Im lookin to buy a hero for my son to watch netflix. Hes to young for a tablet and i can get a good deal on a hero. I need to know if netflix works on a stock hero?

In play it says this will work for android 2.2 and above. Just tried it on my current 2.2 ROM and it doesn't seem to work. Just a black screen.
If I install a 2.3 ROM soon I'll update my post.
Edit: just saw you said stock hero. Stock is 2.1 so no, it won't work.

What do you mean too young for a tablet. They have childpad out now. Also, I have my 5 yo an Archie 80g9 tablet and it works great.

The Hero can't even play Youtube video's in 360p, so I think Netflix is a no go.

Im on CM7 and it installed fine for me through the market on my Mac. I just selected my Evo in the dropdown and picked PC36100.
Working flawlessly on CM7.
Either go to https://market.android.com/details?id=com.netflix.mediaclient and install from there
Or...search for "com.netflix.mediaclient" in the Market.
someone mind pulling and posting their APK? Long shot, but if it works on the Galaxy S it may work on the Epic.
I am using it in cm7. Works great. Happiest day ever. Lol

Way to actually help.
Netflix is currently working on a fix. Stay tuned.
Netflix currently doesn't have any SUPPORT on ANY Gingerbread ROM.
There are a few Custom GingerSense Roms that can use the Modded Netflix

I may be completely wrong about this, but I seem to remember using Netflix alright with CM7. My memory is pretty much shot though, so I wouldn't rely on anything I have to say about anything.
Thank you much

CM7 isn't using the Gingerbread Framework, it's using the FROYO framework
Yep uninstalled then installed backup now working

EVO on CM7 is running Gingerbread as well and it works. No Netflix in the Market on SavagedZen 2.3.4 though.
Netflix does not work on the EVO 4G running the new 2.3 gingerbread software
Netflix has currently dropped support for all Android Devices except the HTC Incredible. It looks like every other device that was ok'd was running 2.2 and was updated and dropped. For those thinking that it's a 2.2 to 2.3 issue, that possible, but the app does work with 2.3 as we can see from the LG Revolution...
They are expecting an update within 2 weeks to reestablish the DRM and security settings. For now, the App has been pulled from the market and will reappear when the fixes are complete.
I know this isn't directly related to the epic but thought I would share it. My friend at school has Motorola Droid, the original one, with Netflix and streaming works. I asked him how he got it cause he's not rooted and he said its on the market. Its not on mine though :-( what up with that?

I think I remember reading it has something to do with the optimization of the hummingbird processors. Something is fixed in Gingerbread which is why it can stream on EF02 but not on EC05. Simple solution if you want netflix is to flash one of the EF02 roms like i3. I prefer the speed and battery of Frozen 1.2 though. Can't wait till we get our official GB update. I am excited to see what ACS can do with that source code.
+1 to Imann. It has to do with our processors and 2.2. It works perfectly on 2.3 for our Epics though.
I'm on the ef02 leak anyway so it doesn't really matter to me, I just thought that it wouldn't work on froyo period. Thanks for the info guys.

Got my false hopes up. :-( This is the #1 thing I want official GB for.
Should us in the UK have a Movies tab in the Market app? I know we can get movies from the browser based market but I don't have a tab in the Market on my DHD. I'm rooted with the latest market 3.3.12
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
Sorry apparently its a film tab. So yeah have people got this in their market app? I wondered if it had something to do with me being rooted? Someone from the UK please confirm
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
My Desire HD also doesn't show the Movies. However my wife's ZTE Blade does. We're both rooted and both on Orange contract and both running the latest Market apk.
It's weird she gets the movies and I don't. But I've put it down to the rom's we use. I use RCMix3d v4 and she's got swedish spring on hers.
I read rooted phones were blocked because of potential copyright or DRM issues
Ah ok. The only other thing I could think was that because HTC have Watch and maybe they're stopping films to favor their service. I'm using Android Revolution, so we both have Sense Roms. I might try Cyanogen tomorrow and see if it appears
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
Yeah, it's weird. The Desire HD I have does not get this, yet the Desire Z does. Both rooted and running custom Sense 3.5 ROMs.

Yea don't waste your time. Its not on the DHD or the inspire either. My madre's MT4G and padre's SGS2 has the movie tab in the market.

Sent from my D255 using XDA App
Someone over at the Phandroid forum has said they've contacted both Google and HTC and been told it probably won't come to the DHD. It's so weird when the Desire Z had it
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
same with me spent a while last night trying to sort it but still no movies tab or the supposed music tab on my rooted dhd but my rooted zte blade has the movies tab.....not fair
I think some pestering needs to be done, we need as many people as possible to get on their backs and make sure they give us movies
I have an old OG EVO 4G and now that my daughter is old enough she keeps wanting to watch videos and play games on my new phone so I thought I could bust out my old EVO 4G and turn it into a mini wifi tablet for her to watch youtube, play kids games, and I could also use it as a wifi remote for my HTPC.
Is there a rom out that will disable all phone, voicemail, and 3G/4G radio access.
Is the EVO hardware capable of the newer Android OS's like ICS and JB if the 3G, 4G, and cell radios are disabled?
The cleaner the build the better and battery life is also a plus.
The device is rooted, I used the old school Unrevoked way back in the day. I haven't used this phone in over a year so I haven't kept up with any of the new offerings for it.
What do you guys recommend?
I ended up finding one at least here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850220
I'm playing with it a bit, it seems pretty good.
Any others made for inactive phones?

Heres a rom that is both tablet and phone.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714415
I am working on one called cyanmobile. As of now it is just a normal Rom but plans are to have an edition built as tablet also. During the build all radio (cell service will be excluded). It will no be one of those that is modded by removing the cell apps but built without them. Also being gingerbread based all our cool features suck as hdmi out and ffc will work.

I will be very interested to instal a new custom rom on my old supersonic device, not sure what is the best rom out there to replace my nighty version of cm. I am planning to use it like an ipod device.
