Hi everyone,
I really want your help.
As u discovered, I have a HD2 (best winmo phone ever).
I switch it to Android froyo 2.2.1 using an SD based type. (forgot the developer, thx though).
everything working completely (with slow speed), but:
1- Locations is not working (yet the GPS, Maps, and all google softwares are working), but when starting "locations", after less than seconds, it shows: "unable to connect to the server. Tap retry to try again, or Cancel ....", the same if pressing retry all the time.
Nothing on the net helped me: (tried to taper with build.prop, but i guess it did worst than good).
2- on winmo, i had a superb software where i can explore the content of my phone by using my internet browser and a WiFi connection with the IP address given by a program installed on the phone.
i found 2 programs on android (Airdroid and wifi file explorer PRO), they gave me the same ip address, but all my laptop browser could not connect to my phone. searched the net and also nothing helped (the ping showed: destination unreachable", the browser opens the search page).
Android Version
I found that the developer is MCCM HD v4.5 SD Android 2.2.1

What do you mean by "locations" ?? like an app? cause that could be app related not "your phone" related.

Ping issues again arent necissarlily a problem on your device. For some stupid retarded loser reason microsoft goes and disables echo replies in their firewall. I had the same issues with VNC Server. VNC Server first checks to see if destination is available via ping, and when that returned with a failed status, the connection also failed. So you should provide more detail for each issue. IE: Program specific things and what OS your computer has.
Cant wait to hear back! Good luck!

Thank you for replying.
1- the app is the HTC locations (it came with the build).
2- I have win Vista ultimate 64-bit, and tried IE, google chrome, firefox, and opera mobile; all either enter the search page, or shows page does not exists.

this version of android you are on is SD card right?
And go here to disable your windows firewall and also if you have a third party firewall disable that as well. Then try to connect to your phone. I have a feeling windows is blocking the ports.
didn't work.
Thank you for trying.
1- Yes I have a SD based version.
2- I disabled the firewall as given by the link, and disabled the 2 antivirus I have (AVG and microsoft security essentials).
same thing, going to the search page.

Enough is enough.
I had the same **** with my old PDA2K and now again with the Exec... I've spent 20 hours thus far on that ****. I just hard reset my machine yesterday and now again this **** happens and I cannot fix it.
I am surfing using UMTS/GPRS.. My definitions are FINE. There's only one connection. It was always fine that way on both the pda2k and the new exec.. but it stopped working now... it could be that some program messed up this ****, but i wouldn't know which.
Trying to browse to a site.. I get PIE saying 'Locating..." then after a minute or so saying "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded blah blah blah"... But the 3GUMTS is connected just fine.. Note that MSN Messenger doesn't work as well (I think that's because it's uses the core engine the PIE uses). Strangely, using networking utilities (vx) I can ping with the machine and even get HTML pages using web addresses. So the problem is not DNS and not a connection problem.. Just probably some damn problem with the operating system not recognizing something.. The 3rd party vxutilities for networking are bypassing that **** hence why they can browse the network just fine.
Tried deleting temp internet files and cookies nada... I also tried soft reset (about 20 times).. nada.... tried deleting the connection and recreating... nada... tried searchiong the registry for my connection name after deleted to see if traces exists.. nada...
Getting tired of this ****.. only hardreset solved it last time and i'm getting sick of becoming the machine's slave rather then the machine being my slave.
Help would be grately apprecaited..... I am sure it's ****ed up registry entry or something like that... I don't have many programs isntalled on my machine as I just hard reseted yesterday and my machine is in rather clean condition except for must have apps.
Help...SOS..

