[Q] Can not flash CM7 or CM9 - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have run into problems with my Defy+. I wanted to upgrade from CM 7.2 RC1 to RC2. But after the flash, I got the message in the picture below and the phone won't boot.

I have to flash the phone using RSD Lite. But now whenever I try to flash a CM ROM (I tried CM 7.2 RC1, CM 7.2 RC2 and the latest CM9 nightly) I get the same error. After that all I can do is to flash DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_CEE_ROOTED_No_Signed.sbf again.
I think I'm doing everything correctly, I did it already many times. I install 2nd init, reboot phone to recovery, do factory reset, install CM and google apps. Everything seems to work fine. But when I reboot the phone I get the same error again and have to use RSD Lite to flash an SBF.
What can be wrong?

What CM7 ROM are you trying to flash??

As I already wrote I tried CM 7.2 RC1 and CM 7.2 RC2. Both with the same result.
I had CM 7.2 RC1 installed for a couple of weeks until today.

I meant the build. You tried the CM7 build for GB kernel??
Coz it looks like you're trying to flash a froyo ROM.
Doesn't matter from where I send it, what matters is written above

neo.ank> You're right. I was trying to flash a Froyo build. I feel like an idiot now. The official 7.2 RCs are only for Froyo. Now I managed to install CM 7.2 Quarx's nightly build without any problems.
But it still doesn't explain, why I got the same error with CM9 Defy+ builds. Anyway I can live with 7.2 hapilly, but I couldn't with the stock ROM.

Well I think I read somewhere about the base ROM affecting CM9 installation..not sure 'bout it..
Technically, it shouldn't give the error..

Which one did u try? Quarx or Epyz..Quarx should work on MB526 as its GB kernel..for Epy u may need to flash a froyo kernel.

I tried to install Quarx CM9 build. Maybe I did something wrong. I'll probably try it again, when HWA will work completely.
I'm pretty satisfied with CM7 now.

[Q] (Q) cm9 on my defy with DFP-231 rooted?

Hello,
This is my first post, but i'm not new to this forum. I read a lot of the threads and performed almost every flash recommended by several users.
In the first place i want to thank all of you for doing such great work!
But now here is my question/ story:
I had cm7.1 installed on my Defy red lens, so far no problems, but wen i installed cm 9 made by Quarks i got a black screen.
After that i went reading on the XDA forum and got a new SFB file.
But that was DFP-2312 and could not be rooted, so i had to look further.
I found a thread with a rooted DFP-231, and that was working. Instaled 2nd ini t 2.0, and wanted to install cm7 again, for that was the last rom working like i wanted! Too bad it didn't, i got a black screen. after that i installed nearly every rom i could find, White Rabbit, picachu, Wiui, cm9.....
But every time i got bootloops (White Rabbit) or Bootloader error ( the rest)
After several times having installed DFP- 231 again, i don't know what to do anymore. I hope anyone can help me, cause i realy want to loose Blur and all the apps i don't use/ need!
I made a screenshot of my Defy.

It says Modelnumber MB526, but it was MB525. It's not a Defy+
I'll wait for your replies, thanks in advance,

[Q] How do I get Chrome Beta/Stable to work?

Ok, so I'd had two ICS ROMs on my phone till date\
Quarx's CM9 Nightly for Defy+
Fuzz's CM9 euroskank kang for Defy+
I was able to install Chrome Beta and Stable on both these ROMs, but am unable to render any page in the browser. Here are some screenshots

Connectivity to my data network is obviously not a problem since I'm being offered search suggestions and the progress bar is loading.
My build.prop already has the ICS id in it.
I've browsed the forums and people have suggested that this problem is caused by the lack of Hardware Acceleration(HWA).
So can anyone either guide me on how to go about fixing this? Or maybe a suggest a full HWA enabled ROM for me?
Thanks!
Chrome is not yet stable on any cm9 rom.

Thanks for replying, but stability isn't even the issue here. I've actually never been able to get a [age to render despite having no trouble installing. I've seen other people on custom ROMs using Chrome.
Anyway, is there no ROM out there supporting full HWA?

No.
Chrome doesn't work on any rom.
Regarding hwa, the closest we've got is epsylon3's rom ,where barring few apps like (play store, chrome etc) ,everything else works.
but still its a no go for chrome !
chrome will NEVER work on the defy/defy+. epsylon stated that our froyo/gb 3d driver lacks some opengl extensions chrome (and ics/hwa) would need, and with the locked bootloader we cant implement the ics driver. sorry to be the one bringin the bad news. :/

I can confirm that this is true.
What version?
I have Version 3.1.2.1 (w/license) and it open and installs the module w/o issue
Running CM9, RC2
It's a CM7 issue it seems, well the latest CM7 with stock kernel.

i am glad that you can get that on cm9. i can not when i stream pandora for over 2 hours a day and usually get stuck in crappy coverage. just sayin.
is that stock kernel?
Edit: I think I found my problem with cm9 battery life. my 1800 is flaking out battery drain 15% in half hour switched to stock and getting very good results so far.

Best (complete) kitkat 4.4.2 Custom Rom

im brand new at xda.
Most of the custom roms based on kitkat 4.4.2 are still incomplete and is a pain to live with, including famous ones like PA, PAC man etc. im tired of trying out the beta builds. Can anyone suggest a good stable 4.4.2 based custom rom for nexus 4? thanks in advance.

You should also try Official CM11 + HellsDoctor kernel CM version (CM version because of CAF)
CM11 is "beta" but i found 0 problems, it is very stable, no errors or anything. If they hadn't written it was Beta i bet you wouldn't know is it stable or unstable!

We do not allow best ROM/Kernel threads on XDA. The question is subjective and what's best for someone else may not be best for you. Head over to the development section, try some out and see which best suits your needs.

I didn't update to Cyanogenmod 13, because to work it correctly, some wipes are needed.
And I don't want to wipe my date yet. I will wait some more weeks to flash cm13.

You don't need to wipe. Only wipe caches. You just have to flash the nightly and gapps for Android 6.0 . I did that with official nightly too for a test. The first boot will take a lot of time. The upgrading apps part does take about 20 minutes.

to be honest I initially flashed the nightly recovery and then the nightly rom, but when i tried gapps for android 6.0 I got message from the recovery that there's not enough space etc.. So I made it work with TWRP recovery and the CM13 nightlies...
