GPS Works Once (No GPS reconnect for 50 minutes) - Networking

After obtaining a fix, and then disconnecting manually or automatically (via an app closure) I have to start the gps again within 10 seconds in airplane mode or 25 seconds out of airplane mode to reconnect. If I dont reconnect within this time frame it will not reconnect for about 40-50 minutes. Rebooting or shutting down does not help. This renders the gps specific functions of the phone useless. This does not impact the location services provided by other chips i.e. wifi, cdma (3g data).
If sats are only in view and no more than two are in use (a fix has not been obtained). You can end the session and restart it anytime without a reboot.
This test was actioned in and out of airplane mode but never connected to the network i.e only searching for the network. Its unlikely being connected to the network would impact the outcome of these tests. If you wish to test your own device you should download and use GPS test from the app store. Having or not having AGPS data has no impact on the tests outcome.
From reviewing the logs and assuming this is not a hardware issue my supposition is it appears that when an active gps session with a fix is closed the device does a gps_cleanup. Upon reconnecting it attemps to call back this session against cache that no longer exists. After about 50 minutes a new session is initiated. This problem is somewhat highlighted in this example code. https://github.com/android/platform_frameworks_base/commit/0a5098106c116f2b67c9e77e4ec0afbc92acd61c
I would also be interested in some insight into the cache cleanup commands in the gps.conf script file for this device. It appears GPS1_ CLEANUP_ENABLED=0 does not appear to work for this device. This example was pulled from another example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1338486 for another brand so maybe the commands are different with each device. I am also unsure if the gps.conf is read/executed too, per boot/ session/ agps call etc. I'm also unsure which permissions should be set.
I have also attached some log files of the various operations along with a copy of the GPS conf/ system files. In addition I have also noticed cleanup errors when im having problems getting a fix including status 9 errors and wrong prn errors too, I have no idea what these are.
I have already factory reset the phone without success and tried other roms. I do not believe this is a hardware error as it wouldn't function in the first instance.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Log Details
B1 - It finds some sats but I intentionally terminate the session.
B2 - I then restart it. It finds sats again and gets a fix.
B3 - A continuation of B2 but it is terminated manually. A2 would occur next.
A1 - Reconnects at end of the long searching/ downtime period (50 minutes) and gets a fix. I'm not sure why it starts working at this point or what triggers this and im not sure if it´s captured in the log.
A2 - This attempts to reconnect to the previous session via a callback but it fails even though the session is ongoing.

Wi-Fi Won't Turn On most of the time

My HTC HD has WIFI Problem: WiFi will not turn on most of the time.
After tapping the Wi-Fi Switch (in Communications Tab) it hangs for about 7 seconds then stops.
Sometimes after 6 seconds the wifi Icon will appear for 1/2 a second but then disappears.
The only way I can get it to connect at all is if the device is cool and I remove the battery for a while....
...Then restart it and Wi-Fi will switch on sometimes (but fail most of the time).
I have flashed the ROM (by different Cookers) many times, Hard Reset the device many times, and used all different power settings: Still no good.
If error reporting is ON I get error message "device.exe' problem.
As I live in Australia I would have to pay heaps for freight if I send it back to UK so I'm loath to do so.
Anybody know what should I do to fix it?
(PS. My old Diamond connects every time)
I have a similar WiFi connectivity problem, but after reading of the poor service provided by most vendors and HTC itself, I will try to gather some more experience with the problem before I contact HTC or my vendor, and hopefully find a solution. Bellow is my experience so far:
I own an HTC Touch HD since January and have a similar problem, only it surfaced last week. Before I had only used the WiFi connectivity briefly. The problems started after I installed an AP on my house expressively for the new PDA. The node is fully open and set to B/G/N protocols.
After a couple days of medium (couple hours per day) use the WiFi connection suddenly quit, the device would try to connect (the top bar showing the WiFi connection animation continuously) and after a few moments gave up with a dialog box stating the current network settings were wrong (even thou they worked fine a few hours earlier).
I tried several hot and cold resets, but only solved the problem after flashing a new ROM; even then the same symptoms reappeared after a couple of days of regular use. Again no re-setting would cure the problem, and now not even flashing the ROM again would work. Nonetheless, some hours latter the WiFi would connect perfectly with the same nodes it refused to before, and in very short time.
I have witnessed this cycle twice and have yet not been able to find a trigger for it, but will keep my eyes open for any tell tale signs, and post any findings here.
What I found out is that If you are using CommManager in TF3D together with other wifi mgr it screws up the wifi. Either you use CommManager or you use 3rd party one but not both at the same time.
Agreed!
Yes I agree completely; something on the permanent storage area got corrupted last week after I installed WiFi Monster (which I like, and recommend, only not at the same time as the standard connection manager).
I managed to get the WiFi conection working again (if only for a couple of days...) by doing the Start>Settings>Clear Storage thing and following the re-install.
Ok, so at least now I know of one more thing that can screw up th HD's WiFi besides itself!
i cant connect to my wifi in my same bedroom !!!
Enhancing WiFi performance
If you get very low range, or frequent connection interruptions, it might help to go to: Settings>Connections>Wi-Fi>Advanced>Power Mode and set it to "Best Performance"
PS. I wonder if anybody gets intermittent WiFi problems like myself. One day it works perfectly, the next it will not connect showing a dialog box: "Warning Cannot connect to the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again"

