video effects in ics - Acer Iconia A500

ok so theres all the new settings in camera for video effects and such, has anyone else tried out the video background setting?
you take a video, then another video with the first as a moving background,,,you can then record yourself again overlaying the original video.,
im luving it,. but it is VERY choppy and full of screen artifacts is anyone else having better luck then mine?

Yup! It's really awesome. Best result in nice bright condition, keep the tablet as steady as possible. Watch out for any moving thing in your real background, a slight change will ruin everything. And not only your camera videos can be used as a background, any video that can be played by the default video player works too!

CORR! was beginning to give up that anyone else had checked the ics camera lol these new features were not boasted about as much as they should have lol

I know right? these features are too awesome to be ignored. U know there's an ics rom called tabooney, it had a bug called 'sleep of death'. So they uploaded a patch for it, but after installing it, the camera effect features doesn't work at all. But everybody keep saying, yes now its perfect, thanks now its 100% stable, no bugs at all. Can u believe it? They don't even know these features exists!

lol flexreaper all the way

I'm on flexreaper 14 and the background doesnt really work. as soon as you move into view the background breaks up and disappears, with both cameras.

Yeah same here on the 12.5 special edition' I think that's about as good as it gets so far it is still very new to android
Also like above user said it works best in bright conditions and I find it works better the further away you are so you are taking up less screen.
Check the. Pic above and see if u can get a better result

Is there footage of evo's homescreen running at +50fps?

I would absolutely love to see some footage of the evo running at 50 or 60 fps. Not so much the test screen but just navigating through the homescreens would be perfect. If anyone has a video camera and wants to film their evo or knows where i can see some footage please send it my way. Thanks to all of you who have been unlocking the potential of this phone!
I still don't have an evo but will be buying one on friday and this would help to win me over 100%.
Thanks!
Edit: So I've seen a few videos and the smoothness and reaction timing of the uncapped evo is wonderful. I can only assume that the performance and stability will increase as time goes on.
If anyone has anymore footage of their uncapped homescreens and menus let's post em here. Thanks everyone!
Coming from an iphone, the 30 fps really hasn't annoyed me too much. It annoys me that the droid x has it and HTC can't get a straight answer out about it, but overall, it's still better than my iphone - not as clean or polished, but better.
Go get it!
Yeah i've pretty much made my decision that I will be getting it. I would just love to see some footage of the homescreen at +30fps.
footage? go look at the novatek screen thread, there's plenty of proof there
well there are plenty of screen shots of the bench mark testing but no footage of homescreen navigation that i know of

I can shoot some of my Epson home screen at 30 fps with my iphone, if you'd like, but I think the reason why there is no actual video proof is because most video cameras only shoot at 30fps, so it'd not going to make any difference on video.
Yeah! if you could shoot that footage and then upload to youtube or something that would be awesome. Even youtube videos of the stock evo homescreen shows some lag so i think i would be able to notice a difference if I saw footage of evo uncapped.
Thanks!

Oh, well mine is capped. I don't want to bump the refresh rate up just to make it look slightly smoother. I've played with other android phones before and the evo is 100x better. I would have the new iphone 4 if the evo hadn't come out, plus I get 23% off out monthly sprint bill, so that helped, too. Haha.
The all apps menu in list view is lightly laggy right after you bring it out of sleep, but it's really quite smooth after a few seconds. I'm running fresh 5.3, too, which helped quite a bit, and I have a live wallpaper running, too.
There was a video footage month ago.search YouTube.its a kernel called GODMODE by Toastchf and the devs still working on it for all custom Roms.its a work in progress.

I don't have any footage, there is plenty though but I just did the hack to my EVO and I'm running around 46 FPS stable and the home screens are SMOOTH as hell.
Even though it's a "dirty" hack as they put it, my god it works nicely.
Too bad it doesnt speed up Divx videos though!

