I am having the HD2 with "NexusHD2-ICS-CM9 v1.5" (Android 4.0.3). I saw that there was a new release with 4.0.4. I just wanted to know if it is possible to upgrade without wiping the phone. I dont want to re-install everything.
No you can't upgrade like that, you must do clean install because ISC is absolutely differ from GB if you don't want to lose things, then do back up with titanium or with CWM

Backup your apps with Titanium backup and (just in case you don't like ICS) CWM. Change the partition sizes as required, then flash the ICS ROM. Restore your apps either with Titanium or by doing an advanced restore in CWM and restoring the data partition. I would stick with the former method though because I'm not certain if the latter one works all the time as I've never actually tried it.
EDIT: Ignore this, and skip to the bottom. Although at the same time you should still make the backups. You can never be too safe
dont forget "sms backup & restore" and "call log backup & restore" so you dont lose anything,
and as long as you have the paid titanium backup (and who doesnt?) you can leave the batch to run on its own
it doesnt take very long to get back in action

IGNORE THAT, I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that. Apologies if you've already done a fresh install.

Yes, you're completely right. I think I must have misread his post or something. Thanks for that
puttagunta_h, it's possible, but you're mileage may vary depending on how you initially set things up. Read through the original ROM thread, you'll notice mixed results. For me, the upgrade from any of the prior versions has NOT worked as I'd expect them to. I'm always stuck at the boot animation. The only thing that works for me is a full wipe. Hope you have better luck.

Hi can I switch between these two with xrecovery " Backup / Restore" option ? whenever I want, I want to keep both roms in my SD card...
I know there's a method to dual boot but that's kinda complex. yeah ?
? anyone can answer this
Better use DualBoot because if you use backups you will lose your current data and you will restore your backup data. With DualBoot instead, you can switch between your ROMs.
by loosing data you mean contacts ? if so then it's ok and plz also provide a link about dual boot instructions for xperia x8 with xrecovery / rooted, Thanks mate.
By losing data I mean, you may have changed the settings or the wallpaper but when you restore the backup of the same ROM, your system will revert to the settings you had backed up, I don't know, even months ago.
Use MultiBoot instead, you will have a ROM saved in your internal memory and another ROM saved in your SD.
Follow the instructions on the MultiBoot thread on how to install it.
Does Multiboot work with stock Eclair?
Because the thread is only about CM6 and CM7 ROMs.
well i'm not going to multiboot, it's too tough and rather not necessary for me.. i will just use stock rom if something bad happens (bug) in froyobread, i will keep no data in stock !
K then. I also keep stock rom in my SD card while using another rom, just in case.

Hi all,
It seems I must have deleted the gingerbread nandroid backup I did before moving to ICS a while ago. There is now a need for me to move to GB for a few hours whilst I test something out.
Is anyone able to either:
- Point me in the direction of instructions on how to revert back to GB
or
- upload a STOCK GB nandroid that I can restore via cwm
thanks!
Have you looked in the development section? I'm sure there's stock GB ROMs available to just download and flash. I don't think anyone's gonna give you an actual nandroid as you'd then be logged into their account.

Is it safe to just flash a lower version ROM.. I was under the impression that it wasnt hence the request..
Just backup whatever you're on right now.
And do a FULL WIPE in CWM.
Then flash a GB ROM.
You can run (mostly) any ROM regardless of what your kernel, radio baseband.
You can't downgrade only when you do official updates like OTA.

Yes. Make a backup first and make sure you format /system and /boot along with the factory reset. And of course if you use Titanium don't restore any system data.

I made a backup of oxygen with .32 kernel. Now I am on ICS aurora 4.1 and I want to restore my backup of oxygen. can I restore without problems?
my CWM is 5.5.0.4 version
EDIT: it is the wrong place, please some moderator move to the right place
yeap wrong place, but answer is you will probably not see your backed-up apps even if you restore them.
Install apps from play store again.

Do you want to restore the entire rom? If so, I think you need to go back to official 2.2 from huawei, and then restore the oxygen backup.

yes, I want to restore the entire rom, but without a downgrade to stock rom 2.2. but never mind, I have afraid to break my phone with the downgrade

You must install official 2.2 first, if not, you won't have network when you restore oxygen.