Annoyances and bugs in Xperia X2 MR2-Release [Updated 3 July 2010]

Hi all!
I started again a new thread where i write down my findings in the MR2 release of the X2. It's originally on the Esato-forums, so i just put the link over here:

Nice THKS.
7. When hanging up a phonecall, the phone makes three loud beeps via the rear speaker. WHY???
same here... but only if the person u talk to hangs up first. its so annoying.

YEp, and having the phone on silent does not make things better either...
Fix
i used registry editor and changed the value of calldrop from p(play) to none.
Rene,
when you hear 3 tones after call finish - is bluetooth activated in this moment for your x2? For example, do you use BT connection to your X2 in your car (handsfree)? Do you think that there is some special requirements for BT headset using to generate this sound on main unit if call was finished?
when you see bad power consumption results - is wifi activated in communication manager in your X2? I think that if you activate wifi - it can be reason for huge additional current if unit can't find appropriate wifi network for some reason.
For example, I found that if I activate wifi - I always should connect unit to charger every day. Then I found that this is specific issue only for me. The specific way of my wifi using is followed - I use 2 different wifi connections to my X2 (on home - secured network through router and in office - open wifi network). I do have connection issues every morning in office and every evening in home. Even if my X2 reports that it's connected to office network - I can see in status bar in Today screen that it's trying to conect again and again - and also I can't use browser or Goggle maps because no data connection is available through wifi. After I power off/on my unit - it can really connect to office wifi network and I can use browser and receive mails e t.c. When I return to home, I see that unit still be connected to office network - but it's impossile. And again - I can't use browser or receive mails by using my X2. After I power off/on unit - it can connect to home network. I can't fix issues in office and in home just turn off/on wifi in communication manager - issue still be actual after this. So, what I do every day - I turn off/turn on my unit every morning after arrive to office and again power on/ power off unit every evening when arrive home So I should spent 2 minutes every morning and 2 minutes every evening to reboot unit. On other hands I think that this is step to avoid more serious issues after couple of days of Windows using - you know usially you can see performance degradation after 1 week of using of any WinMob device - looks like this is result of lot of memory leaks, memory corruptions inside MSFT SW.
if we are talking about unexpected password issue or issue when you can't unlock unit by LOCK icon sliding left or right after press on power on button - for me it looks like memory is corrupted in MSFT lock app. As result some password is requested even if user never activates this password for lock screen. But it's clear that in reality, unit doesn't story in memory any password to compare with entered one - otherwise after power off/on sequency unit still ask password from you. But as I see in the same situation with my X2 - after I remove/insert battery and power on unit - I never see again this issue just after unit goes to Idle.
I think that memory, which is used by MSFT Lock code, can be corrupted only in scope of the same Windows process (of cause if memory is isolated for all processes in WinMob - I hope it's true) - so only other MSFT code can corrupt this memory. Do you know about any public forum where we can ask help from MSFT to see in this issue? I never see that Aaron wrote anything about any contacts in MSFT - but I think that MSFT should be also responsible for any product if Windows logo is applyed to device with WinMob?
To reduce the probability of this issue I never use AutoLock and always lock unit by click on Lock icon in Today panel or by long press on right HW kwy (with key sign).