Thanks for the lead! Performance looks amazing. I love modding and tweeking devices so it looks like i'll have a lot of fun with this evo.
If you're looking for something a little more recent, I recorded a video today demonstrating the smoothness of the Evo once the frame cap has been removed. What makes my video sorta unique is that I first show how responsive it is before the kernel kicks in; afterward, I cycle my screen and show the home screen stuff once the cap is disabled.
Big thanks to all the developers who made this possible.

Thankyou for posting that. The video shows a definite increase in smoothness and reaction time. I'm sold. Getting one on friday. If anymore videos become available put them on this thread. I think it's valuable to see the real world practical advantage of using the modified kernel. Again, many thanks goes to the developers and to their hard work.

Yeah, it's Fresh 1.0 with the Fresh Toast Kernel available through Fresh updater. Since toast is responsible for bringing it to the updater, I'm assuming it's the godmode kernel.
Everything works fine, I'm usually in the 50-52 fps range. However, there is a noticeable amount of tearing when you're scrolling with the phone in landscape mode.
So all I have to do is flash fresh 1.0 and that includes the godmode kernel ?

[Q] Camera blacking out at every ROM ?! [No solution]

ok i had my X8 about a month ago and since then i tried every ROM that's out there literally. Recently i settled to froyobread for about 10 days and now floyo 0.25
my problem in both is the cam after taking a few shots, the camera screen black out or the cam button dies on me and i really hate it
i take a lot of pictures and i just hate it when the prefect shot gets lost because of a stupid glitch. i can give away EdgeGlow if there is a ROM that has a fully working cam with no bugs.
the reason for the thread is to ask u X8 users instead of going all over the ROMs again ( i still have them all ) to see the stable cam, Could anyone tell me what's the best ROM to take pictures with?? and please don't tell me to go back to Eclair (2.1)
thank u all

anyway i would never back to eclair so i'll have to deal with that bug for now.

like i said i tried all the ROMs but then i wasn't testing all the things but i remember ditching minicm because the power gadget looked like it lacked some colors or scaled up. i guess it's because of the screen size difference between X8 and X10 mini. however i remember the beautiful animations especially for boxes popping up.
just plz confirm that i can take like 10 shots in succession (say with 1 sec delay) without the cam bugging on me
Forget the stock camera apps and use Camera Illusion.
It´s better, doesn´t have errors and has great effects, like negative and that stuff.
I do experienced the same thing..
try other alternative. I'm using Camera Advance Lite, it works perfect.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mnapps.cameraadvancelite
This is the same thing which happens with me. I tried using alternative camera apps like vignette but still the same problem.
After some shots, the camera just blacks out and you cannot take any pics after that until a reboot is made.

X 2.3.3 GingerBread Update impressions(Guide to people installing GB)

