FREE USB, WiFi, Bluetooth Tethering - Epic 4G General

I know someone probably has posted this already but over an hour looking for a suitable solution without installing some app on my phone and computer...
I was running CleanG3 on my Epic and the USB and WiFi tethering worked fine but got sick of the update notification to FC09, so I resetup my phone with Android 4.0.4 ICS and CyanogenMod 9 B3. Normally I would simply ask on that thread but my account limitations says I can't...
I want to use the built in USB or WiFi tethering but it has to be "unlocked" first because I'm not paying Spring $40/mo to use my own unlimited data. Even the Bluetooth tethering would be cool, but really I only need one of them to work and prefer USB.
Anyone know of something I can flash or what ever to get rid of the sprint checks so it works?
Thanks in advance!

If your on cm9 your good to go... you can use the built in tethering...

Settings>more>tethering and you are good to go.

I was trying that... Found the issue though.
In order for USB Tethering to work you have to disable USB Debugging. I don't really know why my original test of WiFi tethering didn't work, but after disabling debugging that seems to work now too. Still haven't tested the BT Tether, but I have a feeling maybe that works too.
Thanks for the assistance!

FoxFi is working fine on stock no root required.
Sprint is blocking it in the Market, but you can download apk directly from their web site.

Im having a similar issue. Im rooted with the stock Rom. I dont have a custom rom nor do i really want one for the fact that im still new to all this and i probably wouldnt know how to.
My issue is that i cannot wifi tether my phone to my laptop. I have the app WiFi Tether. I enabled access. I have checked usb debugging. But for some reason my laptop does not read that my phone is a wireless router... I have also tried physically usb connecting it but it wont work that way either. Anyones help would be appreciated.

Try foxfi which was posted right above your post... just tried it and it worked great for me... could be a problem with it not broadcasting in infrastructure, but in ad hoc... some cpus don't connect to ad hoc networks... foxfi should broadcast infrastructure...

Thanks!!! ^^^ It worked great! I hope it lasts!

Trying to figure out the problem with my internet connection so i figured id revive this thread. I downloaded foxfi with no issues and it worked great up until this morning... I have a feeling it is because of the new system update but not sure. I notice that when foxfi is running now it no longer activates sprint hotspot like it used to. Any suggestions or someone know anything? Thanks in advance.

We just tend to assume that accidental strays into this forum are Touch owners, because that phone does at least have "Epic" in the name...

I think I've been elligible for my upgrade for at least a month or three, but I'm seriously considering sticking with my OG Epic until it dies - hopefully a worthy replacement will come out by then...

okay, so there is no charge from sprint for this then, correct? or is there?? i dont want to be surprised when my bill comes!
Im running CM9.

No. They cannot add the fee unless you request adding the plan and agree to terms and conditions. However they can cancel you altogether for excessive data use under TOS. It is hard to prove you are using your phone as a modem without a tethering plan so they cancel you for excessive data use. Reading between the lines means don't be a data hog.

Tethering

I searched for 'tethering' and 'tether' but didn't find it here.
Tethering allows you to use your phone as a router to access data services from laptops and other similar devices. While the speeds may not be close to broadband, with maximum connectivity with 3G webpages load quite fast.

If you have root, then yes, Wireless Tether for Root Users solves that and doesn't get you charged by your carrier
I've used it extensively on Sprint, as long as you're not tethering to a lot of deivces, you're good

Can I have web2go on my Vibrant if I root the phone?

I had an hd2 with an Android evo rom which let me use HDSPA speeds with web2go... now that I got the vibrant (without the 30 dollar plan), is it possible to use web2go if I put a custom rom like on my hd2? I obviously know from continous research that its impossible to have it with the stock rom but is it possible to have web2go with a custom rom? thanks.
No. It does not matter what ROM are you running, unlocked or not. They know your IMEI number if that is a T-Mobile model.
Probably, first few hours works with web2go plan, then they'll block. Also you'll receive SMS messages for reminding you to add correct data plan.
Tip it will still work. I've tried myself.

I've used it with every custom rom for the vibrant and it worked every time. Do you get signal at the top of your notification bar with edge showing it's downloading and uploading? There should be a green and red bar blinking if you do.

I'm curious if this still works also. My girlfriend recently lost her phone so I am giving her my old G1. She is coming from a dumbphone she she doesn't use the internet much, will mostly need it for checking email and getting directions.
The internet2 thing works I hear?
Crazy I have those arrows when I try to go to a website... but it redirects me to web2go data update... even when I have those two arrows. Does web2go work for you with a stock rom? If not then what custom rom should I use (that will look the same as the stock I like the stock)

I know TMO is getting very picky on their data plans, and they insist you have a smart phone plan for your Android device, so they may have started blocking some how ..
But there has been announced that $10 200meg data plan for smart phones.

You have kind of answered your own question IF you are getting redirected to "web2go data update" , then TMO is telling you that you need to have a smartphone data plan, and most likely your phone has been identified as a smartphone.

[Q] EVO hotspot hack?

I don't know if any one has found this but the incredible has been able to do it by changing the system software without rooting it. My friend did this and he was able to use the tether on/off switch on the settings menu without ever having to pay the extra amount. Does anyone know of a method like this for the EVO? Sprint Hotspot on unoffical froyo? "Block Authentication" out yet?

I am looking for a way to use the sprint hot spot on the leaked froyo build but it does not seem to be out yet.
Is there an app that works the same way as sprint hot spot. I don't want ad hoc because it does not support some devices. If anyone has anything that does not require "flashing" a custom rom to get this I need to know.
I found Moble AP but you need to flash it with clock work recovery and I would lose the froyo build.
Thanks in advance
No dice on AP and 2.2 on Epic. If AP is that important to you, go back to 2.1, else live with wireless tether and Ad-hoc.
If you search you will find what your looking for.
We have nothing got froyo yet but people are working on mobileap. We are still on a froyo leak so stuff like this is delayed cause official froyo may be different then are leaks

[Q]About Open Garden wifi tethering

I tried using the open garden wifi tethering app (rooted off course) but when i was using it, i got a notification saying hotspot was activated. So i clicked on it and it took me to sprint hotspot app saying "hotspot activated". This is the first time something like this happened (used Open Garden before) and got scared because i know i have to pay 49.99 or something like that to use the app, and stopped tethering. Should i be scare about this? Despite the fact that the app said i was using hotspot, i wasn't using their hotspot app and the thing to activated it on the app was unchecked.
I want to know because i am under my fathers plan and he said if i ever added an extra payment on the bill he'll take me off his plan.
Also sorry for posting a question on this board, people usually go in the general forums a lot more and reply to topics faster.

How does this even begin to address the OP's concern? You responded to a keyword that you recognized in the post, instead of comprehending the meaning of all of his words in the order in which they were presented.
He is worried that he will be charged for using the paid hotspot, and rooting his phone won't change it if he was being billed.
However, it sounds like that app has been updated, borrowing from the free wifi tethering app (open garden wifi is based off of the open source wifi tether, hosted on Google projects).
It is activating software that is already present in the stock firmware, but it cannot call Sprint and ask them to add an option to your plan. The paid hotspot (unhacked) will not work without that option on your plan, so if it is working then you either added the option, or you aren't being charged because it was activated via a hack.

Since it seems that open garden is always just a little behind the open source project on which it is based, I think it is a safe bet that the "developers" behind open garden haven't added anything other than gps tracking of its users. I say, just stick to wifi tether, since it is the original (and I don't trust an app that only adds location tracking when the purpose of the app has nothing to do with location)