wifi
Hi! I have a similar issue with the wifi that PanichUS described.
The phone sees the network, tells that it's available, but I am not able to connect to it (so I can not do internet browsing, read the emails, etc.)
This happened to me while switching from one network to another, which were in two different places (and the phone was showing the network still available of the place I have already left). But in my case rebooting the phone did not help.
This is not the only case. The same thing also happens to me after I use bluetooth. The phone is connected to the wifi network (I could do internet browsing, etc.), I use bluetooth, and after that I can no more recover the connection. Again it shows that the network is available, but I can not connect to it.
The only thing which helped by now was restarting my house router.
Is the MR2 the last release of the firmware by date? I have bought my phone recently, and for me it seems that it was updated: I have radio, and the theme with grey background (X2 Titan) was activated in the very beginning.
MR2 is last update for X2. Don't wait another update.
Try turn off Wifi in Communication manager before power off and turn on Wifi back in Communication manager after power on.
Wifi
I have discovered that in fact I don't have problem to connect when using an open network, while with the protected one is always an issue.
Reboot of the phone doesn't change anything even if before doing it I switch off wifi in the connections manager and delete all the settings. Nothing - only reset of the router what helps.
I also tried to use other software (Wifi Monster) - the same thing.
The phone is really wonderful, it really has it's spirit with all these panels and generally the interface, but the wifi issue is really annoying!
My advice - don't install Resco Photo manager on X2.
Great app but works very bad on X2.
I instaled older version Resco.Photo.Manager 7.03. This work good.
Wisbaradvance 4.05 is verry unstable, problems and problems.

[Q] GPS hot fix technology exist on android??

Hi guys,
I have some trouble with GPS, it's take very very very long time to establish appropriate connection to some satellites. On Windows mobile there was app which download data about positions satellites from INTERNET and speed up the connection process. Then have exist some this solution for android platform? and one more thing, have some soft which can show satellites connected etc (not need any navigation or compass just some thing for verify)..
Any ideas?

Search for "gps.config"!
Download tis app called gps status...you can download satellites thru its settings or you can reset ur gps data in it...downloading agps data dramatically improves locking speed..check it out...hope it helps
Setings> GPS&Sensors > Auto-download agps data
I am having issues with some builds sometimes to get a fix.
Some android builds make WM GPS not to fix anymore even. The only way to make it work on WM again is to re-flash your radio and not run android again (Android seems to do something to the GPS that makes it stop working on WM).
Perhaps I am wrong but this is my observation.

Yep looks that..
Thanks, it worked very well for me.
I have also raised this question previously.
With GPS's there are two additional technologies that help with speeding up a lock.
The first often known as QuickGPS. Normally when you GPS finally find its first satellite it needs to download a lot of satellite information including where all the other satellites are in relationship. This can take a minute or so and if it is interrupted will need to restart. Thats why you get a quicker lock when stationary versus moving. What QuickGPS does is download this information via the internet and store it locally.
The second is A-GPS. When your GPS starts it is listening trying to find anyone of over 30 satellites. This can take time. Once it find one satellite it then needs to repeat for another 2 before being able to identify where it is and what other satellites are in the area (From Step 1). What A-GPS does is find out where you are via cell sites etc. Once it has an approx location it then refers to the QuickGPS data to then workout what satellites are in the area. In then proceeds to only try to lock on local ones which is a lot quicker.
All the fixes for the HD2 gps relate to updating the NTP server setting in the GPS conf file. The current setting is fine however refers to an american time server. End of the day it is still going to give you a time sync to within a few milliseconds. Refering to a local NTP (Time Server) will give the exact same data.
Waste of time.
I believe the slow GPS lock is due to one of these technogies not working. I suspect it is a-GPS however have yet to confirm either way that the GPD data is being downloaded and saved in the right place.
Hope this helps.
Yes, I thinking primary about the fist option QuickGPS.. I was able on my HD2 wit win get the GPS lock for 7-10 satelelites in let then 30 second.. without that 5-10 minutes, then I thing is very userfull to have it somehow working on android too..

