Is there a working 2.1 ROM for the G1 which has Live Wallpapers with minimal battery drain and also something close to running at a fast speed with GPS/camera/maps/streetview etc all working?
At the moment I'm using SuperEclair V8.2 by XxKOLOHExX and it's fine and all, but the system slows down to the point of becoming near unusable when Live Wallpapers are on - not to mention the huge battery drain. Are there any ROMs which have such issues corrected?
Thanks in advance~
I'm using superD 1.6. I would change to 2.1 if there was something as fast as 1.6. I have yet to see an eclair rom to match the speed of donut.
It's been a while since I've used a 2.1 rom, but when I did, I didnt notice any battery loss from the live wallpapers. From what I know, live wallpapers doesn't even run when your phone is off/sleeping. LWP's turn back on when your phone comes back on, so it's not constantly running.
edit: That didnt really answer your question =)

Hmm yeah that's true - I don't mind if it's not as fast as donut, just as long as it's not really really slow. The 2.1 ROM I was using had great features but it was just too laggy for me.

+1 for Open Eclair. I used it for my everyday rom for months with no problems. Recently switched back to SuperD out of boredom though.
Ohhh, cool. Looks like Open Eclair is the best way to go. Thanks!
latest open eclair or kingklick's ASOP 2.1 v1.9
Cannon 1.2 with 3d patch 2.0 is fully of fc.
SuperEclair v2.4 or v3.0 I suggest v2.4 with Extended Pack.
Kolehe beta 3.0 Rom. I bet theres no Eclair rom faster. flash and see for yourself. But no LWP's though. And you shouldnt be asking for a fast eclair that has minimal battery drain and complain about something slowing down and your using LWP's.
OpenEclair 1.3.0.1 is very feature-complete, stable and the "no 3D" version is fast enough for daily use. The 3D version though is slow. I've missed several phone calls because it takes that long for the phone to wake up and show caller ID.
The OpenEclair devs are promising improvements on that front in the upcoming 2.0 version, so I'd try that out when it becomes available.

is there anything that does not work yet in OpenEclair, such as video capture, camera, SMS, etc?
I have an original MT3G (using Cyanogen right now) if that makes any difference.
Sorry because of the extremely late reply man :S but...
I think you DEFINITELY have to try this ROM if you wanna know what's speed and reliability. It's based off the official aosp ota for the mt3g (my touch 3g) and tweaked out to run flawlessly on the G1

HI!
Awesome!!! I'm thinking about change phone because it's too laggy but this ROM makes all the diference! Thanks for the suggestion.
Now i only have two questions because i had Cyanogenmod and it has Power Control in the status bar like the samsung galaxy i think and i can also change the number of lines and collumns my desktop has, and chage the weight of the widgets.
Anyone knows what can i do to make that things work in this version?
THANKS!!!

I can't wait for someone to reply to this thread in six months time and be all 'Dude, you gotta check out this honeycomb ROM, it runs amazing on the G1!!' and everyone else will be all 'lulwut?'.
Have had Super-E, but changed to BiffMod.
BiffMod is faster on my G1.
Greetings
Braaaaiiiiiings.... mmmmm... BRAIIIINS!!!
The one I have now is blazing fast, I use from cm4 to cm6 and this thing maybe best so far I have use, no fc and bs since I got it, fancy looks but still maintain good speed. But not sure about juice, my battery is extended one like 3.7 VDC 3000m monster battery so it still last me good 10hr+ even everything is on......
Waiting for good sense mod. ;-)

My phone has not been running as smmothly as I would have liked. While there is not as much support as I would like for CM7 and the new spl and radio I am sick and tired of changing the radio and spl via fastboot so I am staying but I would like the user experience to be more pleasant. What performance settings work best for you? What CPU settings do you use? What are the best patches? What is so great about Yoshi? I hear you have only half phone functionality with his ROM aka I'll pass. Is there a stable version of Honeycomb available?
WOW... I have to say I am shocked... YOOOSHI is faster than Cyanogen by far... running 124 apps very SMOOOTHLY. No lag @ Compache Hack 32mb swap, JIT on, vm heap 32, home and messaging in memory, dithering disabled, in mem CPU low 160, high 576... no swapiness. Default Yoshi launcher. Thanks Yoshi, can't wait for honeycomb.

Hi,
I tried CM6 on my G1/Dream and the phone was very slow and lagged everytime. I think that CM is for phone with more memory and CPU. But you could try the ROM Froyo for Trout, I did it and it is fast.

Ok will try thanks, any idea when honeycomb will be available? Do you think G1 will be able to handle the new ROM?
Honeycomb is not coming out for phones. Honeycomb/Android 3.0+ is for tablets. And if your G1 is having issues running CM6/7 you are more than likely not going to be able to run Honeycomb as it is optimized for dual-core processors.
Try laszlos froyo best rom I've used on g1 froyo 4 trout is also good but you have to manually congif some stuff laszlos is good right out of the box

In terms of Gingerbread ROMs, the latest COS-DS by roalex has been running exceptionally well on my Magic.
CM7 has been pretty disappointing thus far.
Is it CM7 are official release ? i think is much better to try with Yoshi or Laszlo ROM

Checked/run both CM7Unofficial and Ginger Yoshi RC5.2. I wanna just say that Yoshi's ROM works twice as fast and fully stable than CM7. System settings were the same for both ROMs.
I will try Froyo for trout. Unfortunatly Yoshi has started locking up. Honeycomb doesn't sound so promising anymore. Yes the G1 is a freak but at this point its like trying to modify windows 7 on a machine built for windows 95. What is the point? I'm not thrilled with CM7, and I HATE CLockwork recovery and if its the only way for me to get updates from the phone forget it...