I have successfully rooted my device using the version 2.0.0 of the toolkit. I think I'm going to donate a few euros to get the latest, the author deserves all the money.
A few questions:
What exactly is CWM? What's the difference between a backup made with titanium backup and a backup made with CWM? Is it enough to backup the system settings or do I need to backup even the apps? I mean the list of installed and purchased apps should be always available on the Google play account, at least I hope so...
Should I download the latest version of CWM (the . IMG file) and flash it with the toolkit or should I use the integrated version that seems to be IN the toolkit?
Thanks in advance for the answers.
A CWM backup will backup everything. If you restore it, your device will be exactly the same as it was when the backup was made.
Titanium backup only backs up apps and their data
But with titanium backup do I need to backup all the or only their data?
Is CWM useful even to install other Roms?
Sorry for the confusion: I'm not an expert.
Clock work mod will backup your entire android build as it is. all data, apps, settings, contacts, messages. etc
Titanium will backup apps and their data only
If you bork your software or try another rom then decide you want to go back, a Cwm backup will take you right back to the exact point you made the backup
Titanium is useful to have when changing roms because after loading a new one you can load your previous apps & data into your new rom whereas Cwm would completely overwrite the rom
In essence they are similar but perform completely different tasks
Sent from my Nexus 7
With titanium I usually just backup all user apps with data (meaning anything you have downloaded that is not part of the rom)
You cannot flash a new rom with titanium. that is what Cwm is for
Cwm deals with the roms
Titanium deals with apps

CWM is a recovery mod used for Flashing new rom while at the same time gives you handy things to do like, do a NANDROID- Creating a image for ur current rom and all its sys settings with apps and there data. U can also Flash other things like a previously created Update.zip for Titanium Backup, which is helpful after u have flashed a new rom and want all ur previous apps and data back.
A small thing a consider sharing, When Flashing a new ROM, Back up only the apps+data thing and not the System. As ur new ROM will have its own System settings (better to adjust it then than bfore). Now, also Create an update.zip, which a mentioned earlier from TitBckp Menu.
Have Fun.

Thanks.
I still don't get the point of backing up apps. I mean: their settings (and system settings) ok but why backup something that can be downloaded again from google play store? I guess my account keeps record of my installed and (above all) purchased apps (tapatalk only). Am I wrong?
Other question:
I'm using the stock Jelly Bean 4.1.1 rooted and I don't want to mess with cooked roms whatsoever. I rooted the device in order to get USB on the go support and TiBackup.
Will I get updates from google or I will have to manually flash a rooted version of an updated Rom? I think I will have to install CWM at the end, I guess

You do not have to lock your bootloader to get an update only reason to lock it is if you have to return it

So, in my condition (rooted stock rom) will I get the official google updates without doing anything?
You will still get the updates but Cwm will not be able to install them.
You would need the stock recovery to apply ota updates
In reference to your previous question regarding titanium. You could re download the apps from play store after a wipe.
Titanium also restores any preferences you had saved. And in the case of games it will also restore your progress & game saves

Thanks, so there's no point in backing up the whole app, we only need its data and settings.
I haven't installed cwm yet. Did you use the toolkit downloadable from another thread in this forum? If yes, does the toolkit automatically download the latest version of cwm?
I'm not sure with the tooolkits
I have never rated them
It's much wiser to learn to do these things manually as it really doesn't take very much learning and it's always valuable to know what to do in case you bork something

Does cwm also backup sripts like link2sd and 2nd fat32 partition?
Hi Guys,
Im looking to update my dads phone today and just have a quick question (it been a while since i did it and am a bit rusty)
Basically he currently has MIUI-STABLE V5 by langthang android 2.37 installed (i know i used Magldr for this but arnt sure of the exact process)
I basically just want to update to the last gingerbread Miui Rom (so i can just keep all his data as it is, not fussed about JB or ICS) i beleive this is 2.4.20
If i were to just drop this into the root of the sd card could i just use CWM to install this ROM without the need to do a system wipe? and just do Dalvik and Cache? Im hoping this will then put the phone on a stable build (it was having bluetooth issues)
Also once that is done can i add a EXT3 partition on the sd card(something i forgot last time!! and it now says no storage)
Thank for any help, just to sum up haha, i just want to update the rom to solve the BT issue, and add a EXT 3 (i found some instructions fo this) so it has more 'system memory' thanks for any help guys.
If it's the same ROM and uses the same /system partition (on occasion they change even if the ROM is the same) then that should be fine. I'd strongly recommend backing up in Titanium backup first at the very least (CWM backups can take a long time) just in case something goes wrong.

Thanks for your repl, im not 100% sure if its technically the same ROM, as the one installed (stil MIUI and GB) was a modded one from here. and the one im looking to install is the 'official' MIUI one (Still GB)n

In that case backup and fresh install, it won't work if it's not the same ROM. If the system partition is the same, wipe in CWM then flash the new ROM. Download and install Titanium Backup on your new ROM and restore your apps.