2 issues in 4.3

I'm running the official BTU 4.3 release on my I9505
I've noticed two issues with 4.3
a) Wifi
From time to time, perhaps daily, my phone loses connection to my home wifi. I get a notification which says something about being disconnected -- don't remember the full text. When I click on it I get taken to the list of wifi networks and underneath my local wifi network it will say "Sign-in is required".
It may be working as designed - checking my newish BT HomeHub 5 I can see the PPP session recycled twice overnight. Oddly this was initiated by upstream admin according to the logs, not a vdsl failure.... since the hub will intercept pages when ppp is down it's possible this caused the confusion
b) Security policy
I sometimes see a notification that an app required access to system, but didn't have permission - yet when I click on the notification I get taken to a full list of apps -- how do I find out which one was trying to be naughty?
The WiFi problem can be quite annoying.
I think this is not an improvement over the previous functionality.
The idea seems to be that as soon you have to manually log in to a WiFi network Android switches to the cellular connection to make sure you are always connected.
The thing is that at my work place this means every time I get somewhat out of range of WiFi (elevator, toilet, staircase) and walk into range my WiFi stays disconnected until I remember to reconnect it.
I only have to actually sign in once a day, but as Android thinks it is a network you have to sign in to it will not automatically reconnect to that network.
Meanwhile the phone is using up my data allowance....

Connected to Wi-Fi, but no internet

So today I came home, connected my S7E to home Wi-Fi, and after some time, the internet was not available. The wifi icon is shown with exclamation mark and none of the apps, neither the browser, has connection (chrome says DNS probe finished, no internet). But it was working for about an hour, then it suddenly stopped.
I used another device to make sure the internet is working. Then I rebooted my router and phone, but no change. I made Android forget my Wi-Fi and connected again, also tried again with specifying the IP, mask, gateway and DNS. Still no success. (When I connect to the Wi-Fi without specifying IP and other stuff, the mobile obtains it automatically) Tried on 5 different routers (TP-LINK, Zyxel, Compex), the same results. All of them are 2.4Ghz, will test at some Ubiquiti's 5GHz APs tomorrow.
The ping in IP Tools app timeouts on every IP (router, gateway, DNS servers), only mobile's IP can be pinged. When I try to ping from another device to my phone, it works. Just the reply time varies from 4ms to 1000ms.
Tried hard reseting my phone (holding power + volume down, not doing factory reset) and hard reseting (cut the power) all my network devices (routers, gateway, switches). All of them have the latest firmware.
When using mobile data, internet is fine.
Also, the internet is propably sometimes available for some apps. I let the phone for few hours to see if it will fix itself, and there were new notifications from Instagram app (I'm 100% sure that my post was liked after the phone lost internet, so the notification must have been pushed to the phone through the "broken" Wi-Fi. But when I open instagram, it says it's offline. Other apps (Messenger, Gmail, Facebook, etc.) didn't received any notifications.
I have Galaxy S7 EDGE, Android 7.0. I used mobile data to check for software updates, phone is up to date.
So the issue stil persist, and I noticed some more things:
I also tried booting into recovery mode and wiping cache partition but it made no change.
If I disable encryption on my WiFi, the connection starts working, but only for few hours. Then It's not working again. Also, this helps only sometimes.
I used IP Tools app to perform a ping requests, set it to 10sec timeout and let it for a while to do ping requests to my gateway. Most of the requests just timeouts, then for a few seconds there are some successfull ones with time of about 5ms, and then it goes back to timeout.
Pinging from my computer to phone is always successfull, reply time varies from 5ms to 70ms.
So the randomly goes on and off on many routers, and none of my actions made change, so it's definitelly a software glitch, maybe the latest update caused this.
Me to...
Did you ever fix this? My phone has started to do this in the last week or two.
Have you installed a local VPN-based adblocker like AdGuard? I have. And lately I've seen the same symptom on WiFi -- connected, but can't communicate. Stopping and restarting AdGuard fixes the problem.
No, no new apps or anything vpn related.
Seem to have solved it now after a hard reset (hold volume down + power button) suggested elsewhere. A day and a half without problems, fingers crossed.
