Can you send me the exact content of your /sdcard/media_list ?
Note that it MUST be exactly that filename and path, not external SD!
Is busybox installed on your ROM ?
Ive attached a version which verboses all Output to
/mnt/sdcard/media-cleaner_upper-output.txt
/mnt/sdcard/media-cleaner_lower-output.txt
Please run that script and send me both of the textfiles

The script you are running is running through your whole root Filesystem.. this is why it takes 40 mins ..Normally its done within 30-40 seconds!
What did you write into your media_list ?
Did you change any other things such as the Folder Variable inside the script ?

ok your media_list contains the follwing entry
Code:
/sdcard
That means you want to collect the whole /sdcard to your media-repository ?
Sry that makes no sence to me!?
Step by step how to again:
1. Download the zip
2. extract both files (media_list + S11media-cleaner.sh) to your SD-Card /mnt/sdcard
3. busybox chmod 755 or 777 S11media-cleaner.sh (make it executable)
4. add the folders you want to be displayed in gallery to your media_list
/sdcard/myPictures
/sdcard/DCIM
/sdcard/private/xxx_movies
5. run the script from terminal or whatever "sh /mnt/sdcard/S11media-cleaner.sh"
6. if you like you can copy the script to /etc/init.d for running on startup

Oh wow, thanks!
I was doing this manually and was annoying.
Added it to /system/etc/init.d/ but that didn't work, it didn't add the files.

Does it work for you running the script manually ?
Unfortunatley i currently cant test the init.d thing ...
There may be a problem with the sequence of inits. I named the script S11 to start at an earlier point (does android care about the values??)
Maybe at that point of time the /sdcard is not mounted yet ..
So you could try renaming the script to maybe S99..?!
Please report back and I will change that

I have noticed that I am getting a lot of DiskCacheIndex.Tmp files on my SD Card when I use Android which is almost all the time instead of WM. I delete these files manually. I did a search on this and really found no answers other than they are temp files. So looking for something definitive.
1. What are these files?
2. Any apk to delete them automatically?
Thanks!
I would like to know as well
GScript Light
Try to write a Gscript. Download this app in the market. Save the script. Now you can run it every time without deleting those files manually.
There should be enough examples for doin that on google
Cheers
In Gscript write a scrip named "Delete DiskCacheIndex" (or whatever)
cd /mnt/sdcard
rm DiskCacheIndex*
ls

Change your Android folder to what ever you want and edit the startup.txt accordingly. You can have as many build as your heart desire.
Yeah I know. What I'm saying is....I used androzip to unzip to sdcard, which when writing to specified location OVERWRITES any existing folder named android with the one it is unzipping. I'm retarted for short

Use pocketrar and you can set the location it extracts to, chose something like Android2, Android3 etc then in startup.txt edit this line:
Code:
set cmdline "rel_path=Android2"
Set the rel_path to whatever folder its in, and there you go.
Hi,
For some reason, my gallery app was causing my xoom to stay awake 100% of the time and I had no idea why...
So I just deleted it...
But now I need to use the gallery! I have tried a few links but none seem to work! If someone could attach it or a link or tell me how to get it back it would be of grat help.
Thanks!

This is why you never want to actually delete the file but instead rename. If you are using a ROM you can just reflash the ROM over it, otherwise, here's the gallery files I pulled, push these files to /system/app/
thanks a lot

So close, but not quite chmod 644 /system/app/*.apk
The apk's themselves don't execute. The dalvik cache executes But as far as Gallery not sleeping, maybe it is trying to sync Picassa or something.
yeah, you're right, it's 644, still not fully used to the permissions in linux -_-
ICS Framework-res.apk does not like to be decompiled and recompiled by APK tool.
The work around is to use 2 different versions of APK tool and keep swapping files for decompile and recompile.
I have put this in a handy little batch file package to manage all this. It really is basic stuff, but hopefully for those who are not quite sure, it will ease the pain a little.
Please feel free to test it. Enjoy:
This is an updated script to modify ICS *.apk using APK tool.
I take no credit for Apk tool or the process.
I have simply automated it for Windows as there are issues with ICS framework-res modification
Pre -requisites
1. WinRar
2. Java

Initial setup
1. Extract the apk folder from the .zip to the root of C:\
The structure should then look like c:\apk\ACTIONS
2. Go into c:\apk\ACTIONS\Install_files
3. Double click "Setup_Install.bat"

Usage
Simply double click START.bat and follow the instructions

What command did you run when you did that?
Did you run the setup file first?
You will need to be an administrator. Are you? If so try right click on the start script > Run as administrator
Just realised I somehow had left part of the usage instructions for the old version in the post by mistake. That maybe why some of you have issues.

I was able to get the CM 10 Framework-res to decompile and recompile using this version:

The beauty of apks is that if you're swapping oranges for oranges, you don't need to decompile. You only really need to decompile if you're changing XML files.
To swap one image for another image with the same name is easy.
1)Download winrar (or 7zip - but I use winrar).
2)Open the apk with winrar (do NOT extract)
3)Delete the images you want to change
4)Drag the replacement images back in. When the window pops up with options, change "compression" to "store"
5)Close winrar

I did exactly what the OP says, extracted the files into the root of the C drive, ran the setup and clicked on the start.bat and followed instructions. I now ran the setup again and took a screenshot of what appeared because it was so fast I couldn't see it. It said access denied and 0 files copied. I then took ownership of the System32 folder and ran setup again and it said 1 file copied. I now ran the start.bat again and got the attached error.
So am I right in thinking that you can't simply merge folders/files and zip like you can with root explorer because windows is not a Linux system?

You can swap anything like-for-like. You can put in a replacement folder, xml file or png as long as everything has the same name.
If you want to edit an existing XML, you cannot do this without decompiling as when an xml is compiled, it does not appear as plain text. Similarly if you want to add more pngs or xml files, resources changed so it has to be decompiled too.
But if its simply swapping like-for-like, you can just use winrar or 7zip as mentioned earlier.

hi,
saw a cool boot animation in reddit.. http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1pb6dv/jarvis_boot_animation_480x800/
i downloaded this file, extracted the archive, changed the desc.txt file to suit nexus 4's resolution put it in a archive named 'bootanimation.zip' and placed it in /system/media/. but when i rebooted the phone only the black screen was there to greet me
i even tried the default resolution in desc.txt but still the boot screen is completely black..
i'm on stock rom, rooted with franco kernel.. what am i missing here.. help me to set up the boot animation please..
When you zip it back up, you need to use the "store" compression method.

yep.. just checked the file and it has the empty line in the end..
i'm sorry i couldn't attach the zip file since it is over 12mb.. i have attached the desc.txt file and will give the link for boot animation..

thanks for your help..
FWIW i tried previewing this animation in the Boot Animation app.. it threw an error.. so there might be a possibility that this zip has some issue..
I just checked out the zip and everything seems to be fine. I also tried it out (put it in system/media) and it worked perfectly.
Are you sure the one that you linked above isn't working for you? Try using it without any modifications just to be sure.

now i feel stupid.. reddit op had given a mediafire link too.. i downloaded from that link.. the issue with that link was that all the part folders and desc.txt were present under a folder and that folder was zipped as bootanimation.zip.. in the new link which i gave in my previous post the part folders and desc.txt were directly zipped...
now the animation works perfect and i have even modded the desc to suit nexus 4's resolution..
thanks a lot Chromium_