but that's not the issue.. it's wwaayy deeper than that... ( i would have found it after 20 hours of trying had it been this easy ...
No proxy whatsoever. I never used Wifi. No work setup.. only "My ISP Setup".
anybody else? I'm offering $20 by paypal for the kind soul who can help stop my frustration WITHOUT hardresetting my machine or doing drastic moves. I need a permanent solution. If I solve it before so.. I will post my fix here...
UPDATE:
It's working now, though I don't like the solution, I changed in 'Connections' to connect through 'My Work Network' although I don't actually have any work network and I'm using it the same way I used the "My ISP" connection. It may stop working again though. i'll update.. but I still don't get it why the normal My ISP which always worked stopped working.

com'on someone please help me out here. i'll donate another 20 euro to this site if i find a solution... What I did yesterday (changed it so that it will use only the 'My work' profile both both internet and work worked fine.. but only for 24 hours. it now doesn't work again even after multiple softresets as well as deleting and defining the account again.. what a frustartion.
Now only that i cannot use PIE, I cannot use Terminal Server as well.. which is a bummer
Toggle flight mode on and then off.
Have ever try to remove check box of proxy in network tab? With mine it works.
proxy issue
I noticed the same thing on my wizard, I think it may be caused by an internet explorer automatic configuration script. When I manually provide the ip address and port number of the proxy server, the problem does not appear. I changed this in Internet Explorer running on my PC and in the Work connection on my phone. I have also changed the setting in Active Sync to choose the Work Network setting by default instead of automatic.
The only way I got Internet Explorer back to work was after a hard reset.
It did not happen again in the past 1,5 week. I have been restoring the same backup after each of these hardresets so I had an identical install everytime. It seems to be fine now.
I don't know how WM5 handles Active Directory policies (if it handles them at all) that may change your IE settings as well.

My wizard does the same, it will work for a week or so and try using some random proxy for no reason!
I just uncheck the proxy tick box and the wifi connection works great with internet explorer. (well usually I tear my hear out for 5 mins and then realise its the proxy!)

PIE stuck at Locating
Hi mobiler,
I hope you have found a more permanent solution to your problem. I own an MDA Pro with TMobile UK and recently bacame plagued with the same symptoms which you reported, i.e., pocket explorer and opera mobile stuck at locating and not able to browse the web. Through some helpful suggestions on this thread I managed to find a solution which you may or may not have already tried. Like most people, I use my MDA pro at home on my home wireless Wifi network, and while away at work I use its GPRS/UMTS capabilities. I had no reason to think that these two features of the MDA Pro had any interactions with each other. In fact, I seem to remember reading somewhere that separate pieces of internal hardware provide these features. However, to my surprise/dismay I discovered that somehow the Wifi and GPRS/UMTS settings on the MDA pro are linked together. For example, if you setup a proxy server in the GPRS modem settings, which I recently did, without notifying you the Wifi connection also tries to use the same proxy setting. Vice versa if you setup a specific IP address and Gateway in your Wifi settings the GPRS modem connection also tries to use those settings and failing. The solution for getting back to normal internet browsing was to remove the proxy in modem connection by using its automatic settings ,and to tick the server assigned IP address for Wifi. This is a less than satisfactory solution, however, at least things are back to where they were before. I remain very puzzled at the interaction between these features and am dismayed and frustrated that there is nothing in the step by step procedures in each setting that warn you about a possible impact on the other.
I am trying to access my LAN shares from the Hermes.
My hermes has IP address 192.168.254.9 and my server has 192.168.254.3
So on my Hermes file manager (Total commander) I try to reach
\\192.168.254.3\d$
But it can't reach this.
What do I need to do on Hermes and/or server PC ?
Doesn't seem to work when using Active Sync but needs a WiFi connection.
I set up a VPN connection and whenever I try to access a network share it automatically starts up and I can browse the network. I just use the inbuilt file browser.
Actually it kinda works without the VPN but acts a bit strange... will go down the file structure but not up??
Doesnt work for me using active sync over bluetooth with resco file explorer at all.
Active sync gives you an ip address but if i remember its in the wrong subnet completely.
Using wifi and it works perfectly.