The new update for X10 is out already! after about 8 hours of using and about 7-8 reboots the phone seems fast now!
Now what does that mean it means we can implement All 2.3.3,2.3.4 or 2.2 roms out there with the Perfect camera!
and the kernal can be used to Tether and roms running 2.3.3 can be made rock stable!!!!
Android version - 2.3.3
BB - 2.1.71
Build no - 3.0.1.G.0.75
Apps included in stock
-Timescape
-New music app(with new skin and easy to use UI! much faster than Mediascape)
-new camera app(similar UI)
-New Gallery
-Track ID
-Media Discovery
-News and Weather
-Google maps,latitude,talk,gmail,places,navigation,youtube and voice search
-playnow store
-office suite
-postcard
-sync
Soon Dev section will overflow with new Roms and old ones updated. Z is working on something big i guess! and J rom will soon be completed
All other GReat Devs will be out with new Blazing roms!
-after a few reboot Phone seems faster and glides through Menu and Gallery and timescape(Lame app)
-2.3.3 Running for 8 hours no Wlod no crash! running smooth and No need of any app killers as GB is optimised in app handling
-Large Scrollable photo and video widget works GREAT
-Camera works Great go you cant get the UI to Potrait mode, but the pictures are much better than 2.1. 720p Recording is smooth and focus during recording is mind blowing really loving it!
-The screen off animation works well, edge glow is clear and is not pixelated(White edge glow)
-keyboard works fine and responsive and the text cursor works well
-Tether work Fine and network is great with new BB!
- the highest possible for me is 187mb free memory with using native app killer but mostly GB can handle this well so you wont slow down!
-there is a new feature added now i dont know if it is a Pro or a Con. when downloading something from the Market a cyan Led blinks and while installing from market cyan led blinks indicating Downloading and installing!
-The vibration seems much more responsive as soon as you get a Msg it vibrates and the vibration intensity has also been increased
-x10 now give cyan Notif light whenever you install something, download something, or you miss your alarm or any other important notifs are
show by this Led good feature but i hate it at night when i am using it!
-NO BOOTloader is not unlocked
-NO Fps cap removal or increase
-NO 16 million colours
-NO Multi touch or improved Dual touch
-Low call volume
-Cam Flash still the old lame Photo light! work around Vig works fine but not as good as the New 2.3.3 Camera
-No improvements in Screen or any display aspect
Whats best after having the update!(note: if your reading this now dont download the update from SEUS)
-now at first the Bravia engine was thought to be a joke but now it really gives more sharper and vivid images!thx to Z again
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193274
-sony's fps cap makes moving through the screens a pain in the neck thanks to Z for his fps uncap!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192867
IF you think doing this one by one is a pain in the neck then download Wolfs X TW
which already has pulled out Sont crap apps
and Fps uncap+BraviaEngine 100%
and its optimised
If you are starting from 2.1 or 2.2 roms i recommend going with Wolf's rom as its both faster and has more features than stock!

Very pleased with the update. I think SE did a great job! I actually for once like the new timescape widget...however what bugs me is that they didn't link the camera to timescape anymore. So, once root is available, im affraid timescape has to go lol. If they would have linked the camera to it, I for sure would have kept timescape this time.
My only other thing is im patiently waiting for a root method...I know there's pre-rooted firmware, but Im just not in the mood to flash back to 2.1, root it, blah blah blah. So i'll wait.
I just hope Z or someone is actually working on a root method?
Overall, SE, very slick update,, congrats!

I agree. Timescape and the whole Facebook inside Xperia concept is amazing and works well. I just wish there was a way to 'show friendship' like in facebook, where it groups you and that person's FB tagged pics, status tags, wall posts etc. into one app. That would be cool.

HTC Zoe - Thoughts?

When I first heard about Zoe, I thought that it would simply take a few photos and a 3 second video whenever you take a picture. I also thought that it couldn't be turned off.
That was really putting me off because it would take way too much memory storing Zoe's all the time.
My mind changed, however, when I saw the following video -
It shows that it can be turned on and off at will and it shows a few more of the video editing that can be done natively rather than needing to download a separate app.
What are your thoughts on Zoe? Is it a good integration? Do you think you'll use it a lot? What do you think could be added to Zoe to make it better?
i didn't know Zoe did all of that which was showed in the video. Might be a neat little feature once you get the hang of it
I can see myself using and enjoying Zoe a lot, it's a really interesting and useful software IMO.

I'm only worried about how much storage space will take having all that.
Got to use the device the other day and I must say the Zoe feature does have a wow factor we took a few Zoe snaps and the displayed on a reel and it did look incredibly impressive. I would think the novelty would wear off eventually but im still going for it

Thank you for posting this video. Prior to seeing it, I was rather meh about the HTC One. Now that I see all of the photo editing functions brought on by the HTC Zoe feature, I will definitely be picking this phone up immediately. The three second clip itself I am not too interested in, but all of the abilities to manipulate photographs (sequence/touch-ups/removal) thanks to the additional frames provided by HTC Zoe makes for a wonderful experience to be had.

I'm not too keen on the 3 second clip either but perhaps we will be able to disable that bit but still have all the other useful features which Zoe is packed with. I haven't had a chance to test the One yet so I can't be certain about it yet though.
The sequence and removals will definitely be ideal though because the sequence will be perfect when I'm BMXing (just like it shows in the video) and removals are perfect for pictures being taken in a crowded public place.

