, go into recovery only to find it is back to the default one.

Which Kernel version are you in? Which TWRP version did you try? Install other custom recoveries? On locked bootloader?
Ok, I tried CWM and nothing changed, i get the default recovery menu...
Doing the shut down before it restarts gets me "recovery is not seandorid enforcing"

Turn OFF Auto-Reboot option in ODIN and flash the recovery.tar and remove battery and directly boot into recovery mode.
Go into a working custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) and flash SuperSU.zip from the recovery and reboot with ("Fix permissions" if there is such an option, otherwise simply reboot).

Tried that already, and as I said, I can't get a custom recovery working, it either resets to the default one or I get the "recovery is not seandorid enforcing" error.

1)
Ah use latest twrp 2.8.70
Ah use latest supersu beta 2.52
Quick download cm12.1 nightly and flash it.
Boot Rom and go into settings/aboutphone/ click build number rapidly.
Developer settings should appear, then go into developers options/ click on "root access" and enable it.
---- now test if its working . however....
2)
If its not working, take yourself back into twrp and flash that supersu beta.
----now test again. However ....
3)
If it doesn't work again .
go back to stock 5.0 rom>>> put twrp on >>> and flash DAT supersu .
now test ya rom again. However.........
4)
If it dont work again ..
go back to stock 4.4 rom>>> put twrp on>>> and flash a random supersu.
now test ya rom again. However.....
5)
if that doesn't work again,
Go back to stock rom through (odin) and restart the process from the top .
btw the "recovery is not seandorid enforcing" is normal . not an error.

First of all holy **** what an answer... let's SLOW DOWN a bit first, shall we ?
Secondly you lost me from step 1, I don't want CyanogenMod, I want the default Samsung 5.0 with TouchWiz (contrary to popular belief I actually like it).
Also I would really like to know (from someone that actually knows why this happens) why is it reverting to default recovery and how can I stop it from doing so ? manubhargav had an interesting idea, but sadly it doesn't work for everyone (as someone else mentioned on that other post)
So I'm guessing no one knows the answer to my problem considering almost a moth has passed...
I know that in kitkat the answer was to turn off / disable 'Reactivation Lock' (located under settings>>security and unchecking the box)........
I had heard that Samsung had removed that option in lollipop, but it might be worth checking......it has/had to be disabled BEFORE attempting to flash anything......