Isn't this a default share windows sets up for its own?
(these default shares are not available for use, I think they are there either for internal use, or to prevent one from sharing the rootfolder)
Could you try sharing a different folder on the PC?
Make a d:\test, and share this folder; there should be a blue hand under the icon of the folder.
It can help to switch off "Simple file sharing" (in Windows Explorer, Tools > Folder Options > View, bottom of the list, uncheck simple file sharing).
Jörg
it does not matter. I tried both a normal share and hidden shares like d$
Now I captured the traffic between my pocket pc and the server.
if I try to connect by \\192.168.254.3\ my pocket pc tries to resolve name of 192.168.254.3 , but in fact it does not need it.
As it couldn't resolve the name it never tries to connect.
edit:
I figured out that the problem occurs because my wifi connection is not connected to "work" but "internet"
if I change it to "work" I can connect to my shares.
But then, what do I lose ?

Don't know - maybe a few apps won't like it. But I've got wifi in internet mode and can still do shares... with a little help from "Pocket Hosts" and "NetUse". Not entirely sure where I got them from... try searching on them ("netuse.cab" on the net use one). Set the name/ip up in pocket hosts and use the name in NetUse. I suspect you could use the name in Resco Explorer or any other app that way.
Maybe I just don't understand the question, I always feel dumb after I speak. I installed An app called "pocket lan" and it just sorted it all out for me. Everything works, it was an older version too.
now there's one strange thing I've encountered...
I can access all the files and folders on my pc via wifi, yet only those that i actually put on sharing. Now when I try to reach the default shares (c$, d$ etc) while logged in as an admin it just doesn't let me to do that ... is there a way to log in as an admin ?
btw I'm using Resco File explorer for that thing - it is quite useful and has never let me down but the admin log in just doesn't work
any ideas ?
thank you all...
I hope those apps will help (I couldn't try yet)
btw, I found the following page with FAQ
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/networkutils.htm
well, I installed "pocket hosts" and "netuse"
pocket hosts works (I tested with vxutil)
however, when I try to map a connection in "netuse" , netuse does not work.
it is still trying to connect with ost name and makes nbname query on the lan broadcast address.
my server responds with its other IP.
why does not "pocket hosts" work ?
no matter which software I try, I get a "error 53 connecting to resource" error.
When I search for this , I came to the following page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/242001
This problem seems to be related to my problem. However, I am not using Windows NT 4
My servers are Windows XP
So what is my "error 53" ?
any idea would help me... please...
Hi.
I would like to use my HTC Touch HD with the WiFi at school. The only problem is that the WiFi is protected with something called Clean Access Agent. I've got this on my laptop, and it allows me to connect. Is it possible to install this program on a WMO?
Thanks
Hi Bungieman, I have run into this problem as well, and have not yet found any solutions here. I know it is impossible to install CAA on your phone as they do not have a cab for a mobile version. The only thing you can do at this point is contact your IT department. I believe CAA is able to bypass certain MAC addresses, (your phone has a specific one) but the people who install it must change that.
Programs that use Opera, Skyfire, or Safari should work, as CAA has no way to monitor those and lets those through. (That is why everyones Iphone works )
Hope this helps!
So the standard browser, Opera Mobile, should bypass the stupid program? I can't believe so many schools and universities from so many different countries use this program on a regular base. It takes both me and my classmates 15 minutes to start and log on to it. And it keeps bugging up. Yuck.
Ive searched and found and searched again and again an again. Im using Vista Home Premium and want to enable Remote Desktop (RD). The first thing I found ofcourse was the not present RD service of Vista HP. I installed the on the internet circulating .bat for Vista HP.
Okay the steps I took:
1. Download and install: Premium.bat from the .zip
2. Enable RD in computer -> properties
2. Open poort 3389 and set it TCP
3. Restarted both HD and laptop
4. Wifi enabled on my HD
5. Started RD: Filled in the following IP in Computername:
\192.168.1.XXX OR \86.92.85.XXX