Super D is Super outDated, fast but a blast from the past, on the other hand Super F. Super Fu*k is a monster... and I have to say Froyo is by far the fastest, eats Gingerbread man, brings the bees to it's knees and Cyanogen is striaght up unstable, willing, but unable.
Cyanogen gingerbread or MIUI gingerbread what is better
Both are just ports on the X10. Try it out to see which one you like.
These threads are dumb it's completely subjective
try it out, they are both good!
but if you want a stable and very good rom, so try also BlueSpark
I use this rome since two or 3 months and i had never problems with that rom.
sadly, it is 2.1 and not 2.2 or 2.3
That's like asking what's better - strawberries or apples. It's what you prefer.
Personally I like Cyanogen the best. Mainly because I can't stand iPhone so I don't like the iPhone look and feeling of MIUI - as I have experienced it.
At the moment I am running Wolfbreak's Cyanogen 2.2 ROM and my phone have never been better - both performance and battery wise.
So try them out!

you can tweak miui so it looks nothing like iphone.
The way I have mine set up it looks nothing like ios. For example. try the hive theme and set the menus to grid instead of list.
I wasn't aware of that. So thank you for that advice

Yes, I use MiUi, but it doesn't even look remotely like an iPhone. You can download the icons "Android 2.3", download your launcher of choice, and there you go! Sure th Menus are MiUi, but I like it. To each is his own.

I do prefer MIUI but CM is also so great.
I think they are the best roms for our X10.
:/ just go with cyanogenMod 2.2 stable and all working.. all the gingerbread roms has no camera yet... some even lags and reboot all the time...

Cm6.1.2. Xtremes is my fav.
2.2 froyo.
I have got every thing ruining smooth.
No fc's ever.
Camera works great.
Love the music player.
Wicked dialer and in call.
Skinned to the nines.
I don't see a need for gingerbread.
(the tv turning off close is cool)
Not until the upgrade.
I agree that miui looks a little to iphone.
There are lots of themes for miui.
But I don't know how well they work.

I Prefer MIUI. Give both a try! can't go wrong with that.
currently i'm using MIUI, i was using CM before but i wanted a change from the Android layout, plus, imo, stock rom looks better than CM} but it's not all about looks and after trying CM, i switched to MIUI
EDIT: got it working finally, had to kill the process and reboot the phone
cyanogenmod doesnot support xperia x10 anymore ?
I cant see the phone in the list..
what to do ?
thanks in advance

Sure, I have tried some 2.3.3, 2.3.4 (I don't want to name them...) but only 2.2.1 can work perfectly.
I use a CM6 based rom with a personnal look.
I prefer LancherPro, all others (ADW, Zeam, MiUI,...) have not a circular dock where you can put a lot of shortcuts.
As in...is there one?
I want to go back to a 2.2 ROM I particularly like, but I don't want to lose performance coming from the 2.2.1 ROM I'm currently on ...
Anyone have experience with both and want to weigh in?

I personally have never reallt noticed a performance difference between 2.2 and 2.2.1, I think they are too close to really notice. However the Vibrant had an official 2.2 drop so it would probably be closer to stock...
I will say I have been using Simpy Honey and CM7 alot and decided to give a few Froyo roms a go and the performance lose is very noticeable when leaving 2.3 for 2.2..

Performance loss coming from 2.3? I've read that Gingerbread is more demanding on system memory and actually runs slower--at least in terms of gaming--than Froyo ...

Massive difference.. CM7 is very smooth and now that everything works it is a great choice. When I went back to a 2.2 rom I noticed the occasional screen scrolling lag and little things like that that you do not see on 2.3..
Note that every ones experience is different..

i have only flashed 2.2 and 2.2.1 roms as I always thought the process of flashing a 2.3 or downgrading from 2.3 seemed confusing... messing with bootloaders and stuff??
is it not hard to flash from 2.2 to 2.3 or CM, or downgrading from 2.3/CM back to 2.2?
not trying to hijack thread, just figured this seemed like a good place to ask rather then posting a separate thread

Looking at the quality of this release i would prefer a stock jb i still don't know wich one i will prefer i will have to try once there's a stable release before i can tell.
But matter of factly (for me at least) i can tell you this is the better rom there's out there at the moment.
And i am in México. you can check this info on if you click on more info.

I have not tested the ICS ROM, but with the CM10 JB you can do nothing wrong I read tests from Nexus handy and the conclusion is the same, JB runs much smoother than ICS...

I just flashed aosp jb last night and I love it. Ffffuuuuu to the camera, I don't care about it. Its pretty crappy quality anyhow. But I would say that going back to stock to get the update would b worth it. Before u flash the update, make a copy of it on your comp. Or make a backup of it AFTER uve flashed it, so ull have the update at your fingertips if u ever need it, or if u wanna use that as a base to make your own custom ics rom.
