Root, custom ROM and possible Voodoo Sound - Galaxy S III General

Sorry if I shouldn't ask etc, but I'm curious:
On release of the original i9000 (which I'm coming from), it seemed to take weeks if not months for root etc to be made.
How long would you guys guess it will take for root, custom rom and possible voodoo sound kernel to become available?
For me voodoo sound seems quite important...

Root will be a matter of days, custom rom starting from stock weeks, asop roms i guess months given the new soc (provided that the bootloader will not be crypted). No idea for kernels.

we can see custom kernels from a few days of source code release

Root was done in just a matter of days for the i9000.

Sweet, sounds good then. Voodoo is the biggest thing I'm going to miss for a while when I make the change over.

Sorry for being so ignorant, but what is voodoo sound exactly?

S3 is powerfull device and with root and tweaks it will be most powerfull device in the world.

Just saw this from Chainfire on twitter:
"I've seen some SGS3 firmwares. Unless the bootloader is locked (which I doubt), rooting the SGS3 will be completely trivial. "

AOSP Push Gingerbread

JBQueru just wrote here: https://groups.google.com/group/android-building/browse_thread/thread/91172a81604c8a0?pli=1 that the AOSP Push just began.
So it should be possible to have our i9000 roms soon
gogogo ! Cyanogenmod soon i hope

But he also stated that building aosp for nexus s wasn't easy at the moment. Going for sgs won't be easier anyway I'm still checking on xda every 5 min to see some news...

I also think so...maybe it has something to do with samsung binarys.keeping that in mind we should see the first build on a htc phone i guess.
Also,i think his post is related to supercurios root and unlock patches - this is a dangerous process

I would think its unlikely before Christmas. I mean, Samsung said they are working on one, so I'd happily use that before a proper AOSP one comes out.

Droid x rom compatibility...

Will droid x roms work on our i9003 as both have same chipsets...but it is a cdma phone and resolution is 480*854..

but it is a cdma phone this is the biggest problem because we need GSM module to work, to do this we need GSM drivers compiled for kernel from droidX fw.
So if I flash a fw of droid x in my i9003,then then network would not work but will the rest of the features work?

Do you think there will be cm7 support for i9003 in near future?..
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
May be in the near future as we get CWM recovery
CM7 is a distant dream, as none of the Devs have adopted this phone. To port CM7 we need a good devs support. Its a hard fact.
but phones like galaxy 5,optimus gt540 and galaxy 3 which are not so popular have cm7 support.... its not fair for us (i9003) owners..

The dev's most likely have one, or had one, and could thus support it. Buy them one to support, or stop complaining.
No idea why i'm still reading this forum, the complaining is getting old. :/

Both of you are right, if we need some support we need to donate the phone to devs.

No There are 3 ways:
1. Become developer
2. Donate the phone to developer
3. Wait for Samsung
Sent from my GT-I9003
If we are taking about CM7, samsung cannot help and becoming dev over night is not easy, to port custom firmware. St the max we can port a theme out an application.

Quick question..

My buddy wants me to root his Droid 2 and flash a custom ROM for him. I do not own this phone so I do not know how to do this on his phone.
Best place to find tutorials for root and clockwork? All the stickies seem to be outdated.
Thanks in advance.

make sure you install the motorolla drivers, then enable usb debugging and put on charge only mode, use motorolla one click root and it should auto root for you and restart 3 times, then download droid 2 bootstrap best bet is to pay for it but i think its on koush's site for free, then install any rom you want i suggest my miui defx for d2 or a cm7 rom hope that helps
Or you could flash my new AOKP build 28.

Yea I definitely want something completely stable. Everything to work and maybe a custom kernel so i can change it to fit his needs. He said his battery sucks. So maybe undervolt..? He doesn't play games heavily or anything like that so that would be a good option.

Oh then defiantly go with MIUI or cm7. My builds orientation doesn't work yet. Sadly it isn't possible to install custom kernals.
Honestly, Galnet MIUI 2.2.10 has absolutely the best battery life I've seen for the D2. I've heard that one other--the name of which escapes me at the moment--is comparable on that, but Galnet and other versions of MIUI that I've used beat out CM7 on the battery front. I usually have about 60-70% charge left at the end of every day.
As far as everything else, CM7 and MIUI are both great, very customizable, and none of the crap bloatware from VZ.

Is there a way to port that rom so we could get the official psone games instead of messing with emulators?

Was rooted. AOSP bricked my phone.
No insurance and $200 later, here I am, having to make a warranty claim because HTC screwed up while putting my phone back together.
Rooted. Took the plunge after owning my AT&T M7 for 45 days. Wanted to take advantage of 4.2.2 and I am glad I did.

I'm stock but unlocked through revone to debrand and force 4.2.2 ota.

Rooted but I staid on stock for a pretty long time until revone came along. I only used that to solve a bad kernel wakelock I was experiencing and knew was fixed in 4.2.2. I wanted to go to stock 4.2.2 but can't since now my device is s-off usage reporting to HTC is on and can't be turned off and that is causing bad battery drain too.
But I think all in all the One is so good out of the box there isn't really a big reason to root....
Rooted just cause I'm deeply in love with ARHD. LOL

Rooted & Stock.
It's nice to have a play & see all the lovely tweaks that are acheived with custom roms.
But I think stock has got that good on the One, that as far as day to day tasks & running go there isn't much between stock & custom. But it's sure nice to have a choice & I thanks all the great guys who do the custom roms :good:

AOSP didn't brick your phone. I'm pretty sure you didn't know what you where doing.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
There have been a few bricks on aosp and a few bricks with custom roms that I've read about, I believe that the problem is just random faults HTC, can't expect to have so much going on in a phone, mass produce it on a large scale and not have some phones shutting off permanently for unknown reasons. Sorry for ot. I rooted to see what my one is capable of, tried nearly every Rom but now I'm very content with a stock custom rom that allows me to modify and personalise everything that want
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
I'm stock and unrooted but planning to root after warranty time/no OTAs I love rooting and flashing (got a HTC Desire before and changed it every week ) but always take the OTAs until HTC announce there are no further updates anymore.
I'm pretty satisfied with the One unrooted though. Maybe only (real) negative aspect so far is decreased battery life compared to rooted devices.

Idc about different Roms so much, just basic aosp/ge for me.

Rooted mostly because ARHD did it for me automatically. Greenify is really the only app I use that requires root.
Stock
Spent ages going through ARHD/CM/AOSP roms and all that craic only to end up on a stock rom on the Sensation and had much the better experience on Stock.
Haven't rooted the ONE as i just really don't think it needs it (for me) and so far, i have been proved correct.
Rooted.
Why? So I can clean up the crap I don't want that they schlep into /system, and for tether.