Dunno which one to use? Local? First is from my Acces Point/Router second is the overall IP, but what do I use?
6. Account: My account on my laptop
7. Password: Password of my account
8. Domain: Dont have one, so blank
Still EVERYTIME I get the error something is wrong and it wont connect. Someone got an answer? I downloaded Remote Touch but it didnt work either.
There was a .reg for premium called TRonPremium.reg but did not apply it yet, dunno what it does and it is a .reg
Please could someone help me cause this is pretty useful for me!
The remote desktop service is enabled by default in vista. No idea why you have needed to install anything extra to get it working. Sounds dodgy to me. Anyways you use the local network ip address, not the external address, and you don't need to open any ports (although on mine I didn't have a firewall enabled on the machine I was accessing, the firewall was on my router). You do need to put in a username and password for the machine you are accessing though. Doesn't need a domain name, as you say, it can be blank.
I'd say the troubles you are having are to do with the dodgy reg and bat files you have downloaded. You shouldnt need anything other than a bog standard vista install to use RD, no matter what version of Vista you have. You may have a service disabled that is required too. If you have disabled any of these previously you may need to have another look at them and re-assess.
reg files add information to registry. If you are unsure you should NEVER add these without knowing exactly what they do. Can be very harmful to your pc. If in doubt, always leave them alone.
Hello
I use UltraVNC on vista,
And .NET VNC Viewer on ppc,
Both free and running without any problem from ppc or any other pc
When I was searching the internet I found multiple website claiming Vista Home Premium does not support the full RD. To solve this according to a few websites, you could install the .bat made to add the correct service. I even found this on XDA threads. How do you re-do a .bat file? Dont know how to work with it.
The .reg im leaving alone, .regs are evil for PCs imo!
Will try it out today, with what you just told me. If it does not work, Ill try the VNC and VNC client, though I heard it was slugish and the connections fails very quick.
Thank! If you still got tips/tricks, be sure to leave them
Ok well my 64bit version of vista home premium had it all enabled so I assumed they all did. Maybe you're using the 32bit one. Seems loads of stuff was disabled in that.
I tried the various VNC programs but gave up with those because the connection kept timing out, and it had more options than was neccessary. I'd say VNC was best if you wanted to connect via the internet, but RD is best for home use.
Good luck with yours I'm sure you'll get it working.
I have a stock Samsung Vibrant. It connects to my home wifi network just fine and is very fast.
At my school we have to register the mac address' of devices we have on their Clean Access servers. I have registered many devices that work fine.
I registered the mac address of my Vibrant, and it can connect to the wifi, but it will not load a web page. Does anyone have any idea of what is wrong.
I also registered my roommates Vibrant. His does not work either.
I work at the Schools Tech Support so I have access to register and edit my phone on their Clean Access servers.
Does anyone have any solutions?
are you using WPA/WPAv2 or WEP + RADIUS authentication? Does your vibrant obtain an IP address successfully? Can you ping the default router?
The wifi that works at my apartment is WPA2.
The wifi at school is an open network. I can fully connect to their wifi.
Status Connected
Speed 48Mbps
Signal Strength Good

IP address (a real IP address)
Im going out on a limb here. I am going to say its the Clean access and your "open network". I assume on your schools computer you use your student ID and some password. Your phone would need the same thing if that is the case. I know at my school, iphones are the only phones that can access our clean access. If its not the case then i am sorry.
my school runs clean access and it works fine. but they have two networks a guest and a login. i use the guest cause i don't want to waste the time to login. but i can try it on monday. typically with linux (i.e. android) you have a web portal and have to agree to some antivirus bs by clicking a button and that's it (and login for the non guest network). one thing i have noticed, though, is that typically i have to turn wifi on, connect to the network, try to load a page, it doesn't work, then i turn wifi off then immediately back on and try to load a page and it takes me to the login/terms portal page.