I want to see if we can use our own audio tracks for the soundtrack feature, be it an available option or by finding the folder where they are stored and adding what we want.
My thoughts on Zoe?

When I first heard about Zoe, I thought that it would simply take a few photos and a 3 second video whenever you take a picture. I also thought that it couldn't be turned off.
That was really putting me off because it would take way too much memory storing Zoe's all the time.
My mind changed, however, when I saw the following video -
It shows that it can be turned on and off at will and it shows a few more of the video editing that can be done natively rather than needing to download a separate app.
What are your thoughts on Zoe? Is it a good integration? Do you think you'll use it a lot? What do you think could be added to Zoe to make it better?

After watching this definitely made up my mind I'm getting this phone! Zoe would be perfect for when I go to Italy and Greece next summer since I took my vivid last summer to Europe . I just hope there is a decent amount of development for it and gets root easily. Since my hox just got soff

From looking through this thread and the stock recovery thread (in development section), dev support really won't be a problem and will likely get root and custom ROMs available fairly quickly.
Anyone really tested this out yet? I know the One is already available in some countries, so hopefully some testers are around

I have a One, and have been taking a few Zoes.
One thing you need to know is that they will eat up space fast. Each Zoe stores 20 full 4MP frames, plus an mp4 video with audio, for a total of about 36MB for each Zoe.
The highlight video is neat but a little buggy. The filter for selecting which photos of an event are to be included doesn't work, so if you only want a subset you have to copy the subset to another event (gee, even more space eaten) as a workaround until HTC fixes it. Besides that, it works well. The songs you can pick are tied to the set of transition effects and filters used, which are matched to the beat of the music. The photos it picks and what order they go in is unfortunately random. No ability for custom songs and transitions yet.
I haven't experimented with the retouches yet, but the potential is pretty impressive for things like Always Smile. I can foresee myself taking Zoes indstead of stills and then only keeping the best frame for a lot of photography applications.
You cannot digital zoom when taking Zoes. It would look really bad anyway though, 4MP is not enough for quality digital zoom - Stills are terrible zoomed.
Thanks for pointing out that highlight selection bug. Thought I was doing something wrong there . Works good as alternative splitting events and selecting the stuff I want to use in a new highlight. Hope htc fixes this in a future update.

[Q] picture rendering time problem?

I didn't notice any problem like this in any of my other devices.
but whenever i take a picture with G2, and try to have a look at it in gallary,
the picture would first look really blurry at first.
and after 0.5~1 second, the the blur image would get cleaned up from top to bottom of the screen in multiple section, from right to left.
is this normal? or do i have a defect phone?
sorry for the multiple threads, my computer froze up for a second :/
It's normal. These are HUGE images and it is just essentially needing time to "load" it up and process it.
You can also try using a third-party app like Quick Pic which I think does a little better job of caching things.
But no, you don't have a defective phone just because of that.

okay, thanks for the info.
can i ask you few more question? i don't feel like starting another thread.
first question is about the camera. whenever i try to record something while moving the camera, the camera would try to focus itself very often. it feels like it's doing it too much. is this normal?
second, i don't know if you would know this, but would outdated router prevent G2 from getting connect to the home network?
thx XD

1) Yea, its normal for the G2, but its hardly ideal. It is something that has been mentioned in reviews and hopefully a future patch fixes it and makes it more stable.
2) Yes, it would. I've owned routers flat out incompatible for whatever reason with some devices I own. You may have luck forcing the router into a particular channel and/or G-mode -- or upgrading its firmware.

sorry to bother you with so many questions.
one last question
when i record a video with 60fps, and look at the video in the gallary, the video seems to studder alot. the video looks more like 6 fps than 60 fps
i assume this is not normal, right?

Yeah, video sucks right now. It's really unfortunate as this is mostly an excellent phone. I'm sure DEV support or a official patch will fix it.

Hmm, my 1080p 60fps video is fine on playback...
I usually opt for 720p though just to conserve space and because the video usually ends up on facebook or youtube anyway so it isn't like 1080/60 is necessary.