You should remove the IP from post. Anyways, it seems like the handshake is good. Note down the address of redirected terms and conditions page you get when trying to go online from a laptop. Then enter the same address in vibrant's browser once you are connected through Wifi ( or set it as homepage) and see if that lets it through.
Probably an issue with Android's lack of native NTLM support. AFAIK this is still unresolved. Have you tried using Fennec rather than the stock browser? I've heard you can authenticate properly using it.

interesting. i use dolphin hd and it works for the clean access web authentication page.
Could be, if your school does not have a guest account login for devices, that you are getting on the segregated network because CA cannot verify the "cleanliness" of your device. When I setup CA it verified patch levels and such on the non-guest network, so unless CA comes out with a Android client/access list, it may not work.

except then it wouldn't allow osx or linux. clean access requires an app for windows to verify service pack and av and whatever, but for linux and osx it doesn't. it wouldn't be able to (at least for linux).

That is correct but it can ID the operating system and has exceptions for those flavors ...
Hey it's me again.
I don't think it's an android thing because I had my G1 on the servers.
Normally what happens if you aren't registered on Clean Access is, if you open a web browser, you will be automatically redirected to an authentication page where you put in your school ID and password. This would work fine and allow me to get on the wifi, but it never came up on the web browser, it just tries to load the page for awhile and goes to a 'Page cannot be displayed' page.
Also I have tried using different browsers, including Dolphin HD.
If I can just get to the authentication page even it will be fine, I could work with that.
Also the school does have a guest login, but you have to get to the authentication page, and I wouldnt want guest access since it limits time, bandwidth, and features.
That is exactly what I said my last reply...Try putting https infront of your authentication URL, and make sure the java-script etc. is on in your browser...Try clearing cache and hit refresh as well. Also, see what happens if you set that URL as homepage...

did you try turning on wifi, wait for it to connect, try to load a page (any page because it will redirect you), wait for it to time out, pull down the notification bar, turn wifi off, turn it back on and then reload the page? i know it sounds dumb, but this is the only way i've got it to work at my school and it works every time...

to what flavors? i'm guessing android will show as linux since it's based off a linux kernel. more than likely it checks for windows, and if false goes to the default linux/osx page because to clean access those aren't threat os's.

they don't have the authentication URL on their homepage so I don't know what it is, it should automatically redirect me to it.
Also when I connect to wifi, try to load a page, let it time out, turn off wifi, turn it back on and connect again, and then refresh the page.. nothing happens it times out again.
Ok so I did find out the authentication page URL. Typed it into my phone. I had high hopes when a page saying "You are being redirected to the network authentication page. If you are not redirected automatically, then please click HERE".
Anyway it did redirect me, to a "Web page not available"... etc.
In the default browser it gave me the error... "Data connectivity problem. A secure connection could not be established". umm wtf?
Can you communicate with other protocols/ports? I used to be able to exploit a bug with our school's CCA servers where I could just connect unauthenticated and use SSH. (Maybe it was a feature?)
I can't use any other web protocols.
Bump. Okay. I've figured out how to do this . '
it's a t mobile vibrant either kernel or rom problem. My phone connected the very first time I tried to use it at an argosy site, then never ever ever again.
so. I used wifi manager to find out what the ip, gateway, subnet mask, and dns 1 and 2 were. I went to settings, wifi, options key to go to advanced options, from there selected static ip and entered all the info I gathered
bam! ! Connected every time.
Oh and btw, the reason I say its a tmobile vibrant rom or kernel problem is that on fusion, Eugene's and bionix final, I was able to connect right away, every time . And on my f friends att fascinate and verizon captivate, they never had to enter the static ip like I did. They connected right away every time . Yet everyone I know that had s vibrant kept having the same proble. m i did .
Tmobile. What a piece of ****. Anyway I figured nobody had this figured out so I'd jump in.
Hope this helps out some people. GL
